First Exchange 2013 server in 2010 Deployment - 2010 edge is routing SOME inbound mail to new server where it fails.

I have a Barracuda filter receiving all inbound internet mail which delivers to the edge server (both in DMZ).  I have one 2010 edge server and one 2010 ht,cas, mailbox server.   I have added a 2013 server and started working
on configuring virtual directories.  This is a far as I have gotten. Goal is once new box is working to move all mailboxes to 2013 server and remove 2010 mail box server and keep Barracuda and 2010 edge server to pass mail to the 2013 box.
My issue is the edge server is already passing inbound internet mail to the new 2013 server.  I see the mail being accepted by the Barracuda and message tracking on the edge shows it as delivered to the new 2013 server, but mailbox
users never receive.
Is my solution to simply create a new send connector from the 2013 server to the 2010 box or could this be something else?
And why is it delivering to a server with now mailboxes on it yet?
Thank you for any help
dean

Hello Dean,
I understand that the message tracking log indicates the email delivered to Exchange 2013 server. Please check the message tracking log on both Exchange 2013 server and Exchange 2010 server.
How about the result? Have you created new 2013 mailbox and tested if it works?
As for the send connector, actually an intra-org send connector will be involved for internal mail flow within an organization. So there is no need to create another send connector.

  • First Exchange 2013 server in an Exchange 2010 SP3 organization

I've read the documentation that states to install Exchange 2013 with CU2 as the first Exchange 2013 server in an organization running Exchange 2010 SP3. Maybe I over-read this to mean "Exchange 2013 with at least CU2" (meaning to start with Exchange2013-x64-cu3.exe),
but when I installed the CU3 version I ended up with Standard rather than Enterprise. I need to run 2013 with Enterprise. I've looked around for an Enterprise version of Exchange2013-x64-cu3.exe but cannot find one.
How do I install Exchange 2013 Enterprise into my Exchange 2010 SP3 organization? Thank you.

    Please review

These (Exchange 2013 Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition)
licensing editions are defined by a product key. When you enter a valid license product key, the supported edition for the server is established. Product keys can be used for the same edition key swaps and upgrades only; they can't be used
for downgrades. You can use a valid product key to move from the evaluation version (Trial Edition) of Exchange 2013 to either Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition.
You can also use a valid product key to move from Standard Edition to Enterprise Edition.

  • Setup first Exchange 2013 with mixed mode exchange 2007/2010

my company has exchange 2007 hub and edge and exchange 2010. I'm planning to retire all exchange 2007 first follow migrate to exchange 2013. so I have few questions as below ?
    1. Do I need to unsubscribe hub 2007 from edge first before uninstall ? Currently we have 2 hubs (2007 and 2010). How can I remove hub 2007 from exchange edge server 2007 ?
    2. let say once my landscape just have exchange 2010, is it installing our first exchange 2013 will impact our mail flow ? my understand there is NO impact until we switch over 'mail IP' to CAS 2013. am I correct ?
    3. what is minimum requirement for co-exist with exchange 2013 for exchange 2010 ? is it enough with SP3 or I need to apply SP3 RU5 ? in deployment assistant, the requirement is SP3 RU5 but most article i read just mention SP3.
    thx.

    1.  I would remove the edge subscription for sure.  Then it isn't strictly necessary to uninstall Exchange Edge if you're just going to flatten the box anyway because that server isn't in Active Directory except through the Edge Subscription process.
I'm not sure what you're asking about "NO impact".
    2.  The coexistence requirements are clearly documented in TechNet.  I'll leave it to you to search it since you can do that just as well as I can.  That said, I would recommend that you go ahead and install the latest rollup on all your servers
    first.

  • First exchange 2013 server install in coexistence: Recreating arbitration mailboxes first

    Hi
We have exchange 2010 servers and I want to introduce the first exchange 2013 server.
Some of our arbitration mailboxes currently in 2010 have become corrupt and my initial exchange 2013 installation failed.
Question: Can I remove existing exchange 2010 arbitration mailboxes and recreate them using EXCHANGE 2013 "SETUP /PrepareAD"????????  Afterall there are no 2013 servers in the environment yet
I wonder if it will fail due to version incompatibilities
    Thanks

    Hi,
Agree with DJ Grijalva. Exchange 2013 /prepareAD will create the arbitration mailboxes for Exchange 2013. And the arbitration mailboxes between Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013 are different. So I recommend you use the 2010 /prepareAD to recreate the arbitration
    mailboxes for 2010.
Hope my clarification is helpful to you.

