Firmware upgrade - improvement?

My Nokia 5140i presently runs on firmware version 03.80. Now there is an upgrade available: v. 03.85
Before upgrading, I would like to know the specific changes &/or improvements offered by the new firmware, but I can not find any sources of information.
Does anyone know where I may obtain useful infromation on Nokia firmware upgrade history and the consequent improvements?
I'd be grateful for some advice.
Thank you.

  • Amazing improvements since firmware upgrade

Hi, I have had a pretty much trouble free (i still have an annoying CPU whine that applestore says is just my young ears being sensitive. Im 20 not stupid!!)
    macbook, week 35.
I updated the firmware and now it runs VERY cool, and the battery life has become amazing!!!
4 hours-4 hours 20 mins, running full brightness and on airport connection.
It used to max out at 2.5 hours..
Also the sound is louder through the speakers.
Also, can I just say WOW I installed windows xp with bootcamp and it is AMAZINGLY fast. I did it for my games,
and the graphics card seems to handle the sims 2 perfectly at high settings.
    It looks great!!
SO in my opinion the firmware upgrade gets the thumbs up!!

Like tcdm said, the timer is based on the rate of drainage at that particular moment. Think of the timer being like the battery indicator of the ipod. On hard drive-based ipods, the battery indicator can tend to make a quick plummet when accessing music or larger files like movies. The battery is basically telling you how much is left based on the rate of power usage at that particular moment, but then when the hard disk stops spinning the indicator jumps back up with just a little taken away. If you see 5 hours at one moment, accessing large files(which kicks the HDD into motion) will suddenly put you at a little less. I set a stop watch on my macbook while it played a movie in MPEG-4 format. after playing movies continuously from full charge to near empty i got about 4 hours (roughly 3:53 by my watch) I count the time from full charge to the moment i get the first battery low warning. after that its just a few minutes before the computer sleeps to decrease the rate of power usage. So far no big changes as far as i can see, I think this firmware update mostly addresses the issue regarding the cooling system readings rather than energy efficiency, but who knows.

  • PETITION: This is what I would like to see in a new firmware upgrade for the MTP ZEN TO

    FIXES:
-Ensures correct playback on the player of Zencast audio content that has been transferred using Zencast organiser. Remaining time is displayed correctly, and rewind / fast-forward functions can be used
    - Allows users to transfer tracks between folders on the player when using a program such as Creative Mediasource [THIS IS NEEDED FOR ALL MTP PLAYERS]
    - Allows charging via USB when the player is not being used by a program or is low on battery [THIS FEATURE SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN REMOVED BY MTP UPGRADE]
ENHANCEMENTS / ADDITIONAL FEAUTRES [I HAVE LISTED THESE BY MY PERSONAL ORDER OF PREFERENCE]:
) Allows the playback of Audible content types ,2,3,4 on the player, via a plug-in in Audible Manager
    2) Adds bookmarking feature to the player
    3) Adds SmartVolume EQ feature to the player
    4) Adds DJ menu to the player
    5) Allows user to partition a section of the player for data transfer
    6) Allows user to synchronise tasks from Outlook to the player
    7) Allows TXT files/ Ebooks to be stored/ viewed on the player
    8) Adds BassBoost EQ feature to the player
PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION TO URGE CREATIVE TO INTRODUCE AT LEAST SOME OF THESE FIXES / FEATURES IN A FIRMWARE UPGRADE FOR THE MTP ZEN TOUCH - also please feel free to add other suggestions that would improve the functionality of the Zen Touch

  • Help..I updated my iphone4 to iOS to 7.1.1 from 6.1.3 at last stage of firmware upgrading throwing an error 16 and stuck in recovery mode.

