First problems with Zen

Hi All,
One week ago I got my Zen V plus 4GB mp3player and I was very happy with it!
I already read that this model has a perfect sound quality, that's why I bought this player, but when I listened to it for the first time I was a bit astonished. The quality wasn't that good as I thought it would be. I'm sure the creative ear bugs have something to do with it, for sure, but I used a minidisc before this and the difference is big.
Anyway, that's not the thing I want to tell you all. What concerns me now is the 'cracking' I hear in my music when I use the Zen V plus. With cracking I mean the 'dropouts' I hear when I cange a track (forward) or I go back (reward) to a previous song or I just pauze the song. Also while changing the preset of my EQ, everytime I change the number of a certain freq., I hear a 'dropout'. I made a little sound file, recorded from the player (I connected the headphone jack to the line in of my pc), of these cracks when I play songs on my mp3. Somewhere about 8 seconds of the sound file, you can hear it very good, when I pauze the song.
http://users.pandora.be/Aeropolis/sample.mp3
A second sample I made to show you the dropouts I get while changing the Equalizer presets. I chosed the song of Pink Floyd (Great gig in the sky) which has no dropouts at all. The volume of the player is 22, bassboost on. Where the bass guitar starts playing, you can hear the drops the best.
http://users.pandora.be/Aeropolis/sample2.mp3
How can I resolve this? Could a firmware update resolve this? If yes, then I suppose creative will have to start finding a new firmware for this player, since I already downloaded the newest version on my Zen V plus.
I know some other people who have the same issue too.
Thank you very much, hopefully this problem can be solved.Message Edited by Alex_R on -04-200605:36 PM

hi,
first of all, thank you for your reply...
I tried other earphones, and as you can hear, on the computer (headphone jack linked with lin in) you can hear the cracks too, so I don't think the earphones are bad.
I experimented with all the EQ freq's, also with the EQ on/off, with the bassboost on/off...it's like the headphone jack isn't connected very well inside the player.
Anyway, I'm going to buy new headphones, maybe something changes then or I don't hear the cracks very loud because of the lone tones produced by the newer headphones.Message Edited by Alex_R on -06-20062:42 PM

  • Random Problems with Zen Micro? Try a diff. USB cable

I know people have mentioned this in other posts, but I thought I would reiterate it here. Many people seem to be complaining that their player is not recognized, or only sometimes recognized, or recognized by Windows (as a USB device) but not by their Creative software, or songs won't transfer, etc. Well, I had some similar problems which ALL went away when I started using a different USB cable - the one that shipped with the Micro just doesn't seem to work consistently.
So, if you are having problems with your player that you can't seem to solve any other way, you may want to try a different USB cable. It worked for me.
Hope this helps - I am (now) loving my new Micro!

I tried a different USB cable also, I thought that it would help, but I still got the same problems. I can almost guarantee that although you think you may have solved your issues, they WILL come back.
I've also been experiencing the "Player Not Connected" problem with my Zen Micro.
I've also had the problem where the Zen Micro just freezes in the "Docked" screen even after it has been disconnected from the PC
I've noticed that these are common problems with Zen Micros with the new firmware (.0.03)
My old Zen Micro with the old, original firmware did NOT have this connectivity problem
Creative should investigate these issues associated with this new firmware, or maybe even making the old firmware available for download to see if this really is the source of all these problems.

  • Problems With Zen Touch Turn

After just recently purchasing a Zen Touch in December 2005, I already have problems with it.
I have never dropped it or hit it. I plugged it in to re-charge one day after using it and when it was done charging I turned it on, used it for 5 minutes then set it down. The next morning I went to turn it on to use it, and it wouldn't turn on. The blue light at the side on the power button was on, but the screen just wouldn't show up. Now the blue light won't turn off. I have read about these problems with Zen Micro freezing up and read about Zen Touch freezing up back in 2004 when it was released. I have phoned the number but couldn't seem to get through. Should I consider taking it in? Or is there an easier way?

