First time House Buyer, Phone Line Already Install...

Evening all (and thanks for looking in advance),
Just completed on my first house purchase today and should be receivng the keys shortly. There is an existing phone line (or at least a visable phone socket) in the house but I currently have no existing phone number to transfer over.
If someone could advise how to proceed I would be grateful. I remember reading on (this?) forum that there was a number you could ring if the line was active and you would be able to get the designed / active number for the house in question (I cannot however locate the article at the moment),
Thanks, K.

My Wife got an iPhone at work. IT set it up the first time on another machine, they finally install iTunes on her machine but I don't know if she can sync without loosing Photos, SMS, and other things. She had six months of stuff on that phone?
The problem is she can't update to new software until she connect to iTunes, but she don't want to loose all that info.
    My question is:
If she register her apple ID on that new computer, and sync the phone, will she loose everything? or iTunes will back up first (because apple id match) and then sync.
Otherwise, how can I do it? The closest apple store is 3 hours away. thanks!

Before you connect to a new PC, make sure that autosync is disabled in Edit/Preferences/Devices, otherwise her phone will be wiped during the following sync.
If she has data on the phone she wants to save, back up manually:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to her new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing. Transfer the purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.

  • LOST IN THE NUMBERS? FIRST TIME HOME BUYER HELP!!!!!

Alright Fico family, i am here for assistance as a first time home buyer. I have been preparing for this day for like 2 years now and i want to make sure i have everything close to ready. In August, i plan on starting the home buying process and i am here to find out if i will qualify or what i need to do to make my chances a lot better than it could be. Below is my portfolio. Downpayment: I have $6000 saved up now and plan on adding to it until i close on the house so it might be more, but right now 6k is on standby for the downpayment on the house Income: $40,371 and i will have been at my job for 2 years in August Credit Score(Not the mortage score but it is Fico): Experian 681   Transunion: 667    Equifax: 688  I plan on pulling the mortgage scores when i am ready to sit down with a lender. Wise or not? I have only one collection on my transunion for $150. I been trying to get it off my name but no luck and i refuse to pay it. Now will this hurt me as far as the mortgage, or i can not worry about it since it is small? Monthly Debt:
Car Loan: $13,665 at 3.94%  $265 monthly Student Loan: 40,000 which is defered till April of 2016 Amex: $6000 CL with $2000 Balance Chase: $1000 CL with $600 Balance Discover: $1500 CL with $500 Balance  NASA FCU: $4000 CL with $1500 Balance Buckle: $1850 CL with $0 Balance Finger Hut: $1300 with $0 Balance Walmart: $3500 CL with $900 Balance HH Gregg: $4000 CL with $1100 Balance Wow, writing this out really made me realize i have too many balances, like i knew it before but it just hit me. This is where i will need some advice. I plan on putting aside about $1500-$2000 to pay off some of these cards so i can be in a better position once the credit is pulled. Which should i pay? i am thinking Chase, Discover and possible pay down Walmart. I plan on not using the credit cards until after the house is purchased.  Assets: I have about 5k in 401K for my company, but i dont plan on touching that.  Location: Atlanta, GA Property: I am thinking a condo or single family house. I would like to get something i can later on either rent or flip and sell later on in life. Just using the calculator on Zillow, it seems i might be able to afford the most 125K worth of house I am thinking FHA loan will be my best bet, but i wanted to know if there is a possiblity for FHA loan to use a fix up a fixer upper.  I think i have provided everything i have read will be needed to find out if i can qualify. Please Fico Family your assistance will be greatly appreciated because i think i have done too much research and lost my self in it lol if that makes sense, and the numbers are starting to confuse me. Thank you

    1) ...need to think about where you intend to buy ...if in rural area around Atlanta, USDA is much more advantageous than FHA in most cases, check the USDA site for property eligibility map+ ...you might be surprised at what is considered rural2) ...your income is low enough to qualify for most state/county down payment/closing cost assistance programs ...also the USDA Direct program ...don't overlook these programs ...most will provide several k in assistance and most are either grants or forgiven if you live there for long enough3) ...do your homework on the student loan payments ...there are substantial changes on going that may force the lender to use 1 or 2% of your SL total debt as a monthly payment in your dtir calculations whether or not they are deferred or IBR ...the payment your SL lender requires may well not be what your mortgage lender will use depending on the program4) fico appears to weigh cc utilization in tiers ...50/30/10 being widely claimed as breakpoints in the scoring ...thus I would pay down all debts to 50% first, then 30%, then 10%, then zero on all but one cc account ...that will result in the fastest fico 8 score rise ...the problem with that strategy is that the dtir calculations will use every cc with a balance owing at the minimum payment reported ...and that can sink your dtir despite a rising fico score ...you need to figure out which payment strategy serves you best ...in your situation, I'd not worry about cc interest charges right now ...focus on what gets you to a mortgage. 5) the TU debt only matters if it is recent ...fico weighs paid/unpaid the same ...some lender overlays may require you to pay it but most will not6) ...pull your fico mortgage scores now ...its $40 well spent to know where you really stand ...differences of 50 points +/- are all too common depending on whats in your individual file ...no use in waging a battle that you don't need to fight  ...as always, ymmv ...hth

  • First time here   One of my techs installed 2 SRW2048 swi...