  • How to uninstall first exchange 2013 server

I have an existing exchange 2010 SP3 organization.  I am planning to install Exchange 2013 RTM on a production server
    to try it out.
Can I easily uninstall the exchange 2013 completely after I am finished ? Is it just a matter of control panel/ add remove programs?
    Anand_N

    Hi Anand,
Before you remove the first Exchange Server computer in the site, I would like to clarify the following thing:
If there are any users or public folders (non-site) homed on this Exchange Server computer, you must move the mailboxes to another server in the site, and you must replicate any public folders to other servers in the site, to ensure that you do not lose
    data.
    Hope it helps.

  • Exchange 2013 migration, disable SSLOffloading on 2010 CAS servers

We just going through the Exchange 2013 migration from Exchange 2010. I have one or two questions when following the Exchange deployment Assistant. We have HLB where the certificates and we enable SSLoffload on the CAS server. So we don't have public CA's
    on our CAS 2010 servers.
So on the documentation it says to run this command, were it will disable SSLOffloading and change to Basic authentication. Will my running outlook 2010 clients start getting certificate errors and  will they work as normal ?
    Get-ExchangeServer | Where {($_.AdminDisplayVersion -Like "Version 14*") -And ($_.ServerRole -Like "*ClientAccess*")} | Get-ClientAccessServer | Where {$_.OutlookAnywhereEnabled -Eq $False} | Enable-OutlookAnywhere -ClientAuthenticationMethod
Basic -SSLOffloading $False -ExternalHostName $Exchange2013HostName -IISAuthenticationMethods NTLM, Basic

We have OA enabled on all CAS 2010 servers with NTLM authentication and SSLoffloading box checked. We have also setup our CAS2013 and is running. My question above was that if I ran that command, Will I break anything since all my users
are still on Exchange 2010 mailboxes.
Then as I mentioned, that command will do nothing as OA is already enabled on CAS 10.  It would only make a change if CAS10 had OA disabled.
    Where {$_.OutlookAnywhereEnabled -Eq $False}
    Where {$_.OutlookAnywhereEnabled -Eq $False}

  • Applying CU4 for Exchange 2013 SP1 in a mixed 2010 / 2013 Environment

We're planning to apply Exchange 2013 SP1 CU in our mixed 2010 / 2013 environment. We'd also like to apply Exchange 2010 SP3 Rollup 5 as well. Are there any gotchas or best practices on what update to apply first?
    Orange County District Attorney

We are planning to update our 2013 from CU5 to CU8
    and 2010 SP3 to Rollup 9
I cant find any official documentation from MS concerning the upgrade path. Example.
Exchange 2013 first, then 2010. Like the above post outline.
I see 2010 being upgraded first thus bring version numbers closer together, reducing incompatibilities.
Do you still feel this is the appropriate install procedure?
    Have you done this?

  • Update from Exchange 2013 Cu2 to SP1 - Outlook 2010 with SP2 clients disconnected

    Hi,
we recently upgraded a standalone Exchange 2013 Server to SP1. Owa works fine, but all internal Outlook 2010 Clients (with SP2) get disconnected. Creating a new Profile, and testing the internal autodiscovery leeds to an Error 12030 (Connection reset) during
    the discovery process.
I already checked the Service Point, the discovery URLs, even recreated the autodiscover virtual Directory in iis. But nothing changed.
The self signed certificate, that was used before the update is further used, and well known to all Clients. As I tested, OWA is working well everywhere.
    Anyone some new ideas?
    Best regards
    Bernhard

    Hi,
How did you recreate outlook profile? Manually or Automatic?
If automatic failed, please try to recreate manually and check the result.
If manual failed, please refer to the following methods to troubleshoot the issue:
1>Try to open the following link and check the result:
     https://CASName/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
2>Try to use RCA to test outlook autodiscover and check the result.

  • Exchange 2013 Certificates for Hybrid Deployment Clarification

I have an Exchange 2013 servers (CAS and Mailbox on separate server) which I wanted to setup for Hybrid deployment. I already have a certificate acquired from 3rd party with 3 names (mail, autodiscover and owa). the certificate was installed in the
CAS server. As per the hybrid deployment documentation I need also to install a certificate in the mailbox server, questions:
    1. Can I use the same certificate for installation in the mailbox server?
    2. Can I also use the same certificate in the Hybrid Configuration wizard for the "certificate to use with securing the hybrid mail transport"?
    3. Do I need to include the primary smtp domain (xxxxx.com) in the certificate since current configuration points to the mail.xxx.com as the certificate common name?

