Firmware upgrade on Zen Sl

I would like to install the new firmware on my Zen Sleek to upgrade to <SPAN>2.0.03.
<SPAN>Unfortunately, both the skinny paper manual, and the more detailed CD-ROM manual don't explain how to do this.
<SPAN>I did try to reset the Sleek by pushing a paperclip into the base and pressing the 'play/pause' button. I never got the option from the player to upgrade the firmware. Instead, it simply went back into the 'now playing mode'. I also downloaded the executable from creative.com that supposedly contained the WMP0 and new Firmware. When I ran this, however, no options appeared to permit a firmware upgrade.
<SPAN>
<SPAN>Thanks in advance.
<SPAN>
<SPAN>Robert

Basically plug in ur MP3 player. Download the firmware off the internet and double click onit with ur mp3player pluged in. Thats all there is to it.
I own Zen Touch 20gig, Sennheiser MX400
OK, thats what I tried the first time.
a) player plugged in;
b) downloading the upgrade from creative, to wit:
Creative Software Suite for PlaysForSure-enabled Creative Zen Sleek Players (43.87 MB) 9 Sep 05
c) clicking on the icon that was placed on my desktop;
d) answering all questions the upgrade wizard asked as 'yes'
I'll try the process one more time, in case I missed something.

  • 2.00.12 Firmware Upgrade for Zen Mi

In trying to upgrade the firmware of my Zen Micro to version 2.00.2 to use PlayForSure / MTP software, I get the following message: "An application is interfering with the flash program. Please close all applications and all Explorer windows before proceeding". I have no applications or Explorer windows open, however. I have tried this on my Windows XP machines at home and at work and get the same error.
Any ideas about how to do the upgrade? I got the Zen Micro specifically for its PlayForSure capabilities. If I can't use it, I am returning it. I will also write a letter to PC Magazine about the problems, despite it getting an Editor's Choice rating.

Starting from scratch... you connect your Micro to the dock, MediaSource starts, you exit MediaSource, presumably the Micro doesn't show as docked, you start the firmware upgrade... correct?
    Correct
Can you then detail the *exact* error you get?
There isn't an error as such, but when the player reboots (which it has to to install the firmware) Mediasource starts again as it thinks the Micro is docked again, when i close it down (Mediasource) it continues to upgrade the firmware until it says "rebooting player" then it does nothing, it doesn't reboot the player it just freezes.
What firmware upgrade are you trying to apply?
    I'm upgrading from .02.05e to 2.0.2.0
    Thanks for the help!

i think that it would be absolutely awesome if us nano/nano plus owners could listen to the suscription service music like Yahoo Music Unlimited and Napster to go. I want creative to come out with a firmware upgrade for the nano to make this possible. If you want this firmware upgrade, please sign.

  • Some WMA/DRM files won't sync after firmware upgrade on Zen Touch

I downloaded an eaudio book from my library, which grants a 2 day license. Prior to upgrading the firmware (to the latest available) on my Zen Touch, I was able to upload this book and play it while walking, etc.
At the same time, I was able to upload several other books I had downloaded and licensed. All are WMA/DRM.
After upgrading the firmware, I was able to resync some of the books I'd downloaded to my Zen Touch. Several, however, yield error messages--no matter how I try to upload them (WMP, Creative MediaSource, Zen Touch Media Explorer). All refuse to let me upload.
These books previously uploaded/played just fine. Note: they still play fine using WMP and Creative's software. But, it's a bit difficult to lug my desktop around when walking/running through the woods.
Any idea what the problem might be? All MediaSource says is:
    <IMG src="http://herb.thetysons.org/images/CMC-error.jpg">
WMP0 tells me that "an unknown error" has occurred. Neither event is significant to make it to the system's application event log.
Any ideas on why these files--which could be tranferred before--can't be transferred now? The licenses are still valid, and the file format is identical to those that transferred without incident.

OK, my update. After reading the recent responses (thanks!), I performed the following experiments.
    1) Reverted to the original v2.0 via factory restore, relinked to the Mac. ATV immediately copied over my entire library (one movie, lots of music) from the Mac, because I have iTunes checked marked for Automatic Sync ("iTunes automatically chooses the audio and video to sync, etc.").
*I consider this to be normal and expected behaviour.*
    2) Downloaded and installed the 2.1 update (again...). After reboot the ATV was still on my network and still linked to my Mac. However there was no longer any media content on the ATV (as before).
*I do not consider this to be normal, expected behaviour. Nor, for that matter, is wiping user content acceptable.*
    3) Cancelled and relinked ATV to Mac. As soon as the linking code was entered, automatic sync started. Only the one movie was copied, but no music.
*I do not consider this to be normal, expected behaviour.*
    4) When that sync was completed I went and checked all the songs in one album in iTunes as a quick test, then sync'd again. That song was promptly copied to the ATV.
    Progress!
    5) Checked all songs, initiated a new sync and they're being copied as I write.
    Success!
So v2.1 requires music to be manually selected in iTunes in order for automatic sync to work. Anyone not spot a contradiction in terms? Furthermore that was certainly not the case in software versions prior to 2.1, nor was this change communicated in any way I'm aware of to the user.
My conclusion is that this is either a bug, or else sheer thoughtlessness on Apple's part.
But my sincere thanks to those who've helped me to restore proper function to the ATV (well, fingers crossed), a device that I've become very fond of.

