Firmware Update Increases Macbook Audio Level

Did anyone notice an increase in the audio level of their Macbook after update? It seems much louder now. It was previously difficult to hear.

I never had problem with the speaker loudness - but I do feel (just a feeling - not 100% sure) that the speakers are louder now. I can watch a movie from accross the room and still hear it clearly. Mind you, my house is whisper quiet =)

  • Is firmware update (G4 Sawtooth audio fix) mandatory for upgrading to OSX?

Ive heard that you have to use the old Mac OS 9.1 to update the G4's firmware before installing OSX tiger. My problem is that ive bought a G4 without any existing operating systems and only have OSX tiger to put on it. I think the firmware is just an audio fix or something,
    has anyone updated without it?

Sorry but no. You have to use Classic to update it. Yeah well PC has no need to update firmware becuase they don't use Open Firmware, I think it's a UNIX thing. Not really sure on it, but if you'd like to know you can go to http://www.openfirmware.org
By the way, if you want Classic I can send you a disk that worked for my G4 AGP, I ordered two by accident. It installed in literally 2 minutes. It's extremely easy to install and it's worth it, booting up with new firmware is quicker. Not by much, but with a 450 mhz processor you'll notice the difference!

  • Lets get Apple to increase the audio levels again

Hi everyone! Well, I sold my 2.16 C2D on eBay and I just bought the new 2.2 model. I broke even selling the old and buying this one. So I think its a great deal. Anyway, I'm happy with the new machine. Speed and everything else is the same to me but the graphics are killer. Way better than the 128mb x1600. So far I've only tried it out on call of duty 2 but I'm more than satisfied.
So my reason for starting this thread is that we should all write to Apple's feedback section (which I can not find right now) and let them know that we would like the audio levels to increase again just like in 10.4.9.
The audio was low up to 10.4.8, in 10.4.9 the audio was much louder, and in 10.4.10 it went back to how it used to be. Now I know why Apple did this. It was because of all the 24" iMac users who complained about the audio being way too loud on the lowest volume setting. I know exactly how loud it was- my brother is one of those 24" iMac users. Reverting the audio level makes sense for iMac users but for everyone else its a downgrade. Especially since Apple sells a lot more notebooks than desktops.
A solution to this would be putting out a patch for just notebook users. Its really a major issue to me and I have not upgraded to 10.4.10 on this new machine because I'm in love with the fact of actually being able to hear the speakers on the MBP.

Are you serious? I'm running 10.4.9 right now I can't hear anything on iTunes until the 2nd or 3rd volume setting. Yes, I have sound check and everything else off.
Don't even wanna imagine what it will be like again when I have to go to 10.4.10.

  • Deleting old "Bluetooth Firmware Updater" on MacBook!?

So I just bought an Apple Wireless Keyboard and installed the Bluetooth Firmware Updater on my MacBook. Looks like the updater is way outdated (the installation guide encourages you to install it on newer systems though) and now I can't get rid of it. It sits right under applications/utilities. Can I savely delete it or is there a cleaner approach?

The updater can be safely deleted if the keyboard is working as intended.

  • Firmware update made MacBook Pro hotter?

I just installed the SMC Firmware updater and now CoreDuoTemp reports an average of 63-64C. Before it was reporting around 34C on average. ***?

Are the fans now quieter, ie. did the install of SMC instruct the fans to slow down so as to specifically keep the CPU temp at 63-64C?

  • Increase audio level of a portion of a track

I have put together a number of clips to create my track. Now I need to increase the audio level of a portion of the track. Is this possible???
    Thank you

    Thanks for the fast reply.
I am looking at that right now but will have to admit I am Mac dumb. This is my first Mac and only GB project attempt. I lost on how to: Turn the "curve" on
Choose the curve you want to work with from the pop-up menu at the left of the row.
Click the rectangular LED next to the name to turn on the curve for editing.
The curve is a horizontal line extending the length of the track. If you move the track’s slider (for volume curves) or dial (for pan curves) before adding any control points, the entire curve moves up or down to the level of the slider or dial.

