Firmware update worg product code

Hi,
I bought my phone in the uk and wanted to get portuguese language. I changed product code and upgraded to 07.40.1.2. Thing is I got wrong product number for PT language I my keyboard mapping is german (I think). Can I reflash 07.40.1.2 with different product number? I don't think this is downgrade. Is this ok? Will it damage the phone? Because the phone with mismatching keyboard mapping is quit annoying to use.
Thanks.

hi there it is generally not accepted to discuss changing product codes here...
If you need to re-map the keyboard I would suggest you visit a Nokia Care point and ask them to assist you to avoid breaking your phone.

• E71 - No firmware updates for product code 0569116...

I'v had an E71 for three months already. In this time two firmware updates have been released for the E71 (in general) but not for my specific product code. It cannot be a regional thing as other E71's in same region as me have gotten the most recent updates.
Also, network operator says it is not with them but that firmware needs to be released by Nokia.
This makes me very unhappy. Had the N73 before and frequently got the firmware updates.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Thanks Mbamg
Thats how I understand the process to work as well, but it seems this is not the view of the operator (Vodacom, btw also South African)
According to this post in another forum http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=153716&page=3
Vodacom phones are not being updated but MTN phones are, though from what is written, it seems that Nokia themselves are unsure, first stating the firmware is only for european models, though unable to comment on why other South African model (MTN ones) are in fact being updated. At the very least, it seems that there is no version for Vodacom to test/release yet.

• Why no new firmware for E71 (product code:0569371)

Now, normally I would not care but over the last couple of months everyone keeps blogging about the new firmware for their E71.
I have paid a full price for mine in the US (Newegg) so that I would not be constrained by some provider limitations.
Well, now I find out that everyone else in the world, including the US, but that one product code (0569371) has received their updates, some even two and I am still stuck on the original 1.0 release.
Can anyone one over there at Nokia explains this to me like a 4-year-old, why does Nokia punishes owners of this particular product?

Having exchanged a few polite emails with NA Nokia devission I got this today:
"Nokia is consistently working to improve our product services and realizes the software update is important to you. I regret to inform you, that I do not have a release date for the firmware update to your Nokia E71 device. Please continue to monitor the Nokia Software Updater (NSU) for updates for your device. "
So, I have decided to go on a mission to provide potential North America buyers of the Nokia phones sold in US about the support they can expect. Do I think this will help? I doubt it, but what else can I do? Class action suite?

I have an E51 with the product code: 0557937.

• N97 FW Update Product Code 0585162

What is going on??
I have an unbranded N97 RM-505 Product Code 0585162 bought DIRECT from this NOKIA website but yet the SW update is NOT available???
If you found this post helpful, please click the green KUDOS star on the left
N70 -> N76 -> N79 -> N95 -> N95 8GB -> N97 RM-505 SW v20.0.019

updating to new firmware depends on product code which represents your region of purchasing, language pack and if it's branded or not .... so NOKIA releases firmwares and release it for every product code depending on mentioned points
if ur product code hasn't the v.21 update, that means that nokia didn't release it for your product code yet or your phone is branded with an operator and that means that you should go to the operator care center

• Nokia N95 8gb latest firmware update 21/02/13

Hi, I have had a problem whilst updating my N95 8gb and now it appears, I think, that the  firmware version I have is an older one than I had previously, but there isn't anything newer showing as availaable. I have 35,0.001. I am sure that the last time I had a problem, after it was "flashed", the firmware I had installed by the shop was this and then when I got home and went to restore my files, there was a new update available on line. The rreason I say this is that the icons and colours etc are like the version installed by the shop, about 1 year ago and when I updated the software everything was different. If what I am saying is correct, does anyone know if this newer firmware update has now been withdrawn or can anyone throw any light on the subject as I am a little confused! Thanks

If your N95 8GB is RM-320 the last available firmware for all product codes is v35.0.001. Using restore via Nokia Suite can only reset your individual personalisation settings.
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0

• N96 Firmware update

I am aware that a new firmware has been released by Nokia for the N96. However i am not able to get hold of it yet. I have a UK Vodafone phone & contract.
1.Can you advise how i can install this new firmware?
2. Will it address the various problems such as:
a) software crashes and freezing,
b) phone reboots itself for no reason,
c) GPS location is not always possible, but when i use google maps on the phone my location is found
d) Music player will cause the phone to shutdown if you use it for more than 60minutes
e) battery feels warm when several applications are running or you are doing anything continuously for more than 15 minutes
3) is it possible i can download the firmware via your website and install it myself?
4) will i need to unlock the phone to get the update now?
I have had the N95, N95 8GB and now N96 phones. Sadly they all failed to live up to the hype of matching the power of the IPhone, which i am reluctant to buy. If i cant get hold of the firmware and i still have the software glitches then i may be forced to become another Apple IPhone fan.
Like most people here we just want a good phone that can do all that you claim it can do.

