Firmware updatea question

I know I need to run the firmware update on my iMac before I upgrade from OS 8.6 to OS X, but was wondering what happens if I run the update, but then don't upgrade for several days/weeks. Anything bad?

its fine. The firmware update actually wasn't created just for OS X, OS X simply requires it. its a recommended upgrade even if you don't upgrade to OS X.

  • Satelite C660 - HDD firmware update question

    I have Satelite C660 with hdd: MK3275GSX, firmware: v.GT001M. On other website support site I found firmware update to v.GT002D ( [link|http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/mw/en/mwdhs1/DriverDetails/Product/latitude-e6330?driverId=FP21C&fileId=3126089791&osCode=W732 &languageCode=en] ).
    Can I use this update?

    Thank's for your reply!
I never update firmware of hdd or any other PC component, except BIOS too.
Must say that when I asked this question, I did not check which version of firmware exactly I have.
I know that this is GT001, but last letter I do not remember.
I checked it yestarday and was letter 'M' -> GT001M! My current version is GT001M, update is only for GT001D or GS001D.
    So this question is removed.

  • N80 firmware update question...

I think I have read this in other posts but am unsure how valid it is...
I have several N80 handsets 2 of which were Vodafone UK but have subsequently been unlocked by Vodafone.
The firmware versions are both v4.0623.0.41
    26/02/06
    RM- 92
    NOKIA N80 (42.03)
IF I take these to have their firmware updates done, does that then mean that they will revert back to being locked to the Vodafone network or does it stand that once a handset is unlock/network free that it remains as such?

    hi jg01
    There are two issues here:
Firstly once unlocked a BB5 remains unlocked.
Secondly because they have a "Vodaphone" product code (label under battery) if you use Nokia Software Updater it will check which is the latest Vodaphone release software for your phone (not the latest generic software)
Nokia Service Centres used to be happy to upgrade with latest generic (non-operator branded) software, but I am not sure whether they have tightened up procedures now and insist on like for like software. I am sure somebody else will give you the definitive answer!

  • Firmware update question

Does anyone know if it is only possible to update the firmware on macbooks from within the OS? or is there some kind of audit mode as there is with winxp?
Reason I'm asking is that when the HDD is changed we are currently having to reinstall the OS, set it up, and then update the firmware. But we are wanting to leave the unit with no user account setup, as it is when you first install OSX.
Does anyone know of a way of doing this at all?
    Cheers

    Hi Chris,
    Welcome to apple forum.
Honestly I have no idea how to update firmware like in dos mode on PC for this macbook and you cannot go to software updater until you set up a user or admin.
maybe this verbose start up might work:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106388
But since the firmware updater is permanent, maybe you can install the os X, create a user, update the firmware until it is done and wipe the HD and reinstall the os x until "no user set up" step as you want.
And the user will get up to date firmware and user setup login when they turn it on for the "first" time.
    Good Luck.

  • IPods and firmware update question

    It happened.
I wait, wait, wait and finally buy an 80gb for $350 and a month later 160gb for less comes out!
The only new feature I like is the album cover browse...text listing doesn't mean anything to me for over half my collection - I KNOW my album covers though.
Is there any plans for a firmware update that will bring my 80gb iPod the ability to operate similar to the new releases of today? I'd like the album browse feature on my 80gb...

If it wasn't so difficult and hidden to find out how to contact them directly, I would. Thanks for your answer! I hope it's wrong though...
To your knowledge, have they ever had firmware updates for any product?
Also, to your knowledge, do Apple reps browse these discussion forums? Maybe someone will accuratley respond.

  • IPod Touch firmware update question

I have a first generation iPod touch. I finally purchased the 3.1.1 firmware update, and it's downloading now. When I made the purchase, a warning flashed, telling me that when I update the iPod, all of the data on it will be lost. It said that if I wished to keep my music etc., I should make sure it's connected to the computer I usually sync it with.
Now, I suspect that it's just going to update the iPod's firmware, then sync it with my current iTunes library. The thing is, only about half of the music that's on this iPod is on this computer's hard drive. I don't wish to lose the other half.
So, does anyone have any experience with this? If iTunes will back up the data on my iPod, and then restore it once it's done updating, that would be fine, but that doesn't seem like the sort of thing that would happen...
Should I just download copytoy and backup all the songs, then restore them after the update? Thanks.

Thanks for the response. I now have a slightly more serious problem, though, which I doubt can be helped, but I figure I may as well ask anyway. Here goes:
I was looking for a program to extract my music off the ipod to make a backup as you suggest. (Back before I had an iPod touch, I used yamipod, but that doesn't have touch / iPhone support.)
One that looked promising was called Sharepod, so I downloaded it, and launched it. It told me that I shouldn't run both iTunes and sharepod simultaneously, so I closed iTunes. Then it told me that it didn't detect any iPod, so I should re-open iTunes with the iPod connected, then restart Sharepod.
When I opened iTunes back up, it told me that it couldn't read the data on the iPod, and that I should do a factory reset to fix the problem. (This of course will erase the data.)
So now I'm pretty much stuck. I can't get iTunes to read my iPod, and as long as it can't, neither can sharepod. The only way I can get iTunes to see the iPod is to wipe the data, which is what I downloaded sharepod to prevent in the first place. In the meantime, the iPod works just fine, I just can't sync/update it until I wipe it, which I would like to avoid. Do you know of any way I could possibly fix this error without losing my data? I've rebooted both the iPod and the computer, and even re-installed iTunes, but no luck.
    Any help is much appreciated.

