Firmware update for Superdrive G4 Mini

The latest firmware update for "some" superdrives had me hoping that the nagging problem would be fixed, alas, no luck.
MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-845C:
Firmware Revision: DPP9
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
Cache: 2048 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW
Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
Now I know for a fact that this drive does support burning -DL DVDs, except it has been crippled by Apple. Thank you.
What are the odds this would ever be rectified?

Hello,
What are the odds this would ever be rectified?
Not likely.
The Mac Mini G4 is now a discontinued product.
Apple will generally only go backwards to fix problems. They don't usually go back to add features to machines that have been discontinued and replaced with a new model.
So, if there was an update necessary to restore operation of the drive, then they would probably release one.
But, if there was a way to enable the drive to burn media it doesn't currently burn, then they are not going to do it now.
They are more interested in selling you a new system with the features you want, than enabling the features you want on a product you already own.
But, that's just the way things are done.
I hope this helps.

  • WHY DOESNT NOKIE POST MORE FIRMWARE UPDATES FOR OT...

I AM NEW TO THIS BOARD AND HAVE FOUND THAT NO MATTER WHAT I DO TO UPDATE MY NOKIA 6230i (FIRMWARE AND RADIO SOFTWARE)I MEET A BRICK WALL.
IT SEEMS NOKIA ARENT INTERESTED IN GIVING YOU SUPPORT ONCE YOURE PHONE IS ANY MORE THAN A YEAR OLD.
THIS TO ME IS VERY UNFAIR AS I HAVE SPENT A LOT OF CASH ON THIS PHONE TRYING TO UPDATE VISUAL RADIO USING THE DIRECTIONS PROVIDED WITH NO SUCCESS AS THESE DIRECTIONS DO NOT WORK AS I CANT FIND ANYWHERE TO DOWNLOAD THE THE NEW VISUAL RADIO WHILEST ON WAP.
THIS TO DATE HAS COST ME £75 TRYING TO FIND THE LINK.
ALSO I HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR THE FIRMWARE UPDATE FOR THE 6230i AS I SEE THIS AS BEING FAIR AS EVERY OTHER MOBILE THAT IS BEING POSTED CAN BE UPDATED OVER THE AIR AND THROUGH SOFTWARE UPDATE.
WHY CANT MINE AND MANY OTHERS.
EVEN IF NOKIA POSTED THE LAST RELEASED FOR EVERY MOBILE EVEN FOR THE OLD ONES I WOULD BE VERY GREATFUL .
MY NOKIA HAS A VERY OLD FIRMWARE V3.40 THIS NOKIA KNOWS IS FULL OF BUGS AND SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR POSTING THE FIXES UNTILL THERE ARE NO BUGS TO SORT WITHOUT EXCESS COST OR HAVING TO VISIT A RECOMMENDED REPAIR DEALER.
I WANT IT FREE JUST LIKE THE NEXT GUY SO NOKIA POST THE FIRMWARES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AS I AM COMPLETELY FED UP WITH THIS FONE AND ITS BUGS.
    YOURS SINCERELY
    AN UNHAPPY CUSTOMER

First of all, please locate the Caps Lock key of your keyboard; all upper case text is hard to read, and traditionally considered as shouting. Of course, you may already know that, and intended to shout.
Anyway, most phones do not have the built-in support for do-it-yourself firmware updates.
For such phones your options are (if you think you need a firmware update):
    - Take/send the phone to an authorized Nokia service/repair center, where the update can be done.
    - Buy relativelt expensive flashing equipment and locate illegally distributed firmware files and try it on your own with that.
My advise is to go for the former rather than the latter option. The former should cost you anything (at least not for as long as the phone is under warranty & excluding what it takes for you to go there).
As to downloading "THE NEW VISUAL RADIO WHILEST ON WAP", I don't know what you mean by that. I don't know a 6230i, but either it comes with Visual Radio built-in or not. Any updates/fixes to it would come with a firmware update, but not over WAP.
Note also that you don't need the Visual Radio service to listen to FM radio channels, and most radion stations do not support the "Visual" bit at all (if they do, the support is indicated in the station directory in the radio app on the phone).