hi there Smurph, read this informative article written by one of our senior users Grischnon: http://linux.sgms-centre.com/nokiafaq/branded-phones/ i'm afraid what Post007 was trying to say always comes out rather muddled, so i will explain it in short for you.
Nokia provides the firmware to Vodafone and other operators usually before the generic firmware (or what others call de-branded; unbranded) is released via NSU or FOTA by Nokia. it is then up to Vodafone to modify the firmware to their tastes, or if they don't wish to then they won't. if the firmware is modified by Vodafone it becomes branded firmware and is given back to Nokia who will then distribute it through NSU or FOTA for the specific product codes for that firmware (i.e. product codes will be for the Vodafone variants of the N96). this is why Vodafone tell you to go to the Nokia website to update your phone, no operators actually handle the update processes themselves. another reason they tell you this is to divert the blame to Nokia, and Vodafone not accept resposibility for the laziness/poor attitude taken by their programmers to put out updated firmware for their phones. or excuses for why they firmware is so crippling. so in essence, they're not really being truthful, yes. it's not really Nokia's fault in this case, its often Vodafone's.
i'm unsure if you can get out of your contract as Vodafone probably has all the jargon to cover themselves for their inadequacies. by preying on the customers lack of knowledge, they suck more unsuspecting customers in to make more money. this should answer your question pretty well.
please throw some kudos our way, it would mean a lot to us
If you found this or someone's comments helpful or like what that person has to say, please give some Kudos to their post!

• Still no firmware update for PC 0573802 on N96!!!

I have had this phone for over a month and up till now there is no sign that Nokia have released a firmware upadate for product code 0573802. It is really odd that everyone has had a chance to update their firmware and I did not!! Is this product code wrong or Nokia forgot about it!!???
Solved!
Go to Solution.

The truth is the product code 0573802 is Euro 1 Line 2 specific. It is sold by the CPW on Orange but it is not SP-locked. The trouble is that the genius at Nokia released the N96 on 100's of products code and seems that they totally lost the plot to keep track of it all. On the top the FOTA and NSU issue. Why would anyone need two methods of FW update. Unless you are very technical you will have to wait endlessly for Nokia to sort it out. I waited for 6 weeks and found another way to get the V11.101 but when I mentioned slightly how it is done the moderators removed my post. First they launched the N96 before even it is market worthy then they deprive the customers by not letting them to update. No wonder their share prices and quarterly profits are going downhill. I was a Nokia user for many years but now there are much better handsets out their and they dont cost you a fortune. I went through two n96 replacements and even had the 11.101 on one still it had its flaws. The N96 is rubbish and it is worthless. Someone from the Nokia might argue OW.
I am stuck with my 18 months contract with Orange but got myself a BB Storm. It is not perfect but million times better than the N96.

• New firmware for E61, Product ID 0531059?

Hello,
does the NSU just not find the new firmware or is it not released yet? At least a search for that number did not show me any results.
Thank you!

Code 0531059 = Vodafone D2.
No new firmware for this product code yet.

• Product Code - Adobe Reader 10 vs 10.0.1

Hi,
We have a deployment solution (and are according licensing) for pushing updates of certain applications, including Adobe Reader to our desktop farm. This solution uses product codes to identify changes between the currently installed version and new versions being shipped.
This has worked pretty well in the past, but it seems like the product code for Reader X and Reader 10.0.1 are the same. Based on the Microsoft guide lines for Product Codes, it seems like a point release with significant security updates should qualify for a new product code. Is this us doing it wrong, or was there a deliberate decision to not update the product code for this release?

The difference in file size does not matter much. That might be different becuase they are two different deliverables.
As far as understanding which version is installed , I think you can try out following :
1.  There is a KB article by Adobe on this , see if it help you :  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83709/attachments/Acrobat_Enterprise_Administration.pdf
2.  You can also see "Version" /"Display Version" entry in  [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{AC76BA86-1033-F4 00-7760-000000000005  or the product code for Reader}].
Version Entry reads : a000001 which stands for 10.0.1 in decimal and display version directly reads 10.0.1.
Seems to be reliable to me.

• Firmware updates unavailable for most product code...

Hi,
it's over a month now that Nokia has released the latest 40.x.x firmware for its 5800 model, or should I say to a small, privilleged amount of customers? I have purchased a Nokia 5800 via Amazon.de, totally unbranded, product code is 0578314, and up to now, the new firmware is unavailable. Why does it take so long for the firmware to become available at least for the unbranded country versions? Technically, there seems to be no problem at all, since many users simply change their product code and install the new firmware, but I am asking here for an official way to get the new firmware in time. The massive delay in firmware updates for different product codes is simply a pain for us paying customers who want the latest features available.
Actually, Nokia already is using a similar system. If your phone is unbranded, you still have to consider if its a Regional or Country Variant (similar to the SE phones, and the China versions I stated above). There are basically two types of unbranded handsets: regional generic and country variants.
This fact is not clearly obvious when you buy a phone, so how does a customer know if he gets a CV (copuntry variant) or any other type of phone before buying? When I bought my unbranded 5800XM, I was still thinking that I get a perfect, free phone, and that firmwareupdates can be applied when available. It was absolutely not apparent to me that I would have to wait three months or so, before I can upgrade my phone to a new firmware, once it becomes available

• N96 firmware update - product code starting 057

I've recently bought an unbranded, sim-free n96. The product code is 0573063. I've tried for weeks to try and update the firmware in the hope that this will solve some of the speed issues I am experiencing. I understand that network branded phones need to wait for the network to approve the firmware but why can't I update my phone? I've tried both NSU and FOTA and neither work.
Can anyone please help?
Details
Product code : 0573063
Firmware : 10.065
Type RM-247
Cheers

I too have the same prob. Bought an Unbranded Factory unlocked N96 and up till just now I have not yet received any update. Am trying twice a day to see what happens, but nothing happens.
When will we receive the update, our phone is like others!!!
