First generation ipad not accepting passwords for wifi

I have a first generation ipad -- 2 weeks ago it stopped connecting to wifi -- I enter the wifi password and it says "Incorrect password" -- I am positive the password is correct.  I have restarted, restarted the router, changed the router channel, called tech for my cable router, soft re-boot, hard re-boot, forget this network, reset network settings, and I just completed a complete wipe out of the ipad to start over... same problem, it says "Incorrect password" -- I am beyond frustrated at this point, can someone please offer some insight to this issue?!  I have already gone through all the steps listed on previous posts, its like the wifi just stopped working.   It will recognize my network but will not accept the password.  all other devices in our home work with the same network and password.
Thanks for your help!!!!

When you say 'open up' - do you mean unlock it so a password is not required?

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • First generation iPad not updating to 5.0

i have a first generation iPad and it keeps saying no update available. currently running 4.2. any suggestions on how to get to 5.0? I am udpating using my Mac, running iTunes 10.5.
thank you in advance for any suggestions!
    Ankur

If 10.5 doesn't prompt you to download the update, and the Check For Updates button doesn't detect it, then you could try downloading the update outside of iTunes and then press and hold the command key on your Mac when clicking the Check For Updates button which should let you navigate to the downloaded file - this is the link for iOS 5.0.1 for the iPad 1

  • Why is First Generation iPad not connecting to MacBook Air?

We received our daughter's first generation iPad. Whenever I connect it to the new MacBook Air the iPad will keep beeping, and give a message that "this iPhone is not longer connected to itunes" The beeping continues.
It connects OK to my Macbook Pro, but I don't want to sync it with the MacBook Pro.
I re-installed iTunes on the MacBook Air and then plugged in the iPad and got the message that the USB port was being disconnected because there was too much power draw on that port. The only USB connection is the iPad.
Any ideas on what this could be? I'm using a newer cable, the iPad was 45% charged. Is there some limitation of the power draw on the MacBook Air? Is this older iPad drawing more power than the MacBook Air is capable of?

    - Macbook Air is plugged into external power
    - I cleaned the connections on the iPad and on the cable
    - Nothing changed, still get the USB power message and/or the message from iTunes that the device is no longer connected.

  • "Flash out of date" comes up, new install, and will not accept Password for install?  Next step?

"Flash out of date" comes up, i do a new install, the log-in and password windows pops up, I type in password and it will not accept.
I have changed password, confirmed password, rebooted several times, and it still will not re-insall new version.
    I am stuck.
    HELP!

This password prompt is presented by your operating system, and is intended to keep you from accidentally installing software.
If this is your personal machine and you don't need a password to log into the computer when it first starts up, you can probably leave the password blank and click OK to get past this prompt.  If this is your personal machine and your normal password isn't working, check to make sure that CAPS LOCK is off, and type the password carefully.
If this is your work machine and it's asking for an Administrator password, well, you'll need to have a conversation with your friendly IT person.
If you're still stumped, you may need to reset the password on your Mac:

  • App store will not accept password for updates but will for purchases.

    Please advise.

Thanks... I did try that.  To add to the mess, I just saw some update on my Macbook Air App Store and it did the same as on my iphone.  I would not accept my new password.
I then saw that my iphone had some updates.  I requested to update all.  It asked for my password and I entered it.  It downloaded some of the update but not others and also gave me the message that I put in the wrong password.
Still confused.  Thanks for your help.

  • Why isn't the first generation iPad not supported by iOS 6?

I am totally confused. Why isn't the first iPad supported in iOS 6?
iPad 1: Apple A4 1GHz processor and 256 mb RAM
iPod Touch 3G: 800 MHz processor (same as iPhone 3GS) and 256 mb RAM
iPhone 3GS: 800 MHz processor (underclocked to 600 i believe)

3GS is still sold officially and new. iPad first generation isn't. Android is even worse about things like this.
PLEASE don't branch this into twenty different threads, and keep it in the two that already exist.

  • File Vault not accepting password for Time Machine external HD

After installing OSX Lion on my wife's MB and encrypting her Time Machine backup (in the Time Machine control panel), my wife and I were both able to successfully mount our external drive using our computers (I have a MBP running Lion).
Recently my machine wouldn't load the external drive even though I had entered the correct password, but her machine would still load it fine.
Now neither of our machines will load the external drive - despite entering the correct password, File Vault doesn't accept it.
Are there any known issues with File Vault 2 encrypted external drives?
    Thanks

Are you absolutely sure you're entering the right password, and the caps-lock key is not down? If you are sure, then the drive may be failing. The first thing to do is make another backup to a different drive, if you don't already have one.

