Firmware Update Gone Wrong

I'm on a 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, trying to install the Macbook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.3.
It won't install.
I follow the directions, and on restart, it still prompts me for the flippin' install, and says to rinse and repeate. On reboot, it does not bring up the firmware update status bar that I'm used to seeing on previous updates... but instead, just boots as normal.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks for the help everyone.
It is indeed a 15 inch, and I did just try the 1.0 update, then the firmware update again, but no dice. It still won't boot up and do the update for some odd reason.
Here is my hardware configuration fwiw:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B00
SMC Version: 1.16f8
As you can see, the SMC is not at the correct number either.
Any suggestions on how to proceed would be appreciated.
Thanks !

  • Nokia 5800 v50 firmware update gone wrong

    Hey guys,
I installed v50 firmware over the air. I had to uninstall some programs because the update complained of lack of space, so I uninstalled Ovi client and related software and some location aware thing that I don't remember the name.
Then flashed the firmware... all went well, phone turned on.
While on the home screen after some seconds I got a message saying that something failed to install (it didn't say what). I still was able to use my phone however, now the camera software doesn't work.
Any tips ? Do I need to do a hard-reset on the phone and install firmware again ? And how can I do a hard-reset ?
    Thanks a lot!

Yes, since there is a space problem a hard reset would be a good option before reinstalling. Remember that it deletes everything so make sure you have a backup.
A hard reset (x6, 5800 and 5230 only) is done by the following (warning, this deletes all data on your phone):
1.) Turn off the phone and remove battery for 5min
    2.) Reinsert battery
3.) Press and hold the green, red and camera buttons. DO NOT LET GO.
4.) While holding the three buttons, press the power key to boot the phone up.
5.) Keep on pressing until you see the country selection screen.
A correctly done hard reset would show you that everything on the phone (contacts, messages, calendar entries, etc) would be deleted. So it is advisable to back them up. Upon restoration, do not restore settings or files if possible.

  • N70 update gone wrong

Ok well my Nokia N70 kept freezing and when I searched this on google it came up with a link to the Nokia site for a firmware update. I did this, followed the instructions and was just about to complete the update when I knocked the usb cable with my foot and the cable came out. Now my phone wont even turn on!! What should I do??

that's bad, have you tried turning it on with the cable plugged in, if that doesn't work take it to a nokia service centre they'll help you out.http://www.apps.nokia.co.uk/clubnokiaservice/Message Edited by 6280 on 19-Jan-2007

  • Update gone wrong

    hi guys,
i've got a nokia 6300 and while I was doing the update yesterday something has gone very wrong. the mobile phone switched of never to come back to life. every time i try to switch it on the blue lights on the side turn on for a few seconds but nothing appears on the display.
anything i can do before taking it to a nokia care point?
    many thanks,
    JP

no unfortunately there is nothing you can do with your phone besides taking it to nokia care. your phone is based on s40 platform and there are no codes or button sequnece that you can try to revive it. your only option is to take it and have them flash the phone and bring it back for you. sorry mate, i know this is not what you were hoping for.

  • Firmware flash gone wrong

    Hi,
I have the 975X Platinum PowerUp Edition board which uses the Micron® JMB361 chipset.
I needed to flash a sunix PCI card, in order to make it get the it to be used as an IDE card, in my system last night. I used Hirens boot cd and it loaded the drivers for the Jmicron chipset when I booted into DOS. Then when I flashed the card something went wrong and after a couple of screens of garbage it finally said something about Jmicron blah blah blah. Anyway I then booted up my machine and I can use windows fine, but as soon as I transfer data my pc just hangs.
So I was wondering anyone who has the same board can backup there firmware and supply me with the firmware for this Jmicron chipset so that I can reflash it?

I still don't understand what this has to do with JMicron chipset/mainboard at all.  The JMicron BIOS is usually updated when you flash your mainboard's BIOS.
What happens if you remove your PCI card?
    Quote
fter a couple of screens of garbage it finally said something about Jmicron blah blah blah
It would be good to know what kind of message you actually got.  "Something/blah blah blah" doesn't really help, does it?
    Quote
as soon as I transfer data
    Please be more specific.
Provide full system specs.  How many hard drives and optical drives are connected to the system?  What ports are they hooked up to?
There are four SATA ports and one IDE port hosted by the Intel ICH7DH Controller and one additional SATA port + a secondary IDE port hosted by the JMicron Controller.  If you use only the Intel ports to connect your drives and disable the JMicron Controller in BIOS, do you have problems as well? Please try.

  • Smc update gone wrong???

I have a macbook air 13" mid 2012 with mountain lion, when i tried to install the smc update my fan started to run at full speed, keyboard lights gone, charger light gone, and it wont work without the charger pluss many other things. Any suggestions?

    Try recovery mode:
    1. Start iTunes.
    2. Connect phone to a USB port directly on the computer, not an external hub or keyboard port.
    3. Press both home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo appears, then continue pressing the home button alone until iTunes sees the phone in Recovery Mode.
    4. Follow the prompts to restore.