  • Is there a firmware update for burning at 16x with Matshita DVD-R UJ 845E?

Is there a firmware update for burning at 16x with Matshita DVD-R UJ 845E? I'm trying to burn a DVD using iDVD on my iBook. The blank DVD's are Memorex 16x (I've used Memorex 8x successfully in the past), the DVD drive is specified above. The finder tells me that the drive has reported an error "sense key=medium error/ sense code=0x73, 0x03" I couldn't find firmware updates in either Panasonic Matshita or Apple websites. Am I forever confined to 8x DVD-R's with this laptop?

    First, welcome to the discussions.
Sorry, No Firmware update to allow you to burn at 16X.
The drive you have is only capable of burning at 8X.
You will also find that for the most part when you recieve errors that it is more often than not attributed to MEDIA.
There are so many problems with the cheaper media they are to numerous to cover.
DVD is not at all like CD burning, in that the technology as well as the Optical Drives used, seem to be touchy, and require the use of good Media. This will allow you trouble free burning without errors.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
You will also find that the reason that DVD-R Media works the best, is because it is the most wirely used and recognised in both Computers and Players.
If I may suggest. There are several 16X DVD's on the market.
Take your time and look at the back of the Jewel Cases and read. You will see that the better Media will tell you that it will burn at 1X through and including 16X, if your drive is capable of handleing these speeds. I prefer Maxell 16X DVD-R Media in the individual Jewel Cases. This Media burns at the slower speeds on the older Superdrives that will only burn at 1X or 2X.
Like many others I have learned my lessons the hard way.

  • Software Update for Nokia N97 Mini

    Hello,
I'm curious when will there be a new software update for Nokia N97 mini.
The latest update was on June or July last year v30.0.004
Would be cool to update it, don't you agree? Almost a year now....

    Hi Abhishek23,
As the N97mini is an older model, its software development and maintenance cycle has ended a number of years ago. There will be no more firmware updates for this device, and every other Symbian device produced in the last few years.....as Symbian is now in maintenance mode and the focus is on the Asha line and the Windows Phone platform of which Lumia is part of.
Nokia should have brought the same improvements to N97 mini which were included in the 41.x.xxx and 42.x.xxx software versions for the C6-00. After all, apart from the camera the C6-00 is the same device as the N97 mini, so it should have been fairly trivial. They are not major changes by no means, but useful.
Unfortunately there is at least one major bug left even in the latest C6-00 firmware: http://www.developer.nokia.com/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=153
It also affects N97 mini with 30.0.004, but it appears Nokia is not going to fix it on either device.

  • Is there any way to get firmware update for my DVD-RW Drive from Ultra 40?

Hi, I have Sun Ultra 40 Workstation which comes with Matshita DVD-RAM drive.
While I do enjoy working on my U40 workstation, its DVD-RAM drive is wll pretty bad.
It just fails to burn DVD/CD-R/RW media too often.
Yes, I got it serviced, but it's just the same.
So my final hope is to get the latest firmware, becuase latest firmware often solves such media compatability issues.
Mine has D100 firmware and I find other people who has the same drive on different system have D101, D200, D201 firmware.
So does anyone know how to contact Sun to get the latest firmware for my DVD-RAM drive?
I did contacted Matshita for this matter and they tell me to contact Sun. But I cannot even find email address for Sun Support or any. sigh...
    Thanks.

