First authorization in Solaris 11
Hi guys.
I am beginner in Solaris OS.
I am installed Solaris 11 on my computer. When I try to enter in Solaris OS (which I installed) the system offers to enter login and password.
I enter login and password of user which I created when I am installing OS. System says wrong .
Also I enter login "root" and password same as user account which I created(so written in documentation). But system says wrong.
Also I enter login and password : root/root , root/solaris ...
Can anyone help me in this situation
The problem had been solved.
System is not giving access because I am entering login of user ,which I created, in low register (hovewer, when I am entering login of user during install, the first letter was in large register).

Do anyone have any idea what going on and how can I fix it ?Hi,
solaris has several issues with DISM, e.g.:
Solaris 10 and Solaris 11 Shared Memory Locking May Fail (Doc ID 1590151.1)
Sounds like Solaris Cluster has a similar bug. A "workaround" is to reboot the (cluster) zone, that "fixes" the mlock error. This bug was introduced with updates in september, atleast to our environment (Solaris 11.1). Prior i did not have the issue and now i have to restart the entire zone, whenever i stop crs.
With 11.2.0.3 the root.sh script can be rerun without prior cleaning up, so you should be able to continue installation at that point after the reboot. After the root.sh completes some configuration assistants need to be run, to complete the installation. You need to execute this manually as you wipe your oui session
Kind Regards

ISE first authorization sucess and then fail (MAB)
Hi,
Using ISE 1.1.1 and Switch 3650 12.2(55)SE6.
I have a client (computer) that should be authenticated with MAB and then the switch port should be asigned a DACL and VLAN 90. I do get
"Authorization succeeded" but directly after it fails and I can't figure out why. ISE only shows the successful authentication under "Live Authenticaions".
As you can se from the log below 802.1x fails, as it should, and then MAB succeed, asigns the VLAN and then fails:

Is there a problem with the client (computer) or in ISE/Switch?Hi Tarik,
First off; thank you for helping me troubleshoot this problem.
I think the "IP-" part of "IP-ACL-IWMAC" is beeing added automaticly (in the switch maby?). I see this behaviour on other dACL too. I did not change the name of the ACL.
You seem to have a valid theory about the icmp statement. I changed it to "permit icmp any any" and it seems to work. But I can't explain why this is happening.
When I look at the debugs I see this difference
With the original ACL I get this:
%EPM-6-POLICY_REQ: IP 0.0.0.0| MAC f04d.a223.8f43| AuditSessionID 0A0005FC00000053E70733F4| AUTHTYPE DOT1X| EVENT APPLYReplacing duplicate ACE entry for host 10.90.5.1

%AUTHMGR-5-FAIL: Authorization failed for client (f04d.a223.8f43) on Interface Fa0/13 AuditSessionID 0A0005FC00000053E70733F4
When using "permit icmp any any" i get this:
%EPM-6-POLICY_REQ: IP 0.0.0.0| MAC f04d.a223.8f43| AuditSessionID 0A0005FC00000055E70B8E7D| AUTHTYPE DOT1X| EVENT APPLY
%EPM-6-AAA: POLICY xACSACLx-IP-ACL-IWMAC-50eea905| EVENT DOWNLOAD-REQUEST
I tried googeling but can't find what "Replacing duplicate ACE entry for host xxx" means.
I have added debugs in attachment.
device1_orig_acl - the none working device with original ACL
device1_any_any - the none working device with permit icmp any any
working_device_orig_acl - the device that works with the original ACL
Do you have an answer to why this is happening?

Hi All,
Here's my issue, I've installed Adobe Digital Editions epub reader. I was doing that first time and there's nothing about multiple accounts that need to have matching the same email address.
I selected "I want to authorize my computer without an ID". That was first mistake. Then I created myself new Adobe account and erased authorization in ADE. Tried to apply new authorization with my new AdobeID, still error opening the book.
After investigating and wasting few hours I managed to change the email address associated with AdobeID to match to book vendor HPPress.
Unregistered ADE and registered with correct email address, the book still doesn't open
At this stage I was able to install and open the book on another PC, but the first one (PC), even after software re-install doesn't allow me to open the book.
I've tried to find anything on Adobe website that would allow me to remove the incorrect association but no luck.
Do you think there is a way to erase authorization of the PC and use the correct one?
Thanks
SlavHey Shreya,
At the first time ADE I tried to authorize pc without AdobeID (as that is overkill, another silly account just for one time use)
then I downloaded the book first time,
that didn't work, so I had to create AdobeID, (fist AID was with different email address, which later I corrected, removing and authorizing the pc at each change)
final test that I've done was:
remove ADE from my pc,
remove the ebook from my pc,
install ADE,
authorize with AdobeID (correct email),
download ebook again,
but still have error -

