First letter is missing whilst typing...

Hi There
Every now and again when i begin to type the first letter is missing...I know there must be a patch for this could someone point me in the right direction
It's so rritating
Best Wishes
Mr Totsy

I'm a slow typer so I usually don't have this problem. There are a lot of threads about it so it must be a problem for several folks. I guess if you start slow, the letter is less likely to mess up. Meanwhile, Apple may be working on it. -GDF

  • MBP missing first letter still missing after firmware upgrade

    hahahaha
I have been waiting for... this?
I still miss as many first letters intermittently, particularly on the first word in a field or after a delay...
Great, just great. I can't wait to re-sell this MBP like I do every year, to pay half of the cost of a new one... I'll just wait until something better comes up for keyboards, mind you.

Just wanted to say it's the same for me... -.-
Maybe it's a bit more rare after the firmware update, but it definitely happens.

  • First letter missing

When typing on the Macbook pro late 2013, 50% of the cases the first letter is missing, this primarily happens if I start to type after some pause. I guess it is as if the keyboard goes into some kind of sleep mode and the first type wakes it up but doesn't register the letter. For instance, the first word in the subject was "irst", I had to add the "F" to the beginning of the word. I have found similar issues reported on the internet but none resolved my issue. Am I the only one? is it a hardware problem? thank you

It is a known bug being investigated by engineering, I would guess for years???

  • Apple wireless keyboard misses first letter in some words

When I am typing, particularly in Word 2011, with my Apple Wireless Keyboard, it frequently does not type the first letter of a word.  I have searched and can find no resolution to this problem.  I have messed with Accessibility but that is all turned off.  The only other bluetooth device is my mouse.

    Hi,
Thanks for this. It isn't the computer though, as it will happen very quickly. For example I can type in a web address, then look up to read the web page for 20 seconds or so, then if I type again it will miss the first key stroke.
I am starting to get used to typing the first letter twice!
I can see that it is a widely reported issue with Apple Macs, but I can't find a fix for Windows. I am keen not to have to buy a new keyboard!

  • Missing first letter

I've just installed Safari 5.1 on a pc and am having problems with it missing the first letter typed. My searches have revealed that this was an issue a couple years back but I can't seem to find any newer threads with people having this problem.
    How can I fix it?

I have an Iphone, Ipad, and had a MacBook Air up until about a week ago when a buddy thought it needed a bath. Now I'm using my wifes PC and would like to use Safari. I don't need sarcasm, just a fix for this really annoying little bug.

  • Keyboard is missing the first letter I type

From time to time (several times in an hour), when I start typing on the keyboard of my brand new MacBook, the first character is missing.
Does anyone else have the same problem ?

Other's have noted the problem as well. There is a longer thread at:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3659519&#3659519
As far as I know, the problem is unresolved.

  • Something remembers my mail login name (in yahoo mail and other applications) so that as soon as the first letter is typed in the "name box" the rest of my login name is displayed. How can I stop it remembering this name?

I presume I have an autofill turned on somewhere as in a number of boxes I just type in the first letter and the remainder of stuff I have typed in the past is displayed. In some instances I do not want this information to be available to others. Please can someone tell me where this info is stored so I can delete some of it.

The Mail app on the iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch does have an option to clear previous recipients. You can learn to live with it.  But if you want to get rid of it, the only way to remove these cached email addresses from the Mail application is restoring the iPhone/iPod Touch as a new phone/iPod.  If you restore from backup, the cache is also restored.
This article shows you the screens you will see during the restore:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

  • The first letter often go missing

I have been using MB Black C2d for two months.
when I type, the first letters often go missing.
I thought I just need more time to get familiar with keyboard.
Not always, but the first letters still, sometimes go missing.
I have to hit backspace few times to re-type the missing first letter or re-type whole sentence again.
    It's really frustrating.
Note: Exact same problems posted under discussions > MacBook pro > using your MacBook Pro
I am not the only one!

    Hej to all of you!
I got my MacBook in the beginning of July 2007. A long time I didn't realized that there is a real problem with my keyboard. I often have the problem when I want to type big letters. I thought, maybe I write too fast and don't press the shift button correctly. Very often I have to delete and type again.
But to write big letters is not the only problem, the keyboard often doesn't count the first letter when I write something into safari, pages or other programs. I put my whole attention on the thing to find out a special case.
Here it is: It matters approximately 90 percent for sure when I fill in e.g a dictionary web page get a vocable and go on reading 2-3 minutes and want to type in the next word. Then the first letter is nearly always missing.
Hope someone how is responsible for reads my entry.

  • Typing, and nothing shows up except first letter

Often, when typing an address into safari,
The first letter I type shows in the address field, but subsequent letters do not, at least until after a long wait. The wait is so long, I sometimes don't know whether to start over or go do something else.

