First event, then project missing

I have search the web to find answers for this question, and it seems may people have similar problems, but I cannot find an answers. Hope somebody here can help.
After opening iMovie, I noticed one of my events was empty. The file was stil present in the iMovie event folder, but did not show in the event. I found a solution where I had to change something in the source code, I think the plist file. I saw there that it reffered to a .mov file, however the source was a .dv file. After changing it (with txteditor) and opening again now the project using the event (which was showing triangels befor) was now gone. Stil present in the folder, but not in iMovie itself.
I opened the package of the project and change the 'project' file in txteditor also, because this also reffered to the .mov file, not a .dv file. But I have not been able to repair either the event or the project.
Can somebody help?

Update: moving my event to an external harddrive (using iMovie) has solved the problem with the event. The event even shows (by underlining) which clips I used in the project. However the project still does not show, is missing.

  • Events and project thumbnails missing after moving to new computer

I just helped a friend to move to a new Mac. I have copied all her personal data to her new computer, so iMovie Events and Projects are present in her new Movie folder. However, after opening iMovie '08, all events and project thumbnails are missing. How could this be? Is there perhaps some library file that keeps track of all this that I need to copy as well? Is there a way to re-link iMovie with the events folder?

    Try this:
First, make sure you've quit out of iMovie. Then go to your Movies Folder > iMovie Events > and then into the folder of the even that's giving you trouble. Drag the folder "iMovie Thumbnails" to your trash. Then open the folder "iMovie Cache" and drag the file "Cache.plist" to the trash. Restart iMovie. It should rebuild the thumbnails, and by regenerating the .plist file, it should have the data it needs to reed the new thumbnails into iMovie.
It worked for me. Hopefully it will work for you too.

  • I open FCPX, see Events and Projects, then they disappear

    Here's what's going on:
    1. Was using macbook to edit, via an external drive (with events and projects folders on root level)
    2. Tried using Imac to edit, so I closed everything out,  Unmounted  drive and mounted it on iMac before opening Final Cut.
    3. Opened FXP X and found that one of the elements was simply not in any of the projects that used it. It is possible, I suppose, that During the creation of these elements I was using a clip stored not in the elements folder, so it was lost track of, but there's no red frames saying I've got detached Video.
    4. Tried opening the backup I'd made of events and project folders on my second external drive (events and projects folders also on root level.
    5. At first when FCP X opens, I see the projects and events that I want to see, including the missing event appearing in the project list thumbnail sorta timelines in the project browser, but within seconds, projects and events diappear, leaving FCP looking like there are no projects or events.  Clean Slate.
    6. I notice that the events and projects browsers at first show events and projects as being contained in the external drive. When all disappears, it seems to be because the external drive is no longer recognized or superseded by the Macintosh HD, which becomes the only HD shown in either browswer.
Not sure if the 1st issue (disappearing element) and the 2nd (disappearing events and projects before my eyes) are related.
    But at a loss.
    Thoughts?

Projects and events can disappear if they are exact copies, clones of other projects and events on other drives.

When I export slideshows the result is a file with only the first picture then a blank white screen with music. Apple bug or am I missing the obvious?

Usually when the phone shows just the white Apple logo, it indicates an issue with the system software that prevents the phone from finishing it's boot sequence. When this happens, you will need to restore the phone, which removes all data and replaces the system software with a fresh set.
Since the phone is not seen in iTunes when it's in this state, you will have to put it into DFU mode for iTunes to see it.
To put the phone in DFU mode:
    - make sure the phone is connected to a computer with the current version of iTunes on it.
    - hold the sleep/wake button and the home button simultaneously for 8 seconds.
    - let go of the sleep/wake button and continue pressing the home button. The iTunes screen will show a short progress bar then show a dialog box stating that an iPod was detected that is in recovery mode.
    -click OK
-click the Restore button in the middle of the iTunes page
After the restore the phone should be back up and running and you can sync your data back.

As you said folders are moved to external disk but have you checked it should be like this

external disk>Final Cut Events>your event folder.
    For project
external disk>Final Cut Projects>your project folder.

  • Updated to FCPX 10.1.4 - All projects missing. No "Updated Projects" in events.

    Greetings,
I updated OS X from 10.6 to Yosemite, which caused me to update FCPX to 10.1.4 .   I selected to update all events and projects.  I have no "updated projects" event listed in the library from the volume.  What went wrong, and how can I find my projects?
    Thanks in advance,

This is the screenshot of what the drive looked like before the upgrades (screenshot from Time Machine).  It is a seperate drive from the one with the OS and apps.  The projects were organized by category, as managed from within FCPX.

  • Trouble moving events or projects in iMovie 11 to ext. hard drive

I'm trying to move iMovie 11 events (or projects) to my external hard drive but keep getting this message:  This file could not be copied:  /Users/hopkinssm/Movies/iMovie Events.localized/Conducting_2_14/iMovie Thumbnails/clip-2013-02-14 09;37;20  (File not found).
I have done this in the past with no problem.  I've looked at the instructions again to make sure I was doing it right.  I know the files are on my hard drive because iMovie is able to access them and will allow me to view, edit, etc.