Have you tried resetting it's Connect to the mains adapter and press the tiny recessed button on the side of the player. Don't use anything sharp to press it, a bent paper clip is best.

  • Problem with Zen Xt

I purchased a refurbished Zen Xtra back in May and had the player lock up on several occasions. It would eventually resolve if I let the batteries drain and then recharge. The last time it happened I came to these forums and learned how to enter recovery mode. I tried to do a firmware update which failed and now the player will only boot into recovery mode. When I attempt to do the firmware update I get the message player not connected. I can see the player connected in windows and can actuall browse the HD which is obviously now empty. How can this be resolved?

Re: Problem with ZEN MX >FYes, it's true. Creative Centrale is full of **bleep**.:robotmad: You can use it only to one thing. To convert films from your computer to their stupid format called "cmv". But even with this it's stil the same problem. This is crap, because sometimes you can do it, but sometimes not. Beside of this Creative Centrale doesn't have any good functions. For further users - don't install Creative Centrale! You will have more free space and do all things (without moving films to watch on your player) just from your computer and not this **bleep**.

  • Power and Sync problems with Zen Vision:M

)Power and Sync problems with Zen Vision:MX Lately, my Vision M is having problems that when I plug it into the USB port on any PC to charge it, it lights up for a moment and then goes blank.
When I unplug it and reseat the usb cable, nothing happens. When I try to turn it on, it's dead. This happens even though it's not fully depleted of battery energy.
Pressing the reset button does not do anything. The only thing that I've found that will work is to open it up and unplug the battery. But even that is starting to not work.
This doesn't happen every time I use it, but it is happening quite a bit. It's gotten to the point today that I can't even charge the battery at all.
Any suggestions? I don't think it's the battery, as it does charge when I don't have these issues, but I'm not really positi've of that either.

The connector on the motherboard check it . It may need to be resoldered. The last time I ran into those symptoms that was the solution.

  • Problems with Zen 16GB (and contacting customer suppo

I got some odd problems with my player.. I tried to contact customer support with that email whateverformthingy but it just always returned me to starting page of creative (the one where you choose region/language) when I clicked Submit.. No autoresponse either.
So, GJ with customer support. I hope, whatever the problem is, it will be fixed soon.
Anyway, here's what I tried to send to customer support:
    "Hey,
I got 6GB Zen at Christmas and its acting just plain weird at the moment:
    When connected through USB player
*keeps blinking full green battery&empty battery with lightning bolt over it
*reboots itself time to time. I was about to move files over and it just kept rebooting every 5~0 seconds until I un-plugged it and plugged to another USB port - after that it worked for couple minutes at started same behavior again. After I got the player it worked fine, no rebooting on it own as I moved couple GB music to it..
    When not connected
*player turns display on for couple seconds every ~hour~couple hours. It doesn't show any Creative or Zen logos, its just blacklight on with full brightness for couple seconds after which it turns off again
*the battery dies fast.. possibly because of the display blinking on all the time?
The player upgraded firmware on it own when I installed software, so it has been .20.02 all the time. Also tried reinstall firmware with the recovery tool.
Any help would be welcome before I start fix things with sledgehammer.
I'd guess that full green battery&lightning bolt over empty one means battery is critical? However, the player doesn't attempt to recharge battery. Unless I remember terribly wrong, the recharging animation is empty battery filling in blocks and getting empty again, if you understand what I mean.. Anyways. What really irritates me is the player rebooting itself when I try to recharge/move files to it and that blinking display on when I don't use it..
Any help? Someone go poke the guy who's supposed to keep customer support's emailform working?
    -Lanka
..or maybe email form didn't like me suggesting sledgehammer.

