First aide will not varify / repair permissions on grandmas minimac

My grand mothers mac mimi seems to be running very slow so I tried to repair / varify permissions and would do only about 80% on the status bar where the spinning wheel of death would pop up and I would have to force quit which also took a lot of time. Any suggestions of what I should do next would be appreciated. The operating system is 10.4. A tech tool pro disk came with her apple care package but I read a while back in discussions that there has been a problem with compatibility with those apple care TTP disks and tiger so I am holding off using it until I can varify that it is ok to use.
Thanks

Actually, a copy of Micromat's "Tech Tool Deluxe" should have come with your Mac mini's AppleCare Protection Plan box. Here is an article which details the incompatibility. If you have Tech Tool Deluxe 3.0.4 on your disk, then you should be good to go. Otherwise, I'd give AppleCare Support a call to get an updated CD.

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X

As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:
Permissions you can ignore on 10.5 onwards:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard onwards changed the location of a number of system components.

  • Permissions verify/repair has been modified and will not be repaired.

Lately, I have noticed a slower response and web pages with text,
    are scrambled.
So I got rid of the too many jpeg pictures I had, and ran disk utility.
First ran verify and then repair.
    The report shows as follows:
    1.Warning:SUID file "system/library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent"
has been modified and will not be repaired.
2.Warning:SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Reso urces/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Is this something I need to take action on?
Or when the system modified them, it should be ok?
This imac is less than six months old, so I don't want to have any problems.
Perhaps the two issues have nothing to do with this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Signed,
    Self taught MacMan/ John

No problems. Common to see that and nothing to take action over.

  • Permissions repair: SUID file system/library/coreservices/remotemanagement/ARDAgent/contents/MacOS/ARDAgent has been modified and will not be repaired

I have a mid 2007 iMac running OS Mavericks and the hard drive is failing. When doing a disk permissions verify it shows  SUID file system/library/coreservices/remotemanagement/ARDAgent/contents/MacOS/ARDAgent has been modified and will not be repaired. I do not have a backup of my system due to my external drive I use for backing up my system has stopped working. Can I repair this myself without having to reinstall the OS so I don't loose my any of my files.

    You can safely ignore that.

Im just glad to see others have the exact same permission changes, which as the other replied stated, makes me not worry about it.
I just don't like Apple changing permissions so they can "read" anything on my computer they want - when Im on iTunes for instance.

  • After updating to Mavericks, get this during Permissions Repair: Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired"?

Repaired permissions once, got rid of the the previous iTunes errors. Cleared history and repaired again, still get:
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
    Any ideas?

I have just started seeing this message and, almost simultaneously, have started to have problems with various different apps crashing for no real reason. Just a coincidence?
For interest, SketchUp crashed with the message
    "Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x00000000f7f7fff9"
    and QuarkXpress with the message
    "Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000000"
Am I just punching at shadows or could these be linked?
Hope someone can put my mind at rest.
    Cheers....Scotty

What does the message "Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired" when repairing disk permissions?

It's just a status message, albeit a misleading one, and can be ignored.

During a routine verify permissions using my disc utility, I'm getting a WARNING: SUID file "Systems/Library/CoreService….ent" has been modified and will not be repaired. What does this mean?? I'm not awawre that I did anything to cause this and is it somethingI should try to fix?

    1. It means that the current software is installed.
    2. It's not something you should try to fix.
    3. Verifying and repairing permissions shouldn't be done as routine tasks.

  • Permissions: "ARDAgent has been modified and will not be repaired"

After upgrading to Snow Leopard, I find there are fewer permissions that are found incorrect. However, there is one that never gets corrected and I always get following output from Disk Utility:
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
I haven't modified the file directly. I found where it resides and got info on it in the Finder. I changed one of the permissions and then changed it back thinking that Disk Utility would now see it as incorrect and repair it, but it never does. Can someone please suggest a solution? I'm comfortable repairing the file manually with Terminal, if given the correct instruction. Thanks!

I also get both , every time I repair. :
SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Reso urces/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.
I read the reply, but I have a follow up question... will they ever send an update? Or will we ever get to fix somehow?
