First time editing a title sequence. Help!

I am editing a 5-15 second title sequence for a short film. I've imported my footage which doesn't come individual shots. I'm placed the marker on the entry point of the footage that I want. I believe I've succesfully muted the accompanying audio so it won't play during the final edit.
My questions are these:
1. The footage I am using has water marks and debris within the footage, as well as the footage is a little too dark. How do I edit out the excess fuzz and brighten the      footage?
2. Is it possible to create a clipping mask for the title in Premiere Pro?

  • Ichat - getting started for first time NOT Working ..please help

I opened the Ichat application for th every first time today. When I open the app a box pops up and asks you to enter your user name and password and with which type of account you want to log in with, etc. First, I chose my mobile me account ( I also have a mac.com account and teh same thing I am going to describe happens with it as well for it is not an apple id dependent problem). I do so and click continue. The next screen comes up in the box and it is titled " encrypted ". Then in the box it says you are now ready to use ichat" . At the bottom of the box it says click done to begin using ichat.
Thus, is my problem. There is no "done" option to click on. The only button options to click on are: "learn more" , "go back" or "continue" . If I click "continue" nothing happens and I cannot do anything or begin using ichat. If I like "learn more" nothing happes at all - thus, the same result as clicking "continue". If I click back it will goto the previous screens but nothing changes.
Has anyone experienced this before? It seems strange and odd for an apple software to be so deleterious. How do i fix it so I can use iChat?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Jenna

    Hi
    Welcome to the    Discussions
Unfortunately although very rare some people do find that iChat does this.
    Do this first.
Open your Home Folder (Little House icon)
Go to the Preferences Folder within and then find all the com.apple.iChat(xxx).plist items and delete them.
    Try iChat again.
You should see several Start Up Screens.
    1) A Welcome Screen.
    2) A Valid AIM name (Includes options for MobileMe and @mac.com as well as AIM) plus confirming your Name (Your name maybe Prefilled from the Address Book)
    3) the Bonjour Enable (or not) screen.
    4) The Jabber option (Includes GoogleTalk) This Screen includes options to change Server Names and Ports under the text fields for the Jabber ID.
    5) A Video Preview pane. (You can use this to take a Snapshot for your Buddy Pic)
    6) a Details of Accounts you have set up screen.
    7) the Done Screen.
More on this with Pictures here
If this does not work we may have to get you to Reinstall iChat.
How much work this entails depends how far your OS has been updated above the Install Disk Level.
Could you tell me what OS version the Install Disk is (What came on your Computer when new) ?
And what OS level you are currently using ?

  • Creating TV Title Sequence Help

I have created many successful tv shows using Final Cut Express, and I am embarking on the 10th season of my successful reality show.
I am introducing a new Title Sequence for the 60 opening and I need help!
I would like to know which effects and software you would suggest to best construct an opening.
I don't know if anyone has seen shows like 'Survivor' & 'Big Brother', but most of the shows in that genre take action clips and seem to change their appearance, and overlap them.
It's hard to describe, but if anyone can offer some advice that would amazing!

Most of the TV show opens can be done in FCE. If I remember rightly, there's nothing in the Survivor open that can't be reproduced pretty closely in FCE. The logo is obviously made in a graphics application, mostly likely Illustrator and/or Photoshop. The CSI show opens can all be done in FCE. Most of the 24 open can be done in FCE. The graphical element for the numbers would need something like After Effects or Motion, though you could probably do most of it in LiveType, or something that looks similar. The more graphical the open the more likely it needs a specialist compositing application.

  • First time macbook pro buyer. HELP!

okay so i'm a first time macbook pro buyer and i was wondering which one would be better for video editing, the one with 2.2Ghz quad-core with 8GB or the one with 2.3Ghz with 4GB?

The 2.3GHz, but get 8GB's of RAM. You can get the RAM cheaper from places like this, than Apple:

  • First time to build computer - Need help

Hello, I just finished putting my computer together.  It was my first time and I think everything went pretty well.  I just finished putting Windows XP on it.  However, I have a few questions/problems still:
    1) Whenever I turn the computer on it still has a screen with Platinum on it saying tab to post | del to enter bios.  Is this normal?
    2) After that screen goes away, it stops loading and says "Press F1 to continue, DEL to enter SETUP" and I have to make a selection.
    3) After I press F1 to continue it says Press<Ctrl+S> or F4 to enter Raid Utility, but I dont have any raid stuff.  If i leave it alone, then it enters into XP
    4) After XP loads, if I try to goto my computer I get a blue screen.  It says MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION on it towards the top.  Towards the bottom it says
*** STOP: 0x00000009C (0x00000 and some more numbers).  How do I fix this.  I don't know if this helps, but I have a 200GB harddrive that was brand new, and whenever I booted with XP CD it said it only saw 131,000+ MB.  I said to format anyway, hope that didn't screw me up.
    Thanks for the help.

