Firmware update through Software Update

Hey guys, I have a Mac Pro with RAID setup, and as such I can't install the firmware update unless I load it onto an external device. What I'm wanting to know is where the Firmware Update file is located so I can move it, and stop the dialog box popping up whenever someone logs in. There are multiple users on the machine and I don't want them screwing around with firmware stuff!
Cheers

Hi,
usually Firmware updaters are apps placed inside /Applications/Utilities and are called something like "MacBook Pro EFI-Firmware-Update.app".

  • Trying to install updates through software update and it downloads and tries to install then quits with and error

I am trying to install the updates from software updates.
It downloads and attempts to install but then gives and error saying nothing was installed.
What could be causing this problem.
The updates are for Itunes and a Digital Camera Raw Compatibility update.

Thanks for the help... Here is what I found on the log.
    Hopefully I did this right

  • N900 says to update through software updater on PC

My N900 is telling me to update through the PC and not over the air.  But when I go to the Nokia USA website the device is not updateable.  Is anyone else having this problem?

if you did not do the minor update (that cleaned up root) you will be forced to do an update via NSU and not OTA.
Nokia site has nothing to do with this...  1) backup phone to MMC 2)plug into pc in PC suite mode and start software updater.
    Good Luck
If this solves the problem mark post as solved.

  • Getting Final Cut Express 4.0.1 update through Software Update

I just bought and installed the Academic version of Final Cut Express 4.0. As per the System Requirements on Apple's FCE website, I meet the current requirements of Mac OSX 10.4.10 or higher (10.4.10) and QuickTime V7.2 or higher (7.5.5). However, the version 4.0.1 update does not show up in Software Update; but I did get a PluginManager update. How can I get the bug fixes, etc. as I've read there is not a separate update download available?

The 4.0.1 update may not available to you because it does not add any functionality that is available to your computer. It adds AVCHD formats which are only available on Intel machines. At least that's what I surmise. The newer AVCHD formats may require a newer version of QuickTime which is only available with 10.4.11 or Leopard. There may be other reasons the update is not appearing on your computer including but not limited to the naming of the software, its position in the Applications folder, the presences of receipts in the correct folders, permissions settings on your disk, and other factors.

  • Just installed the new Brother printer updates through software update

Now both of my printers say:
"You need to install software to use this printer. To install the software, choose Software Update from the Apple menu. If the software for your printer isn’t available in Software Update, contact the manufacturer of your printer."
Tried rebooting and re-running software update. Everything is up to date but no change. Still no printing.

Dinking around with it for an hour, I came up with another solution also. Go to System Preferences>Print & Scan click the Options & Supplies button, click the Driver tab at the top, and reselect the correct driver for the printer.
It looks like the generic CUPS driver has been replaced by drivers called "Brother mmmmmm CUPS" where mmmmmm is the printer model, like MFC-7820N. Automatic software updates are not always automatic I guess.

  • HT204266 do I need to update drivers on my mac pro, or is this done through software updates

do I need to update drivers or is this done through software updates

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
For drivers for your hardware (printers, AirPort cards, GPUs...), they are done through Software Update, so open it and check if you have updates. If so, install them.
However, note that third-party peripherals (external drives, routers...) may not be updated through Software Update. In this case, you should contact with the manufacturer in order to get the latest drivers for these devices

  • My Macbook Pro - will not update the software update - it freezes

when prompted to update the software - currently I am on ver 10.5.5 - it asks to restart the computer and install - I continue then the screen freezes and the installation bar has hardly moved - I have no way of shutting the computer down - I have to take out the battery to get it to start again - Can someone help

Rather than update through Software Update (which in your case will run the incremental 10.5.6 updater) download the 10.5.6 combo updater from Apple web site and use that. Repair Permissions before and after.

I'm trying to update to IOS6 on my New Ipad through software update under settings, over Wi-Fi ....It keeps telling me that IOS is still up to date.....? Any advice?

Maybe you have a beta version of iOS6 in your Ipad. if is this, you have to put the ipad in recovery mode in itunes and then the update will start.
To put the ipad in recovery mode, you have to turn of the ipad. In your pc/mac Itunes has to be running, and plug the cord, but when you do that you have to press the home button until a message shows up in itunes!!

  • Trying to buy Imovie form App store and have the message: These apps cannot be accepted on this computer.     Future updates of these apps can be found through Software Update. How to solve it?

