First Macbook Pro upgrade ram

Hi,
I have the first macbook pro 17" that came out.
I have 2 gigs of ram in it at the moment, I was wondering if the 4GB ram will work with it? i.e. is it compatible and will it fit etc?

Not likely. Check the manual that came with the your MBP or if you don't have it go to the tech specs for prior generations of MBP's. in Apple support. I have a 2.16 core due MBP which I suspect is a generation newer than what you have. 2GB is the max that can be installed. At this point all you can upgrade is the hard drive.

A Mid 2010 MacBook Pro supports 16 GB of memory without any problem. Macs are "special" about memory because some brands work without any problem and others don't work. I'm about to buy my first MacBook pro and I have no experience on mac so I would be really thankfull if someone guides me to get an appropriate Notebook
Here are some imformations about what I want from a MacBook Pro:
1) I have a limited budget so the price can not go anywhere upper than 2,000 dollars
2) I'm a graphic designer working with photoshop, 3ds max and maya so I need strong CPU and VGA card
3) 15 inches and high resolution
4) Absolutly Lion OS
5) weight doesn't matter!
6) Ram doesn't matter cause I can upgrade it myself later when I got enogh money
7) Hard capacity doesn't matter (I can upgrade it later too)
8) It would be much better if it got HDMI port

Except for #8, you're talking about the new entry-level MacBook Pro for $1,799.00 (see at http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MD103LL/A). It's a little less expensive at Amazon and you won't have to pay tax on it until you file next year instead of up-front.
It will do everything you need and, yes, you can upgrade it yourself when you get more cash. In fact, if you're willing to spend another $160 (still under your $2K limit) you can go ahead and upgrade the RAM to 16 GB. Later, spend $400 and put in a 512GB SSD.

No. The MacBook Air's RAM isn't upgradable, except when configuring a model in the online Apple Store.

Comformation of Core Duo-based MacBook/Macbook Pro Upgrade 'N' path

In an attempt to shorten these threads concerning MacBook/Macbook Pro Upgrade 'N' path using Apple's (AirPort Extreme Upgrade Kit **NEW** Model BCM94321MC) Part #'s MA688Z/B or MA688Z/A (The only difference between the two part numbers appears to be that Part # MA688Z/B come with the new Airport Extreme Base Station installation CD which includes the 'n' enabler.
Both these cards have been proven to work in both MacBooks. While some have had trouble with the /A card it CLEARLY appears to be a preferences problem. (just repair the preferences prior to installing the card)
Both cards require the Program Pacifist to install the enabler.
Pacifist is a small program that opens up .pkg installer packages and lets you install individual files out of them. This is useful if you need to install just one file out of a package instead of the entire package (for example, if you deleted Sherlock and need to reinstall it, but not the whole operating system), if you experience bugs in Installer.app that mess up your symbolic links, or if you just like a little more control over the installation process.

Open the enabler trough pacifist and click install. The program will place the items where they should be.

The only correction I would make to this is, the stainless tension bars at the top left of the Airport card should not be screwed directly into the card itself, but into the single screw hole directly above the card on the left side with the tension arms angeled down toward the card thereby actually holding the card in place via the tension or presure exerted. The two additional screws that come with the replacement card are not needed if you had and original card in place. There should not be any screws directly holding the card in place. The tension springs arms are only there to hold the card flat. If left as in your photo there could be some inadvertant arcing of static elec. transmitted to the card. THIS only applies to the MacBook Pro as the MAcBook requires being attached by two screws!!!!

I have now tried both of the different suggestions of getting internal 802.11n on an original MacBook Pro described on this forum.
1.) Dell internal 1500 Broadcom pci mini express card (Card Model # BCM94321MC), and
2.) Apple Pro’s internal (AirPort Extreme Upgrade Kit **NEW** Model BCM94321MC) New Part # MA688Z/B*
As you can see, both cards contain the same model numbers and incidentally, both only have ‘TWO’ antenna post and fit into the same space the existing PCI mini ‘G’ airport card held. Each installation took less than 20 minutes. Of course the second one took less time than the first.
I ordered the Dell card ($38 ebay) prior to learning about the Apple Pro card (Apple Store $43), however, both cards worked, performed, connected and were recognized equally well by the new ‘N’ AEBS. Both needed Pacifist for installation of the ‘N’ Enabler. Both cards show connection speeds at 130 in a mixed g/n environment, which appears normal per other post. Both cards performed identically with the new AEBS, except for the speed, as the original Apple 802.11 a/b/g card they replaced.
I referred to both the http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/85.0.0.html and www.xlr8yourmac.com/ instructions for the disassembly of my MacBook Pro.

I was soooo careful when I performed this task. Is your MacBook Pro a 17"?
That's what mine is. I am sure that is the difference between the two. I have the 15.2" Service Manual and I see the bracket is completly different then the 17".

Welcome to Apple Support Communites and to the Mac, after a little time you will be flying!
Make sure if you have not done so yet to run software update to make sure you MBP is up to date, you can do this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left on your menu bar, and clicking on Software update.
One other thing that will help you when posting here is to make syre your profile is up to date/correct. You have in your profile as of now your MBP model and year which is freat, but you have for your operating system, iOS(mobile devces) 7.02, which would be for and iPhone, iPad, iPod. Your MacBook Pro operates on OSX (which in your case should be 10.8.5, you can find this info under the Apple logo, About this Mac) having this info available to anyone reading a question post is very helpful for them offer advice/sugesstions that may apply to your particular OSX, as well as eliminating confusion.

Is it true that the first MacBook Pro with a 13 inch screen is the mid 2009 generation?
Reason for the question is that I am considering buying a refurbished unit. However I would like to make sure that it is of the latest generation. Is there a reason why Apple does not list the generation in their refurbish store? Or did I miss it?

If your budget is unlimited, look at both the retina and non-retina and make a decision based on your preferences. If funds are tight, explore the options in the refurbished section. Unless you are dealing with courses that demand specific performance parameters, any one of these options will suffice.

Try to edit the size of the page using the sides of the page, or if you are desperate, force quit using command-Q. In full screen put your cursor on the top of the page, and the menu bar will appear. If it doesn't keep "pushing" it up until it does. Hope this helps!

Have you created another admin user? Go to system preferences click users and click the + to add a user; if you haven't already. Once you have another admin user other then the "test" user make sure you're signed out of the test user account. Sign in with the alternate ADMIN USER that you just created or had created already and go back to SYSTEM PREFERENCES and click the same USERS icon near the bottom. Now select the TEST user and click the - sign. This should prompt you if your sure you want to delete the user account. And your done.
New User created and Test User deleted... I hope this helps.