    Thanks.
Also apparently my first message did reach customer support through email form.. Suppose I was just expecting to see something like "Message sent" after I clicked Submit - not getting bounced back to region selection.
I'll continue this with customer support.
    -Lanka

  • Strange problem with Zen Style 300

I got a Zen Style 300 for my birthday and it is given me some problems. I tried looking at this forum and on google, but so far haven't found anything like it. What happens is that during the sync process, some folders on my portable harddisk (which is where the music is located) get renamed into names with strange symbols and become unreadable. The strange thing is that it doesn't happen with all files and just as strange is that it does happen with files not related to the sync that are located in a completely different folder. You can imagine I got quite scared the first time, afraid of having lost my music collection, but on restart everything was fine again. Until I plugged in the ZEN again that is.
My second problem is probably related to it. Part of the files transfered to the player don't show up when I try to listen to them with the player. When I check they have been copied to the player correctly, yet somehow they don't show up.
I have Windows XP and tried syncing with the standard Creative software, MediaMonkey and iTunes but they all face the same problem. Although with the second problem it might happen that files copied one way don't show up, while the same files transfered with a different program do. All 3 cause the problem with my harddisk. I tried formatting the player and updating it. So anyone has any idea what might cause this?

I have a similar problem. It recognized and paired with a Sony Ericsson MW600 Hi-Fi Bluetooth Stereo Headset once. I lost connection, could no longer connect, and tried to re-pair it. Now it recognizes the the headset's name (MW600), but when you try to pair with it stays on a "Please wait..." message. It will stay that way forever until I press the back (left) arrow. Then the message says "Remote Device not responding" and pairing fails. This MW600 headset pairs with other devices (cell phone, PC) just fine, though, so it's not malfunctioning.
I suspect this might be a Bluetooth version compatibility issue? I say that because when I connect to a Jawbone Era (pretty new device, probably latest Bluetooth spec), everything goes fine.
Also, if I clear all devices, then try to pair to just the Sony Ericsson MW600, I can get the M300 in a state where it hangs and will not respond to anything. I then have to press the reset button using a paperclip to start over.

  • Problem with Zen Micro TravelD

I had a 5GB?Zen Micro which started "skipping" when I used it with the TravelDock. I returned the TravelDock for a replacement. The Zen Micro worked fine for several months, then started "skipping" again. Finally, one day while using it in the TravelDock, it froze on re-building library and I was never able to revi've it. Note that I never had any "skipping" problem while using the Zen Micro with the headphones-only with the TravelDock. I bought a second 5GB ZenMicro a month ago. At first, all was fine when I used it in the TravelDock. The last few days, the "skipping" has started again. As with my first Zen Micro, I have no problem with any track when I use the headphones. The skipping while in the TravelDock is not always on the same track, and again, those tracks play fine when I use the Zen Micro with the headphones. Has anyone else had this problem Any ideas Thanks for any help!

I've had the same problem since I got the thing, except that it's SPORADIC. Nine times out of ten I can't connect. I've tried other cables, other PC's without bettering the odds.
    Most of the time:
    () Plug in the Micro.
    (2) Hear the USB connection "bong" sound.
    (3) "MTP Media Player" window opens. "What do you want Windows to do?"
    Take your choice
    * Synchonize Media Files to this device using Windows Media Player
    * Take no action
    (4) It doesn't matter. If I select "media player" it can't find the device. If I select "no action" and then click on "My computer" the flashlight searches, but it can't find it either.
    (5) Note the Micro says "Docked" with solid arrows. It looks connected to me.
    (6) Unplug the Micro.
    (7) The Micro still says "Docked" and now I have to remove the batteries to use it.
I tried e-mail help from creative. They had me try "clean up," they had me try un-installing and re-installing the PC software. None of it made any difference. Finally they suggested reverting back to the old non MTP software. At that point I gave up on them because I had the same problem before I upgraded.
I tried calling creative. They had my try "clean up" which of course did nothing. Finally they said I should exchange the unit. I'm not convinced that would help, and I don't want to be without it for 0-5 days.
Scanning this forum today I see two more suggestions. Let the battery run down a bit before syncing. Don't let the USB root hub turn off the power. I'll try, but I don't have much hope.

