First day w/ new iMac -- applications crashing
Today is my first day with a new flat screen iMac. I started out by transferring my files from my older Mac (Power PC), running 10.4.7.
After completing the transfer -- and downloading new versions of the assorted applications -- my new iMac has been crashing many applications all day long. Toast, for example. I've tried two burns tonight and both crashed during the final burn stage.
GoogleEarth is another. It won't even open on this new computer, crashing instantly. Internet Explorer (admitted, an old version), also crashed. PeerGuardian is another.
Why all these crashes? Did I do something wrong? Should I reinstall the master discs on this new drive, as opposed to continuing on with the transferred versions? Is it the jump up to 10.5.3?

Migrating PowerPC applications to an Intel Mac can be unreliable. I'd recommend downloading the latest Intel versions of the applications you need and re-installing them. From a security perspective using IE is a bad idea and given that MS stopped releasing versions / supporting IE on Macs many years ago. Firefox 2 and Safari 3 are good browsers and Opera and Camino have many fans too.

I just download and install itunes 10.5 and it worked good the first days but since yesterday it crashed up, and everytime i start it it crashes again and logged me out each time. it can´t acces my itunes account. Try doing it in a WIndows Safe mode - Restart computer and hit F8 key right after your see BIOS check and choose "Safe mode with networking"
Do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that does not work, whilst in safe mode, download Free Malwarebyte software from CNET's Download.com. Install, update virus definition then perform a full scan. Remove if it did find some viruses or trojans. Restart computer.
Back to regular windows, do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that doesnot work, check to see if your Hard drive has errors or bad sectors
GO START BUTTON /COMPUTER, right mouse click OS (C:) and choose "Properties"
Choose "Tools" tab and under error checking, click "Check Now".
Make sure "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" is checked and click start.
Restart windows will perform the above task to fix errors This may take hours depends on how big is your Hard Drive

So this is my second breand new iMac that I ordered direct from the apple Website - I got it about 5 days ago. They had me return the first one because it kept crashing. Now this one does too...
Here is the crash report. It has crashed 3 times today - I have not installed any software that did not come with it (except Simcity, but it was crashing before that).
I have repaired the disk permissions already.
Can anyone help? I really dont want to return this one too - I have wasted a lot of time setting this up.

First day on new contract and a fault on the line....
I never normally bother writing in these forums but wanted to vent my frustrations somewhere after spending hours on the phone to BT and bascially getting no where.
Have been a BT phone customer for quite a few years and decided to move the broadband to BT in order to get the BT sport channel. The first day that my service was meant to switch providers the phone line is totally dead and obviously no broadband. When I spoke to someone, having spent ages on hold, they tested the line and found a fault. I told them how this happening on the same day as we changed contracts is a coincidence that I fail to accept. They basically said that it was a coincidence and it could take up to a week to fix. I live on a farm and therefore use the phone and internet for work and also have very limited mobile phone reception. If I had known we would have this issue when we changed contracts I'm not sure I would have bothered. We will see how this plays out from now but whilst each individual I spoke to seemed to understand and appreciate my position I basically got no where and on the first day of a new contract with BT I am left deeply unimpressed with the service.Hi michaelpearce84,

Two-day old iMac began crashing shortly after Pro Tools installation. The screen flashes too quickly, so hopefully the coding is correctly transcribed form photographs.

New iMac 2013 crashing using FCPX
My new full-loaded top of the line 2013 iMac has been consistently crashing the past few days. I've tried disconnecting external drives, closing other apps but the problem still persists.Sometimes it's a temporary stalling but recently it's been a full on crash. It seems to occur just when FCPX needs to render. I ran CONSOLE and this is the message I got:

Any ideas?Most of the crashes freeze my entire computer requiring a full re-start with the power button. Below is a report from a FCPX crash that occurred this morning. In terms of effects, I'm using Ripple Tools FS FXFactory in the project specifically the GUIDES tool. Other than that the only other "change" I made before these issues started was using the opentype font META in the project. Fonts are being loaded using FontExplorer X Pro.