    HIAll
I waited so long not to update of my iphone4 to 7.x.x because of bugs and not much stable for iPhone4 and many reviews from friends saying phone is very slow and many bugs but after release of iOS 7.1.1 of many improvements for iphone4. I tried to update my iphone4 to 7.1.1 through iTunes at last stage of firmware upgrading its showing an error occurred error (16). I checked in internet error16 is purely hardware issue before my phone is very good condition in iOS6.1.3 no problem with my phone, But after upgrading to how it will be hardware issues. why Apple engineers are not testing properly their software’s before releasing great updates to customers now my phone is out of warranty and I can’t use it anymore just showing iTunes symbol and charger on the screen while on/off showing apple logo. From the past September there is no proper solution for error 16. Don’t know  what these people are doing about that error why apple is crashing customer phones by releasing useless update to phones what is the point of buying such a expensive phones don't know what to do with this phone. Tried many possible ways
Tried: presing home+power button at 95% of  firmware update
              Disconnected battery and restored
              used DrPhone to restart
tried to restore old version 7.x.x
              no luck.
              used new original cables
              restored with Macbook
tried to restore in 3 Different computers and so many times but  no luck

Hi, to get your iPhone  4 back to normal, here're two ways for you.
    1.  Use Dr.Fone for iOS. The free trial version can fix iPhone screen of death. The free trial version can do that, you don't have to pay.
Just download and install this software on your computer and connect your iPhone 4 to computer with a USB cable. When it detects your iPhone 4 is abnormal, click Restart the device to get your iPhone 4 to be normal.
    2. Use iTunes to fix it.
Step 1. Make sure that the latest iTunes is installed on your computer.
Step 2. Plug into a USB cable to connect your iPhone4 to computer.
Step 3. Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time for about 10s.
Step 4. 10 seconds later, release the sleep/wake button. But continue to hold the home button until a message comes out, saying "iTunes has discovered an iPhone 4 in recovery mode, you must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes".
Step 5. Click your iPhone 4 in the left sidebar to show the device control panel on the right. Then, click Summary.
Step 6. Go to Backups section and click Restore Backup.... In the drop-down list, choose a backup file and restore to your iPhone 4

  • My BB 8520 won't connect via USB after the firmware upgrade

    Hi,
All was working fine until I followed the upgrade prompts. The 'phone works but a) it won't accept Opera Mini 5.1 (which was in the 'phone already) and b) I cannot connect to the PC via the USB cord.
    What happened?
This 'phone shares the same SIM card with 3 Nokias (E72, E90, E62) and I've never had firmware upgrade problems with them - in Symbian OS.,
    Any ideas?

EDIT: Link Removed. Please review User Guidelines  under section "No spam please."

    Hi, again -
Just downloaded Bolt and I like it also. (No more zooming: whoopee!)
Never heard of this browser before, having used Opera Mini/Mobile (depending upon the 'phone) since 2004. Was on E-Mails for cell 'phones dating back to 1997, coast to coast: primitive service back then! [Rarely did I use the default browser on any 'phone I've had, including Motorola and Palm before Nokia.]
Bolt loaded faster than Opera Mini 5.1 did on my Nokias and the Blackberry 8520: amazing!
Now my "not as good as a Nokia with Symbian" handset is useful again. The firmware upgrade did improve the videos and the links to them, so it was a GAIN SOME FEATURES and LOSE SOME FEATURES firmware upgrade.
Probably Opera will have a link for the Blackberry 5 platform, eventually. The problem, I think, was that the link only worked with three versions of their 4 edition.
    You have made my day!
    Thanks.
    Regards, Douglas
PS: Not until the Nokia E90 Communicator was off the market for a year or so, did Opera put out a Mobile browser which functioned on it. The Communicator - in a variety of versions - had a 12 year run in Finland, something of a record for handsets in this field. For Word .docs, fast typing and office style activities, it's hard to beat. (You can't wear one in your pocket if the garment is Spandex, of course.) The music on the E90 is loud and good; with the wireless aux. speakers it rivals a portable stereo, so I use it for that purpose much of the time, even when off-line.