I have the nomad jukebox zen xtra 30gig that froze up over a year ago after i tried to install the firmware upgrade. After the unsuccessful attempt, the mp3 player stopped working.... I mean no power at all. I've changed the battery and recharged the battery from an outside source...still no luck. I can't even try any of the suggestions anyone gives on this site because I have no power.Does anyone have this problem? More important, does anyone have this problem and know of a solution?I've already set my pc back to wmp 0, I have the firmware on the desktop waiting. Now all I need is some power on this unit so that i can try some of the suggestions that seems to be working for people. Thank you

I have the same problem too, but my unit is a?Creative Normad Junebox Zen Xtra 40GB. I was trying to find a solution to my problem when I read about your problem. I have pressed the reset button, on / off switch, removed the battery, reinstalled the battery, and nothing seems to work. I was hoping you?might get a solution to this problem, so that I might be able to fix my MP3 player. If I hear of a solution, I will let you know, thanks for sharing. Issue:? While updating the firmware to the Zen Xtra 40 GB, the unit powered down and?has never came on again. There seems to be no real reason why the unit should not power up. The battery and the AC adapter are working correctly. I am very disappointed in Creative...

  • ZEN TOUCH 20GB - Stuck in Recovery Mode, during Firmware upgrade. HEL

    Ooooh dear.
Me and my Zen Touch are completely stuck. Decided to upgrade the Zen's Software and Firmware and am now in deep trouble. Here are the steps I took.
First I sensibly backed up the 2000 songs on the player to my computer. Then I updated the MediaSource software and restarted the computer. Then I decided to go for the big change and downloaded the new PlayForSure firmware installation and that's where the problem starts - It never completed the installation, which I had to manually stop. I knew as part of puting this new Firmware onto the player, the Zen would be wiped clean, which it has. However, I now cannot get it out of recovery mode and it will not respond to attempts to download the new (or any) Firmware onto it.
    What I now get is:
-Plug the Zen in, the computer recognises that there is plug and play equipment attached and makes the appropriate noise.
-The Zen will switch itself on as a response (or I can do it manually), with a normal-looking startup. It then briefly flashes a screen saying "Firmware Problem" before going into recovery mode.
-If I choose Clean Up, it takes a few seconds to clean the now empty disk, and returns to the recovery menu
-If I choose Format All, pretty much the same as Clean Up
-If I choose Reload Firmware, it warns me that the firmware will be erased. And asks if it should reload it via USB. You say 'yes' and it briefly flashes up "Start firmware update now" before returning to the recovery mode menu.
And finally, if I select Reboot, that's exactly what it does; the computer recognises that it's turned off, makes the noise, and recognises when it's turned on again.
Trying to download the Firmware from the computer, however, has turned into a nightmare. I've tried downloading the PlayForSure firmware and old Firmware from the files on my computer (running XP, by the way). And I've also tried prompting the Zen starting up the Media Source software, BUT they all claim that the player is NOT connected! Even though it is! The Zen switches on and Windows makes a sound every time I connect or disconnect it!
So what to do? I'm stuck in this vicious circle and no matter what random tricks I try, I can't get out. The player needs Firmware, but the software on the computer claims the player's not connected.
The player is now more than a year old, so I can't return it, and Creative's less-than-generous telephone support is not an option, so I'm left to any imaginati've and kind-hearted subscribers to this list to offer suggestions.
    HELP!
    Mark in the UK

My son?s Zen simply turned on one morning and refused to do anything except enter recovery mode, giving a firmware problem error and Creative Zen v0.0.58After an hours research I solved the problemI hope this helps someone out, but remember anything you do is your responsibility not mine, continue at your own judgment

  • Creative Zen Microphoto - "Firmware upgrade failed&qu

    Hi,
two days ago my Zen Microphoto started in "Recovery Mode".
I had no means of getting out. I first selected "Clean Up" and rebooted, still "Recovery Mode".
Then I downloaded the latest firmware version for it:
    ZENMicroPhoto_PCFW_L6__3_0.exe
Then I selected "Upgrade Firmware", acknowledged with "Yes", the firmware was deleted, but the windows firmware application said "no player connected" after connecting the player.
Okay, after googling a bit, I found out that I needed to downgrade from WMP to WMP 0.
I (painfully) did this and after installing an additional Registry Key via fixup.cmd the
    ZENMicroPhoto_PCFW_L6__3_0.exe
detected the player (hurray!). It showed "Current Player Firmware Version .20.0 " and "Upgrade File Version .3.0".
When clicking on "Upgrade" at the windows application, the blue progress bar appeared and the player showed "Recovery Mode" and a blinking USB logo.
What it did NOT show afterwards was a gear symbol with "Upgrading firmware" (which I found on a screenshot in the internet).
When the blue progress bar of the windows firmware upgrade application reached about 85% it halted and after minute the windows firmware application showed "Firmware upgrade failed!" while the player only showed a black screen with "Recovery Mode" and the green battery symbol at the top.
I also tried the same procedure with
ZenMicroPhotoP4S_PCFW_LB__20_0.exe with the same result: "Firmware upgrade failed!"
Any ideas how to "repair" the player

