First thread a new iPhone owner. I've got a question

I just got an iPhone 5, the first iPhone device I've ever owned so I trying to get used to it. I've got a question though. Is this normal or is the iPhone disfunctional. Sometimes I would get a text and hear the text recieved notification sound. I wouldn't check the text and after like a minute or so the sound goes off again. At first I thought I got two texts but it was actually the same one.
Is this supposed to be some kind of reminder that you've got an unread text pending?

That's by design based on how many times you ahve it set to alert you.
I suggest you read the manual:  http://support.apple.com/manuals/

  • Going to be new Iphone owner on X-mas. Questions ????

I can't wait until Dec 26th when I can go to my mall and buy my new Iphone!!! (I have to wait b/c I am getting like $300 of gift cards to buy one, and yes I called my Apple store and I can use them)
The wife and I are currently with Sprint, but we will be switching. I have talked to an ATT rep and they are going to waive the activation fees and give us like $100 towards my wife's phone to switch.
I was planning on going into ATT and signing up with them, get my wife a phone and get a free one for me (to keep in case my Iphone craps out), then go to Apple and buy my Iphone.
    My main question is:
*Do I have to wait until my phone # has been ported over from Sprint and my free phone works before I activate my Iphone??? And then do I activate as a current customer of ATT ???? Sorry, I have been with Sprint for like 8 years so it's been a while since I have switched companies. And I have never ported my number over. Have many of you done this????*
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We just went through this.... we had a family plan (my husband, our son, and I) with Verizon. I got my iPhone and ported my number to AT&T when I activated it with the basic (450 minute) plan. About a week later, we ordered two phones through AT&T (the "free" with plan activation phones), and put in the request to port the other two numbers over and establish a family plan (700 shared minutes). When the phones arrived, we activated them and added the two plans together. We're now all on a 700 minute family plan consisting of my iPhone, and the two "free" phones.
If I had to do it over, I would probably have gotten three "free" phones, and THEN activated my iPhone to have the extra phone as a back up. If you're planning to do that, then yes, you would need to get the numbers ported over to AT&T and the new account activated, then activate your iPhone as a current customer of AT&T.
AT&T actually has very good customer service. I ended up calling them several times throughout this process, which was complicated because my son is going to school in another city about 100 miles from here and has NO access to a land line. We needed to make sure that his old phone would not be disrupted while we were getting the new account set up and the agreement from Verizon to release our numbers. Once everything was in place, we activated the new phones and he was able to use his immediately.

I'd ask for your money back.

  • New iphone owner icloud e.mail change

    hi
    i bought an iphone 5  2nd hand
it was already on ios 7.1 when i purchased it
the person had the icloud and find my iphone e.mail & passwords deleted from the phone before he sold it to me
so i have put in my email account and password on icloud & find my iphone ect...
    now my question is
if i update my phone to 7.1.1 will the phone look for my icloud e.mail and password for it to activate once updated
or will it still want the person who owned the fone before me's e.mail and password (ie;the first e.mail address linked to the phone's icloud)
also the phone is registered to the previous owner (just incase that makes any difference)
please only reply if you are positive you are correct with the answer
    thanks
ps also if i was to purchase an iphone that is on ios 6.
and the exact same thing as i done above
whos email would it ask for
    mark

If you are just updating, you should not be prompted for the activation lock information, but just in case you do end up restoring or the update fails, it will ask for the Apple ID and Password for the account currently listed in Settings > iCloud if Find My iPhone is enabled on that screen.
Activation lock runs off the Find My iPhone feature and not the iPhone's registration.  Device registrations can be found at supportprofile.apple.com.  More info on Activation lock can be found here.

  • HT201210 i`m trying to update my new iphon with itune. i got a worning no.14 .then i updated apple and tried again but got a massege "iphone not found".all the time there is a serial no. but it says that there is no iphone no.  what am i doing wrong?

I am trying to update my new iphon 4.at first i got a massege no.14. then i updated apple &tried again but this time got a massege no iphon found. serial no.appears but not a phone no.what should i do?

Sounds like it's hardware issue. The iPhone warranty is based in the original country of purchase. Since it was bought in Korea you will need to ship the phone to someone you know in Korea to be taken in and then they will have to ship it back to you. The cost of shipping will be at your expense.

  • New Iphone Owner

    Hi,
I just got a used Iphone 3g and this being my first iphone i have some questions. one is the phone has apps the previous owner purchased and i would like to retain these apps but would also like to wipe to phone so i can start with a fresh slate is there anyway to do this?

You won't be able to save the apps since they weren't purchased on your iTunes account, and they won't transfer or sync to your computer. When you set up your iTunes account and activate your phone, all apps and iTunes will be replaced.
There is no other way to store or transfer apps to or from the phone.