    Hello Sang,
I have Sun Ultra 40 Workstation which comes with Matshita DVD-RAM drive.
Mine has D100 firmware and I find other people who has the same drive on different system have D101, D200, D201 firmware.
So does anyone know how to contact Sun to get the latest firmware for my DVD-RAM drive?
I did contacted Matshita for this matter and they tell me to contact Sun.
I did review the Full Components List for the Ultra 40. The only DVD drives listed (Part No. 370-7970) are Panasonic UJ-485 and Teac DV-W28SLA-093. Both aren't capable of reading or writing DVD-RAM.
In some countries Panasonic uses Matshita as brand name.
I did a search on SunSolve with the keywords DVD firmware.
Sun supplies only firmware updates for two DVD readers: Toshiba DVD 1401 (fixes: unable to boot from Solaris 8 DVD) and Toshiba SD-C2732 (fixes: returns incorrect data).
I was unable to update the firmware of the SD-C2732 (Sun part) with the Sun patch. The drive was attached to an Ultra 10 (with an adapter). I ended attaching the drive to a PC and using a DOS boot floppy with the Toshiba flash program and the Sun firmware.
Regarding you problems with the drive: Have you tried another brand of media. The Ultra 40 is under warranty (GA date was February 14, 2006).
Use the contact information from your other thread.
If you search the net for firmware you can locate sites that offers region-code-free firmware for several drives. Usually they provide a flash program (requires creation of a DOS boot floppy). Using these programs/firmware voids your warranty. Maybe you can not revert the firmware upgrade.
These slimline drives have no jumpers, the installed firmware (of the drive) determines if the drive is master, slave, uses cable-select (CS) or reversed CS.

  • Firmware update for e6

hi, my firmware update for e6 doesnt wanna connect. Any time i try checking for updates. It tells me server not responding. And i saw an option where server profiles can be created. Need help and advice. Thanks

I've just upgraded a few weeks ago from a Nokia E71 to a Nokia E6-00.
I've had 3 no. E71 over last 3 years and without doubt, one of the best nokia phones I've had.
Having used the E6-00 for 2 weeks now, I'm reasonably happy but there are a few annoying features:
    1. Normally my phone is locked, i.e. timed to lock after 5 mins. When a call comes in, I can answer the phone but I cannot place it in loudspeaker mode !!. Until I unlock it, which takes a few moments while I tell the person to hold on.
I try to minimise the use of the phone to my ear and use loudspeaker 90% of the time.
It would be great if nokia in the next update to allow to place the call in loudspeaker mode from a locked and answered call state. i.e. provide a loudspeaker button from the locked screen.
    2. The email send & recieve is sketchy, works sometimes, doesn't work most times and when downloading the email content, takes forever just for text content !!, when downloading an attachment...go and have dinner before its ready.
Email on the E6-00 is configured to get email from a pop email server.
    3. The left and right bottom screen buttons (i.e. (Options and Menu) are not configurable anymore like they were in the E71. I liked to have them as Clock and Log.
    4. Battery life is not as good as the E71 but thats just an observation, not expecting miracles here, however, it is still better than most smart phones ... but just not as good as the old E71.
    5. Web browser could be better, although way faster than
Overall, though, I think it will be the right move from my trusted E71, provided the loudspeaker problem in 1 above is sorted.
    Best Regards,
    dcphone

  • Firmware update for HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 wireless to fix load paper issue - as for the 8500?

Is there any hope that that soon will be a firmware update to fix the issues loading paper and the printheads for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 wireless printer?
A month or two ago there came a firmware update to the HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 wireless, which has some of the same issues,
and allegedly should have the much of the same load-mechanism as the 8000 printer.
It would be great, as we are on the fourth (4) replacement of this HP 8000 printer. For example, it would be great if we could use normal (80g) paper and not has to use (HP) 90g paper, as this prevents us from using the duplexer and only print on one side.

Thanks for the advice to contact HP tech support!
I have tried in multiple ways since November 2009 to contact HP, when I got the first (of 4) printers. The first 3 printers was subsequently replaced.
Finally in late June 2010 I got the message that there was coming an firmware update for Windows, but not for Mac's. The firmware should improve among other things the paper pick up (load paper issue) and the print-heads life.
I have applied the Windows firmware on the printer from a pc, but still seems to have load-paper issues, even using HP Bright White paper, when printing from Mac's. I have not tested the printing from a pc, but assumes that a firmware upgrade the printer, and are not specific to a certain OS.

  • Where do I get an SMC Firmware Update for my 21.5 inch Late 2009 iMac?

