Firmware update solution

Ok this has been mentioned in another thread but just in case people haven't seen it.
I have the Nokia N95 8gb & windows vista trying to upgrade from 11 to 15 firmware. After a minute you get the nokia layer host has stopped working, this is what I did to solve the problem. I shut down NUS with task manager, I did not turn off phone or disconnect cable. I restarted NUS & after a few minutes it recognised my phone (it told me to remove batt & cable, reconnect & try again. I did not do this but left phone connected & turned on)I pressed retry & hey presto it loaded up the new firmware!!! The new Flash Lite is excellent.
The only problem I'm having now is the content copier seems reluctant to to put the old settings back into the phone from the PC.

Please read threads on this forum about Vista problems. Nokia is aware of this and are working on a fix.

  • FOUND SOLUTION TO: "Firmware Update Failure.Diskwrite Error"

I have found a solution to the:
    "FIRMWARE UPDATE FAILURE. DISKWRITE ERROR."
Last night i re-encoded my mp3's to 128kbs, and then plugged my iPod Shuffle in, and it went crazy... i tried restoring and it kept giving me the error above!
Anyways, here's a solution (that may require to be tried a couple of times)...
If you keep getting this error, go to My Computer, then right click the iPod (maybe called "Removable Storage").
Go to Format... and make sure its set at FAT32. Also make sure that "Quick Format" is unticked.
Once this is done. Eject it. Plug it into another USB slot, and go to iPod Updater and restore. It should work.
And then rename the ipod thru iTunes, and upload ur music on to it!
    Enjoy and Good luck!

So are there any risks involved in formatting with windows?
I just tried doing this and it won't format (I select the option but there is no response)

  • Possible Solution to Apples not Being Able to Connect to WRT54G After 1.01.0 Firmware Update

So like everyone else that has apples on their networks, ours did not work after the 1.01.0 firmware update.  However after a few hours and messing around, I finally got them to work with the router without having to downgrade to .9.
So far they still work thorugh a restart and a cold start, so I'm hoping that this fix will stick.
To get this to work you need to have another open wireless connection that you can connect to and get online with.
    Steps:
    1) First open up safari or whatever you use... (obviously doesn't load otherwise you wouldn't be reading this)
    2) Connect to the open wireless network, and then hit refresh... (it should load up the page this time)
    3) Go back up and reconnect to your router.... now try your internet again using your connection.  It *should* work fine...  and you shouldn't have to do it ever again...
    Good luck, hope this helps

HI  , just an addition to the above.....for MAC's go to system preferneces and then to network...choose you network card uner "connect using" and then under the TCP/IP tab select configure manually.....assign a static IP , subnet and gateway to the MAC along with the DNS entries....this static IP will work with the 1.01.0 firmware version .

  • Firmware update problem with raid mirrored drives and solution

Note this - the firmware update will not install from a software mirrored boot drive. It will install just fine from a non-mirrored clone. So, make a clone, set it as your boot drive from system preferences, and all is good.

Well this is a pain, this is what I figured I would have to do but c'mon apple, I am sure people are not going want to hassle with making a clone, finding or buying a single drive to install the OS to, boot that drive, install the firmware patch, reboot, make sure it took, tear down the system, swap the soft-RAID set of drives back in etc. etc. etc.
This is another reason why Apple need to take note from the PC world, I know they like to "Think Different" when it comes to things like this but they really need to give access to and write a driver for the supported on-chip hardware RAID controller located in the Motherboards Southbridge chip of THIS motherboard, just like all other woodcrest Xeon based systems running the same intel motherboard chipset!
I am sure this post will get me a long list of flames from the Apple fanboys explaining how what Apple is doing is really better, or telling me that if I want hardware RAID 5 to just go and buy $6000 xServe RAID setup.
Well I better quit typing so I can tear apart my system, find a hard drive to install OSX on.....See you guys in a few hours

  • Macbook4,1 10.6.8 and firmware update - what went wrong?

