Firmware Update in Incompatible Software Folder

After installing Snow Leopard I received a message from the Setup Assistant notifying me of incompatible software on my computer. I went to the 'Incompatible Software' folder and found SuperDrive firmware Update 2.1 (2007) for my 1st generation Macbook Pro 15''.
I assume this refers to incompatibility with the update package, and not the actual update to my hard drive that I obviously installed at the time. I just want to check to make sure that this is true, and if so can I delete the updater?

Thanks for your help. It was not listed in my software update so I just deleted it.
In the meantime I located 3 more updaters in the Utilities folder in 'Applications': Firmware Updater, EFI Firmware Updater, and SMC Firmware Update. All of these were installed back in 2006 (and are not listed in 'Software Update', so can I also delete these files?

  • SuperDrive Ap in Incompatible Software Folder

Updated MacBook Pro and in the Incompatible Software folder is "SuperDrive Update 2.1.app" from June, 2007. I don't think I need to worry about that, but just checking. I'm OK on the SuperDrive, yes?

    You're fine. delete it.

Do firmware updates come with Software Update and installed automatically?

Do firmware updates come with Software Update
    Yes.
    and installed automatically?
No (at least, I can't think of one that has automatically run). Usually Software Update will download an updater that you then need to run separately. Usually the updaters will be installed to the Utilities folder ready for you to use.

  • 'Incompatible Software' folder

SL upgrade is safely in place, the incompatible apps/plugins are quarantined in the 'Incompatible Software' folder. In my case there are just 2 plists. Is it okay just to delete this folder?

  • Why has Mountain Lion has moved Parallels 7 to the Incompatible Software folder even though this version is supposed to compatible?

I have Parallels Version 7.0.15094 but on upgrading to Mountain Lion it has been moved to the Incompatible Software folder.  From what I've read Version 7 is supposed to be compatible so does anyone know why this has happened and what I can do to fix it?

I have the same version on my MBP and upgraded to Mountain Lion. It's right where it was before the upgrade. I would try to run it and see if it crashes. If you've had parallels for a while and followed the upgrade path, it may have left some loose baggage on an upgrade. I would back up the virtual machines and try a clean load. Check the parallels site. They seem to have most of the bases covered.

  • How to remove wd essential firmware update in the download folder

after I download WD Essential Firmware update in the download folder, I can;t remove the file.  Any suggestion?

Open App/Utilities/Activity Monitor.app  and quit the WD QuickView process.
Go to Library/Application Support/WD SmartWare, where you will find WDQuickView.app. Move it to trash and delete it.
You may have to reboot to clear the menubar extras or in terminal copy and Paste:
    killall SystemUIServer

  • HT3258 My 'Incompatible Software' folder was empty after 10.6 (Snow Leopard) install (upgrade)_

After installing Snow Leopard (10.6.3) over my 10.5.8 OSX, my 'Incompatible Software' folder was empty, save for a Read Me.rtf file that had no application-specific details inside.  So does this mean I had NO incompatible software?  I have the following apps:
    Adobe Creative Suite CS3
    MS Office 2008
    Finale 2009 (music notation software)
ProTools LE appears to be missing, but is not listed in the Incompatible Software folder
FYI - Adobe Illustrator quit when I opened a file for the first time. Seems to be working now.

It sounds like you didn't have any incompatible.  You should be good to go.

  • Firmware Update on N82 - Software Updater Problem

    Hi
This is my fisrt post to this forum but I have read a fair bit of the information already posted.
I realise this question is asked frequently, but my problem seems to be a little different. Phone is N82 with V11 firmware and it is unbranded. Nokia site indicates V30 firmware available.
Have loaded latest versions of Nokia PC Suite and Software Updater (several times!!).
Software suite works OK for Map and Music stuff. But when I try to load the Software Updater software, the installation goes through the first stage OK and always hangs on the configuration stage. There is no Windows error message.
I have to go into Windows Task Manager to kill the Software Updater application and then the PC will not shut down properly until I kill the nsl_host_process.exe application, - so this seems to be related to the problem.
I am using Win XP SP2 (German) and have tried both the English and German versions of PC Suite and Software Updater, but problem is always the same.
I have no Virus Checker or Firewall operating (except a Firewall on the Router, which I think will not affect this file). Internet connection and downloading are fine for all other operations.
(I have tried to use another PC (Thinkpad) but unfortunately the Software Updater will not install here because in needs 256MB free RAM Memory.
So, I am stuck at present, unless any of you knowledgeable folks have any ideas!
    Thanks
    Stonefish28