Solaris 10 as router using ipfilter and nat
Hi,
I installed Solaris 10 on a second disk on an Ultra 5, but have no

I have it working on the first disk with Solaris 9 and ipfilter 3.4.35.
I have pfil on both interfaces (hme0 internal and qfe0

I had the same problem with Solaris 9 using ipfilter 4.x and had to go

Dual Booting Windows and Solaris
Hi
how do i dual boot windows and solaris
Do i install windows first and then solaris or do it the other way around..?
how do i make sure that Windows and Solaris appear in my boot options..?
Is their a guide on doing this...?
Thanks
LiamHey I did a quick google search for you. So I havent tried this method myself but it sounds reasonable.
The text below is from the following link:
http://www.hccfl.edu/pollock/AUnix1/DualBoot.htm
"Solaris boot loader
Partition the drive to leave at least 2GB of space available for Solaris;
more drive space is desirable.
As with Linux, install Windows first then Solaris.
Do not use the Installation CD but boot and install
from Software CD 1.
If you accept the default partitioning scheme which
the installer provides you will soon run out of space in
your / and /usr partitions since only enough space is
allocated to install the system.
All extra space is allocated to /export/home.
A typical installation on a 4.5GB partition might look
something like this:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/dsk/c0d0s0 900M 536M 310M 64% /
/dev/dsk/c0d0s1 334M 109M 192M 36% /var
swap 671M 8.0k 671M 1% /var/run
swap 671M 8.0k 671M 1% /tmp
/dev/dsk/c0d0s5 845M 222M 565M 29% /opt
# (FAT32 partition):
/dev/dsk/c0d0p0:1 5.0G 3.3G 1.6G 66% /c
/dev/dsk/c0d0s7 1.1G 92M 954M 9% /export/home
/dev/dsk/c0d0s4 752M 225M 474M 33% /usr/local
The Solaris boot selector enables you to choose either
Solaris or Windows with Solaris as the default.
(I prefer grub or lilo!)
To mount FAT under Solaris:
# mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/c0d0p0:c /dos (or :1?)
And the vfstab file:
/dev/dsk/c0d0p0:c - /dos pcfs - yes -
To create a GRUB boot floppy, follow these steps:
$ mkfs -t ext2 /dev/fd0
$ mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/fd0
$ mkdir /mnt/fd0/boot /mnt/fd0/boot/grub
$ cp /boot/grub/stage[12] /boot/grub/grub.conf \
> /mnt/fd0/boot/grub
$ /sbin/grub --batch <
Hope this helps!

Solaris 10 x86 stable on Intel Xeon Woodcrest CPUs?
We are looking at deploying Solaris 10 x86 for a new mail server project (using ZFS as the FS). In the past, we've purchased mostly Dell PowerEdge servers, and this will be our first foray into Solaris. I'm looking at using a HP Server for this project, and would like to use one of the new models that has the Intel Xeon 51xx "Woodcrest" family of CPUs. I see that there is a kernel patch available that enhances the stability of Solaris under this platform, and wanted to hear experiences from others as to the stability of Solaris 10 x86 with the Woodcrest Xeon's.
TIA.FYI, I was able to install a copy of Solaris 10 x86 8/07 on my GX150.
I guess there is some changes in the Kernel between releases that have caused the incompatibility. -
Optical wheel mouse (USB) on Solaris 8
After following the instruction given in the "Solaris for Intel X86 FAQ" to install XFree86 4.0.2, my Microsoft WheelMouse Optical (on a USB port) doesn't work at all. Furthermore, after adding the CDE fonts in "/usr/openwin/lib/fonts/F3bitmaps/" to XF86Config, the fonts that appear on the CDE login screen look like those bitmap figures that are stretched like craps. What should I do to make my mouse work and how can I configure the CDE so that I see the original fonts that originally comes with SUN? Please advice.
I have the same problem with my mouse. First I installed Solaris 8 - the mouse worked just fine. Then I installed Xfree86 drivers and after reconfiguring and rebooting my system my mouse doesn't work at all. I use XF86Config utility to configure the new X server. At the beginning it asks you about your mouse, so I choose "Microsoft compatible" or "Microsoft IntelliMouse" - it doesn't work. It also asks to point to the mouse driver but I'm not sure what to choose so I use the default /dev/mouse. Please advise.