    Hi,
Here are my answers you can refer to:
    1. It depends.
The certificate used for hybrid secure mail transport must be installed on all on-premises Exchange 2013 Mailbox and Client Access servers.
If you're configuring a hybrid deployment in an organization that has Exchange servers deployed in multiple Active Directory forests, you must use a separate third-party CA certificate for each Active Directory forest.
    2. Yes. But we recommend that you use a dedicated third-party certificate for any optional AD FS server, another certificate for the Exchange services for your hybrid deployment, and if needed, another certificate on your Exchange servers for other needed
    services or features.
    3. Yes. Here are the minimum suggested FQDNs that should be included on certificates: domain.com, autodiscover.domain.com, edge.domain.com
For more information, you can refer to the following article:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2013 eDiscovery - specific search query: looking for specific hyperlinks within e-mails content/body

    Dear all:
I am currently using the MS Exchange 2013 eDiscovery feature with the objective to identify which of my users have received emails containing specific hyperlinks (e.g. http://website1/webroot/file.zip, http://website2/webroot/file.zip, etc.) from an unknown
    sender.
To this end, I have been creating an eDiscovery on-hold case looking for a specific search criteria in all mailboxes.
As the search criteria, I have tried many options but was unable to obtain satisfying results: I know I am missing some e-mails from this specific search (I checked manually). I have notably tried the following search queries (with and without the body:
search operator, with and without double quotes, etc.)
    body:http://website1/* OR body:http://website2/*
    body:"http://website1/*" OR body:"http://website2/*"
    body:"website1*" OR body:"website2*"
    body:"*website1*" OR body:"*website2*"
When replaying these queries on my local Outlook client, everything works fine and I get results as expected.
However, when going through the ECP eDiscovery feature, I am missing some results.
Therefore, I am looking for any advice on what Exchange eDiscovery KQL query I should use to identify all emails containing, in their message body, a list of specific hyperlinks/URLs.
Many thanks in advance for your help.
    S.

Alas I do not know the answer to resolution via ECP and like you I have found it to be a bit maddening to use ECP for discovery tests Ive done when comparing results with our DigiScope product.  I know we can accomplish what your looking to do via Regular
Expression but again that's with a 3rd party tool.
One thought is I suppose it could be an indexing issue with the DB, so perhaps rebuilding the index would help?
If you do get it working I would love to know the resolution since many of my tests with ECP have left me yelling at the screen.  When its works its cool when not well...

  • Exchange 2013 backscatter issue - recipient validation without Edge

    Hello all,
It looks like there is a flaw by design in Exchange 2013 recipient validation, which in turn causes backscatter issues. I failed to find a way around it, maybe someone could help.
The Design: 2 x Exchange 2013 CAS + MBX servers (hardware NLB & DAG)
Version: Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 3 (CU3) (Version
    15.0 (Build 775.38)  )
    The issue:
Recipient validation has a flaw, which is documented (probably that should make it a "feature", but it doesn't):
In short - Recipient validation on Mailbox servers blocks message to all recipients, if at least one of them is non-existent.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/12181f43-7173-44dd-998a-9307f92ffc5d/exchange-2013-casmbx-recipient-validation-rejects-entire-message-if-any-of-recipients-are-invalid
As there is no way to explain the logic of blocking e-mails to valid recipients if at least one of them is invalid to a customer, the Recipient validation on Mailbox servers becomes unusable and is disabled.
But if the recipient validation is disabled, the Exchange design without Edge servers or other perimeter SMTP servers that could block e-mails to non-existent recipients, becomes vulnerable to backscatter SPAM attacks, since Exchange will always send out
    NDR to the FROM address.
According to the answer in the thread mentioned above, other antispam features should prevent it, but as always with antispam - it's not even close to 100% effective, as recipient validation would be. The result - an entry in backscatterer.org.
Question: How to prevent backscatter in Exchange 2013 without Edge servers, and without loosing valid e-mails due to recipient validation bug ("feature")?
    Thank You for Your help.
    Sincerely,
    Vince

  • Setup a simple sales funnel with exchange 2013 public folders and outlook 2010 -2013

BCM for Outlook is big and has too many choices. What we want is a combination of contacts and tasks within a public folder so we can see what others are doing. If possible I want
to make a connection between an contact and a task. The task should have some extra fields like branches responsible organization members status etc. Does anyone have a simple solution which is easy to implement in a small organization of 10 people?