  • My audio levels barely increase at all when adjusting in the timeline

    Hello.
I am new to Premiere Pro (from FCP).
When I attmept to increase the audio levels using the yellow handles which live on the actual audio track in the timeline, they only increase by a very small amount when dragging "up". If I drag down, I can decrease them to zero (-60db), but I cannot increase them much higher than 12.
I have some tracks which desperately need to be louder. I tried increasing them using "Amplify" in Audition, but that disrupts the audio so that it sounds garbled and "underwater" sounding.
      I'm hoping there's a fix for this.
    Thanks.

I can understand how different sources (different mics or tracks, for example) can result in phase cancellation.
That would not create phase cancellation.
..unless you are saying that when a clip is placed in the timeline its position is not really precise.
I am not saying that at all.
Notice I used the words "...could potentially..." in post #3.
Why tempt fate by using a cumbersome method of increasing
a clip's Gain by duplicating a track when the potential implications
    are not fully understood?

  • MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update/Keyboard update- Do I need this?

Software update is offering me the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware update and a Keyboard Firmware update.
I have not experienced any issues at all with my MacBook Pro.
Should I install these updates anyway?
What is the best practice? Should one just update everything all the time? If I do not, could I fall behind, and could I be forced to dig up older updates down the road to catch up?
    Thanks.

  • Any way to increase audio level of your movie?

I've uploaded a taped video into iMovie and when I play it back, the volume level is too low (I can hear it but it's not loud). I've increased the system pref vol, the vol level, and the volume level in iMovie so everything has been turned all the way up.
I saw where you can extract the audio. What can you do with it when you extract it? Incresase it? And if you can increase it, how would you add the audio back to the movie?
What I want to know is, is there another way to increase the volume if you've turned up all the computer volume controls and it's too low?
    Mark

The best place to increase / adjust audio levels assuming the source video footage has something to work with is in the video editing app. Have you tried posting this question to the iMovie forum?
If your iMovie has low audio levels to start with then this will also be reflected w/in iDVD if no adjustments are made beforehand. Hope this makes sense.
Also check in the iMovie Help Menu if you haven't already:
I can't hear the audio in my movie
If you can't hear some or all of the audio in your movie, here are some things you can check:
Make sure your computer's volume is turned up. Use the speaker controls on your keyboard or the volume slider in the menu bar.
Use the volume slider below the iMovie monitor to increase the movie volume.
Make sure the audio checkbox is selected for the track you want to hear. The audio checkbox is to the right of each track in the timeline viewer.
If the audio checkbox is selected, then choose View > Show Clip Volume Levels and see if the audio levels for the tracks are set to a level that can be heard.
Making your movie louder or softer
If you find that all or part of your movie is too loud or too soft, you can adjust the volume of your movie in the timeline viewer. You can increase or decrease the volume of the entire movie or just specific audio clips. For example, at a certain point in a video you might dramatically increase or decrease the volume of accompanying music.
IMPORTANT: These instructions are for setting the volume of video that people will hear as they play your movie. If you only want to adjust the volume of your computer's speakers, see "Adjusting the volume of your computer in iMovie HD" below.
To make your movie louder or softer:
Click the Timeline Viewer button (shown above).
Select the clip or clips whose volume you want to change in the timeline viewer.
Tip: To learn how to select multiple clips, see "Selecting clips" below.
Click the clip volume button (shown below), and then drag the slider to adjust the volume.
Tip: You can also type a new percentage in the field next to the clip volume button to adjust volume.
You can also make finer audio adjustments within a clip. For more information, see "Fading audio up or down."

  • I just applied an EFI firmware update to a intel core 2 duo macbook, now it won't boot up

After applying an EFI firmware update, the Macbook just spins the optical drive when I start it up!  I didn't see any indication that the EFI firmware update had any problems, so I'm stumped!

And if you can't get in, you can't read the Boot Rom version…
I suspect the update may have been OK for the MB but not for the OS version.
Unfortunately I have no idea if it's even possible to roll back a firmware update, or to maybe install a later OS like 10.6 while it's in that condition.
Bigger guns than me needed here, I'm afraid.
