First mac. Update issue.

Hello.
Just bought my first imac, 21.5".
First thin I did was update iTunes along with other things that I found in the section Update in the mac app store. It said that the competer needed to be restarted for the changes to applied, so I hit in restart. It's been almost 6 hours and it is restarting constantly, I see a white screen with the cursor, then it ask me for my password and then I see the mac app store open but all in white, then again the white screen. It is a process that happens every 2-3 minutes and it is driving me crazy.
Is it normal? Should I be worried?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It looks like the updates damaged OS X.
I recommend you to hold the Shift key while your Mac is starting up to start in safe mode and see if you can log in. If you can log in, visit these websites and download and install OS X 10.8.4 and the security update again:
http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1659
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1667
As you will have to restart after reinstalling 10.8.4, first try to start up in normal mode to see if the Mac works properly, and if not, start up in safe mode and reinstall the security update.
If it doesn't work, hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting up and reinstall Mountain Lion

  • Acrobat 9.2.0 (mac) update issues

    Trying to update from Acrobat 9.1.0 Pro to 9.2.0 on Mac OS 10.9.  Upon launching the updater, it asks which Acrobat application I want to update.  When I browse to the Acrobat Pro folder under "Applications", the Acrobat Pro app itself is grayed out so I cannot select it.  Screenshot is below.  Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

    Acrobat udpates sequentially. First install Acrobat 9.1.1, 9.1.2, 9.1.3 then you should be able to install 9.2.

  • 6500 Slide + Mac = Update Issues

    I'm wanting to update the firmware on my 6500 Slide, I'm on a Mac. I have BT, and the update section on my phone allows me to update using BT. I just can't find the darned software to download. The beta Mac software doesn't support this phone... LOL. Any help?
    Currently I'm on v 04.81.

    Hi 6500macman
    Unfortunately you would have to install Windows under BootCamp or use Parallels on your Mac to enable you to use Nokia Software Updater. Although there has been a menu option for updates over the air, in view of increasing size of firmware update and a reluctance for networks to embrace this feature it has never come to anything.

  • CS 5.5 (Mac) Update Issues

    I've been stuck on Dreamwever CS 5.5 Build 5366 (v 11.5.1.5366) for well over a year now and none of my other CS products (Photoshop, Flash Builder, Fireworks, Illustrator, etc.) have been updating.  It seems that when the updater updated itself (currently Adobe Application Manager is v 7.0.0.233), there have been no updates.  The only updates I am getting from Adobe are for Acrobat, which I think has it's own seperate updater?
    It cannot be possible that there were only 2-3 version pushes from the CS 5.5 launch.  Just not possible.  There are too many patches that have needed to happen since the launch.  I refuse to go to CC and just want my CS 5.5 to work properly and update itself with any of the patches out there.
    Can anyone assist?  I have also tried to find a phone number to call for Adobe support, but apparently they have taken those down?
    Much thanks in advance,
    Dan

    There have been no updates for CS5.5 since CS6 was launched in April of
    2012. If you're that sure there are updates you don't have then go to
    Adobe.com and click on downloads. You'll find all patches there.

  • Elements 12 for Mac update issue

    Updating Elements 12 (Photoshop Camera Raw 8.2)requires autoanalyzer to be shutdown yet the Elements preferences for media analysis are all deselected and the run menu option greyed out.
    Anyone have a resolution for this?

    with elements 12 closed, open your adobe creative cloud app (or adobe application manager) and update from there.
    if necessary restart your computer and update before opening elements 12.

  • My new iPod Classic will not sync with my new Mac Book. My iPhone 5 does, so does 2nd gen. iPod touch. Apple Store cannot figure it out. Tried different Classics on different Macs, same thing. iTunes update issue ?

    The iPod Classic I bought a month ago is not synching with my new Mac Book I bought 3 weeks ago. All the software was immediately updated. My iPhone 5 synchs fine, and so does my 2nd generaton iPod Touch. The original computer I synched all of these devices on was my HP latop. I bought my Mac and Classic to the Apple Store for a 'Genius Appt' and they could not figure out what the problem is. The connected my Classic to another computer and the same thing happens. It says device is not recognized. They also took other iPod Classics and connected them to my Mac and other Macs. The same thing was happening. They took notes and said it probably is an iTunes update issue.
    I can manually drag songs into my Classic but I lost all playlists because it cannot be backed up as well and they had to restore it. For now I am holding on to it but it's usless to me if I cannot use it the way I liked too. I used it for the gym and bike riding and my last iPod battery died after 6 years. A charge would last 45 miutes. I love the Classic for what I use it for but it's a $275 brick to me now. At least the renewed by receipt so I can get a full refund.
    Is anyone else seeing this issue ? The Apple Store employee said he saw a first generation iPad havng the same issue. As of now the Support Dest is unaware of this. As much as I love my new Mac I am disappointed I cannot sync my new Classic to it. Total bummer.
    Any help would be apprecated.