  • Another update gone wrong?????

    OK, this is totally ********!
I updated to the latest iTunes (6.0.2) and the latest iPod update for both my 5G 60GB and my Photo 60GB.
I don't know which one is the uclprit (iTunes update or iPod update), but now, almost ALL of my ratings, which took me WEEKS to do, are gone! Some of the songs have ratings, and a good many of the songs have a 1/2 star rating! How in the heck does a 1/2 star get in there? It's not possible to do in iTunes or on the iPod.
Now I've got to re-enter ALL of my Ratings!!!! Play counts and last played seem to be untoched. I'm REALLY MIFFED!

That's REALLY bugging me as well, becuase I Always make backups of the library files, but I forgot to this time.
I just wonder why I had so many files with large playcounts but no last played dates, and where the 1/2 stars came from.
Incidentally, I realized that the library was probably fine, until I synched my 4th Gen Photo. That iPod had all the ratings messed up, but my 5th gen, which I synch almost every day had all the ratings intact..
It must have been the update to the 4th gen that screwed me up, and when I synched it, it copied the ratings back to iTunes. My ratings were all on the old 4Gen prior to the update, so that must have been it.

  • 6120c - update gone wrong - recovering - emergency...

I recently updated my Nokia 6120c in line with the recommendation indicated on the screen. I used as USB cable and connected to the Nokia Software manager and gave approval to update my mobile. This took some time, but at the end I have not been able to turn my phone on, or even get the computer to recognise the phone via the Nokia Management Software.
Can anyone please advise me on how I can reset the phone to factory pre-sets when the phone doesn't turn on and I can't get the Nokia software to recognise the phone.
Your assistance in this matter is very much appreciated as I currently havea "dead" phone.
    A desperate nokia phone user

    First try a hard reset:
    Hard reset:
    1. Switch off the phone.
    2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.
    3. While holding these buttons, press the power button and switch on the phone.
    4. Release when the phone shows the nokia logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen.
Then try: run the updater, connect the phone when prompted and leave it for a few mins. It may go into recovery mode and reload the firmware.
If that fails to fix it read this post by drummer27 and try what he did:
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=swupdate&message.id=14152#M14152
If all that fails then you will have to take your phone to a nokia care point for repair.

  • Update gone wrong help please

    Hi
I have an N95 8Gb, which I am trying to pdate to the latest software. I needed to do some updates on PC suite and Nokia updater ( as I havnt used either for a while ). I did a back up which seemed to work fine as I have a big content copie file. I then proceeded to update. The new software downloaded ok and started to install, it all seemed to be going OK until the pc lost connection with the phone. I got instructions to remove the cable, battery and re-connect ( can't just remember the exact order but I followed it ) and hit retry, it didn't re-connect so I tried several times. The software has now hung at this point, and I can only escape my disconnecting the USB. Now my phone won't boot or connect. Anyone, please where do I go from here ?
    Many thanks
    Steve

The article isn't mine, it was written by a friend who goes by the name "psychomania" round these parts.
If the phone does get bricked, a Nokia Care Point usually has the necessary hardware and software to revive it or can sent it off to a service centre where they definitely have what's needed. So, your assumption was correct.
The content copier file is so large because of all the additional stuff not in the ROM that's installed with the firmware. Stuff like Ngage, for example, which takes up about 15 MB all on its lonesome. Then there are third-party themes you may have installed, additional software, user files...

  • Nokia Software Update gone wrong?

    Hey guys,
I'll try to be brief enough to avoid boring you. I started this thread off in the wrong forum apparently, and am told this is the correct place.
Basically, my PC Suite software has been rendered unusable, because every time my device attaches to it, it crashes. It appears to crash every time it synchronizes. And I can't stop it from synchronizing, for example, I destroyed the sync configuration on both the software and on the phone, and it still displays the synchronization complete message on the phone, and the PC Suite software crashes.
This was all working 100% yesterday.
I assume the problem has been caused by me updating the phone software, new version tag:
    V 06.01
    20-05-08
    RM-198
    (c)Nokia
    PC Suite software 7.0.7.0
Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
The issue is apparent whether I connect the phone using the USB cable, or bluetooth,
    the phone is a 6085
Thanks in advance for any insight.

Go to a Nokia Service Point.

  • HT1222 Latest update gone wrong

I downloaded this last update, IOS 6.1.3 to my phone and the email button crashed.  My email accounts were gone.  I tried to readd both accounts and it won't accept them.  I tried to use the individual apps for the email accounts, no luck.  What gives?

    3 things:
1: Reset: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Note: You will not lose any data
2: Restore from backup using computer iTunes.
    3. Restore as new without the backup and sync back the content manually.

