First Name, Surname + Surname, Firstname inconsist...

In Contacts I view people by firstname, surname. However in my Messages inbox it displays them by surname, firstname. In Contacts the order is changeable but in Messages it isn't. Am I stuck with seeing the names of text senders by surname, firstname or is there an option to change it? Why isn't it consistent?

We had this discussion on another thread a few days ago. Yes, what you have just noticed is true and there was nothing the few of us could do to change it and we know it happens to the E51 and N73. I think we had exhausted all the settings you can change but none worked. Let us know if you figure our a fix. Thanks.

  • View of Contacts surname, first name NOT first name, surname

Required is the view of contacts with surname, first name.
This is impossible to adjust and a No-Go for business.

While that is currently not possible in the contact listing view, it could be updated in a future upgrade. I hope it will be.

  • List of first and surnames

    Hi there,
Does anyone know where I could find a list ( 300+) of first and surnames of non famous people? It can be in xls, txt or mdb format. Preferably in the format <first name surname>.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ciara

Just get a list of famous people and mix up their first and last names, then they'll be infamous. Who knows Kevin Roberts and Julia Bacon?

  • IPhone inbox - my name appears as SURNAME FIRSTNAME not in lowercase

Hello Applers! (Is that what we're called?)
Just recently setup my (UK) Ntlworld.com (now owned by VirginMedia) account on my iPhone 3GS - I had problems trying to set the account up through IMAP settings directly and saw all sorts of issues on forums saying people had struggled.
I then discovered a Facebook help page explaing Microsoft Exchange and setting up a Ntlworld.com account that way!
BINGO! It all works - problem is - and a minor issue really but it bugs me - my name appears as SURNAME FIRSTNAME in my inbox when I send emails to myself or others.
Everyone else's email appears as Firstname Surname - all nice and tidy in lowercase with capital letters for the first letter of their firstname and surname.
Does anyone know how I can get my name to appear as Firstname Surname when sending emails from my iPhone?
I've been in to see the staff at the Apple store and we exhausted (we think) the options on the phone - and, I've tried to change/checked my settings on Gmail (webmail version). When I send from the webmail based gmail my emails arrive as Firstname Surname - but when I send from my iPhone they arrive as SURNAME FIRSTNAME - all in capitals.
I'm not using Microsoft Outlook - I use Thunderbird and that's not synced with iTunes/iPhone as of now.
    Any ideas?

Now SOLVED as you can setup a UK @ntlworld.com email address via 'other' option on iPhone / iPad Mail set up. You no longer need to use Microsoft Exchange

  • I have transferred my iTunes library from windows 7 pc to new windows 8 pc. Music was in alphabetical order by surname but new pc has some by surname some by first name and some not in alphabetical order. How can I get sorted?

Question  Hi - I've transferred my iTunes library from windows 7 pc to one with windows 8. My library was in alphabetical order by surname but after transfer is now some by surname, some by first name, and some not in alphabetical order. How do I sort this out and also make sure that new downloads list by surname alphabetically?

Sorting in iTunes is often controlled by selecting different column headings. The sort order for any given column may be further modified by a sort value, e.g. Sort Artist affects the sort order of Artist. If you transferred the library properly all of the metadata should have remained intract and you simply need to select the a column that sorts as you want. If you had to import the library then there is the potential for tagging effects that could mean metadata entered previously didn't import with the media. Note that iTunes has no mechanism for automatically deciding which values are in <Forename> <Surname> order and could therefore be sorted as <Surname> <Forename>. The only automatic process drops leading articles (a/an/the) so that "The Doors" sort under D as "Doors".

  • Surname, first name in GAL

    Dear beekeepers,
Outlook has an option to present all entries in the address book formatted like "surname, first name".
Can the GAL (global address list) be configured accordingly?
    Regards, Thomas

    David,
also found nothing regarding gal displayname configuration in the
    admin guide.
Regarding searches in Zimbra gal: we also have an SR open, where we
    describe the problem as follows:
finding users in the gal via zimbra works, but if the user wants to
search for surname, he needs to wildcard it using the percentage
    sign.
    Here is a gal entry:
beehive@garamond:~> beectl list_users --email [email protected]
    Display Record: 1
    ===========================================
    User Identifier: user=ulasch
    Family Name: Ulasch
    Given Name: Gerda
    Addresses
    =============
    Type: BUSINESS_1
    Value: im:[email protected]
    Type: BUSINESS_1
    Value: mailto:[email protected]
    Parent Identifier: enpr=emb
When a Zimbra user wants to adress this user using the surname
(Ulasch) in the gal, he needs to enter "%ulasch" in the search
    dialogue.
This is sub-optimal in terms of usability: a substring search
should be default. At least the wildcard operator should be an
    asterisk.