How do I get from Branded Zones to "real" Solaris 10 Zones?
My head is beginning to spin! I am beginning to think I have been led down a blind alley.
We have vast numbers of old Solaris 8 systems that we want to consolidate on new hardware in Solaris 10 Zones. We have been bombarded with advice that the way to go is to move it first to Branded Zones, as a stepping stone, and then migrate/upgrade it from there to Solaris 10. So we have started on our journey.
We now have our first bunch of Solaris 8 containers happily installed and running. And yes, it was relatively easy and painless, and the tool support was good. But now what? What are the steps and tools that will make the second step, from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10?
Everything out there hints that it is supposed to be easy. But every time I try and spec out the steps for our teams to follow I come unstuck. Does Live Upgrade feature in this anywhere? (And if so, at what point does my zone lose its Brand identity?) Is there some way to use archives? (And if so, how do I only include the bits I need to move?) Is there something magic under the covers of the Zone administration commands? (And if so, what pulls in my Solaris 8 stuff?) Is there at least some tool somewhere that will capture the configuration I need and build me a new one?
If the answer is that I just define the new Zone by hand and re-install all my applications from scratch, then can somebody explain just what I have achieved so far, and in what way it can be construed as a "stepping stone"?Correct. But we have now invested in the time taken to learn about Branded Zones, do the migrations, teach the support teams how to manage them... Plus we are paying the subscription for the Branded Zone software. And we still have pure Solaris 8 applications staring end-of-support in the face. We could have made the same investment to re-install the applications in a real Solaris 10 Zone and make them work "properly". All the publicity tells me I've made my migration to Solaris 10 much easier, but I still can't see how I'm any nearer my end point. Here's where your losing it. There is no real distinction between what you call a normal Solaris 10 zone and a Solaris Branded 8 zone. They could have called it something else and you would still insist that somehow one is normal and one is not. There are a variety of Branded Zones. There's a Solaris 8, Solaris 9, and Linux Branded Zones. They differ from what you call "normal" zones in that you basically are adding an OS to the Base OS and are not just copying files from the Base OS. That's the only difference. In all other respects they are the same. The only differentiators is for a Branded Zone you are adding the files from some other OS, even if it's just an earlier version of Solaris.
How do you migrate from a Solaris 8 zone to a Solaris 10 zone. The same way that you moved from the Solaris 8 physical box to the Solaris 8 branded zone. The steps should be the same. Implicite_Order pretty much said the same thing.
You seem to have a hang up on the words "normal zone." Yea I know, you've spent time and money and educated everyone and now your looking for the payoff. As I already stated and has been echoed by I_O, contact the vendor to see if they have Solaris 10 support, if they do, create a zone on a dev box, do some testing, and then create the zone on the real box, do the install, migrate the data. Just as you already did from the Solaris 8 box. If they don't have a Solaris 10 specific version you can still setup a test box, create a "normal" zone, install the app and some test data, make sure it works, and then create the "normal" zone, install the app, migrate the data, and relax.

Which release?? branded solaris 9 and solaris 8.
Hi people:
First question using solaris 10u10 and making branded zones;
which releases of solaris 9 and solaris8 are reported. I mean the printout of cat /etc/release of that branded zones will be...
Second one.. can I use P2V to put a solaris 10u6 box into a Solaris 10u10 or solaris 11 on a T3-1B box.. I ask because the lowest solaris 10 supported is u9 on the T3-1B.
Third one.. If question 2 isn't doable with Solaris10u10 could be done with Solaris11? Yes using P2V.
Thanks for any comment!Yes, you'll need the x86 version, not the SPARC version.
I'd guess you probably need a fairly late version of Solaris 9 too in order to even boot the kernel on the AMD processors. -
Performance on Solaris 10 - Operating system paging
Has anyone experience performance issues after an upgrade from Solaris 9 to Solaris 10 on SAP systems with limited memory?
We have many systems that are on servers with 4 Gig of memory and ran well on Solaris 9. After an upgrade to Solaris 10 we are experiencing very high OS system paging rates. The response times of the SAP systems are very poor when this occurs. It seems to take very little load to cause this.
I realize more memory or decreases in Oracle or SAP memory parms will solve this but am wondering if there is anything on the Solaris OS that could resolve this?
Thanks,
DanDISM can be used but in global zone only (according to Sun document "Best Practive for Running Database in Solaris Containers" , the proc_lock_memory privilege which is required to run the ora_dism_ process is not available in non globale zone)
The doc i got is from 2005, so don't know if the Sun recommendations has been updated since then.
In order to activate DISM (if you are in a global zone), sga_max_size should be set up larger than the sum of sga components: db_cache_size, shared_pool_size ...)
Also look for the Sun Blueprint "Dynamic Reconfiguration and Oracle 9i Dynamic Resizable SGA" on http://www.sun.com/blueprints
If you use ISM because in a non-global zone, you can use oracle parameter lock_sga to ensure the SGA is loaded into the RAM and useism_for_pga = true to ensure PGA is loaded into the RAM.
Make sure you have enough RAM to hold filesystem cache (OS memory) , oracle memory, and applications memory
Make sur your PGA and SGA are correctly sized size, since you won't be able to dynamically change the ISM allocation. (see v$shared_pool_advice, v$db_cache_advice, v$pga_target_advice ...)
Take the usual precautions:
- have a successfull backup first
- do the change on a test machine
- and/or ask your vendor before proceeding
Other Doc to read ...
Note 697483 - "Oracle Dynamic SGA on Solaris" (recommends to read Sun doc n°230653)
Note 724713 - parameter settings for Solaris 10, here is an extract :
Only one parameter from SAP note 395438 should remain in file
etc/system
set rlim_fd_cur=8192
As described in SunSolve document 215536, the "Large Page Out Of the Box" (LPOOB) feature of the Solaris 10 memory management, first implemented in Solaris 10 1/06 (Update 1), can lead to performance problems when the system runs out of large chunks of free contiguous memory. This is because the Solaris 10 kernel by default will attempt to relocate memory pages to free up space for creating larger blocks of contiguous memory. Known symptoms are high %system CPU time in vmstat, high number of cross calls in mpstat, and Oracle calling mmap(2) to /dev/zero for getting more memory.
Memory page relocation for satisfying large page allocation requests can be disabled by setting the following Solaris kernel parameter in /etc/system
set pg_contig_disable=1
This will not switch off the LPOOB feature. Large memory pages will still be used when enough free space of contiguous memory is available, so the benefits of this feature will remain

