First Gen iPod wont take movies.

I try and upload movies to my 32gb 1st gen but after the sync they are not there.  The sync takes a while like they're trying to go on but when I start the iPod there are no movies.  The movies I am trying to upload are digital copies from Blurays and also some DVDs that I converted.  I have done it before with this iPod but now it isnt working.  Any suggestions?

  • Ipod shuffle first Gen. computer wont recognize!!

first gen. ipod shuffle trouble, it flashes green and orange lights whenever you hit a button, it won't reset and I can't restore b'cuz the computer won't recognize that it is pluged in... help!

    Hi capsfan8704,
I believe that error message is new to iTunes 7.3, but I'm pretty sure that it's cause is along the same lines as another error.
Have you seen the suggestions from these Knowledge Base articles?:

  • I have a first gen. ipod i turned it on and then it shut itself back off. Now wont go past the apple screen what happend?

My first gen.ipod shut off by itself and won't get past the first apple screen. When I turn it on the apple screen comes up then it shuts back off.

    You should do a DFU.
    Steps to DFU
Turn your device off. Press and hold the Power button until the Power slider appears. Slide it to the right to turn the device off. Wait for your device to completely power down before continuing.
    Plug into your Computer.
Press the Power button. Hold the Power button for 3 seconds.
Press the Home button. After the first 3 seconds, press and hold the Home button while continuing to hold the Power button. Do this for 10 seconds.
Release the Power button. After exactly 10 seconds of holding both buttons, release the Power button but continue holding the Home button. After a few seconds, a message will appear in iTunes letting you know that the device has been detected. The device’s screen will remain blank if done successfully.
Then you should restore it and put all your info back.
*Make sure you back it up before you do this*

  • Can not download any apps from app store with my first gen ipod touch

I am able to search for apps and maneuver around the app store, but i can't download anything. The button that says "FREE" or has the price of the app is unresponsive. There does not seem to be anything wrong with my screen since I'm able to use any apps I already have.
A google search turned up a couple of discussions from others that seem to indicate this is a recent issue.
I'm using a first gen ipod touch with the latest OS it can use.
Does anyone else have this problem?

For me the problem started on my IOS 3.1.3 Gen 1 iTouch sometime between my last purchase on 12/10 and a sync. So a sync didn't preceed it.   I discovered it when I tried to purchase an Audiobook. I can do podcasts, buy individual songs, but that's about it.  I can update apps so long as I do them all, although update has been like that for awhile. I can't buy apps (even free ones), audiobooks, or albums using the Touch directly.  I can't see many of the screen previews for apps and I can't review feedback on productcs either. I don't have any problems transfering purchases from my computer to my Touch using the iTunes app. I guess I eventually figured Apple might go here, but I sure haven't seen any announcement they were gong to do it now, so if it's intentional, it was sure done in an unfriednly way.  I'm a developer, so I understand having to move on, but my Gen 1 is no where near end of life, even if it can't run the latest IOS. I was an early adopter of the Touch, so I'm one of millions that helped IOS devices become popular.  I have newer IOS devices in the household under the same AppleID and another, and they work perfect.  But still use the Gen 1 daily. If this is the way going forward, I guess I'll have to buy on my computer or other devices and transfer to the Gen 1, but I'll sure miss being able to do it directly.  And I of course tried a factory reset and that didn't resolve it.  Given so many are having this issue, I'm pretty sure it's the older IOS or Gen 1 interacting with the Apple storefronts that's the issue. The question is, is it intentional by Apple, or Apple oversight with an update to the storefronts? If intential I can understand apps, but not sure about Music and Audiobooks other than possibly the older IOS is holding back new store features???

  • Error 8288 when upgrading my first gen Ipod Touch to IOS 3.1.

I am having some trouble trying to get IOS 3.1 on my first generation Ipod touch.  I have the latest Itunes, I do not have any dvd burning software like Anydvd that can interfere, and I've tried it on two different computers with no avail.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

    msoviolist, I opened a ticket via their so called "Express Lane" support page, I assume it'll take a couple of emails before they decide to credit you for the download. I would suggest linking to these two threads in the correspondence, this is what I included in the message;

  • My first gen ipod mini does no longer sync with itunes 11.0. It says "cannot write or read". Ist this the end?

My first gen ipod mini (that I use in my car) does no longer sync with itunes 11.0. It basically says "cannot write or read". Is this the "end of life" of that ipod?