    Hello Apple Support Communities,
I have a 21.5 inch, Late 2009 Intel iMac. Currently it is running OSX Lion. It is also running Bootcamp with Windows 7 Professional Installed. Recently the Hard drive crashed on me and I ordered a new generic Hitachi from an Apple Reseller. I took all the precautions and asked all the questions, but when I finished the hard drive replacement, the fans within the iMac started running on High. The other people in my office Hate this. I did some research and found that there is a firmware update for the SMC that I should be installing. I looked on the webpage where apple directs you to find out if you need this update, but I can't find my exact specs on the page (here is the page for reference: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237) I can only find an update for the 27 inch model. I tried running that one and the system tells me "This software is not supported on your system."
Here are the specs that the page requested me to find:
    Model Identifier:          iMac10,1
    Boot ROM Version:          IM101.00CC.B00
    SMC Version (system):          1.52f9
Someone please help, this has been bugging me for a while.

I took all the precautions and asked all the questions,
Then I trust you saw this before you did the replacement. Apparently, it's not just a question of getting a drive from the same manufacturer to use with the proprietary cable.
    http://blog.macsales.com/2751-proprietary-cable-can-put-the-brakes-on-upgrading- late-09-imacs
It's acting as if the temp sensor is not connected. I have it bookmarked amidst thousands of bookmarks but can't remember the name right now. There is some program out there that, in the absence of getting data from the internal sensor, will regulate the fan speed based on the SMART temp. If I think of it, I'll post back.
Here it is. It's meant for the 2011 iMac Apple drives, but I don't see why it wouldn't work in your situation.
    http://www.hddfancontrol.com/
BTW, I think John Galt is thinking of the 2011 iMac drives, not the late 2009s, which are not quite as impossible.

  • Where is the firmware update for my ipod touch

I recall that there was a firmware update for my 1st Gen Ipod Touch. I did not do it at the time, but would like to do the update now to the most current firmware available for my touch. I am now on version 2.2.1 (5H11) Can anyone tell me where I can find the newer firmware? Is there any benefits to the new firmware or should I just leave it as is?

  • Firmware Update for my blackberry 8830 world edition with Bell Canada

Hi does anyone know if there is firmware update for the Blackberry 8830 world edition with the carrier being Bell Canada?  I am running version 4.2 and I know there is 4.5 but I am not sure if this applies the my phone with Bell Canada. When I boot up my desktop manager and checks for updates and says that there is no update.  I don't want to update if it is not necessary and not be able to run my blackberry.  If I am able to update where would I go to get the 4.5 update?

You have to repair Desk Manager or unintall and reintall DM, but this time uncheck "Auto update" and anything that refer to "update" the reason why I mention that is because everythime you run DM, it goes online and check for newer version and put this file "vendor.xml" in the Blackberry Common Folder, and with that file in place, it will block the program from installing the newer version from a difference cell company..
From what I see 4.2 is the only version that is up to date for a 8830...but if you have a 8820, you can update to 4.5.

Just purchased a Yoga 2 Pro and found that it came with a Samsung MZMTE256HMHP-000L1 256 GB SSD. This is a member of the Samsung PM851 SSD family, which is essentially an OEM clone of the PM 840 EVO. The 840 Evo has well documented slowdown problems, and as a result, Samsung has released several firmware updates to address the issue. Several other OEM's have released firmware updates for their OEM versions. However, Lenovo has not. Is there a way to update the firmware of this SSD that I'm not finding? Supposedly Samsung Magician won't work. Thanks,C

  • Is there a firmware update for the Apple RAID Card [early 2009 Xserve] that will take it beyond the E-1.3.2.0 version and allow it to see 4TB drives?

Is there a firmware update for the Apple RAID Card [early 2009 Xserve] that will take it beyond the E-1.3.2.0 version and allow it to see 4TB drives?

I have a few of these RAID cards in a couple servers, and then I have an earlier version of the RAID card in a few different servers.
The earlier servers are running non-apple 1.5 TB drives. It will be interesting to learn if this firmware update will indeed allow me to boost the capacity by installing non-apple drives, as the firmware previously has not.
Ohh I'm excited to update and try! This will greatly help out if it does!
