First time (automatic) sync

During this year, I have manually added 3000+ songs to my iPod (video 30 GB) from iTunes. Going forward, I would like to start automatically syncing. So I checked the box for 'Sync Music' and I receive this message:
"Are you sure you want to sync music? All existing content on iPod will be removed and replaced with songs and playlists from your iTunes library."
My question is, will this screw up and delete all of the playlists I have created on my iPod? (I don't care about the playlists in iTunes)
Thanks for your help!

Yes.

This is one reason you do everything in iTunes and transfer it to your iPod. Create playlists in iTunes and transfer them to the iPod. This works even in manual.

Some apps that you download on your iPhone may possibly be to new for the iPod touch 2nd gen. I have a iPhone 5 and a iPod touch 2nd generation myself. If you plug his ipod into iTunes and restore it from a backup of your iPhone than it will download the paid apps and music that are compatible with his ipod. Hope this helps.

The first time I synced my iphone 4 with my mac, I didn't realize that all of my photos from the iphoto library would transfer over to the phone (more than 3,000).   Now, I need to remove some, as they are taking up too much space.  I cannot figure out how to remove them from the phone.  I tried to uncheck boxes and sync again, but I get a message that there is no room on the iphone.  I've read as many articles as I can find, but still cannot manage this.  Thanks for any help.

Open itunes, connect iphone, select what you want, sync

  • First time bookmark sync to Safari: keep phone bookmarks

I would like to do a first-time bookmark sync with Safari via iTunes. Currently bookmark sync is disabled. When I did this on another phone, it wiped out all my existing bookmarks on the phone, much to my chagrin as I didn't even have any bookmarks in Safari (I don't really use it).
Is there any way to specify that the bookmarks from mobile Safari on the phone should be kept rather than the ones in Safari, or at least some kind of merge behavior?

Here's to still hoping someone out there has the answer...

  • First time hot sync problems

I've had to reinstall palm and hot sync applications for a tungsten E2 handheld. When I try to do the hot sync for the first time, it askes me for my handhelds password.  When I type in what I know is the correct password, it is not accepted. I've double checked what the password is, it just won't accept it, any suggestions?

Are there any Capital Letters in the password?

  • First Time Setup Sync

    Hello,
I have just taken delivery of my shiny new 3GS but am stuck at work!!!
I want to get going ASAP but dont want to connect my phone to my work PC for the first sync if it will cause long term problems... Does anyone know if it matters which PC it is connected to for the first sync?
    Chris

No, it doesn't matter. Note than any music you load at work will be erased when you sync at home. If you just want to activate it, go for it, then add your content at home. Have fun!

  • Do I risk losing anything the first time I sync my iPhone?

I've had my iPhone for several months and of course, have it loaded up with stuff (apps, photos, etc).  I back it up to the iCloud.  I'd like to sync to my new PC.  It has not been synced to a computer as of yet.  Do I risk losing anything or should I do anything special when I first sync it?

You most certainly do risk losing all your current content if you don't do things correctly. Check out this user tip from TuringTest:

  • First Time Mail Sync

I am trying to help a new IPad user. Syncing her mail to a roadrunner account. It will send and receive, but will not download the mail already on the server. Anyone know why?

It will send and receive, but will not download the mail already on the server.
Email is not synced with a POP account. This is with an Exchange account or IMAP account only.
After creating the account with the iPad's Mail application, only new messages received at the server after that time were downloaded by the iPad's Mail application? When creating a POP account with any email client, all messages that remain at the incoming mail server (in the account's Inbox mailbox at the server) are downloaded as new and unread messages, or should be.
Does she have additional mailboxes available at the server created via webmail access for the account using a browser that she uses to transfer messages from the account's Inbox mailbox via webmail access for the account?

  • I share itunes with other family members on my computer.  First time I synced my iPhone, I picked up all of their apps.  How can I avoid picking up their apps?

    How do I fix?

Just change your iPhone's sync settings -- with your iPhone connected to iTunes, click on the Apps tab and choose to sync only selected apps, then choose the ones you want loaded. You can also drag and drop them to where you want them on your iPhone.

  • First time i sync since the new update and i keep getting this:" contacts and calendars cannot be synced on the iphone" and everytime i click on it itunes times out and shuts down

what should i do?! nothing is working! i tried turning it off and on (and by it i mean phone and laptop) nothing's working !

With my fingers crossed I uninstalled the updated iTunes that led to the problem.  Then went to the iTunes.com site to download the full version.  After the install was finished I connected the iPod and it detected and synced the iPod without any further issues.  I don't get the error, Contacts and calendars cannot be synced on the iPod "%1$S", any more.

  • First time iPad sync...

Pardon my ignorance but we haven't actually received our iPads in Australia as yet. But I'm wondering 'how' I will sync the iPad to my iMac. Specifically iTunes. Is it the same procedure as the iPhone? Can I 'selectively' sync photos from iPhoto on my iMac also? Cheers...Brad

It's just like syncing your iPhone.
Get the iPad User Guide and look at Chapter 2.

  • I need help, i just synced my iphone3gs for the first time and now most of my apps wont work

I just used itunes for the first time to sync my iphone 3GS!!!  Now, half of my apps will not work! Any suggestions? I touch on the app and it flashes real fast then back to my home screen...  HELP PLEASE!!!!

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for at least 10 sec, until the Apple logo comes back.
If this does not work, restore the phone. Restoring is covered here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

  • Scared to sync my shuffle for the first time..

I had an older Ipod and it got broken so my I Itunes has tons of music still on it.
I got the shuffle as a replacement for the old Ipod.
*Will it delete all my music on Itunes the first time I sync it?*
    Thanks for your help

Well, when I bought the other, older Ipods I had, they wiped Itunes clean of all of its music the first time you synchronize. I guess the computer would default to the new Ipod and since its hard drive was blank, it just blanked out all my Itunes content.

  • Ovi First time sync

The first time I synced my mobile with Ovi it did included some telephone numbers and e-mail address for some of my contacts. The contacts were there with some basic info just missing the telephone (for example).
Any ideas as to what I did wrong?

PEople have experienced problems with ovi not showing all the necessary info in contact cards. Someone claimed that Ovi still stores all the info but is just unable to display it.

  • Setting up automatic syncing

Everytime I connect my iPod touch it asks me to sign in to allow the sync to happen. Some times twice. I don't want to do that. Evertime I open iTunes it asks me to sign in. I don't want to do that either. How do I get around signing in evertime iTunes open?

Automatically syncing your iPhone when your iPhone is connected to iTunes is up to you. There is a selection for this under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, and iTunes includes a global preference setting to not automatically sync any iPod or iPhone when connected.
If you didn't transfer your iTunes named folder (where all iTunes content is stored) from your old computer to your new computer, more than likely all iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased from your iPhone the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes on your new computer even after authorizing your new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes.