Macbook 4,1 2008 2.4Ghz (not unibody). I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled 10.6 from the Retail DVD and all seemed to go well. The MB was working fine up to that point. I then set up the MB (network, date and time, etc.) and repaired permissions.
I then checked Software Update and downloaded and installed the recommended updates to 10.6.8.
Again, all seemed to go fine. System booted and I repaired Permissions again. I went to the Apple web site, a couple of other web sites, and Software Update found another update to install: Firmware. Though I don't remember what version.
I clicked OK and it installed.
Upon reboot, it seemed to install okay.
But then I left the Macbook and it went into Sleep.
I didn't come back to it again until the next day.
When I pressed a key to wake it, I got what I now know is the screen that appears after you wake it from SAFE SLEEP. As per this Apple KB article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1757.
And this is where the problems started.
After the MB woke to the Safe Sleep screen, which shows the desktop a little "out of focus", the progress bars started filling in from left to right, BUT before they completed, the screen went BLACK.
And it has had a problem with black screen ever since. I can boot the MB from internal or external HD or from DVD, and it seems to boot fine. Boot chime, Apple logo, spinning wheel, then at the point where it pauses, blue screen, then goes to desktop, instead the screen goes black.
It finishes booting, but seems to go into Sleep.
I can wake it by pressing a key, but the screen either comes on and goes black again after 10 seconds, or I get the Safe Sleep wake screen, and then it goes black after 10 seconds.
And at boot or when waking the MB, the front LED flashes 5 times. There are no error beeps.
I've tried changing RAM, but problems remain.
So what's all this? Any ideas?
The display doesn't seem dead, as it works to boot and wake. The MB works fine with external monitor.
It's weird, but I can't think of anything apart from the Firmware update. The problems started right after installing it.
Unfortunately, this model of Macbook doesn't have a Firmware Restoration image to download and burn to CD. It is the ONLY Mac at this point that doesn't have this!
I called Apple support and even bought the 49 Euro Pay Per Incident service, which proved to be the same as throwing 49 Euro out the window. The only "technical" support they provided was to Reset the SMC, which you can find out about FOR FREE at the Apple website. And which I'd done anyway. I'd also reinstalled the MacOS. Don't want to beef too much, but sheesh, you've already got a Macbook that might need costly repairs, and they make you pay 49 Euro BEFORE they even ask you about the problem and what you've done to try to solve it. I'm tempted to say "ripoff". I mean, if all they can offer you is the advice to reset the SMC - which Apple offers for free at their website - then that's pretty poor service for 49 Euro, to say the least.
Apart from the wasted 49 Euro, I'm pretty peeved about the Firmware update (or so it seems) wrecking a perfectly working 2008 Macbook. I don't know how to convince Apple of this, but I'm certainly going to try.

    Thanks for the reply.
Re. the Displays setting, the Macbook display isn't recognized and mirroring isn't an available option.
I've scoured the net and the idea of replacing the PRAM battery may be something to try. I read a post by a guy with a Macbook logic board screwed up by a Firmware update, which he solved by replacing the PRAM battery, as when you disconnect it you reset the logic board.
    Which capacitor?
No luck so far with talking to Apple. I will try to get hold of someone a little more tech savvy and/or in a position of authority, as it seems that the Firmware is the culprit. Obviously a million other things could go wrong with a Macbook, but given the timing here it looks like the Firmware. Firmware updates can and occasionally do screw up a computer, as most manufacturers will warn you before you apply the update: PC makers, printer makers, etc. And they probably warn you that it's all your responsibility if anything goes wrong. But re. the Apple Firmware update:
    1) it came thru Software Update
    2) there was no warning
    3) to make things worse, there's no Firmware Restoration image that I can burn to a CD to reflash the logic board: this is the only Apple computer that doesn't have a Firmware Restoration option
I'll try to get thru to a manager and convince him/her that the firmware may have been the cause.
Do you think an authorized Apple tech might have access to some way to do a firmware restoration? Something not avaiable to mere mortals? Because if not, the only solution looks like a new logic board.