  • Keychain will NOT accept password for email

My wife had a problem w/ her email program, Entourage. After finally getting things squared away, noy she has to enter her password everytime. Keychain won't accept it. I check the box "save password" but it doesn't. Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Jack
    iMac, OS 10.5.8, etc

    Hi Jack,
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.
Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X...
If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain.

  • IChat will not accept password for yahoo second time around.

I wanted to get ride of my YIM program and just use iChat and Mail. I was able to get into both no problem. I signed out of iChat and went to sign back in like 5 minutes later but it's now telling me the login or password is incorrect. I know the password is right as I was able to sign in everywhere else with the same info. I tried restarting my computer but still no go. Help?????

    hi,
This may be an issue with multiple logins.
For Instance if yo happen to have a Google ID and Enable Talk on your google Accounts seting you can chat on various Google pages (iGoogle and Web Mail for 2)
You can also use the name in a Jabber able App like iChat.
However there are issues about priority if you are logged in via iChat and the web pages
You will notice if you are chatting that the focus changes from whichever was logged in first to the one that was logged in second.  (i.e. if you log in to the Google web Mail page after iChat during a chat the web mail page will get the IMs from your Buddy - you are not entirely kicked off in iChat but it is close)
    The Yahoo system maybe similar
Check with web Browser log in and Phone log ins if you can.
In fact make sure you are deliberately logged out of all log ins as the default for some is 2 weeks

  • Thunderbird not accepting passwords for established accounts

I tried to install Thunderbird as my email client, but every time I tried to enter a new account the username or password was deemed incorrect. These accounts have been active for years and the usernames and passwords are not incorrect. Something is wrong with the Thunderbird set-up procedure. I have googled this problem and find that many people have reported it, for many years. No one seems to have a solution. What is going on? No matter what I try, POP or IMAP, full email address or just the username before the @, Thunderbird cannot establish a connection to the server.

I enter my name, as I would like it to appear. Then my email address which is <myusername>@virginmedia.com and <my password> which is well known to me and works perfectly well via the mail website. T-bird then "searches its database" and comes up with some server settings which I do not recognise. Incoming should be < pop3.virginmedia.com > and outgoing should be < smtp.virginmedia.com > but T-bird finds < IMAP.googlemail.com > and < smtp.googlemail.com >. From now on, no matter what I do, whether I keep the found settings or change them to what I think they should be with manual config, Set up responds with "username or password invalid" and an "add security exception" box appears telling me that "this site attempts to identify itself with invalid information". I cannot get past this point in the account set up! Is that enough information? This is Thunderbird 31.0, I am running Windows 7 and my antivirus is Avast.

  • First generation does not recocnize USB for syncing or charging???

    Hi,
I have a 4GB 1st gen Nano. I plugged this into my computer to sync (USB). It didn't even give any sign what-so-ever that it was plugged into anything. I tried plugging it into a USB wall charger to charge. Same thing, no response at all. As a last resort I tried a Firewire wall charger and that worked.
It will charge with the firewire cable. I thought maybe it would sync with firewire, but apparently firewire is not supported on this model. I tried, it did not work.
    Please help!

Let it charge for 30 minutes (use the firewire cable, it will charge it) then Reset the iPod while it is connected to power. When it revives, fully charge it then use your USB cable to connect it to your computer. If the compute cannot see it, try a different USB docking cable.

    Kowhai wrote:
Lots of WIFI needs a username and password to get access. I guess you're lucky and yours is set up unsecured.
Normal secured WiFi requires only a password to get access. The password is used to encrypt traffic between your device and the WiFi access point. If whatever you are using requires a username as well then it is not simply normal secured WiFi. It might be a subscription WiFi service like GOGO, ATT, etc., or a service with authentication, i.e., college campus, etc. To help you out we need to know what you are using and what connection dialog you are being presented with. You don't have exactly the same problem as the original poster. He is having a problem entering a password into the password dialog that iOS presents when one tries to connect to a normal secured WiFi network. Could you clarify exactly which WiFi service you are using.