    By the way, I totally restored everything. It was ok. It starts to 'unrecognize' my iPod Classic when it comes to synching with iPhoto. After this happened all the menus disappeared from my iPod (music, Podcasts, movies synched fine). It seems to be a problem when synching with iPhoto. It was the same thing before.

    I purchased keynote, numbers, and pages when i bought my macbook air in late september. the december update will not load because it says i do not own the software and returns an error messgae 100. i have read manuals and looked over the web but i cannot figure out how to get this software update to identify that i do own these three pieces of software. they are installed and usable. any ideas would be appreciated before i call apple support.
    This is my first mac so i am still learning...
    thanks

    First, make sure you are logged into the App Store with the same AppleID that you used to purchase the apps.
    If that is not it, look in the App Store under Purchases. Are they there?
    If not, go into your account in App Store and click the link to show hidden purchases.
    If they are still not there, use the support link in the App Store.
    If they do show up, copy all the apps to an external drive, then remove them from your Mac. Go to the App Store, Purchases, and install from there.

  • Why is my Mac updating iPhoto 9.6 everyday since I updated it first on 10/17/2014?

    Why is my Mac updating iPhoto 9.6 everyday since I updated it first on 10/17/2014?

    What fixes have you tried?

  • Just did a Mac update yesterday for Yosemite and I can not open a picture in elements with out it crashing.  Spent over 4 hours with Mac and it came down to an Adobe Issue with the New Photo which is replacing the I photo. Elements does not recognize it,

    Does anyone know a direct number for adobe that will not cost you to just ask about their program which will not work with a new mac update!

    You can do that in iPhoto, too. Just go to the iphoto prefs>advanced, and set PSE as your external editor. Note that the actual editor is not the file at the top level of Applications>Adobe Photoshop Elements < version number >, but rather hidden away inside the Support Files folder:
    Then you just right the click the photo in iphoto and choose edit with external editor.
    If you have the new Photos app, you can't drag and drop, either.

  • 10.4.10 UPDATE ISSUES

    Hi, im writing this from Oaxaca, Mexico, my english isnt the better but i try to tell my problem the best that i can.
    After i get the 10.4.10 update my computer gets a rare behavior, 6 times i was see the black screen with the off/on button, this update suckssss, i never thougt to say this but i think very seriously to change to windows vista.
    Please i need a update what repairs this issues.

    Hi,
    i know what you're talkin about. After updating to 10.4.10 my MacBook Pro keeps throwing kernel-panics.
    This was my first mac and the first update i made and i'm not very amused about the problems i have.
    Hey Apple, any one out there? That's not I know what "quality" means.

  • Why do the mac updates take a ridiculously long time

    why do the mac updates take a ridiculously long time? 10 hours? this is ridiculous - my ISP is 40mbps

    Which updates were you trying to get? If you are going to a very busy web site or server, the connections could be extremely slow. But to wait so long invites troubles.
    If the machine is terribly slow, that should be an indication some maintenance or repair may be needed first. Some keyboard shortcuts can be used to check and attempt repair, and the problem likely is in the Mac.
    Everything from the amount of RAM installed, to the total capacity of the HDD (or SSD) vs free or unused space on the drive, is important to the function of the OS X. Or there may be an issue, if the OS X checks out OK, in the internet connection. If you use wireless mostly, check the connections by wire instead.
    Try to not get into a position where you end up using 'force quit' if the computer appears to freeze up. In the process of an update or upgrade, that's almost never a positive outcome.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Penryn Macs having issues?

    Okay,
    I have finally decided to move to Mac OS and buy a MacBook Pro.
    * iWork '08 preinstalled
    * Accessory Kit
    * MacBook Pro 15-inch Widescreen Display
    * 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    * 200GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
    * Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
    * SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
    * 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
    * Apple Remote
    * NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256MB
    I am extremely exited. But before i order, i was wondering if I should expect allot of problems? About 2 years ago, my friend bought a macbook and had to have it replaced 5 times. How have the Penryn macs been?
    This will l be my first Mac ever so I am hoping to have a good transition to the mac world:)
    Thanks,
    Mac Zac.