  • Cisco Router tried to take a firmware update and no longer works

Ok so internet was working fine until Cisco Connect told me to take an update.  My connection is wired and there were no disruptions during the download.  Yet the download still failed and now my power light blinks continuously and there is no internet access.  I tried instructions on "How to unbrick your Cisco Router", even got them to work, it took the firmware update from the cmd line.  Still doesnt work though.  What's wrong with this thing and how do i fix it?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I ended up downloading a firmware utility program and was able to get it to reload. The power light became solid somewhere between 2-5 mins, however still didnt connect to the internet.  Found that all this factory resetting will change your Internet access name & password, with no way to find out the new one.  You have to remove the Cisco Connect program from your computer and reload it from the original disk.  Only then will you be up and running again.  While I appreciate the response Helm, I was way beyond a 30 second reset button solution when I posted this lol.

  • Latest firmware update killed my network, HELP!

so.. I updated the firmware about a month ago when it was first available.. My device is completely stock and i'm not really ready to root nor factory reset it. I reset it before due to an error on the backup assistant screwing with my external sd card (the real issue was the copy and paste error some devices were faced with). I've been through about 4, 32gb externals and the latest sandisk just sent me.. is bad too. :/
But, that's not the issue i'm getting at. Since the lastest firmware update with caller ID, etc.. I've had little to no signal, dropped messages in my house, completely dropped 4G LTE while using GPS.. horrible due to some areas I was in.. slow or lagged device to the point where i've had to restart my device 3-4 times each day in the last week...
Can someone either tell me if there is a quick solution to this or what the next step should be in this process. because this whole "we've retracted the update but are looking into a fix" ** isn't very settling. Since, on Verizon's time.. I'm afraid the next update won't come for a few months..

I am having the same issues described by everyone else (dropped 4G, worse signal, etc.) after the update to MD3.
My wife's phone is identical but without the update and it works fine (like mine did before the update)
WHAT is the resolution to this issue, Verizon? I really don't believe I should have to go down the root-my-phone route and find third party sources to fix this issue. Why can't you just push the old firmware back to my phone?
I am quite disappointed that what was my best smartphone experience to date has been ruined.

  • Firmware Updates in North America (NAM devices) - ...

After reading the UK campaign for equality post - I thought I'd start one for us North American folks.
As a loyal (but now beginning to waver) owner of Nokia devices since 1998.. it's always been a sad state of affairs in terms of upgrades, and getting new devices, especially compared to the rest of the world, PERIOD.
While I realize that our phones may require a slightly different chipset because of the odd ball frequencies that our areas use - there is no sane or logical reason why we get shafted on model firmware updates otherwise.  While I do not have a hardware engineering degree - I cannot see why the primary functions of firmware updates cannot be easily ported over to the NAM versons of Nokia phones.
While a lot of you out there have valid complaints (like the UK) in release time - and do eventually get them.  We in the NAM market have been consistently.. well, screwed, is the only way that I can think of it.  I have consistently made it a point to buy Unlocked and unbranded devices DIRECTLY from Nokia USA so that I can have flexibility and know that I will eventyally, hopefully, get some sort of update.
With all the new N and E series devices that I have owned - N95-3, N85-3, E75-2, E65, N79 come to mind - we have been consistently, and systematically been delayed as candidates for firmware releases.  Example: N95-3 - The was launched as a FLAGSHIP device.  All OTHER versions of the N95 got and received a v30 upgrade - the n95-3 didn't even get it as a possibility until almost 7 months later!!! E75 - a lot of you got the v200 upgrade and things work perfectly - I should know - I have a friend who has a E75-1 handset, and we compare notes and see how sad and slow my device is! We're still on v110!  N85 - the same way, MONTHS later.  It goes on and on.
I mean, if you're NOT going to support a device - that's fine - just TELL us upfront.  Don't tease us with versions of firmware for other practically identical devices - and then have your North American support counter parts completely clueless as to any news whatsoever.  If you're not going to support the product with firmware updates - just tell me, and I'll make my decisions to purchase, or not, accordingly. At least with other mobile manufacturers - I know there is a set steady time frame of support and so on.
What's even worse than the tease with the other versions of firmware, is the NokiaUSA site itself.  You go there, and you see that OH - hey! There's apparently a new version of firmware available for my device on the 'pretty' pages that allow you to select your device.  *BUT* whenever you type in a NAM device code on the actual check page - it's never  available at the same time as the rest of the family of devices.  Heck, we're lucky if we are only 1 revision behind for most, if not all, devices!  If you're not going to give us the updates - then make sure your localized website doesn't even mention it! This false hope is  the worst wound of all!
And yes, I do realize that Nokia does not have the market share in the NAM market as it would like - but helping us 1st adopters to have wonderful working devices is probably your best form of advertising to people who've never even seen the devices before! I don't know how many of my friends and colleagues have bought Nokia devices because they see how well they CAN work as compared to what they are used to! You want market share? well, help us, to help you!
North American users please chime in and add kudos to this if you feel the same way!