Mac App Store not working - first day with new MacBook Pro
Hi guys,
I received a new MacBook Pro 13 inch with retina display today and have been working on it this evening but I have a problem: My app store won't open.
It was fine earlier - I downloaded both textwrangler and notepad - but now, whenever I click on the icon in the dock it bounces for a few seconds before simply showing a blank screen.
I have uninstalled my downloads from the day in the hope that it would prove to be a fix but nothing has happened. I live in the UK so it's too late for me to ring the store - it's past 10pm here - but I was hoping somebody could help me out!
Also - My iTunes doesn't work - whenever I try to purchase an album or listen to any music an error message pops up reading 'an unknown error occurred.' I'm not sure if the two problems are linked...
Any help will be greatly, and gladly, appreciated!Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2. -

I have a brand new 27" iMac with 32GB RAM, 3.5 Intel GHz Core i7, NVidia GeFirce GTX 780M video card, and a 3TB Fusion drive. I'm also using an older cinema display as secondary display. via the mini Disply port. I also have NAS on the network, and run a large iTunes library from the NAS.
I am getting frequent (about 2 a day) crashes, an have tried manythings to solve the issue, including:
* repairing and verifying permissions and disks.
* resetting PRAM
* reinstalling iOS (though not from scratch ... I've installed over my existing installation)
* ejected/unattached peripherals, including a USB 3.0 hub. Right now the only devices attached are Apple products (iPhone, iPod, Cinema Disply)
Typically, the crash happens when I'm browsing, in Safari or Chrome. I'll make a selection, then things freeze for a couple seconds, then the grey screen and restart. Crash reports typically site a BSD process, Saari or Chrome, or iTunes.
I've contacted support about 3 times, they keep telling me to go through the same steps I've gone through.
I have numerous crash reports.
Please advise. It's very frustrating as I spent quite a bit on this machine and my 8 year old tower worked great, performed well, and was very relaiable.Here's my crash report ... since posting I have been talking to Apple support, e went through a bunch of cache cleaning steps, which seemed to help some ... but then it started crashing again. Brand new iMac 24" crashes and burns playing games in bootcamp
If this continues I guess I will have to call support but for those that are interested here is the story:
I have a 24" iMac 3gig and I have installed bootcamp - although I am not convinced as to how well this worked with the driver install as I have problems pairing my bluetooth mouse and keyboard in windows - works fine in OS/X.
If I play WoW in OS/X it seems to handle this. I currently bought Warhammer Online which is PC only so I put it into my bootcamp partition. It runs absolutely fine until it gets hot and then it quite happily brings the machine down.
Symptoms.
wireless networking stops
bluetooth becomes unreliable even when rebooted into OS/X
System crashes and screen goes black - no repsonse or anything
I find this worrying as such occurences cannot be doing my system any good.
I installed fan control and tried upping the fans and my ssytem is now a little noisy but it still happens.
After spending so much money on what is touted as a robust and performant system I am very disapointed. It seems despite controlling and selecting hardware Apple are no better than PC manufacturers. Except prettier

For most of my needs I am happy with the Mac, a little disapointed with boot camp but that is all. Not just the game, but also the bluetooth keyboard - just can't get it to work. Works perfectly in OS/X which I guess is the main thing.
Only real niggle in OS/X is the mighty mouse seems to be a bit sporadic with the right click. Works for a time and then doesn't. Very annoying, mainly becuase when it is working properly it is brilliant - so infuriating when it doesn't.
Still - early days yet, and still learning - so hopefully I will sort everything out to my satisfaction. -
Time Machine stalls on first backup of new iMac with 3TB Fusion Drive
I've got a brand new 27" iMac with latest patches up to OS X 10.9.1. I've loaded about 500GB of data onto this machine and wanted to make an intial Time Machine backup, so I connected a brand new 4TB Seagate Backup Plus USB 3.0 external hard drive, formatted the drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), pointed Time Machine at it, and let it go. It ran up to about 30GB before I walked away. When I came back maybe 8–10 hours later it was still stopped at about 30GB. I stopped it, and tried again. This time it just went a couple of GB before halting. I can hear the external drive stop spinning because it isn't being accessed.
I also have a new 2TB Western Digital My Passport USB 3.0 external drive, so I formatted that as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and tried setting it as the Time Machine drive instead. Again Time Machine gets a little way into the backup before stalling and proceeding no further. I think this rules out the drive, since both drives behave the same way.
I also have Super Duper installed on this machine, so I tried doing a full disk copy to the WD drive and this worked flawlessly. This suggests that nothing is wrong with the drives themselves, as does the successful check of all three disks with Disk Utility.
I've checked "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off" in Energy Saver. I've unchecked "Put hard disks to sleep when possible". I've checked "Enable Power Nap". I set Time Machine back to using the 4TB Seagate Drive and have been letting it run as long as it wants to. It got up to 13.32GB this morning before seeming to stall this morning. 10 hours later when I got from work it's still at 13.32 GB and it still says "About 7 hours remaining", just as it did at 8:30am.
I've read a bunch of discussions on here about issues like this, which is where I came up with some of the things I've tried. So far, nothing has worked. Can anyone suggest a working solution? It seems like the Time Machine software just isn't workinPondini's site is excellent, but didn't happen to cover this problem (or Mavericks in particular as of yet). But I did call AppleCare support as you suggested, rkaufman87, where I was quickly escalated since I'd already tried the things the first tier support people start with. After some investigation via screen sharing and inspection of my system log (which suggested the stall involved issues with the index) the main change we made was to clear out the Time Machine preference files and Spotlight's cache before rebooting and trying again. This time the backup completed without stalling, and has continued to work ever since. Thanks for encouraging me to call support!