  • My external hard drive holding half my iMovie events and projects has crashed: how do I restore the events from another source?

My external hard drive holding half my iMovie events and projects has become corrupted.  I have now downloaded all the same files (from a backup in the cloud) to another hard drive - but iMovie is not "seeing" those events or movies in that external hard drive.  Q1 Is there a way of rectifying that?  (I.e. telling iMovie to point to the relevant folders or files on the new external hard drive)
Q2 I have a TimeMachine backup of the corrupted drive in another drive which i keep elsewhere.  Is it worth me attempting to restore from that backup? And if so where can I restore to (as the original external drive is corrupted) and how do i go about that restore process so that the events and projects re-appear?
thanks in advance for your help.  (I thought i would check re Q2 before embarking on the wrong method!)

When I right click on an image, then went to Go to Folder in Library, it pulls up the new external hard drive where I made the new link. When I try to work on the photos, the image still says file image is offline or missing. When I right click on the image to Show in Finder, it says the image could not be used because the original file could not be found. I eventually did click on their locate and found the image. When I linked those two together, a few minutes later ALL the "?" went missing and now IT WORKS!!!!
    That was weird!
Hope this helps someone else in my predicament.

  • How do you move events and projects between Libraries in iMove 10

    I am running OSX 10.9.5 (Mavericks) & iMovie 10.0.5.
I am trying to free up space on my internal 1TB hard drive and want to archive events and completed projects onto an external hard drive, which has a second iMove v10 Library on.  Under V9 of iMovie this function was easy, but I am struggling under V10.
What is the correct way to move events between libraries in iMovie.
When I attach the external drive containing my second iMovie Library, open it I can see all existing events stored (by move) under version 9 of iMovie.
Reading the Help (extract below) for this function it implies highlight the Event to move & then drag & drop into the second Library.
Shift+CMD with drag and drop onto the second library at the library name level will move Events that are not tied to a project, but for completed projects (Finalized under V9 or shared for example with iTunes in V10) it seems these can not be moved, the above function only copies them to the second library.
I have tried all different combinations of the Fn, Ctrl, Option CMD keys etc with and without SHIFT and the ones that work for this function only copy the event. I can not seem to get an event moved once attached to a project. File - Move Event will also move Events not tied to a completed project.
I have also tried copy to a second Library & then to delete the original events.  Again it appears you can not delete events tied to a Project.
What I have also not been able to find is how to move a finalised Project to another Library and then see if events attached to that project would then move.
I have been able to move Events not tied to a Project to the second Library, then create a new project within this Library.  This helps with all new projects & future import of Events. But does not help me free up current space by archiving.
    Extract from help
Copy or move projects, events, or clips between libraries or storage devices
Connect a storage device that contains the target library to your Mac, or copy the target library to your Mac.
Choose File > Open Library, and choose an option from the submenu. You can choose from recently opened libraries, locate an existing library on your Mac, or create a new library. The selected library is opened in the Libraries list, with the first event selected and its contents displayed in the browser.
In the Libraries list, select the event that contains the item you want to move or copy.
In the browser, select the item you want to move or copy.Tip:  To select multiple clips or projects in the same library, hold down the Command key as you click the items you want to select, or drag a selection rectangle around the items.
             Do one of the following:
To move items between events or libraries: Drag the clip or project to another event or library.
To copy items between events or libraries: Option-drag the clip or project to another event or library by first starting to drag and then holding down the Option key as you drag.
Would appreciate any help on this matter.
    Thanks
    Colroy

Further to my original post below; I have done further analysis and it seams that if you have events tied to a project (mine are all finalised) you can not move events between Libraries.  However, events that are not tied to a project can be moved. Either by Shift CMD or by using File- Move event.
What I have not been able to find is how to move a finalised Project to another Library and then see if events attached to that project would then move.
Copy works for events attached to a project. I have also tried copy to a second Library & then to delete the original events.  Again it appears you can not delete events tied to a Project.
Does anyone know how to archive (move) Projects and/or events in iMovie 10.0.05 under Mavericks 10.9.5 to a second library on an external drive.
    Thanks

  • FCP 10.1.1 messed up my Events and Projects...