  • N73 Firmware upgrade--- bad working Voice dialing

I updated the firmware of my Nokia N73 from 268.0.0.3 to 368.0.0.1. With the older version delivered by the phone voice dialing worked. In the 268.0.0.3 I only could given voice command for the profiles not for the contacts. It didn't recognise any contact. Because of thos I decided to do the next firmware upgrade to 368.0.0.1 and now the voice dialing doesn't work at all. Each time I put the button to activate it tells me "fualty voicesystem"in dutch "fout spraaksysteem. Now it became even worser. Is there anyone who helps me out?
    regards

Thank you for your reaction. I put the firmware for the second time to my phone. Now it seems working again. When I touch the button for voice dialing it works untill then. But I may ask for every contact in my contactlist but nothing happens. When I touch the button again it is not reacting then but only the second time. When i asked for an other profile it sometimes works. In my contactlist it is possible to hear the contactname. But via voice dialing none of the contacts to choose.
    best regards
Voice Dialling seems to be a bit choppy on most of the N-series models, because they use speech synthesis. Whereas this works for profile names, it's a different tackle for contact names. This is because contact names are assigned by assigned by you, the user. If you select Play Voice Tag for any given contact in your phone, it will output this name using speech synthesis. You will have to EXACTLY copy this output. And, if the name of a certain user is "John Doe Geralds", it wouldn't suffice to simply say "John Doe". You'd HAVE to put Geralds behind that, and in the EXACT same way as the device says it.
The only way to change a voice label for any given name is to change the name itself. The same goes for profile names and commands, but I wouldn't change these as the defaults work fine.
A reason because of which voice dialling may not work can also be found in the user's voice details having become useless for the phone. To correct this, go to Tools> Voice commands > Options > Settings and choose: Reset Voice Adaptations. Note that carrying this out means that ALL data collected about your voice shall be lost; you might have a bit of difficulty using voice features the first couple of times after performing this instruction. Beware to EXACTLY copy whatever the phone says, even though you know real-world pronunciation to be different. Until now, I haven't had to actually adjust the pitch of my voice to the synthesizer's pitch, but I know this would improve recognition accuracy.
Oh yeah... Sorry for my late reaction!

  • WRT160Nv2 questions - no firmware upgrades?

I just bought a WRT160Nv2 today, and although setting it up was very easy and quick..there's a couple of things I'm curious about...
    a) When I look for firmware upgrades, it only shows Version 1 and 3...not 2..why is that?? (I have version 2.0.02 build 008 Jul 27, 2008)
    b) Why is there no Wide-40MHz option in the Radio Band even though the 'help' clearly mentions it?? Is this a reason why I don't really notice a big difference in the range improvement over my old router? (Belkin 54g + another Belkin 54g router configured as AP) I have currently set the mode to MIXED, Radio Band to Standard 20MHz, and Standard channel on AUTO.
Will the Wide Channel only apply if I have Wireless-N devices on the network?
    Oh and I have a follow-up 3rd question:
    c) I have a WiFi capable mobile phone (Nokia E65) which has 802.11b capability, and so far I have not been able to get it to work with the new router. I currently have a 11b device (the phone I mentioned), 2-3 11g devices, and I've just bought a Wireless-N adapter (WUSB600N) which I'll be using on a desktop...I'm just wondering what will happen when all three types of devices are going to be used, and if they'll all be able to work together without detriment to another (I guess mainly if the 11b phone will be usable when the N-device is active)
Message Edited by deep_schismic on 05-27-2009 02:20 PM

Yes, your router does not have a Wide-40MHz option in the Radio Band...You should try to change the Standard Channel to 1/9/11 and see the difference, also you can change the Beacon Interval to 75, Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 and RTS Threshold to 2304 under Advanced Wireless Settings to improve wireless range...

I went ahead and updated it anyway. One little thing I noticed was now the volume only goes up to 25 like my Zen Touch instead of 40 or whatever that it did before. Same loudness, different numbers only. Other than that, I have not noticed anything different, but it seemed to work OK scrolling through a song with the old firmware. I did not, obviously, do a detailed comparison.

  • N97 Firmware Upgrades after V20

Are there any chances of a firmware upgrade for N97 after V20 which will further increase the speed. The kinetic scrolling is still not very smooth and sometimes the screen freezes for a second or two. Anyone facing a similar problem ?