  • Two problems with Zen Vision: M

Hi all. I'll give my player's specs before describing the problem(s):Zen Vision: M 30 GBVersion .40.02 Anyway, I've had my Zen for about 4 months now, and up until now, it's worked perfectly. Recently, for the first time, it froze on me. I figure it was because I was shuffling through songs on random too quickly, as I see other people have had this problem too. So I reset the player, but it only rebuilt halfway; on the "Rebuilding" screen, the green line stops about halfway through. Now, whereas I once had about 2600 songs I'm down to a little over 000. I didn't think it was that big of a problem; I've either got all my songs backed up on my computer or CD. But when I connected the Zen to my computer, my computer couldn't read the device. Sort of, that is. My Zen can still charge through my computer and when I plug it into the computer, a message will pop up asking me what I'd like to do with the MP3 device. However, when I go to Zen Vision: M Series Media Explorer, I get the message "Your player is not connected. Please connect your Zen Vision: M Series to the computer." I went through the FAQ at the top of the message board and tried basically every solution outside of trying the Zen on another computer. I'm thinking it's a problem with the player, not my computer. It still acts erratically at times- like, if I leave it off for an extended amount of time and turn it on, it'll go into rebuilding mode. Other than that, though, it's fine. Could the hard dri've be corrupted Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem. It all started yesterday when I was installing the cd drivers in my new computer. I have searched numerous forums and some people had to return the product. Please admins help on this issue as I understand it is very serious.

  • Sync Problem with Zen 8GB ¬____

Okay, so I bought my zen, then after some issues that have been delt with and a replacement later, I finnally got a zen that worked, and hav been using it for about a month now.
im very happy with it, but i hav been having the most annoying problem with it. basically i did the big NO NO of connecting the player BEFORE installing it with the CD, so Vista has installed it, i think but without the right software to do so.
so now, everytime i connect it to the computer, even after installing the CD, all it does is charge, it does not dock. after hours of stress and hair pulling, i finally found how to get it to dock.
I go to device manager and uninstall the creative zen, then take out the USB, then put it back in.
this allows me to go into dock mode, but a little vista bubble in the corner says it is installing new hardware (the zen) and after about 5 seconds, the zen is back in device manager after a "successful installation", and it once again becomes undocked untill I uninstall and repeat.
If i go to propeties of the creative zen it says "This device cannot start. (Code 0)" is that is any help.
its so annoying and stressful, having to drag 3 songs on at a time, and i cant create any playlists or do anything much other than charge the player.
so i beg of anyone who knows the cure to this problem, please help i cant see any topics for this specific problem, and none of the FAQs help ?____?
sorry for the grammer and stuffs, its 5am and im abit tierd lol thanks in advance for any help

Do you have Service Pack installed on the Computer? Did you try to have Windows update the driver for it's? Do you have another usb cord for the device you can use as the cord could be bad. I would try a new cord before I did anything else to my computer. Take player to the store with you when purchasing so you know that it's the right one. They're not very expsensi've(under $0.00 U.S.) You may try system restore to a time befroe you started using the Zen. BE ADVISED THAT WILL DELETE ALL FILES,PROGRAMS,WINDOWS UPDATES ECT, that where installed after the restore date. Have you formatted the playe? That too will erase all files on the Zen. I would try the format on the player first before a system restore.

  • AudioSync Problem with Zen To

I have a problem with the audiosync on my Zen Touch. When I first got the player I loaded a bunch of music onto the player with the AudioSync and it worked fine. I recently got some more music, and I wanted to redo all my music. I found the Volume Stablizer and redid all my music with that. I then deleted all the music on my player and tried to AudioSync then redone music back onto the player. But it only takes some of my music and doesn't put my playlists in. Do I need to like format the player, or something? Any help would be appreciated.

I also have not been able to transfer playlists to my Zen Xtra. This morning i installed the newest software from Creative and it still didn't work. And "Moderator" could you please provide a direct link that actually covers what we're asking about instead of one that is a listing of every info sheet for every product. I found nothing in there that helped i went through each one last night. I got so frustrated I gave up. A complete waste of my time. After i installed the new software i made some new Smartlists, well they're not very smart because they don't even show up to be transferred, but i figured well they're "Smart" so i Sync'd. And surprise surprise, no playlists. Playlists are such basic function. Why is this not covered in the documentation provided "with" my Zen.

