First name last name sort order-how to correct on iphone

hello all.
i have mobile me (hate that name) set correctly with the sort order of first name first in my extensive contacts list and the same in my address book on my main mac, yet my new iphone stubbornly refuses to order the contacts correctly, instead listing names by second name. as a result i am finding it almost impossible to use effectively as i know very few people by their last names.
help!

I go to Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendar. Then scroll down to bottom choices of Contacts. Set both Sort order and Display to Last, First. It worked for me.

I don't have any problem with my system. My guess is there is something there you aren't quite getting. I'd recommend a visit to your Apple Store, AASP or to contact AppleCare so they can coach you personally.
You can also play with the Address Book Preferences. However to see how changing a Preference affects the Address Book drag the Preferences window off of the Address Book so you can see both the Preferences window and Address Book Windows. Then toggle a Preference and you will see it instantly changes in the Address Book.

Sort Contacts by [First Name, Last Name] on Phone

I currently have all of my contacts in Outlook saved and "Filed As" First Name, Last Name. When I go to sync with the phone (through iTunes), the phone still shows all my contacts sorted as Last Name, First Name. I have tried deleting my contacts completely several times to no avail. I am so used to searching by first name first. Can someone please help?
BTW, I did try searching the forum first. Most threads discuss the use of Address Book, which seems to provide a solution. I have not found any solutions to this problem using Outlook though.

On the iPhone, go into settings/Mail Contacts Calendar and choose sort order under "contacts" as "first, last".

To add to what BenB advised, make sure you have proof of purchase when you call Apple for a replacement serial number.
For future reference, it is a good idea to keep all software serial numbers in a database or text document. Considering the cost of the software, keeping a list of serial numbers can come in very handy at times like this.

How to show the First and Last name of the user instead of user name

Gurus,
We have the full email id of the user as the portal user name. Right now we are using the "Item Attributes - Current User" to show the user name. We don't want to show this anymore. We would like to show the First and Last name of the user on the Portal page. How can i do this. Please post a reply if you have some idea about it.

So if the solution recommended by Ralph is not working then the other option is this:
Please make sure that the emails work correctly when signed into, on a computer
Then delete the account off your phone - you will not lose the emails
Reset the phone
Re add the account back in and see if that helps the issue

How do I bulk edit contact's nicknames to first and last names?

i imported contacts to the contacts app and they all say "NoName".
i click on one of them and the first and last name fields are empty but the nickname field has the first and last name in it.
how can i bulk edit 1120 contacts to change the full nickname to a first and last name?
ex: "First" ~ "Last" ~ "Nickname"
       "Blank" ~ "Blank" ~ "John Smith"

I have a parameter that is called {? Employee ID}. What I want to do is display the first and last name based on the employee ID value entered in {? Employee ID} in the page header of the report. Right now, when I put the following formula in the page header only some pages get the right result while other pages dont....
if table.employeeid = {? Employee ID} then
table.firstname" "table.lastname
It appears as though if the first record in the details section on the beginning of each page happens to be the employee under {? Employee ID} then it prints it correctly, if it isn't I get a null value in the page header.
Anyone have any ideas?

as it is shown in addresschange.jsp file. It doesn't work.
Any ideas about addressFormular?

Lack of First and Last Name Reversal in Address Book

I just got a new iMac and transferred the contents of my old eMac running on OS 10.3---(latest) using the Mac transfer system. Problem: in the address book most of the cards do not respond to the Preference setting for First or Last name first. Some do, they toggle back and forth as I change the setting, but most stay unchanged with the Last name first. All respond properly to changes in the sort setting.

I know the phones only have a single Name field, but there is such an option to change the sort order and display! Did you look in the menu I listed?
I've just tried it with 5 Sony Ericsson phones I have with me here (W610, K800, K510, Z610 & W200) and that I use iSync with on a daily basis and the option is there and it works perfectly.
It's in the W810 manual on Page 62:

I am using adobe elements organizer 12- How do I tag or sort a large number of portrait photos so it is searchable by first and last name of subject? do i make separate tags for first and last names? is there a better way of doing this?

Creating separate tags for first and last name, possibly also by birth name and nickname is the best solution in my opinion. Finally, you create less different keywords, since people share first and last names.
You can also enter the full name in a caption and use the advanced search menu for captions 'containing' a text string. That works even if the caption contains several names for several persons in the picture.