Solaris 10 system frozen.
Hi!
First, excuse me my bad english, and due this is the first time I wrote here, also if this isn't the right forum.
We have a nas machine with a complete install of solaris 10. All is make in ZFS. The systems install is a zpool, and we have two zpool more. All was working fine, up to one or two weeks ago.
Sometimes we need to restart the machine, because any service (ssh, samba, ftp or lighttpd) is ready. If we make a ping to the machine its answer right, but we are unable to enter it via SSH, or use any other service.
Due the inexperience with this system (we have only experience with FreeBSD or GNU/Linux), we can't see what's the problem (doesn't appear anything in any /var/log archive log).
Please, anybody could help us with any kind of url, information, etc?
This is the machine's dmesg. Tell me is you need any informacion.

Thank you very much.
Manuel.

man syslog.conf and it will explain it to you.Thank you!! the name "log"host suggested me a reference to the system log, but I had not thought that this was like in freebsd.
All of the services listed are network related so I was heading in that direction. You might want to look at /var/adm/messages which is were normal system messages are written to on a Solaris system.I cannot see anything related about a services/network/disks problem in /var/adm/messages.
Also, instead of nmap try http://www.ilkda.com/op.htm instead and see what that says for open ports on the system.
Good. But this is a script to run in the system, and when we have this problem I cannot make a login into the system. I made the nmap scan because I was confused due the imposibility to access to any service, but to have ping answer from the server.
So the question becomes: You had to reboot because system services stop responding? From your post it looks like they are network related but you think it has something to do with the disk setup instead? The big problem: I have experience with FreeBSD and GNU/Linux systems, but this is my first experience with Solaris (in other words; I'm a Solaris newbie).
At first I thought it was a problem regarding the disk or system ZFS, but now I have serious doubts about whether this is a problem of network/services or disk.
I haven't enought clues to determine (today) if this is a disk or a service/network problem, because only one time I can at the datacenter when occurs the problem, I connected a monitor and a usb keyboard; the monitor displayed the normal screen (no syslog information about any problem), and the usb-keyboard doesn't work and was completely impossible to make a login and watch were service, network, etc.
The link to ipnodes is correct depending on the version of Solaris that you are running btw. Yes. According to the documentation in Solaris 10 ipnodes is a link to the hosts file.
Please help clarify where the issue is.Excuse me. I can understand that you have problems trying to help me due my lack of information and my bad english. But I'm confident that with your help, we can know, at least, what its happening with this problem.
Thank you very much Alan.

Cloning from solaris 10 sparc to solaris 10 x86
Hi,
We would like to know if it is possible to clone from production instance solaris 10 sparc to test instance solaris 10 x86 (intel) in 11.5.10CU2.
And if yes or no is it possible in R12.1.2.
Thanks
Brice GuillardHi,
Is it possible to have the first node on solaris 10 x86 with the database and the other on solaris 10 sparc ?Not possible as this OS is not certified.
What happen with rapid clone if we clone the production instance full sparc to a test instance with solaris 10 x86 on the database and the application server on x86.Rapid Clone will not work on this target OS because it is not supported.

Hussein