  • E71 SMS displaying surname + first name

i just notice with my new E71 with latest fw.
when i write a sms from the start and sending it to a contact in my phone book it appears in the sent msgbox displaying first name then surname eg JOHN SMITH
    but
when i reply to a sms or whatever it appears in the sent box surname then first name eg SMITH JOHN.
**bleep** is this normal or just how nokia is ??
its kinder anoying when i write a new to someone i just replied back..
    fix ??

I'm getting the First Name First and then last name , my phone book settings are also the same , maybe that's the reason as it does pick the name from phone book and will display as it's given . Try changing phone book settings , it may not effect the older SMS but newer ones may come fixed

  • 9300/9300i - Odd surname, firstname exception

Hi, Firstly, I gather (and reluctantly accept) that there is no way to change the Surname, Firstname appearance on the contacts list (other than to change the surname to their full name). However, can't work this one out: when I receive text messages, the inbox lists the names in the Surname, Firstname format, except for one, which showed the name as Firstname Surname (no comma). In the normal contacts list on the front screen, his name appears as Surname, Firstname. Can anyone tell me why the Inbox occasionally shows the name in a different format? And, for bonus points, does anyone know if a firmware upgrade will expand the software so as to include the option of changing how contacts are displayed in the front screen? Thank you in advance!

  • I have my contacts sorted and displayed last name, first name - however when I access my contact list via message they display first name, last name - WHY????

  • Filing contacts, first name and last name

i am trying to file my contacts using first name and surname, is there any way to do that

On your Mac in Contacts: Contacts Menu > Preferences > General

  • Sms, name displayed as first name first?

i have my address book set to display first name first but when i get a text it is displayed with the last name first? can this be changed? I'll be damned if i can find how to do it?
PS. this is on a 3230
    Nexu 5

I'm pretty sure there's no way of changing this, though you could edit all your contacts and swap the First Names and Surnames over...
Why is this a big deal though? I agree it would be nice to be able to have the choice about how it's displayed, but you can still see from whom they've been sent, so it shouldn't be a big problem.
Email [email protected] and suggest it for future models... it may even be included in a future Firmware update if they think it's a popular enough suggestion.

  • ICloud Contacts duplicates first name

I list my family and close friends by their first names only in my Contacts, leaving the surname field blank.
Contacts has now started to duplicate their first names into the surname field, so that my wife's entry reads "Fiona Fiona" and my daughter's entry is "Sophie Sophie".
No matter how many times I change the entry, either on my iPhone or on my Air, the first name keeps appearing in the surname field too.
Is Contacts unable to deal with entries containing only a first name?
    Has anyone else experienced this?

I fixed my problem with it.  I went to my Mac and it was in the Mail app.
    Open Mail
From the menu bar select Window
    Select Previous Recipients
I found the culprit in there.  I don't know how the name got to be the way it was in the first place but I took it out of there and it fixed it.  It stopped messing up my contacts.
    Hope this helps.

  • I want to change the infotype 0002 field position(first name & lasname)

    Dear Freinds,
I have requirement where i have to change the positions of the first name and last name , as pe standard we will see is
the lastname under that field we will se the first name . As per the user he wanted first name and then last name . I have read in sap help that it says the table T522N is the place. But before using i wanted to can i change or is there any method where i can do.
i have changed the name2 as middle name by going to cmod and changing the text label. Here it dint asked me any access key.
similary for chaning the position of the two fields can i do so please let me know if any body has done this.
    regards
    divya.

    Hi Divya,
You can't change the position of the fields in standard SAP screens - PA30/20.
This would be repair and you need to get access key to change the 2000 screen of module pool MP000200.
T522N is used to change the name format in reports, etc. (Firstname Lastname or Lastname Firstname) It has nothing to do with the field positions in the screen of PA20/30.

    Dilek
