First startup almost fine, second is silent black screen, what to do?

Hey fellow mac-users.
Well, I've "almost" become a mac-user... the case is, I just bought this white MacBook 13'' 1GB Ram and 80GB HDD, waited about 16 days before it was delivered, waited the whole day today from 8 o'clock in the morning till it arrived 7 o'clock in the evening - stupid TNT - and now, well, here's the situation:
I brought it out of all the package material, plugged the power-cord and it showed that it started recharging. Fine I thought. I'll give it a try then. I opened it, pushed the power button, the macbook started with a welcome sound - I was thrilled - it started a loading screen after the apple logo with somekind of cirle in different colors turning around, the mouse pointer disappeared, and the macbook stood working like this for like 10 minutes. Too much I though, must be something wrong. So I turned the macbook off by holding the power button pressed down for a moment, it powered down, I waited a bit, and tried to turn it on again. The white light in the corner of the macbook turned on - like it should when it's turned on I guess - there were a short flickering at the screen but just black screen afterwards, no welcome sound as before, sounded a bit like the DVD-drive tried to find a something for while but apart from that, nothing happened, and it has been like this ever after.
I've tried the power on followed by quick optioncommand+pr to reset the power-something, didn't help, tried to power down, disconnecting power adapter, remove battery, press power button for at least 5 seconds, etc etc. but no effect.
Anyone... please? Hehe, I'm getting crasy just to think about sending this machine back where it came from to probably wait all in all for 20-30 days more... why me

My MacBook has hereby been declared "Dead on arrival" and TNT will fetch it as soon as possible. A new one has been ordered to production and has an ETA of 29. August. So I guess, just "another" 14 days of excited waiting time
The procedure was a bit stupid though.
Talked to support (Denmark), who sent me to "technical" support (Sweden), who after 15 minutes declared my MB DOA and gave me a case-number and another telephone number. Talked with Aftersale support (United Kingdom) who sent me to the "real" aftersale department (Ireland) who finally worked out the different formulas and told me what to do (wait for TNT, and being able to track my replacement bla. bla.).
In total about one hour phonebill for me, I just checked my account, about 60 DKK (about 9,90 Euro)... and no "present" from apple like extra ram or extra hdd, ipod or anything... just wait for the new one to arrive... hehe, but well, it is still better than most of the other companies support.

I pad has a black screen what do I do I don't think I have ever backed it up to a computer

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • IMac 27" flashes to white on startup, chimes, then goes to a black screen. It works fine on an external monitor. Any ideas how I can fix this?

I've got a late 2009 iMac 27". When I start it up, it chimes and makes all the normal sounds. The screen flashes white for 2 seconds, then goes black. The iMac starts up (if I use an external monitor, it works fine) but the screen remains black.
Weirdly, if I start it up on Bootcamp as a Windows machine, it flashes white, then flashes briefly a few seconds later on the Windows logo, then goes to black.
I've reformatted the hard drive and performed a clean install of Lion. I've got some Apple knowledge, so I've taken the front bezel off and checked for loose connections. Everything appears fine. All 4 diagnostic lights are on on the logic board.
I'm stumped. I don't want to splash out on a new LCD screen if it's the inverter or something else that's the problem
    Any ideas welcome!

Ah. I'm not able to run the hardware test because it only works on the main screen. There's no obvious way to switch to an external monitor when AHT is running, which is ridiculous if the hardware fault concerns the screen! The problem isn't with the backlight - there is no dimmed image on the screen, it is just off.
I'll just have to use it with an external monitor, I guess - which defeats the purpose of buying an iMac!
    Thanks for your help, though.

  • Ipad was working fine and now has black screen and wont turn off or on or do anything

Ipad was working fine and now is a black screen. Won't do anything now

Is it charged? If not charge it with the supplied charger.
If charged, have you tried resetting your iPad?
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
    No data will be lost.

  • HT4061 The phone exhausted power.  I plugged in my charger and I am getting the following response:  Power on and the apple icon is visible, it is quickly replaced by a blue screen for about 1 second andf then black screen with no other activity.  What is

The power was exhausted on my Iphone 5S.  I plugged it into my charger and turned it on.  The apple icon comes on briefly followed by a blue screen for about 1.5 seconds andf then goes black.  What has happened?

Leave the device connected to power for about 30 minutes.
Then, disconnect from power, and turn the device on.  If no response, then press and hold both the Home button and Sleep/Wake button down for about 15-20 seconds.  Make sure it is not plugged in while doing this.
    See what happens.

  • TS3274 apple icon appears but ipad not responding then the icon disappears to black screen what do i do

my Ipad is not responding the icon appears then disappears to a black screen then appears again whats going on, what do i do

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that fails to start the iPad, you will need to restore the device. Read this all the way to the end and take note of Recovery Mode. You may need it.

  • My i-pod went blank (black screen)what to do?

  • MBP17 shut down by itself, now doesn't boot up, black screen - what now?