Nokia usually continue to update/improve software with anew model at least for 2 or 3 years, don't know what the next one holds, but I believe it is imminant, V2.1 due this month I believe. My phone's worked pretty well since V2.0.

  • Toshiba STOR.E TV+ firmware upgrade

    Hello,
Is there any unofficial firmware upgrade for the STOR.E TV+ product series? I can clearly see that there's no official firmware upgrade...
The one shipping with the product looks like "work in progress" (you can see this throughout the entire user interface, which is clumsy and very "90s", but especially if you access the device using your browser - though this one could be useful if your math is rusty and need a little help to perform basic additions :) ).
Moreover, despite the fact that the product is on the market for over 1 year now, there's no firmware upgrade available (despite the obvious need for one). Sometimes I wonder when would have been the release date if the product's time to market would have been extended in order to have a fully functional product upon the release!
@ Toshiba developers: if you don't bother to release a firmware at least give the code "as is" to the community. This way you will certainly find someone willing to do (out of pure passion) whatever you were supposed to do (for the money you make as developers, part of those we pay for this product as customers).
    Thanks.

    Hi there,
As expected, the software is... archaic!
You can telnet into your box (user: root, no password required) and you'll see the software specs: it is based on BusyBox 1.1.3! There's nothing wrong with BusyBox (a Debian-based Linux distribution, originally intended to run from a single floppy disk, but now able to run to almost anything: phones, routers, NASs...), except for the version: 1.1.3 has been released on May 17, 2006! (Yes, it was already 4 years old when Toshiba decided to put the STOR.E TV+ on the market!).
The newest version is 1.19.3, released on October 29, 2011 (and, if you follow the release notes, there have been some tremendous improvements form 2006 to 2011!).
So.. Toshiba guys, when can we expect an update? (I sure would like to have a proof that you're actually working!)
It is certainly not enough to just throw an update to the CLI-based code; it must be linked to the remote and OSD as well (besides, since Toshiba is not mentioned in the products list on the BusyBox site, I don't expect them to have been used an open code). So just changing the routines, without changing the way they're called for, is useless, and could brick your product.

  • N96 crash during firmware upgrade & unrecoverable

Finally Nokia sent me a text to say that a firmware upgrade - from 10 to 11 was available. I've tried to install it after first backing up the phone. During upgrade where the upgrade software continually referred to connection problems (while the Nokia PC Suit showed the connection to be in place) with about 5 minutes of remaining installation time the installer gave up. It asked me to turn off the phone and reconnect which I did. The installer could not recover the installation. I now have a phone that will turn on but just has a blank screen and PC Suit won't recognise it so I can't restore from the backup.
Any ideas? Does my second N96 have to be sent back to Nokia?
This is all becoming rather silly...

B4 you update I found this improves the way it works
before you connect phone by USB
Plug in charger and leave in (make sure its turned on at the wall socket)
1st switch to line 1 if you have 2 lines
    set profile on genral
    turn off password on boot
    turn OFF pincode request
    turn OFF fixed dial
IF you have Lights ON installed uninstall it (you can put it back after)
if You have any other prog that RUNS all the time Like Lights ON unistall that too. (eg rotate me on N95)
    TURN OFF PHONE
    remove SD card
TURN ON PHONE to get a clean boot with nothing running in background
now make sure you connect in PC suite mode when you plug in USB
run P C suite click on Spanner TOOLS
    go down to software update
NOW WAIT if it says there is a new version or it loads new drivers
there are 5 or 6 cable drivers that it MUST load before it starts it only does that once the 1st time
    Now all will go well
most of the crashes are caused by either a prog running on the phone or the pin or password being set and the phone cant reboot or a flat battery

LaserJet CP1025nw color: was working flawlessly
received email from HP 4/3/2012, recommending firmware upgrade to v 20120130.

    got error: 'update failed'
print queue says 'printing', cp1025nw doesn't respond.