  • Screen Frozen while updating OS X and have INCOMPATIBLE SOFTWARE

I was updating to OS X and received message INCOMPATIBLE SOFTWARE  -- It has been moved to Incompatible SOftware Folder, but the screen is FROZEN and I AM STUCK

    Hi ParamountJon,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your Mac stopped responding during an OS X update, first see if you can force quit unresponsive applications:
OS X: How to quit an unresponsive application using Force Quit
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3411
If you're not able to force quit applications, you may need to restart the computer by holding down the power button. I recommend performing a Safe Boot when you start up again:
Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564
Safe Mode is a way to start up your Mac that performs certain checks and prevents certain software from automatically loading or opening.
To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), follow these steps.
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key.
The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
After the logo appears, you should see a progress bar during startup. This indicates that your computer is performing a directory check as part of Safe Mode.
For more information about incompatible software, see this article:
OS X: About the incompatible software folder

    All the best,
    Jeremy

  • MacBook Pro Firmware Updates in software Update

What are these 3 Firmware updates for? I get two sequential and one Keyboard firmware updates in the Software Updater, but don't know why I need to install them?

Thanks - My point was to ask why I need them? There are no problems with my 2.33 Ghz MBP, and I know from experience, not to just update everything that comes along.

  • Migrate to new iMac from old iMac and am getting 'incompatible software' message.

Im trying to migrate to new iMac from old iMac and am getting 'incompatible software' message. I'm not sure what to do- can I revert back to snow leopard from mavericks?

    Hi Mark,
If you install Mavericks, or in your case migrate from an old computer running Snow Leopard (or an earlier version of Mac OS X) to one using Mavericks, some of your software that was designed to run on older computers may not function in the new OS. See this article -
OS X: About the incompatible software folder
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3258
    In particular -
If you see a message indicating that you can't use "this version" of an app, contact the software's vendor or visit their website to see if a later, compatible version of the app is available. If you purchased the software from the Mac App Store, use Software Update to see if an updated version is available there.
    and
During installation, OS X moves known-incompatible software to a folder named "Incompatible Software" at the top level of the startup drive. If this folder is present on your Mac, see what applications are in it, then check for available updates. To obtain a newer version of an Apple app, check the Mac App Store, or visit the Apple Store website.
Regarding installing an older operating system on your new iMac, Apple does not support doing this, as described in this article -
Don't install a version of Mac OS X earlier than what came with your Mac
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

  • Repeated reports of "Incompatible Software" at startup

Since upgrading from 10.6.2 to 10.6.3, Mac OS X has repeatedly announced as my Login Items are starting up ...
    "*Incompatible Software*
Some of the software on your computer is incompatible with this version of Mac OS X."
I never saw this message with 10.6.2, and I can't imagine what I may have added recently that could be causing this.
There's an "Incompatible Software" folder at the root of my boot drive, but all it contains is a Read Me file that says ...
"Some of the software on your computer is incompatible with this version of Mac OS X. Because this software may cause problems with your computer, it has been moved. You can delete incompatible software that was moved."
How should I go about eliminating this annoying message?

This is all I know: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3258 Delete the folder and restart. See if it brings up the dialog again.

  • MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0

    Hello,
I receive regular updates of the "MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0" software. Each time I download, restart and let the update install. Each time it says update istalled succesfully... Yet each time I get the upgrade notice.
Worse now, iTunes says there is a software upgrade. But when I want to download it again I get the EFI upgrade announcement, but not the iTunes upgrade downloaded...
I've done a complete maintenance run, repair, rebuild, etc... but same results.
Thanks for any hint on what may be going wrong or how I can fix this.

I copied the version number from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1331. That may be a misprint or typo on Apple's part. I'm posting a message asking about that in a special forum available only to level 4 or 5 users that sometimes gets replies from the folks that maintain those articles.
If I hear anything that confirms that, I will post back here, but for now I think it is safe to assume "B05" is correct.

  • HT1998 When will Apple release an new firmware update (7.6.5 or higher) for the Airport Express/Extreme?

I am sure most of you know how terrible the 7.6.3 firmware for the airpot express/extreme is.  I was on the phone with Apple technical support and they had admitted there are issues with this lastest firmware and confirmed they are working on it.  I know how well Apple fixes their issues however it has been over 6 months and nothing.  Because of all these issues, I have had to roll back all my airport equipment to 7.6.1 mainly to use the Airplay feature. Is there any projection for a new update or is Apple just ignoring this issue!?

What problem are you having exactly? I have updated  to 7.6.3 and AirPlay works just fine in fact better especially with iTunes. All my wireless devices show up  as soon as they are turned on or  in range.
Not trying to predict anything here, but if the firmware update  IS defective software, Apple probably would've fixed it by now.