    Nokia Senior Managers,
I want to help you.  So do all the other customers on this site.  The 5800 is the best phone on the market, but it needs the updated firmware (v.4) in NAM as soon as poosible.
Other suggestions (places you are doing well and need help).
Doing well - maps (on-device with GPS is much much better solution than wireless network based only - MARKET this fact, where is the advertising??) and push e-mail.  You should make the push e-mail free for life on your smartphones, like you did with maps (then market along with free mapping).  This would eliminate Android and Blackberry given the technology and price point.
Need more work - ease of set-up, user interface, music, and apps.  All of these need to be improved to take on Apple.  It took two full days to set up my phone (before installing music).  That is way too long.  Everything is convoluted, like it was developed on Mars.  This could be one CD that comes with the phone and make everthing easy, or just pre-loaded so you can turn-on and go.  The touch screen user interface is ok, but could be much better (more homescreen choices, etc.)  Regarding music, don't try to sell, just make a simple pass-through that works well, leave selling (or sharing) music to others.  (maybe buy MediaMonkey and incorporate to have a good universal music management program)  Regarding apps, this is moving in the right direction, but you need to do more.  More apps, make them free, and partner like crazy with media companies, U.S. universities (who are developing for all other smartphones except Nokia through Blackboard, etc.), and any other company/organization that has a cool app.  This is the sizzle, which in the U.S. sells more than the steak.
Good luck and let us know if we can be of assistance.
    Loyal Nokia 5800 User

  • Error while downloading iphone firmware update (error code -3254)

    Hey guys,
I am using the German versions of iTunes and the iPhone. When I connect the iPhone to my machine, iTunes starts up and proceeds to inform me that a new firmware update is available. After the license agreement is confirmed, nothing seems to happen for a few sceonds. Then, an error message pops up which tells me that "an unknown error has occured". The error code is -3254.
I searched Google and these forums for variations of this problem, but couldn't find anything suitable. The error code is not mentioned anywhere.
My iTunes version is 7.6.1.9 (running on Windows XP)
My iPhone has firmware version 1.1.3 (failed while upgrading to version 1.1.4)
I found out that similar errors can be caused by firewall misconfigurations, but the built-in iTunes diagnosis tool didn't report any connection problems (I also temporarily opened all of my router UDP ports, didn't help at all).
    Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having the same problem. The download finishes and then it says an unknown error occurred. It says it has something to do with my network connection, but I don't think that's the problem.
Did you find a solution yet?
I tried to reinstall iTunes but it didn't work.

  • N73: restore doesn't work after firmware update

    Hello!
I just made a firmware update to my N73 with NSU, and the procedure completed with no errors.
Just before the update I made a backup with the application in the phone menu; the app wrote a backup.arc file in the MMC.
After the update I tried to restore the backup via the same app.
Here's the problem: the app seems to work (but the "restore" lasts just 1-2 seconds), the phone reboots, but nothing is restored.
Googleing aroung I found a solution: buy the Noki 1.7 software, extract SMS, contacts and files from the backup.arc, and put everything back on the phone...
Is there another solution that doesn't involve buying this 3rd party software?
    TIA

    The phone is working well...
I have been searching in internet, and there'a a lot of people with the same problem. Everybody tells to use PC Suite to backup... if I only knew before.