What I have is a 5th generation IPOD with 5118 songs on it. I had a Dell computer that totally crashed and now I have an iMac.....1st one.
1. Is there a way to get the songs from my ipod to the new itunes in my iMac?
2. I do have some song (CD"S) purchased from iTunes that have not been uploaded to my ipod, can these be retrieved?
Any help will be apppreciated.

It's a program that transfers music from iPod to iTunes on a Mac.
As is Music Rescue.
Both of these should work with a Windows formatted iPod because Macs can read and write to FAT32 formatted drives.
All your music can be rescued using programs such as these.

Every time you download music from the iTunes store Apple have to pay the artist royalties, so the official stance from Apple is that purchases from the iTunes music store can only be downloaded one time. Then, you must pay again.
This is why you are prompted to back this music up to a cd or dvd.
Some people say that they've been allowed a re-download for various reasons when they've contacted Apple.
You can only ask but please be aware that Apple are not obligated to do this for you.

This is outright stealing Verizon has done NOTHING to address this problem. Nothing. I have been dealing with what passes for customer service for more than two weeks now and NOTHING has been done to fix the problem. I will not pay for this and the NY AG office says I can be released from my contract at no charge if Verizon does not fix the problem.
Doubtful Mr. Schneiderman or any of their staff would say that.
The NYS Attorney General does not handle individual cases against companies. They handle wide spread abuses.

His office may look into it. Your isolated case will just be added to the others. The Attorney General and his staff clearly state they do not give legal advice.
You may want to try the NYS Consumer Protection Board who oversee phone service scams.
The New York State Public Service Commission also has regulatory oversight on cellular and home telephone services.

Application crash w/new FW800 logic board
Hi;
Two days ago I switched out the logic board in my FW400 SP 1.25 MDD dual boot tower with a used, but supposedly OK, FW800 board. Booted normally. Everything was OK for the first day. Also to note, on the first day I applied the iTunes and QuickTime updates.
Second day, I began experiencing application crashes - first w/iTunes, then Safari and iPhoto. iTunes wouldn't play more than a minute or so of a tune or MP3 file, then crashes. Safari only crashes occasionally, same for iPhoto.
Last night I opened the case while the computer was asleep. Saw a red LED glowing on the board - between the RAM slot and the video card. Never opened the case before with the O.E. board in so I don't know if the red light is normal. Did the usual repair of permissions.
Originally I left the battery in that came with the used FW800. Last night switched that out with the one from my FW400 board. Haven't experienced any Safari crashes since or tried iTunes & iPhoto but I just performed the battery switch.
Also, wondered if the system software needed to be updated to recognize the FW800 board.
My plan is to upgrade further w/the DP 1.25. Don't need dual boot function. Plan to install internal Bluetooth and Airport extreme card but haven't yet. Have both. Is the antenna kit for the Bluetooth module available?
Any suggestions you can give is appreciated!May have answered part of my question. After installing the battery from my original FW400 board, no crashes. Ran iTunes, vids on Safari and scrolled through 1K pics in iPhoto, all at same time. CPU temp stayed at 105-106.