I have a MBP form July 2011, upgraded to Lion 10.7.4. Last week I had to restore the OS.
I also bought some time ago Iphoto.
Today I wanted to install Imovie from App Store. Instead of the Buy bottom I found an Accept bottom and when I tryed to install I had the message:
These apps cannot be accepted on this computer.
Future updates of these apps can be found through Software Update.
I looked for a solution and found a lot of questions about this error but not real answers to fix it.
Can you please let me know hoe to fix?

Your Mac should have had all three of the iLife apps pre-bundled with it; iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand. If your Mac came with Mac OS X Snow Leopard installed, then the apps should be on the Install DVD that came with your Mac, perhaps in a folder on the disc labeled bundled apps. After installing them, these apps would not be updated through the Mac App Store, but with Software Update.

  • Why does the software update say that drivers for my printers are not available? I have the drivers installed from the CD but can't add the printer because it wants to go through software update.

I have the latest operating system, but can't get my printers added. Why does the software update say that drivers for my printers are not available? I have the drivers installed from the CD but can't add the printer because it wants to go through software update.

It's pretty difficult to offer suggestions when you say nothing about your Mac, the version of Mac OS it's running, or the models of printers you have. This forum, however, is intended for questions about old, pre-G3 hardware, so unless you are asking about an very old Mac, this is not the forum where you'll be most likely to get help with your problem. I'd suggest you ask this question in the forum for your model of Mac or version of Mac OS X it's running. You'll be more likely to get assistance there, assuming you provide sufficient detail for anyone to make a diagnosis of the problem.
    Regards.

  • Can't print since last epson driver update from Software Update

I have a Epson Workforce 600 connected wirelessly which was working just fine until I installed the driver update yesterday which was provided via Software Update. Now, I can print a test page via the Epson Software and my computer can see the printer but when I hit the "print" button on print dialogs, nothing happens. It's very strange, it seems as if the click isn't even recognized.
I've tried printing from multiple programs and it's all the same. Only printing a test page from the Epson software works at this point. Any suggestions?

The probable cause of this is that the /Library/Caches/Epson folder is missing.
There are several threads here about this issue with Epson printers: try deleting the <hard drive>/Library/Printers/EPSON folder and then reinstalling the software through Software Update or from the Apple download site. After installing the software, restart, delete and re-add the printer. That should recreate the /Library/Caches/Epson folder, and you should be able to print.
    hope this helps.

  • No 10.4.7 update via Software Update nor manually for MBP

Via Software Update, I have applied the 10.4.7 update to a variety of machines, but, for some reason I have yet to determine, my MBP will a) not "find" the updated via Software Update to date and b) upon downloading both the intel Combo and Delta updaters manually, the installer returns this error:
"You cannot install Mac OSX Update Combined (Intel) on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
I have rebooted, cleared caches, repaired permissions, ran DFA, etc. I removed some items from the Login Items area of my account in the Accounts pref pane. I have removed a launchd User Agent I created with Lingon. Each subsequent attempt check to Software Update says, "no new software" and each attempt to install manually results in the aforementioned error.
On this particular MBP, I have 2 partitions; my primary, large, daily use partition and a smaller, "rescue" partition with a functional OS on it. Running the manual installer allows me to select (and, sucessfully update) the "rescue" partition (which I did do). I booted from the "rescue" partition and, when selecting my primary partition during a manual update via the Combo or Delta installers, get the same error as mentioned earlier. So, booting from an entirely different "drive", I get the same error.
I also downloaded the combo version of the 10.4.6 installer thinking I may have a busted component somewhere preventing the recognition of this laptop as an elligible candidate for 10.4.7. It returns the same, exact error I get trying to manually apply the 10.4.7 Combo/Delta updates.
During my installation attempts, the drive has had upwards of 14GB free. I did apply the MBP 15" firmware update that was released a while back.
The Quicktime 7.1.2 update was recognized as available via Software Update and I installed it with no problems.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mike
MacBook Pro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Core Duo 2.0GHz/2GB

I eventually did an archive and install to get 10.4.7 installed on my MBP the last time around. Now 10.4.8 is doing the same thing. Neither via Software Update nor manual downloads of Intel delta or combo updaters will apply. Arg!
Has anyone else seeen this? I've tried applying the update while booted regularly and also in safe boot to no avail.
    Mike