I was processing some photos in PS CS3 and my macbookpro 17" (2006 model - not sure exactly what version of 10.4 I have - its gotten every auto update that Apple sends me, No Leopard though) and it shut down on its own. It was plugged in at the time.
I tried to power it back on after 10 minutes and the light on the lid release would come on and then leave. So I waited more. Finally, it powered up and the light would come on, but its dim. The screen stays black. Close lid and light gets brighter. I can hear fans running and the sound of it starting up but its just a couple clicks (sounds like its coming from behind the power button).
I've tried every Apple key combo I've come across and tried resetting NVRAM and PMU. Still nothing. Battery has all 5 lights green.
I've read something about this "Safe Sleep" mode. Could that be the issue?
Otherwise, how can I get to this Single User or Verbose mode if the screen stays black? Or am I pretty screwed here?
Any help is greatly appreciated in advance! Thank you.

Unable to put a disc in. Had a friend who tried to connect by firewire with his computer and do some diagnostics, but he was unable to connect to it.
I press the power button and screen stays black. I hear fans going and the laptop gets warm like usual. Latch light turns on, but I hear no processor noise/clicking like you hear when you normally start up a Mac. It just sits there with a black screen. I'm unable to start up in single user or verbose. Again, I've tried resetting every possible thing to reset and powering up using every single keystroke I've come across. Unable to do anything but press the power button on & off.
This is not a ongoing, random issue. It just shut down on its own and now won't boot up. This is the one and only issue i've had with this laptop. Its treated me well until now.
I've got an ext enclosure ordered and on the way to check if I can at least access the HD in the meantime. Right now I'm going to let it run down on battery power to see if that will trigger something.
Has anyone seen/heard of similar situations/occurances?

  • T450s startup takes 35 seconds before showing splash screen. (11 sec wake-up)

The follwing are my problems:1. When starting up the machine, it takes about 35 seconds before the first screen activity appears (Lenovo splash screen). After that it boots quite normal.
    2. When waking out of sleep mode it takes 11 seconds before I see the power led stopping to "breath" and the screen wakes up.
It feels like this is a hardware/bios related issue, as (so far I know) hdd/ssd is only accessed after the bios has loaded and has finished its hardware checks. When sticking in a bootable usb it only starts flickering after the bios had loaded on screen.
    Question:
Does anyone has an idea why my laptop is waiting so long to boot or to wake up? I don't mind waiting a bit, but waiting for 35 seconds + the normal boot time is really annoying. Specially with the fact that the laptop doesn't show any sign of live for 35 seconds after briefly lighting up the keyboard backlights. The wake-up delay is also very annoying since even my 7 year old BSOD laptop wakes-up faster, and I'm using sleep mode a lot.
Some origins that I'm thinking about:
    - Hardware check during initial hardware startup does not yet recognize a dedicated GPU card. (POST: Power On Self Test)
    - I don't think this is a problem with my software since the problems occurs before reading any media.
    Things I tryed already:
    - Reset bios.
    - Start in legacy mode.
    - Bios update
    - rebuilding MBR (although I don't expect this to be the problem.)
    - Refreshing windows installation although I don't expect this to be the problem.)
This problem was already at the beginning (with origenal hardware):
From the first time I started the laptop (so even with the HDD) I noticed it took quite long to start. I remember pressing the ON/OFF button multiple times and thinking I did something wrong, when suddenly the "Lenovo" splash screen appeared.
I hope someone can help me!

My problems have been solved! An engineer contacted me that they have recieved a spare mainboard and they wanted to make an appointment. I gave them the adress where I worked the next day since I'm very mobile, and the next day an engineer came by. He seemed like a skilled IBM engineer and tested my machine and came to the same conclusion as me. He then did a few tests to see if the problem was caused by something else then the mainboard but ended by replacing my mainboard with good care. After the replacement the the boot and wake-up time was normal like it should be. I'm very pleased by the service Lenovo ThinkPad has given me. I need to add that when I called for support I got someone on the line that could not really understand me, neighter dutch or english. But that was also duo a bad connection it seemed.. But after that call I did not really expect this would come to a good end. I was then really suppriced that 5 day's later a dutch engineer manager called me to make a appointment.

  • TS3367 I am using Ipad mini face time with another Ipad user in Shanghai, but after a few seconds, I got black screen, saying poor connection and that's it. Very frustrated. Any idea?

I am having problems of using Face time. I signed in and connected with another Ipad Mini in Shanghai, but while the other side could see me all the time, my screen turned black after a few seconds, and saying "poor connection". It happened all the time, I started to use skype, but it is crazy of having a new mini, and having this device. It  is very frustrating.

    Hi Lauren,
When troubleshooting power issues, we want to make sure we have followed all steps outlined in the following article:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
    - Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
    - Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion.
    Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
    - Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
    - After at least 15 minutes, if:
                   - The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
                   - The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
                   - Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
    - If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
                   - If the display turns on, go to step 4.
                   - If the display remains black, go to next step.
    - Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to
restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
    - If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.