  • Z87-g45 bios update gone wrong

Hi, I'm a noob here and wish I found this forum a little earlier. I updated my bios to 1.6 a little while back, using the live update tool. (not a good thing to do I've learned) and now my bios logo keeps flickering before finally booting into windows. The one thing I hadn't done was resetting the cmos. My question is whether it is still usefull to do it now or should I revert back first to 1.5 with the forum tool? My comodo AV b.t.w. saw the forum tool as a trojan dropper - I take it is a false positive?

    Yes, false positive.
Forum's USB flash method is excellent and ensures the ME firmware is properly installed. Since you can still get Windows to boot, best to leave it alone and reflash using the archive in the link along with the forum flash. USB stick formatted FAT32, use the tool's 'Fix My USB Key' option prior to letting the tool load the flash files for you. At the 10 second prompt, restart and set the USB stick as the only bootable device, Save and Exit and follow the prompt when in DOS.

Don't forget to install the ME driver available for download at an MSI Website after the flash.

  • ITunes 11 update gone wrong

Ok....so I have been using iTunes 10.7 (or whatever the latest one before iTunes 11 is) on my Windows laptop and it has been working fine ever since i bought my iPhone 5. When my Apple Update told me to update to iTunes 11, I tried to update it and it gave me a red exclamation point and said there was an issue updating iTunes. When I clicked on the file that saved (iTunes64Setup), I clicked “Run” and then a pop-up came up saying:
“An error occurred while writing installation information to disk. Check to make sure enough disk space is available, and click Retry, or Cancel to end the install.”
I click “Retry”, and nothing. The issue is, I have plenty of disk space and I cannot figure out what this means. I have tried everything complicated and simple to try and solve this problem but I can’t figure it out. It’s exhausting and I tried down-grading to a lower iTunes but still nothing. Help, help, help!

This happened to me too after adding another user account on my pc and sharing my library between all windows accounts. I found out that the songs that did not sync where missing the apropriate rights on windows.
E.g.: I used my pc on my own. For sharing my library with my wife, i moved the whole iTunes folder to a seperate partitition. I created an account (windows) for my wife, logged in, configured iTunes to use the library on the new partition and tried to sync her iPod. Yet it started to sync, nothing was synced to the iPod. It just stopped on song number 1.
Going deeper into this, i discovered that her windows account didn't have the windows rights to (although her account is an administrative one and the whole partition was set to "everyone-full access". I added her account and replaced all existing rights (to all subfolders and files). That did the trick.
Be careful when using the windows library (e.g. adding the folder "music" of your iTunes to the music library, so that the new music app on Win8 can play your songs) and sharing them in your home network. This will change the rights on your files again.

  • IOS 5 Update gone wrong

So i was one of the people who purchased iOS 5 beta software by supplying my UDID to an internet company. When i tried to update my iPhone it told me that i had the most current/up to date version of the software.
I then performed a Hard reset of everything on the phone and when i did so, it told me that i was not registered as an apple developer and that i needed to register in order to continue. So currently my phone is in limbo right now with no service provider and im not sure what to do...
Is there any way Apple can unlock my phone? I am not an Apple developer i was just being curious and wanted to see what the early hype was all about regarding iOS 5 software.
    Any advice is appreciated

Maybe the "internet company" you purchased IOS 5 beta from can help you.

  • 10.3.9 combo update gone wrong

Hi. I started out with a base os of 10.3.5. I recently got DSL so i decided to update the computer. I used the auto-update and it downloaded the update. After a restart, I had it update again. After a second restart, I went online because I noticed that the finder did not match the pictures online(I.E. it has the functions to switch user, not log out) I tried repairing disk permissions figuring that it could just be something odd. I found:
    A.it ran 10.3.9 software
B.It could not run "diskimagemounter" to open .dmg files
C.it was missing all the drivers for USB and sound
D.After being shut down, it would not reboot using the hard drive's X folder.
E.(After searching through many boxes [i just moved] i found the disk) Archive and (install?) always has errors at 1%
    F.Disk First Aid fails saying,
"Disk utility stopped repairing 'Macintosh HD'
because the following error was encountered:
The underlying task reported failure on exit"
In the repair log it says:
    Repairing disk for "Macintosh HD"
    Checking Catalog file.
    invalid key length
    Volume check failed
I don't want to clean install this computer because my sister needs files off of the hard drive..
Can i create a new disk partition in which to install a second copy of 10.3.5, boot off that one, and move all the files?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.5)
P.S. it won't boot at all off the hard drive currently and my warrenty has exspired

If your Mac won't boot at all from it's own hard drive, and you can't repair the disk or do an Archive & Install, or erase the disk, your only option would seem to be to move those files your sister needs off the hard disk, then erase the drive and reinstall OS X from scratch.
However, if what you said about using the auto-update (Software Update) feature was true, you did not do a 10.3.9 Combo Update. This has never been part of Software Update and would not show up when you run it. You must have done a 'delta' update from 10.3.8 to 10.3.9 instead. If you reinstall 10.3, you would then need to download and install the 10.3.9 Combo Update, which is approximatelyy 117 MB in size.
    Hope this helps,
    Mulder