So I decided to update my phone's firmware, but I don't have the cable. So here's the question, is it possible to do this via Bluetooth instead of cable?

  • Airport Utility and AEBS DB firmware updates question

I have an AEBS DB2 version set up with a MBP Airport Utility which came from the install cd of the AEBS, which was Airport Utility 5.5 and the AEBS DB2 had firmware 7.5. I did update to 5.5.1 and 7.5.1, respectively and all is fine. However, I have another MBP that is just set up to use the wifi signal. I noticed that it also wanted to pull in the AU 5.5.1 update even thought I never installed the AU from the AEBS cd. I am wondering if 5.5.x, which could only be gotten on the cd, is now just the standard and it doesn't matter. Or, did the other MBP just know it was using a wifi AEBS and thus Apple set it up to find that newer update..after all, It never found a 5.5 before...it was just using whatever upto 10.6.2 had installed.

I noticed that it also wanted to pull in the AU 5.5.1 update even thought I never installed the AU from the AEBS cd. I am wondering if 5.5.x, which could only be gotten on the cd, is now just the standard and it doesn't matter.
Interestingly, when 5.5.1 became available via AU, it also showed up for Macs & PCs via a download from Apple Support - Downloads site as well ... and you're right, v5.5 is only available from the CD.

  • Nokia N80 Firmware Update Question - Looking for F...

    Hi,
I've been looking for the latest Nokie N80 internet edition firmware. I know that the firmware version 5.0719.0.2 has been released but when I try to update my phone using Nokia Software Update program it tells me that my phone has the latest version.
My phone firmware version is V 4.0623.0.42, released 20/09/2006, RM-92, Nokia N80 (85.01). Does anyone know where and how can I update my phone with the latest version? Thanks.

I have an N80 which I was able to update a few months ago to 4.0632.0.38 (Which added all the Internet and Browser updates provided for the N80IE) then when I heard version 5 was out I tried, but no use, and since then it always says I have the latest version.
I bought a SIM Free model from Expansys UK so it's not a operator issue, not sure why it's stuck on version 4. Emailed Nokia Support a few weeks ago but heard nothing back
    My Product Code is: 0535762
    Phone Type: RM-92
    Model: N80-1
Anyone from NSU team able to help out?
    Thanks,

  • Cisco 5508 Firmware update 6.x 7.0.98 Questions

    Hi guys,
Have not done an update on any cisco gear since about 2001
We have a cisco services contract with IBM that supplies us access to the usb drivers, firmwares etc, and we have a Cisco 5508 6.x running ~30 Cisco 1252's, some 1231's and (potentially) some 1262's once the firmware update is done.
    We have a base-count license(permanent) of 50AP's, no expiry
So I guess my questions are:
    1) When flashing the new firmware - do the licenses require any sort of modification, or will they work as per normal
    2) Are any serial numbers or codes required to be entered once the 7.0.98 firmware is installed?
    3) I assume that the old firmware/config becomes 2nd in line to the primary boot option of the firmware during boot process?
    Thanks

    7.0.98.0 is deferred code.

  • Dumb question: Firmware update vs. "power indicator light"

Software Update says I need the EFI Firmware Update 1.3.
    OK.
But the related doc (Article 303364) says about restarting: "Hold down the power button until the the power indicator light flashes, then release it."
Power indicator light? I must have missed that.
So... how long should I hold down the power button? Until I hear the "long tone" that's mentioned? Or what?

Chill out amigo. That is not what the instructions say in the Apple document referred to by the EFI update download page.
iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.3, which refers one to Apple article 303364 About firmware updates for Intel-based Macs, where step 6 states
Hold down the power button until the power indicator light flashes, then release it. A long tone will be heard, then a gray screen with an Apple logo appears. There is a progress bar under the logo. As the progress bar moves, your firmware is being updated.
There may be an error in the way the information was written, but neither the OP nor I, with my ESL, misread the document. I have read a few of your posts lately. They have a snippy know-it-all tone. The Apple Discussions are user to user help. There are no stupid questions here. Calm down and be nice to folks, please.

  • Firmware update and other questions

what would be the reason to update my firmware if I reformat and do a new install of 10.2 or 10.3?
Has anyone purchased from applerescue before?

    exnay:
Here is a list of Available Firmware Updates. Identify your computer in the list and download the software by clicking on the number in the last column.
I have found applerescue to be a reliable and responsive outfit to work with. You can contact them by email with any questions you have and they respond to you in good time. They have about the best prices on the web, and if your disks don't work they will replace them. Their disks are genuine apple disks and you get a single user license. You can also buy like on eBay, but that is riskier, as you can't always be sure what you are getting.
    Good luck.