    Hi Zac.
    Let me be the first to say, welcome to the light side!
    Regarding the Penryn Macs: No, there are not so many issues that you should hold off buying one. If you browse the forums here you'll find lots of people running into problems. But remember that all the millions of people that DON'T have problems don't come here to tell you everything's working fine. For the vast majority of people, Macs work seamlessly, day in and day out.
    Of course, like all technology products, sometimes Macs have issues. They are made out of the same silicon and chips as other computers and, like those other computers, components can fail or go bad. That's just life. The good news is: it's rare.
    Likewise, Leopard is running extremely well for the vast majority of people. To be sure, there are a few small issues affecting small groups of people. Some folks are having wireless troubles, others are seeing some typing issues after a keyboard firmware update, for some folks iTunes is locking up while browsing cover flow. But, again, these issues don't appear to be too widespread and I would certainly not hold off buying a Mac because of them. You can bet that Apple engineers are all over the issues and they'll be resolved soon.
    To sum up: the state of the Mac world is fantastic. Like everything else in life, it's not perfect. But it's as close as you'll get with a computer! My advice is to pull the trigger and enjoy the switch! And I'll put my money where my mouth is as well: my $3,000 Penryn MacBook Pro arrives tomorrow morning.

  • Is there a consensus on how to solve security update issues?

    hi,
    i'm writing to you from a PPC G4 (AGP graphics) that will self-destruct by the time i switch off and (attempt) to re-start tomorrow. i will then need to do a re-install, just to see if i have gotten any replies (grinds teeth to the root). it will probably be my 8 th re-install in the past month. i just can'st takes no mores, Cap'n
    <exasperation>deep breath... each time i have done a clean install, zero-ed all data when erasing (7 times over, on this occasion), repaired permissions before and after each software update, and followed every advice i could find via google to pre-empt another "Error: underlying task reported failure on exit" and the inevitable hanging grey screen; i have earned nothing but another Disk Utility report of the same problem. my HD seems to be OK - Disk Utility and Disk Warrior both say it's "verified" by SMART (although i've read this could be no assurance...). it's 40 GB, nothing else installed but NetBarrier; nothing saved on it (just 3GB of OS).
    i've searched this forum over the last weekend and come across a diverse range of methods in resolving software update issues. i have tried downloading the security update and safari 3.2 directly from the site and bypassing Software Update- to no avail (but noticed that they are quite larger in MB than via Software Update??).
    the one suggestion the intrigued me was installing the update via Terminal. why would this be any different? the worst thing about this is that there is no universal way that'll work for all, just individual solutions for different macs??? could my problem be exacerbated by using the double layer (double the permissions to fix?) of a Panther OS with Tiger Upgrade disk?
    when i last tried to resolve the "error" with safe mode, fsck and DU Repair Disk/Permissions, which initially failed, i resorted to Disk Warrior, which re-built the directory, and "fixed" the HD. when i re-tried fsck it said the HD was "ok", but i still had the "error: underlying task..." on DU?
    is there an issue with the Security Update oo8 because it's PRIMARILY for 10.5 and not Tiger? why have some encountered this problem and others escaped any seeming conflicts ? is this problem also caused by JAVA updates (there are, after all, 4 updates!)
    more importantly, WHAT CAN I DOOOOOOOO?
    thank you

    looking at your suggestion to check /Library/Startup items in the concurrent thread ("Help needed after installing Security Update 2008-008"), i recalled that the only thing i have in this file system is 3 folders concerning Intego, NetBarrier and Virus Barrier. one of these contains the NetBarrier x4 daemon which has no image, just the apple "pencil, ruler, pen on paper" "A" image. i don't think it correctly downloaded, but this the case in every instance.
    i'm running netbarrier x4 10.4.5 updated and downloaded on installation. intego Support says that there should be nothing in my "Startup/Login items". i thought they meant Login items (users>login items) because when i take the folders out of my "/Library/Startup items", NetBarrier fails to "initialize".
    intego is now on newtbarrier x5, but they say x4 is fully compatible with Tiger???
    my baby maybe getting on, but it's strong enough, i just need to know what's bugging it!

  • My first Mac and so far I love it!