    1.  It's a normal default setting for the bios screen to show the logo.  I personally don't like it, so I turned it off.  You can access it in the "Advanced BIOS" page of the bios.
    2.  Something must be in error to have the system stop booting.  The bios only stops on errors.  I wouldn't be overly concerned yet though.  Default settings on the board make it stop on all errors.  It should give you a reason why it's stopping so look at the screen when it stops and tells you to hit F1.  That should give you an idea of what needs fixing.
    3.  Just turn off the RAID function.  It's in the "Integrated Peripherals" screen.
    4.  Could be any number of reasons, checking your memory would be a good first step.  As to Windows only seeing it as 131GB, that's probably because you installed with an older version of Windows XP, before SP1.  Back then it couldn't see drives bigger then around 139GB.  Install SP2 and you shouldn't have a problem.  Just make sure that your BIOS sees it as 186GB.  That's what 200GB drives usually show up as.

  • First time editing a project with HD, and then burning it to Blu-ray

    Hey there everyone.
    *Newbie to HD editing alert.
I have two problems regarding HD editing/export.
I've been scouring the forums for several days, and I can't find a specific answer to what I need/want to know. Some things are understandable to a degree, and then there are things that seem way over my head.
(One thing, I've read about third-party programs like Cineform, and such, and was told that those programs aren't really necessary. So, if there's some way to stay away from them, I'd like your suggestions on that. However, if in the end, that's the way I need to go for this to work, then I guess I will have to go that route).
This is my first attempt at capturing and editing in HDV, so please excuse my ignorance if I refer to something in the wrong context.
    My main goal:
To edit an HD wedding, shot with Sony FX-1 HD camera, and burn it to a Blu-ray disk.
Here is the computer system that I'm working with:
    Dell Precision M6300; Intel Core 2 Duo T7700; 2.40 GHz 800Mhz; 4MB L2 Cache; Dual Core
    Operating System: Windows XP PRO SP3;
    - 4.0GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM, 2 DIMM Dell Precision M4300
    - NVIDIA QUADRO FX1600M 512MB TurboCache (256 dedicated) Dell Precision M6300
    - Hard Drive: 200GB Free Fall Sensor Hard Drive 9.5MM, 7200RPM, Dell Mobile Precision MX300 Factory Install
    - 8X DVD+/-RW, Data Only, Dell Precision M6300
    - NTFS file system
I have been editing with Premiere Pro CS3 for the past year now.
I used a Sony FX-1 when capturing my footage.
I believe that I captured all the footage in HDV ok. (I made a new project and used the Load Preset of "HDV 1080i30(60i)"; and then captured all the footage thru CS3)
My clip properties (when highlighted in the Project Panel) say that the clip is: an mpeg; and 1440x1080 (1.333).
    1. My first problem: I captured 4 clips (Clips 1-3 are 1 hour each; and Clip 4 is 16 mins long). When I place Clip 1 into the timeline . . . the only way I can describe how the audio plays in this clip is . . . the audio looks like it's looping the same 5 to 6 minutes of audio throughout the whole 1 hour clip. (ie: the video is one, long, flowing 1 hour of continuous video; but the audio connected to this same clip, seems to be playing the first 5 mins of the clip, and then repeats it at the 6th minute). You can 'visually' see this problem when you view the audio waveform in the timeline.
The other three clips have no problem with audio at all.
    2. My second question is a bit more lengthy:
I wanted to run a test of burning a Blu-Ray of this project's raw footage, to see how the workflow would go after I've edited the wedding.
When I go to Export my timeline to Encore, on the Encoding Settings area, it seems to only let me use the Preset of NTSC Widescreen, with a 720x480 video. I don't see anywhere where it mentions that this project will be HD (which I thought would keep my 1440x1080 dimensions on export).
The Format and Range areas are greyed out; and I can only choose a few things off the Preset dropdown.
Am I missing a step? Or is this what will be exported, but once in Encore, it will be able to burn correctly on Blu-ray?
Again, please excuse my naivety in understanding and/or mis-speaking my problem.
Also on the Export Settings window, on the Output tab - should I check off 'Deinterlace' also? I've read and read about Interlace and Deinterlace, and I am confused as to "what to use when".
    So my specific questions are:
    1. Regarding the 'repetetive audio loop' on one of my clips - what could the problem be there?
Will it export OK? Or should I just recapture that one clip again?
2A. Do I Export to Encore directly, when I'm done with my timeline and want to go to burn the Blu-ray disk? Or do I need to make my timeline into 'one fluid file'?
2B. If I'm supposed to make a file of the timeline:
Am I supposed to be Exporting to Movie instead?
(When I tried that, my settings under 'Video' showed up as a greyed out area for Frame Size, locked at 720x480 wi