You mean you can't get to the Summary pane?
If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar

  • Having problems restoring a first-gen iPod

First time posting but I am out of ideas and even Google has limits so I'm giving this board a try.
I have a first-gen iPod. I purchased it in October 2001 and it's in great physical condition. Only problem was that the battery would no longer hold a charge. No problem: I bought a new battery, installed it, and then I was good to go.
iPod powers on and my music library is right there as expected. I decide to get a bit creative. Since the music is technically paired with an iMac that I no longer own, I decide to restore it. Only problem is that the iPod will not allow me to restore. It did however allow me to begin the restore process, complete it, and then tell me to unplug and then replug to wrap up. The restore never worked though and now the iPod is useless.
It did occur to me that back in 2001, iPods would not work on PCs. I have a pretty new Dell and have tried to restore with it but I get error #1439.
The iPod screen shows a folder and a exclamation point which to me means it has no file system. It will work as a portable hard drive (lucky me).
    I doubt it is a hardware/HD error.
Any luck or ideas in getting an iPod to restore? I'm using a Mac Mini running 10.5. Specifically, if there is an old version of the iPod updater that has been proven to work, I'd love that information.
Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide.

    I doubt it is a hardware/HD error.
What makes you think that?  The 1439 error is often signs of hard disk damage.
What if you do a low level reformat of the iPod's HD using Disk Utility and then try restoring it in iTunes again?

  • IPod Classic 80G wont take movie rentals ???

Just downloaded three rental movies ok to my PC. They ar ein my library ok now but Classic 80g iPod did not synch them nor could i manually drop them anywhere. Any ideas ??? It claims lates revsw of iTunes and firmware. Everythung else synchs fine but this is my first rental movie try.

The 5th gen iPod "classic" was the first "video" iPod.  It's video capability is more limited, and supported video resolution is lower, typically only 320x240.  Even if the video is standard def (SD), and not HD, it is probably at least 640x480.
Also, current iTunes Store video content (such as TV shows and movies) uses DRM (copy protection).  The 5th gen iPod was designed before the iTunes Store started selling video content (as it does now); I don't think it supports the DRM technology.
If you have video content that is not DRM'd and plays in iTunes (such as video podcasts), you may be able to use the convert command in iTunes.  Select the item on a list in iTunes.  From the iTunes menu bar
File -> Create New Version -> Create iPod or iPhone Version
That version may play on your iPod, so iTunes will sync it.

  • I have a first gen ipod which is being recalled, and after going thru the process of registering my ipod I did not receive a barcode to send my old ipod back to apple with.  I wasn't sure if apple would send me some packaging to return the ipod.

I have a first generation ipod nano which is being recalled, and after going thru the registration process was meant to get a barcode to send the old nano back with but it was blank.  In the registration process it also mentioned about apple sending out packaging to return the old ipod.  Just wondering if anyone has been thru this process and can offer advice?

Yes they will send you a box with return label. I have been waiting for a month for a box. Just got off the phone with customer service and they said it would be another 3-4 weeks before I receive a box for replacement. Once I send it in it will take another 6 weeks to get the replacement after they receive it. I also hear it a 1st gen nano that will be the replacement.Apple says they were overwhelmed by the response to the recall.  Looks like they dropped the ball when they have to spend the money!

  • TS1702 how do I find apps for the Ipod version 3.1.3 for the Ipod touch in Itunes?! Is there no more apps for the first gen Ipod? I've tried and tried and googled and can't find a single app that will install on this old Ipod. Please help!

I recently had an Ipod first gen with Ios 3.1.3 fixed and am in need of finding games for my son to play, but I cannot for the life of me find any games or any apps that can be installed on this Ipod! every time I download something and try to install it, Itunes keeps telling me that the app requires a newer Ios! There isn't any new Ios version for this ipod that I can find. Itunes won't install any newer version of Ios, and no new apps can be found that can be installed. Please help me.

  • My first gen ipad wont rotate. The side button is on mute, the lock switch is on mute, the task bar at the bottom is not locked and i reset the all setting. still wont rotate.

My first generation Ipad wont rotate. I checked the switch next to the volume, In General "use slideswitch" is on "mute" and the task bar at the bottom the lock "orientation" symbol in not engaged. i have also reset all setting. still wont roate. also games that require movement of the ipad dont work. Any thoughts anyone?

Well then the screen definitely isn't locked.
i wonder of you close all pas in the task bar if that would help. Maybe you have an app that is causing the screen to stay locked. Try that and as if that does any good.
Double tap the home buttons and hold down on any icon until they all wiggle. Then start closing them all by tapping the minus signs. Tap the home button when you are done. Restart the iPad and then try again.