    I just bought a MacBook with OS 10.4.8, and so far I am absolutely besotted with it...I mean, as much as you can love something that's an inanimate object. I have had PCs since I got my very first computer when I started grad school, and I was generally satisfied with them...but when I recently had to call my PC manufacturer to come and install a new motherboard on a less-than-six month old computer...THEN wasted another four hours after that fighting with the antivirus people trying to get that issue resolved...WELL, enough was enough, and off to the Apple store I went.
    I'm still on a learning curve for OS as compared to Windows but I've been using Windows for so long I'm giving myself time to adjust. I'm also still working on getting my @X&*( wireless router to work...but that was a problem before I ever got the Mac.
    I love the size of my MacBook (so small! so light!) and have been busily downloading music, etc., for an upcoming flight to Seattle. It runs as fast as my desktop (without the pesky bootup problems and never ending battle with the security), I've had no problems with the sound, I bought the Microsoft OfficeMac (so there are some familiar landmarks). I tend to run a lot of applications at the same time when I'm on my computer, and so far I have had very few problems with stalling or freezing.
    So...PC to Mac converts, are there any "wish I'd known that with my first Mac" tips you can pass along?
    Thank you!
    A "happy" camper

  • "NO Symbol" on startup after Apple icon; had just ran an auto Mac Update-

    Hi! Okay, I'm freaking out. I have a late model G4, mirrored 2003 model. A Maxtor master drive taken out from my first gen G4 as my boot drive is installed, along with two slave drives internally. Yesterday, I was getting my freelance work loaded up when .Mac Update alerted me, and I clicked "yeah, go ahead." I went about my biz in the house; my screensaver went on. Long story short, I couldn't get the computer screen back on, to show me my login window, so I rebooted. That's when I freaked out. (all that was running at the time was Mail, Safari, Firefox and the updater asking to restart… maybe the OLD AOL app, I'm not sure.)
    Everything looked fine on startup until the nice grey apple turned into a NO symbol. After a few retries, I held down the option key to see what I'd get. I was offered my HD, but again I got the NO symbol. I then booted from TTP's eDrive. I didn't even see my HD to repair it. I then booted from Drive Genius No go. I tried Disk Warrior and got the same thing. (and no, booting from the OS X DVD did nothing; it saw nothing and Disk Utility saw nothing) Usually when I "lose" a drive, I can save my @ss. I'm having a coronary because I can't even see the drive with all these utils. I don't understand why I DO see it on the "option key" bootup. I'm not at all good with OS X, which is a big disappointment to me since I was able to fix anything prior… software and hardware. I have A LOT of stuff on this hard drive that won't boot up, and I'm freaking out, to put it lightly. I don't hear a hardware problem, though. It spins up, and I don't hear anything odd. I definitely do not hear a head crash. There's no clicks of death. Something else is going on that I'm just not able to figure out since I've fallen behind in my geekery since having a baby. (I will let him know of this one day. haha)
    HELP. I'm broke, and I'm literally freaking out. I'm posting this from my CUBE and original cinema screen system. A lot of my work is on one of the internals, and safe, but a huge amount of stuff is on my main drive and I'm just ready to commit myself or smash the G4 into 6 million pieces. Could it be the G4 and not the HD? Like I said, I see the drive as an option when I boot the mac holding down the option key: it says "spookie's macintosh HD OSX" — my main drive. I am BAFFLED. I don't understand why NOTHING sees the drive when I try to access it.
    help. please.

    The routine that shows the screen with an Icon for each bootable drive is the Startup Manager. It lives in your Mac's ROM, and when it shows an Icon for a drive, that tells you the drive answers and appears (after a very cursory check) to contain evidence of a System. The Icons for Mac OS X or Mac OS 9 are displayed as appropriate. Later in the boot up sequence, your Mac is finding problems that give you the prohibitory sign.
    You appear to have carried in a System on a drive from an older Mac, that may not contain all the drivers needed for the specific Hardware in a Mirrored Drive Doors model -- especially if the Install on it came from a Mac-specific CD originally.
    I suggest you try your "Full Retail" black with silver-white X Install CD again, (after you have reset the PRAM, as you reported) to see if it can now see your Hard drive. If you are not using a full retail CD/DVD, that may be the reason your drive is not seen. The gray CD from a different Mac will not contain the drivers needed for the ATA/100 Bus connectors (the rear drive pair). You MAY be able to have the drive recognized in the ATA/66 Bus (front connectors) as that Hardware is essentially the same as in many older G4 Macs.

  • PC will not update. Mac updated fine...

    When trying to update from the PC I get a message that states that the update server is down or may be offline, or the firewall settings could be wrong.
    Would that be MY firewall settings?
    The mac updated with no problem, but my PC will not update.
    Thanks

    Hi Wizwow,
    Its possible it could be your firewall settings. This document might help.