    Continuation:
2B. If I'm supposed to make a file of the timeline:
Am I supposed to be Exporting to Movie instead?
(When I tried that, my settings under 'Video' showed up as a greyed out area for Frame Size, locked at 720x480 with a ratio at 4.3. I changed the Pixel Aspect Ratio to "D1/DV NTSC Widescreen 16:9 (1.2)" and the ratio that shows beside the greyed out Frame Rate area does change to 16:9. But the size is still locked at 720x480.
Shouldn't I be seeing 1440x1080 SOMEwhere along the export line? Or at least some sort of ratio that would pertain to HD?
2C. Am I supposed to be Exporting to Adobe Media Encoder?
And if so, should I be choosing:
    H.264;
    HDTV 1080p 29.97 High Quality;
    Output tab having 'Deinterlace' checked;
    using VBR, 2 Pass;
    leaving Target Bitrate default of 32;
    and Maximum Bitrate default of 40?;
and should I be setting the 'Key Frame Distance' at 30 also?
2D. When exporting, should I always Deinterlace footage?
(I've read so much about Deinterlace and Interlace that I'm lost about the 'when to use either' aspect)
    3. If I absolutely have to use a third-party program like Cineform, at what point do you use that program? Is this used at the time that you capture the footage, and then import those files into PPCS3? Or is this a program that you use to Export your project when you're done with your editing?
(I read all the information that Dan Isaacs posted about the "Premiere Pro HDV workflow Guide", but that was entirely too confusing to me right now, as a newbie to HDV, etc. I was going to attempt that way, but I ended up doing this post first).
In my meandering throughout the CS3 forum regarding SD, HD, HDV, etc etc, I have picked up alot of information regarding certain problems and situations. I may have all the info in my head, and I'm just applying it wrong; or, I'm missing something in the mix? I'm not sure what it is, but I seem to be having quite a problem doing what seems to be something that should be 'easy'.
I find this forum extremely helpful and understanding, so I'm looking to you all for help. I would appreciate any and all comments and suggestions!
    Thanks so much!

  • First time DSLR owner...help!

I'm planning on buying my first DSLR around the holidays, and I have no idea what to look for in a camera, as I am brand-new to the DSLR scene.
I'm looking for something that I can grow into as I learn more about photography, etc, and preferably be under $750. I am really looking for the best value for the money, and something that takes sharp and detailed pictures of everything...sports, nature, city scenes, family events...
If someone could also give me a brief crash-course in all the terms and things related with these cameras, it would be very much appreciated
The three cameras that I've looked at: (Can someone highlight the main differences between the three for me? Much appreciated!

    Thank you for your time!

    Hi oliviaaa06,
Thanks for reaching out to us on this! I remember when I
purchased my first SLR, and I can understand that this can be an intimidating
prospect. With Canon or Nikon DSLRs you really can’t go wrong no matter what
model you end up getting, but I can say that I personally feel like Nikon has
the slight upper-hand when it comes to entry level DSLRs.
All three of the models you have listed are very close in
specifications and build quality, and the lens lineup for both Canon and Nikon
are very comprehensive. The Canon T1i and the Nikon D3100 are the pure entry
level DSLRs for Canon and Nikon, while the Nikon D5000 is one step above the
entry level camera that was available from Nikon when it was released (the
    Nikon D3000).
If the video capability is important to you I feel like
the T1i and the D3100 have the advantage over the D5000. The T1i has a much
higher resolution LCD that the two Nikon models. The D5000 will have a slightly
    better build quality.
The Canon T1i takes the highest resolution images, the
D3100 produces slightly lower resolution, and the D5000 captures the lowest
resolution images out of these three models. With that said when it comes to
the number of pixels a DSLR is capable of more is not always better. The more
pixels you squeeze into a specific sensor area the harder it is to produce a
camera that does well in low-light situations. The D5000 has the advantage if
low-light photography is something you feel like your new DSLR will be used
    for.
As far as giving you a crash course in  the terms related to DSLR cameras I could do
that here, but I have already done this in my thread “Digital Camera tips part
2” that is floated to the top of this board. I would suggest reading through
all the threads floated at the top of this board to get a better understanding
of DSLRs (and photography in general).
    I hope this helps!

  • First time PC build. Please help.