I just updated FCP all the way from 10.0.7 to 10.1.1, but I ran into some major issue that's messing with my workflow. When I launched the new FCP 10.1.1, it asked me if I want to upgrade my Events and Projects folders into a single Library, I clicked Upgrade and it got that done. Then I was asked whether I want to preserve the old Events and Projects, fortunately, I chose to preserve it, and it moved the two folders into a new one now called 'Old Macintosh HD (something etc.). Later when I was trying to use the new version of FCP, something went horribly wrong, and it crashed. I tried relaunching FCP again, this time however, instead of loading the new Library it just created in my Movies folder, it created a new Library in the same folder named Untitled.
So I tried dragging and dropping the older library that contained all my Events and Projects onto the FCP icon on they dock, and it immediately crashed. I then try deleting the 'Untitled' library in my Movies folder to see if FCP would recognise that older Library it created before. No luck it just created another Untitlted library and ignored my old library, tried dragging and dropping the old library, crashed again.
Fortunately I chose to preserve the old folder, and even if I didn't I still have Time Machine to restore them. So now I'm going to try to re-import all my Events from the 'Original Media' folder inside of each individual Event, and redo all the copying and transcoding, etc. That is not a big deal, the big problem is, however, the Projects. I can't figure out how to put my Projects back in place now that the Library is closed off an inaccessible (to the best of my current knowledge). And even if I can get those Projects inside the Library, I still have to relink it back to the media which I am now importing in as new events and thus making it very difficult for FCP to see that they are actually suppose to be connected.
It would be IMMENSELY helpful if anyone can help me with this I still have a pretty big project to finish and I need to finish it preferably in the next week or so since I won't have access to my iMac and editing on my 5+ year old MBP wouldn't be feasible as it doesn't have enough extra storage to hold my 40+GB of clips.

First, take a look at these free videos about the FCP X new library model.
From your description - moving folders around and renaming them - it's not clear what your situation is currently.
I think it would be useful if you would post a screen shot of your Finder window that includes the first library that FCP created when you updated.
You can navigate to that library in the application  by choosing File>Open Library>Other>Locate. When you do what happens?

  • First contact with project nile.

    hey!
I've written a tiny javafx app which is a [screen ruler|http://www.superduper.org/personal/blog/wordpress/?p=111] which required quite some lines of code.
To shorten it i made my first contact with project nile and i'd like to sum up my experience.
First of all - i watched a few screencasts and it looked really promosing. I instantly installed and exported some graphics. So far so easy, but as soon as I wanted to use the .fx file that was created i got tons of "class .... " not found and "package loader.fxd...." not found. I wasted at least half and hour to figure out that i have to add the javafx-fx.jar file (how come this isn't mentioned in any screencast? or did just I miss this?). Ultimately I figured stuff out, but have a few things i don't like a lot and i think are worth mentioning.
#1 why does it create so many png files? wouldn't it be possible to just inline the binary data?
#2 why do i need that javafx-fxd.... jar file? i really don't want to include a 500k library on a 1k source project.
#3 why multiple files at all? i'd prefer if <my-export-name>.fx was the only file created and needed.
    ok, back to netbeans now...
    have a great day!

    Hello,
thanks for your feedback and sorry about installation problems. Regarding your questions:
#1 why does it create so many png files? wouldn't it be possible to just inline the binary data? The Nile release 1.0 which is planned for end of October will do exactly what you are asking for. Export will create one file, a kind of archive, that will contain the scene description and binary assets like fonts and images.
#2 why do i need that javafx-fxd.... jar file? i really don't want to include a 500k library on a 1k source project.Agreed. We try to make it smaller and eventually the Nile runtime should become part of JavaFX SDK.
#3 why multiple files at all? i'd prefer if <my-export-name>.fx was the only file created and needed. There is a significant distinction between the files <my-export-name>.fxd and <my-export-name>UI.fx. The fxd file contains graphic content and can be used alone as it is. It is preferred for a static content. However if the graphic is "live" and some interaction with code is required then the fx file is useful. We call it UI stub and it serves as an connection link between JavaFX script application logic and 'significant' visual elements. This stub also hides the complexity of the purely visual graphic elements and exposes only the nodes that are used from application logic to create dynamic behavior.

  • New administrators name not accessing FCP X Events and Projects

After signing in under a new administrators name, FCP X started working. The trouble now is I can't access my projects and events that are under the first administrators name. Please help.

I'm guessing the Projects and Events are in your Movies Folder on your System Drive?
You should move them to an External Hard Drive (running Events and Projects on the System drive overloads the Mac's system, so they should be on a different drive anyway). You will need to log in to the old account to move them.
If they're already on an external HD select the drive and press Cmd+i to see who has permission - if your new account isn't listed, check the 'ignore ownership on this volume' box.
If you can't move them from the system drive at the moment, click the padlock and give your password, then click the plus button to add your account.

  • Rename Events Breaks Projects

    Hello,
I have a bunch of movies that I imported into iMovie Library and I made a project with one of them. Today I renamed a few of my movies (events) inside my library and now when I open my project the videos are broken.
If I change the name of the movie back to the way it was, everything is ok but that's not what I want since I want to have my Library organized.
Any ideas how I can rename my events without breaking all my projects?

    wrong workflow..
Imagine the Project as a 'discription' +"use Event 5, disolve to Event 11, use Event 3..."+
when you change the Event's names AFTER creating the project (Event5 = Hollyday, Event 11 = Xmas, ...), that 'advice list' is nonsense, it cannot find the clips it's reflecting to ..
I would give the upside-down workflow a chance: FIRST rename Events, THEN edit Projects..