    Hello,
First of all thank you for your answer. The Outlook version I'm using is 14.0.7113.5005 and the Exchange versuin is CU3. As I'm testing it on XP client it is probably the issue in the PS. I'll try it with Win7 client probably tomorrow. I wonder if there
exists any kind of workaround for XP clients.

  • How do I activate Office 2013 that I have deployed using ODT and App-V onto a Remote Desktop Server?

    I am setting up a demo Server 2012 R2 environment (1 DC server, 2 RDSH servers, 1 App-V server).
I have created an Office 2013 volume license App-V package using the latest Office Deployment Toolkit. I have deployed the App-V package to an RDS server and it all works fine. However, I am unable to activate Office 2013 using the MSDN Office 2013 retail
key because it tells me the product key is invalid for this version of Office. I've looked at the alternative of using the App-V Sequencer to create the Office 2013 package, but from what I've read this is not a Microsoft supported method.
Is there any way that I can activate Office 2013 (volume license on RDS) using the method I've outlined above, or is there any way of using the Office2013 download from MSDN such that it can be packaged by the ODT (or App-V Sequencer) for successful deployment
using App-V and activation using the retail Office 2013 product key on MSDN?

True, VL channel media can't be activated with MSDN Retail pkeys (that's what I was trying to get you to understand, I figured you would be attempting that, as so many people do :(
I've not attempted your scenario myself.
    It sounds like you aren't following the supported scenarios as (poorly) described by MS;
The way I read their guide, for an RDS scenario, you must use a VL key [either MAK or KMS] (since a subscription product+key can't be used on RDS):
    i.e.: <Product ID="ProPlusVolume">
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2772509
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2915745
    http://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn481351.aspxhttp://blogs.technet.com/b/office_resource_kit/archive/2013/12/02/announcing-app-v-5-0-sp2-support-for-office-2013-volume-licensing-editions.aspx
So, that all means that for RDS, you can't use anything other than VL "product" (in
the form of an ODT-generated output) with a VL pkey. So, for your RDS demo setup, you need to use real product and real pkeys.

  • How to make email client account setup automatically select inbound mail and smtp server.

I have the mail service successfully running on OS X Server 10.8.2.  I am able to send and receive email as well as setup email accounts on various email clients (iphone, ipad, mac, etc).  I notice that when I set up a new account that I have to specify both the inbound and smtp mail servers as well as specifying the user id for each.  I am using an SSL certificate that appears to be working.  The ports are selected (993/995 and 587) automatically and the default is to use SSL.
However, when I set up a Comcast account - (configured as "other") - I only have to enter Full name, email address and password - and from this it is able to determine that the incoming mail server is "mail.comcast.net" and outgoing smtp server is "smtp.comcast.net".  It also fills in the userid and password for both inbound and smtp servers - as well as the ports.  I have been trying to get this to work automatically when setting up accounts for my mail server - but have not been able to figure out how to do this - or if it is possible.
In googling - I have found that I can set up several different SRV records such as (_submission._tcp, _imap._tcp, _imaps._tcp, _pop3._tcp, _pop3s._tcp) and these are supposed to provide this functionality to email clients that are able to use the SRV records.  I have set these up externally at my registered domain provider - and I am able to query them via nslookup, dig and host.
Is Comcast using some other special method of providing the server names to the mail client setup - or am I doing something wrong - or is this a functionality that needs to be supported on the mail server side as well.  I am relatively new to mail servers and trying to work my way through the learning process.

Understand the functionality you are wanting, basically one can use Outlook / Exchange mail server as an example. It just happens.
As I understand in the background the DNS _SRV records point to a machine which serves up an XML file and that is the information which tells the client how to configure itself.
I did some research before posting my first reply and found that, in the Apple client situation, even when someone setup the the SRV records + the XML it didn't work seamlessly.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12949449#12949449
Here's some other links that give some more background.

    http://www.virtuworks.com/how-to-setup-outlook-autodiscovery-for-your-domain/
If you were going to persue it you will need to find out the format for the autodiscovery XML file. Also the XML file will have to be hosted on your server, you couldn't likely put it on the public DNS server.