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Safari 7.0.2 (9537.74.9) crashes after typing first letter

This issue started about two days ago.  Whenever I enter the first letter into Safari it crahses, prompting me to reopen the browser.  It behaves normallly if i click on a bookmark.  I just cannot key in anything anymore.  It never behaved like this.  Any solution or suggestion is welcomed.  I really don't want to use Chrome ...
    Thanks
    Safari 7.0.2 (9537.74.9) on OS X 10.9.2, MacBook Air mid-2011

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Getting the autocomplete setting to work by typing the first letter of a word

Before I installed Firefox 5.0, I had made it so that whenever I visited a website that remembered an account/password of mine, this happened:
1.- It asked for my master password.
2.- After entering it, I would click on the form field and then type in the FIRST LETTER of the account.
3.- When entering that exact first letter, Firefox would suggest in a drop-down menu the account or accounts that started with that letter on that particular site, e.g.: say I have a Twitter account that is "koko999". If I went to twitter.com and entered the letter "k" in the form field (after entering the master password), Firefox would suggest the account "koko999" in the drop-down menu.
4.- After selecting the account that I desired from the drop-down menu, Firefox would automatically autocomplete the password.
5.- Then, if I closed Firefox, all my active accounts would close/sign out. So, if afterwards I opened Firefox, I would have to repeat from Step 1 if I wanted to use an account, e.g.: if I closed FF while having my Twitter account logged in, and then opened FF again, I would have to start from Step 1.
Now, I had this setting for a bunch of different websites. After installing Firefox 5.0, this configuration vanished or something. Now, when entering the master password, Firefox autocompletes EVERYTHING. Say, using the example from before, that I go to twitter.com. Firefox asks for the master password, I enter it and then the ID/password for the twitter account automatically fills in without me entering any letter in the form field. And I do not want Firefox to do that!
So, I'm asking for help. I know that what I what to do is not impossible, I just can't find the way to do it! I kinda need the exact steps. Thanks a lot!

    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Password_only_filled_after_entering_user_name
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/signon.autofillForms (false)
If you are in Private Browsing then Firefox wont fill the names and passwords automatically.
You can set the pref <b>browser.sessionstore.privacy_level</b> to 2 (never) or 1 (non-HTTPS, default in Firefox 3 versions) on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable saving cookies via session restore.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.sessionstore.privacy_level
You can also use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Active Logins" when you close Firefox.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
You can use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a pref more easily.

  • HT203477 Font inspector when creating titles, do you seriously have to scroll in order to go to the font instead of typing the first letter?

There has to be something wrong with the font inspector.. When I create a title and I want to change the font I press the pull-down menu for all my fonts. The default font if Helvetica and I press the letter F to find Futura. The problem is it doesnt matter wich letter on the keyboard I press cause it automaticly goes to the top and i have to scroll thru all my fonts to find the one I was looking for. There has to be something wrong. Im new to fcpx but there is no way I cant just press the first letter of the font im looking for in order to go to "that" section. I press f-key to go to the section of the fonts that starts with the letter F.
Im going mad even the turds on youtube that have tutorials for doing titels are scrolling thru all of their fonts to get to the one they want.. seriously..?
    Am I doing something wrong?

No you are not doing anything wrong.  Perhaps it is like this because those single keys are shortcuts that the app uses, I do not know tho. It doesn't bother me. I stopped drinking coffee, perhaps...
Perhaps someone has (or will be) creating a third party Plug-In for this. Get rich!
No, really... here is what you do. Go to the Final Cut Pro menu and use the "Provide Final Cut Feedback" feature. They'll fix it the way you want.
    Hope This Helps

  • Safari 8.0 doesn't recognize the first letter in forms

Safari 8.0 constantly misses the first letter when typing messages on Twitter/Facebook or Search box on Amazon.
For example, when I want type "Hello" only "ello" comes out, then I have to go back and fill in "H".
i've never had this problem until Yosemite upgrade.
anyone else is having the same problem?
    Thanks!

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Autofill tab then click Edit to the right of:  Other forms
If any websites are listed, click Remove All then click Done
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, a Safe Mode boot deletes some system caches that may help.
Top left corner of your screen click the  Apple   > Shut Down.
After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds, then press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click the Apple  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click:  Restart
    Then try Safari again.

  • Wireless Keyboard Skips First Letter on PC - Windows

    Hi,
I have an apple keyboard that I use with my ipad. I am also trying to use it with my PC running windows 7. It works well, however if I haven't typed for a short while, even for a minute or so; it does not recognice the first letter of the first word. It is really annoying, any clues as to how I can fix it?
    Thanks,