So first off I'm pretty amateur.  I have been running Pr elements on an old destop for a while and putting together a few little DSLR projects.  Im starting to get a few more serious projects and need to upgrade things.  I was tempted to go down the Mac route but have pretty much opted against that.  I am planning on getting Production Premium, as I can get student pricing.  Going this route I really need a good computer that I can rely on to cut and color quickly.  Keep in mind that Im not doing anything really fancy.  Mostly simple edits with coloring and other basic effects.
This is what the computer shop recomended based on what I thought I needed. The price came out a little higher than Id like, so any recommendations would be really appreciated.  I am really not much of a computer guy so I have no idea if there are any problems with this setup.  Is it too much for what I'm doing? What would you do to make it better?

I agree with Harm... I have Win7 64bit Pro and CS5 Master Collection and MS Office Pro and "several" other, smaller programs on my boot drive... and only 60gig is used... I do have my work load spread across 3 drives
My 3 hard drives to edit AVCHD are configured as...
    1 - 320Gig Boot for Win7 64bit Pro and all program installs
2 - 320Gig data for Win7 paging swap file and video project files
When I create a project on #2 drive, the various work files follow,
so my boot drive is not used for the media cache folder and files
3 - 1Terabyte data for all video files... input & output files (*)
(*) for 4 drives, drive 3 all source files & drive 4 all output files
Search Microsoft to find out how to redirect your Windows paging swap file
    http://search.microsoft.com/search.aspx?mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US
    >Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Unless you are on a "business enterprise network" where you need the advanced features of Ultimate, all you need is Win7 64bit Pro
Even if you are not going to overclock your CPU look into a better cooling aftermarket CPU fan
Be sure you have plenty of "large, quiet" case fans

  • FIRST TIME EDITING IN HD...A LITTLE CONFUSED

I've been reading up on everything regarding the settings to set in FCP 6 to begin an edit. I shot footage on a SONY HVR @ 1080i 60 24fps. What I'm confused about is when I go to Easy Setup, I select HDV for Format, then All Rates for Rates; this where I get confused....there are choices for HDV - 1080i60 or 1080i60 FireWire Basic or 1080p24(no 1080ip24) or 1080p24 or 1080p24 FireWire Basic. Which one to use?? I was toying with the Apple Intermediate Codec and the Apple ProRes 422, but don't think that's the way to go. HELP! Any suggestions??

    Hello,
Actually, you did find the right setup. With your HDV camera (and anyone can jump in here as always) it says that the setting is capturing 24p or 24a, whatever it is, but it is really capturing at 60i. It is working with the pulldown to give the "24 look". So the Easy Setup for "HDV 1080i 60" is actually what you need. But most people on the boards will tell you about FCP being finicky about HDV footage. So after you capture it, you may want to conform it to something else in Compressor like ProRes. It takes up more space but is a lot easier to work with.
    Hope this helps.

  • First Time iMac Buyer - Needs Your Help

Questions for anyone who has had a (Fusion Drive) and/or (Intel Iris Pro) GPU.
Your opinions would be greatly appreciated. I am in the process of getting an 21.5 iMac and will upgrade the RAM online to 16 gigs. Price is somewhat of an issue, so the base model is where I’m standing at the moment. I am nothing more than a basic user, web surfing, music, emails, some picture editing and possibly some very light gaming.
In terms of performance what can I expect from opting into the Fusion Drive vs a reg 1TB HD?
Will it be a night and day type of change or will I even notice it at all?
Where will I see these changes in performance with in the operating system?
Is it necessary based on the basic and casual user like myself?
In terms of the Intel Iris Pro GPU, how well does this stand up against other cards?
Will I be able to play basic games, such as Sims 3, Portal 2, Skyrim and the like and still get a decent frame rate?
    Thanks for your help.
    CJ

    Thanks for your reply!
I have never had an SSD so Im not sure what type of change I am in for.I am using a basic 8 year old PC now that is on its last leg.
Anyways, when you say more RAM is upgrading to 16 enough? That is the max limt anyways on the base model. You mentioned video ram, I didnt see that as an option for that model selected.
Would you say that the base GPU is good enough for what I mentioned in my previous post? I might want to test out a few games on it at some point, but my console is where I do my gaming.
    Thanks

Overclocking is not an exact science. It depends heavily on many factors including motherboard, RAM, an dthe CPU. Off the bat i can tell you that you probably won't get very far with PC2700. To get even a small OC you need some decent quality PC3200. but then, its only rated at 400Mhz so your not going to get much over 430Mhz on it. If you really want to OC, you need some faster PC3700 (DDR433) or DDR500 (PC4000). Even then, it is difficult to achieve a stable overclock because of the other two factors, how far you can push the CPU and Motherboard. It is essentially a trial and error process. Push the FSB up a couple points and see if it's stable, then back of a bit when the machine crashes. A good tool to use is Memtest86+, which will test your memory for any errors while overclocked. You can download it here.