  • New iPhone owner review - wish list - question

Louder and better quality speaker phone and ear speaker
    Flash Player
Wide screen option for all apps
Games or at least the one I purchased on itunes
    No special adapter for headphones
I have all things Apple. So my 2 email accounts .mac and contacts is awesome.
Goggle maps is amazing. I will not go into detail. But how it integrated into what I needed to do was a job well done.
Internet was as expected for a cell phone. iPod quality as expected.
If it never got any better. I would still have one. What it does by far out weighs was some feel it lacks. No deal breaker. Which I think comes from building so many iPods.
Two things hurt the iPhone sales. The first is the mistake marketing made in the original pricing and 2 options. They admitted the 8gb was what people wanted. So the normal Apple choice or option in this case was a mistake. The price should have been 499. Then the 100 dollar price drop would have made a ripple rather than a title wave. Marketing missed the other major factor. Flagship product introduction with preventable Bad PR.
The other (hurt) thing that will hold back sales for at least 2 years is existing contracts that cost a customer to switch carriers. I think marketing felt the 200 dollar price drop would resolve that issue. But it did not. Apple and AT&T dropped the ball on that also. Apple should have issued a store credit and AT&T a reduced pricing plan for "switchers". Yes. That would affect short term profits. But thats the mistake. Real success is in long term customers. What they missed was volume of sales ( market share ) to offset short term profits. It could have been 3 million iPhones sold and in use now instead of 1.
This leads up to my question. Why is it when I called iPhone support the staff are not trained well. Has anyone else had the same people?

I'm with you Kmosh. I hope the update, if/when it finally arrives, includes more than just iTunes/Wi-Fi stuff. There are those of us out there who use these iPhones as communications devices and not just iPods with a phone thrown in. I don't need an easier way to buy music while I'm driving down the road or sitting at work. I hope the update includes things like cut and paste, Safari Flash, more customization, and numerous other functional enhancements I've seen mentioned in this forum. I'll be less likely to be a promoter of the iPhone if all we see is music-related enhancements. I like what it does now, and I'll continue to like it, but a few improvements would be good to see.

  • I am a new iphone owner?

I'm trying to get into google loaded in and also would like to put google icon on the device

Google is the default search engine in Safari, the iPhone's web browser. If you just type into the address bar and hit "GO" it will search Google for you. You might want to take a little time to browse through the User Guide. Here is a link, http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf or you can access it with Safari bookmarks on the phone or it is downloadable as a free book in iBooks.

  • I cannot use my new iPhone 5 which I got from Vodafone UK

The iPhone was Unlocked by Vodafone and I was able to use O2 UK nano sim card. But now neither Vodafone nor O2 sim cards get signal on my iPhone. Can any one help me out please? I tried factory reset which does not help much. I was able to use my iPhone only for 1 day and thats it

contact the phone carrier...  or try doing a reset, hold down the home/sleep button until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.

  • I accidentally chose to treat a new iphone in my itunes as 'new'. I now want to restore a backed up version of my old device. How do I do this?

When I first plugged my new iphone into itunes and tried restoring from my old device it said I couldn't becauas my old device's software was too old. I then updates my old device. I plugged in my new phone and accidently chose to treat it as 'new' as apposed to restore up from old device. I do I now restore all my apps and what not from my old phone?

Aa long as your Backup file is still the Backup from your earlier iPhone you will have no problem in Restoring your iPhone from that earlier Backup.  There are many reasons that owners would choose to Restore to Factory Settings (as New) and then go back and Restore their Backup content.  If you connect your iPhone to iTunes use the iTunes pulldown menus at the top left of the iTunes Screen looking for your Device and then the available Backup Files will show and you can select the one that relates to the date of the Backup you want.
You will NOT need to Erase any content to do this.
On my iTunes on my Mac it is under File>Devices>Backup

  • I started using my new iphone 5c before syncing to iCloud and have lost all my messages. Can I get them back? Should I have registered the phone as 'new iphone'?

i got my new iphone a week ago. i started using it straight away, before i knew about icloud and that i could sync all my contacts, etc to the new phone. i then turned on icloud for contacts - this worked fine. today i tried putting my music onto my phone. i clicked 'recognise a B's iphone' in itunes - this has synced music and apps. the only problem is that i have lost all my text messages from the last week. the phone is showing old messages from december 2012 only! can i delete these and get my recent messages back??
    thanks.
    balerina.

You did more than sync the new iPhone with iTunes since syncing with iTunes does not include text messages.
The first time a new iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or set up the device as a new iPhone.
The former replaces all data on the iPhone that is included with the selected backup for the other iPhone or iOS device. The latter does not.
If a backup for your new iPhone was not created with iCloud or if created and has been updated since the backup was transferred from the other iPhone or iOS device, the previous data on the new iPhone is gone.

  • HT3965 When trying to sync songs from Itunes account to new Iphone 5s I lost everything on there...HELP

I just got an Iphone 5s.  I plugged it into my computer to transfer all my songs from my Ipod Touch.  When I did it erased everything on my phone...contacts, pictures, everything...Can this be undone????

This didn't happen by just by syncing your iPhone with iTunes.
The first time a new iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the new iPhone, or set up the iPhone as a new iPhone. This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone.
Sounds like you selected to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to your new iPhone. All data included with the backup is replaced by the backup for the device you chose to transfer to your iPhone, which includes contacts and photos/videos in the Camera Roll. Any music or apps that were downloaded with the iPhone can be redownloaded.
You manually entered all contacts on the iPhone, or are you accessing an email account on the iPhone that supports syncing contacts over the air?

  • Store clerk activated new iphone 4s before i backed up old iphone

Is there anything I can do now to get my contacts, apps, photos etc? When I plug in my 4s it does not give me the option to restore from a previous backup.

Select Restore under the Summary tab and when prompted, select from the backup for your old iPhone.
Having the iPhone activated in the store should not have prevented being prompted to set the iPhone up as a new iPhone or from the backup of a previous iPhone the first time the new iPhone was connected to your computer.