  • Problems With Zen To

    Help!:smileysurprised:
I'm going to email the creative people. I have had problems with my zen touch, I've only had it for 2 months. I had to reboot yesterday because it didn't want to turn on or off, it just had the light switch on with no screen information, it was pretty frozen. I rebooted it and connected it to my computer and it fine again but then it seemed like it was fighting to play music or be docked. Once it's docked, it fights and starts playing music again. I just got the smaller version, MUVO 52mb on my computer also. I wonder if it's because I have both drivers on there?
This is the second time this is happening. The first time, my zen touch was going crazy, and the volume and clicker didn't work. I updated it with the firmware and it got fixed. I just wonder, if I just have a messed up crazy, mp3 player? I should return it.

If this is the second time I would say that it's probably just something odd that happened and caused the Touch to go a little crazy, just some anomalous behaviour. As you already have the latest firmware you could try running a disk cleanup. To access the Rescue Mode hold down the play button and KEEP it held down, press the tiny reset switch once, and KEEP the play button held down until the player boots into the Rescue Mode. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. Note: Disk cleanup should not remove your tracks. It searches through the disk for files and rebuilds the index, and can be useful for correcting any strange behaviour.
If the behaviour continues then I would consider contacting support to get it replaced.
I doubt drivers can be the issue as assuming you're not using Win 98 SE, the MuVo doesn't use any of Creative's drivers (and they wouldn't be related really to the Touch driver anyway). It might be there is some more general USB issue with this PC though.

  • Various problems with Zen Micro, but getting smaller and small

Last night I turned on my Zen Micro and heard Led Zeppelin's All of my Love for about 4 seconds before the micro froze and started buzzing, reminding me of my Nintendo when the cartridge was dirty. So I tried restarting it several times and it continued with the same. I left it for the night, since I was at someone else's house and had not installed the new firmware; I needed to be at my laptop to mess around with it. In the morning, I looked up some stuff and found out how to access the recovery mode, which I did. I did all of the options, the last one being to format the hard dri've. I had already erased the firmware, but I formatted the hard dri've after I plugged it into my USB port and saw that it had been corrupted anyways and it was completely empty. Then, seeing as everything was gone anyways, I took the opportunity to download the firmware updates and install them, or at least attempt to. I got a message saying the battery level was too low, and to charge it before installing the firmware. I took out the battery and it ran on main power while I installed the first firmware. Then, I put the battery back in and installed the second firmware (newest) and it gave me the same error message about the level being too low. I took out the battery again, but this time it just turned off. I didn't quite understand so I just went to sleep and left it charging. I woke up and was able to install the firmware. Then I went to Windows Media and synced my library to the Micro. Bad idea. I don't know if it's the same with any of you, but I don't exactly love all the songs in my music library. It took every audio file I have on my computer and put it on the Micro. So I figured I'd just open MediaSource and do the whole editing thing I did before it got busted. That doesn't work because of course the music under Creative Zen Micro is different from the music under PC Music Library which, until today, were identical. Now. All I want to know is how I can look at the music inside my Micro in the same way I would if it were in my PC Music Library, where I have a scroll bar on the side with all the artists and albums and a list of tracks next to it. I need this because instead of everything being free and looking the same way it would in my downloads folder, everything is now in folders by artist name and it will take me forever to figure out which songs I do and do not want. Still, at least I've got it working now.

It shouldn't be, assuming you synced via WMP the contents of the PC Music Library. Ultimately the contents of the PC Music Library is irrelevant though as don't you want to edit the contents of the player? I'm guessing you're using the v2 firmware which makes this a little harder...

You can't. That's the problem with the v2 firmware. You might want to go back to the . firmware. For the differences in the firmware versions look at the FAQ post.