This means: fatal error, per the user manual.
manual instructs to turn off, unplug, plug-in, turn on.  I did this several times.
printer lights still indicate: fatal error.
HP utility says: device status: unknown, service ID: unknown, FW version: unknown, driver version 2.0.20110727
tried to print configuration page: got error 'cannot establish two-way communication with the device'

Since my last post I’ve retried the same troubleshooting described before, this time just from the PC.  The result is still the same.  Lights on the cp1025nw indicate “fatal error”.
Does anyone know how to put this printer into ‘bootcode’ mode?  I’ve read about this in some other posts about HP firmware updates trashing printers.

  • HDMI output not working since firmware upgrade

I would appreciate troubleshooting tips for getting the HDMI output to work. I just tried it recently for the first time in a long while, approximately 4 weeks after doing the firmware update to 2.2. When I did it before, plugging in the HDMI cable would automatically start output to my HD TV. Now that is no longer the case. Changing the HDMI output from "Auto" to "720p" does not make a difference either.
Otherwise, everything works well and I've been satisfied with my Creative 7 to date. I have installed several apps so it could be that there is a conflict and nothing related to the firmware upgrade.
Any troubleshooting suggestions would be appreciated.

Well I've received my refurbished device for about a week now. The HDMI still doesn't work either with Zii Video or a 3rd party app MoboPlayer. ?I am tempted to reinstall the firmware upgrade again. Is it ok to try this or is it only a one time attempt?
Perhaps this should be a separate thread but are any of the "Phone 2 SD" apps compatible with the Ziio 7? Whenever I use the "Move to SD card" option, there is still no program moved to the external SD card. ?I have a Ziio 7 with 6 GB of memory as well as a 6GB micro SD card. ?My memory settings are:
    - SD Card: total space - 5.43GB; Available space - 5.43GB
    - Device media storage: Total space - 2.48GB; Available Space - 2.3 GB
    - System storage: Total Space - .97 GB; Available space - .59GB
In Settings>Applications>Manage Applications, the "On SD Card" tab lists several programs lists several apps but none of them are actually on the external SD card.

I usually have no problems accessing my sky router (white Sky Hub with ADSL) via the page 192.168.0.1 however I tried to login the other day and was greeted with an updated looking summary screen - all very nice I thought, let's go and explore! However when I put in the usual details - username: admin, password: sky I get prompted to input my details again which is very odd. Now I know that I am the only one who accesses the router in this way as my flatmate has never logged in and probably never will so I can only assume the firmware upgrade has caused the password/username to change. I logged in the other week and the password is saved in my browser so I am sure I am not making any mistake here. I have tried in chrome and IE just in case but I have the same issue in both. Has the new firmware brought a new default password? I cannot find any reference to this anywhere on this site so it seems unlikely. I would rather not reset my router to default settings as I have devices with static IP addresses and port forwarding setup that will take me some time to reconfigure. I don't think there is any feature to backup the config unless you are actually logged in to the router but would love to be worng about this. I am guessing I will have to bite the bullet and reset to factory defaults but would welcome any help or suggestions if possible?

After review the events of the morning.....
I normally keep my routers in the basement where my eth jacks all hub.  High on a shelf, I got reasonable coverage on 2.4Ghz even on the second floor.  I went to this router for the Dual mode, but found the 5Ghz didn't make it sufficiently well to the second floor.  So it was moved to the first floor, on a counter.  That morning the router started acting up a bit, not bringing an iphone online.  It was looked at - and a couple of post cards that had been placed on top, removed.  Air flow was not blocked around the sides in any way - just a few pieces of card stock on top to interfere with convection off the top.
    1.  There is no way to look at temperature - maybe the device doesn't even know its own temp.
    2.  There is no fan that I can discern.  Clearly, creating a device that is designed to sit on a flat surface in a home environment ought to take into consideration "normal impediments to air flow".   Temp controlled fans is simple, well proven tech.
    3.  This design is small, has TWO radios, sits horizonal (thus is going to have lousy convection) - seems to me an engineer ought to have given more thought to not only providing the user with easy to obtain data (temp), alternative methods (fan/vertical mounting) and/or self-protection (to hot, I'm shutting down rather than corrupt my database).
Having spent millions on Cisco gear in my career, I would have hoped that Cisco+Linksys would have a little more Cisco and a little less Linksys.