  • Motion crashes - Macbook Pro Software update and Firmware update

Anyone out there that is working with Motion 3.0.1 on one of the new Macbook Pros (Santa Rosa) and has installed both the Macbook Pro Software Update 1.0 and the EFI Firmware update (for the 15 inch models)???
Motion 3 crashes on the Macbook Pros with the MBP Software update installed (see thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1028746&tstart=45
The solution so far is to wipe the hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch EXCEPT the software update 1.0. However, I'm trying to find out if anyone has installed the Firmware update, which requires the software update to be installed first, and if they are running smoothly.
    ???

I just restarted then tried to open InDesign again and it let me download a java update that seems to have fixed it.

  • HP LaserJet 1518ni - Firmware update doesn't do anything

    Hello folks
I am trying to update my HP LaserJet 1518ni to the latest Firmware (2013-11-08 , Version20130923, 4.22M).
My current firmware datecode is: 20120110
    I went here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3422472
    Downloaded the file CP1510_Series_FW_Update-20130923.exe
Turned Firewall and AntVirus OFF, ran the Executable with administrative priviliges - it says it found the printer and I see a progress bar and also the smiley at the end. But the printer is unimpressed and shows just "Ready" in the LCD, nothing changed: The files does simply nothing.
Tried it via IP Port and also USB on another PC, same effect.
    What is going wrong?
Where are the good old .RFU Files I just can TFTP to the printer...?
    Thanks,
    Thomas

Hello @TomPe , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you're experiencing firmware issues. I'd like to help!
I would recommend performing a power reset on the printer.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would then suggest downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
Once you have run the doctor, try installing the firmware via this tool:
HP Color LaserJet Printer Firmware Update Utility
Also, can you print standalone?  I would recommend pressing the right arrow until you see reports, press OK, select diagnostics page, and press OK.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Hp Laserjet CP3525 Firmware update failure

I was trying to update the firmware on an HP color Laserjet CP3525 using a USB  connection using the instructions that were posted on the HP website for the Firmware upgrade.  It looked like everything was going well, but when the printer rebooted it never gets past the 6/6 screen on the LED screen.  I have left the printer in this condtion for several hours and it never gets past this area. I'm assuming that the Firmware upgrade caused the printer to do a hard crash and is not recoverable, but I'm hoping that someone might be able to help get this back up and working.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    This question was solved.

Well, in general if the firmware update was interrupted for any reason it would lead to this. This could be caused on the computer side (restarting/logging out/ending the process before it is complete) or in the cord that you are connected with if it is damaged in any way or not properly secured in the USB ports.  I am sorry that you are in this situation, I understand that in a situation with limited spending caps you would have legitimate concerns about updating your other machines.
If you have any further questions or issues myself or one of my colleagues are on this forum almost 24/7.
I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week, Bob!

  • HP LaserJet P1102 firmware update freezes

HP LaserJet P1102w setup will not allow me to get the firmware update because it says I must complete all print jobs first. Only print job is the Test Page, which never printed at the end of the registration/install process.

    Hey @jmg616,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're having an issue running a firmware update to your HP Laserjet Pro P1102w. I would like to assist you with resolving this issue. However, I do have a few questions for your first before I can offer accurate support.
What Operating System are you using with your printer?
    What's my OS?
Is you printer connected through USB cable or Networked?
If you have a print job in your print queue, like your test page that failed to print after you ran the installation of your printer, than a firmware update won't go through. A firmware update is sent to the printer like a print job so you need to make sure that the queue is empty.
If you're using a Windows Operating System can I have you run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool? This tool will 'fix printing' issues for you and should it detect any driver or software conflicts it will identify and let you know what the issue is. The tool will also attempt to fix the issue for you.
    HP Print and Scan Doctor
Please let me know if the Print and Scan Doctor resolved your issue. Should you still be having problems than please respond with your Operating System and how your product is connected. Good luck!