  • Zen Micro Firmware Upgrade 1.01.03: Problems when Downloading and Installing the Upgr

Yesterday I downloaded the new firmware upgrade .0.03 to my computer without problems. I then attempted to open the upgrade and initiate transfer to my Zen Micro unit through my USB 2.0 cable. I kept getting a dialog box, informing me that there was an interference problem... So I shut down my Norton anti-virus and my Zone Alarm firewall, and tried again, and again, and again. I was unable to initiate the transfer program...
I was about to contact you this evening for advice, but I decided to first switch my USB cable to another connector and try one more time. Surprise! It worked... A rather long connection, but the upgrade is now in my Zen Micro unit, just where it's needed...
I've had my USB cable connected to what I believe is a USB 2.0 connection on my computer, and I often see the "not connected" dialog box. Each time this happens, I disconnect the cable from the Zen Micro unit, then reconnect it... Bells and whisltes sound, and I'm connected again, until a few minutes later I get the "not connected" dialog box yet again... Is this a normal procedure?
Now, tonight I plugged the USB cable into what I've always considered to be a slower USB connection point... Mybe that's why the transfer took so long? But it stays connected indefinitely... no "not connected" dialog box.
I've been having other transfer problems through the USB 2.00 connection point. I downloaded 23 tracks to my Zen Micro yesterday afternoon, and three of the tracks didn't make it... Frustrating as hell...
I'd appreciate any comments from my peers, since everyone here has more experience than me...
    kooch

    koochiching,
Try turning off the Media Sniffer feature from MediaSource and try updating the firmware again.

  • [Zen Micro] Firmware upgrade has bloc

    Hi,
I'm upgrading my Zen Micro firmware from ..0 to 2.2.02 version right now, but it looks like the process has stuck. My processor seems not to be working, the progress bar is no more advancing and the arrows on my player are white. There's a message on the window that says "Rebooting your player. Please wait." But nothing actually happens. What should I do? If I plugged off my player, can I cause it any damage? Should I restart the upgrade? As the 'Close' button is available for clicking, I can assume the process is stoppable and its terminating shouldn't cause damages... can't I?
    Please, help me.
    Thank you for your suggestions.
    haunted

And no software will acknowledge mine since I stupidly upgrade to the 2 level firmware. I've been on a three-week merry go round with email customer service...they've even had me go into the registry of my computer (yikes!) but no solution.

  • Had a failed Firmware Upgrade on a Zen??? LOOK INSIDE FOR POSSIBLE

From the Nomadness.net forums: (I had the same problem and user inferno9 at those forums posted this which fixed my issues - hope it helps!)
The problem was that I had formatted the dri've and attempted to reload the firmware, when, BOOM, the firmware updates would not detect the player. I tried all kinds of different strategies, different drivers, different applications, safe mode, etc...until I FINALLY figured it out.
Buried deep within Microsoft's website, I found this link...
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player//readme.aspx#RollingbacktoapreviousversionofthePlay er
    Quote:
Issues updating firmware on Creative ZEN portable devices after installing Windows Media Player
If you have a Creative ZEN device, make sure the device has the latest firmware before you install the beta release of Windows Media Player . To download the latest firmware, go to Creative Worldwide.
If you try to upgrade the firmware on your Creative ZEN after you install the beta release of Windows Media Player , the Creative firmware upgrade software might not recognize your device.
In this case, remove Windows Media Player , update the Creative firmware, and then reinstall Windows Media Player . Creative plans to address this issue in future firmware updates.

  • Zen MX Firmware upgrade issues

I purchased my Zen MX a few weeks ago. It's been fully charged and I've been using it. It works great! I decieded to upgrade the firmware from the existing v .00.09 on the player to the v .02.04 version that's available on the Creative website. I've read and followed the firmware upgrade instructions and all seemed to be going well until I clicked on the upgrade package.
The player goes dark and the window tells me that it can't connect with the device. Then I get a device timeout error message. The it tells me I need to reflash it again. So I click the upgrade button again and the green progress bar starts to move and then stop and I'm prompted again to click the upgrade button again. It's just a vicious circle from there. I did notice that the window where the upgrade button is shows me that the current firmware version on the player is v 00.00.00. This leads me to suspect the the upgrade software is not connecting with player at all. When I click close in the upgrade window the software on the PC closes and the screen on the player comes back to life.
Any and all help is appreciated! Thanks!
    BTW I'm running Vista 32

I evetually figured out that it was vista that was preventing the upgrade from happening. So I downloaded the software from an XP machine and transfer the dfiles via a flash dri've. All went well after that. Let me know how you make out.