    First time here
One of my techs installed 2 SRW2048 switches fairly tightly to a wall, now the finance guy wants serial numbers for these units.
I'm not taking them out, so i thought i would check through the web browser and there it was Serial number but it was blank.
Is there something i am missing?

same with my net admin friend who's been complaining as well
even on a different switch, it doesnt indicate any serial number. guess the only way to check it is on the switch itself.

  • First time Mac buyer, 2.93GHz or 3.06GHz??

So I’m a first time Mac buyer, well soon will be and my question is this. Will I notice that much of a difference between the 2.93GHz NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 256MB and 3.06GHz NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 512MB configurations? I went to my local Apple store but they didn’t have both models on display, just the 2.93 one, which I really loved. I don’t plan on doing any major video editing, heck I don’t even currently own a camcorder but in the future I’d like to get one and do my own home videos. But for the time being all I use my current computer for is music, photos, web browsing, etc. On my current computer despite having Photoshop I almost never use it because of how slow it is, so that is probably the closest thing to any type of editing I do. I also watch a lot of video on my current one as well, like the HD trailers on apple.com and YouTube a lot. The current computer I have can’t handle 1080p at all but is ok with 720p, but I’ve seen that even the 2.93 iMac handles it perfectly. I guess my main concern is that I don’t want to go with the 2.93 iMac and then in a few months time feel like I made the wrong choice, but I also don’t really feel that I “need” all the power that comes with the 3.06 GHz model either. Any suggestions?

As a user sitting at the computer you are unlikely to notice any difference. (The avid 3D gamer might but then why is the avid 3D gamer sitting at a Mac?) Where you would notice it is in the speed with which the gamer renders a 3D graphic or prepares a video DVD for burning. Even so, the difference would be measured mostly in minutes, at best 10s of minutes for what would likely be an all day or overnight job.
You are incorrect. Preparing a video for DVD has nothing to do with graphics. That would be all CPU crunching, and you are not going to notice any difference between 2.93 and 3.06, except for maybe a few seconds, not minutes. The difference in graphics options might have a difference in frame rate of games, but not obvious in video playback.
Here are the numbers: 3.06 GHz first, then 2.93 GHz
Photoshop: 39 seconds vs. 41 seconds.
Cinema 4D Render: 41 seconds vs 43 seconds
Compressor MPEG Encode: 1:25 vs 1:27
iMovie HD Aged Effect: 37 seconds vs 38 seconds
Quake 4 Frame Rate: 85.6 frames per second vs 81.7 frames per second
Call of Duty 4 Frame Rate: 73.7 frames per second vs 66.4 frames per second (the winner of that test was the iMac (2008) 2.8 GHz model at 78.3 frames per second with the ATI 2600 HD graphics
So most of the tests have a difference of 2 seconds. Even the graphics frame rates were less than a 10 frame per second difference, and one test was outdone by last year's iMac 24". So you are better off saving the money because a 2 second difference isn't worth it or even noticable.

  • First time Powerbook Buyer

    I am a first time user/buyer of a Powerbook G4 12".
I hear Mac are very sturdy and dependable. Am I going the right way?
Planning on using mostly on trips for email, music, dvd movies.
    Thanks for any feedback.

    Thanks for the info.
I'm thinking of not getting the Apple Care package as it is fairly expensive ($500+) and since there is a one year warranty, I am hoping nothing goes wrong afterwards.
Are Powerbooks more expensive to repair than other windows based notebooks?

  • New house need phone line

i have just moved into a house and there is a bt box but when i plug a phone in there is nothing.
the previous owners had virgin tv but stipulated that a bt phone line was connected to the house.  I ideally would like to get phone and broadband from o2.
What charges would i incur for activating this line?  also would i then have to pay line rental to bt as well as monthly payments to 02 for their service?
    thanks

The standard charge for re-connecting a line is the same as for installing a new one - £127.99. There are discounts available, but only if you sign up for BT services.

  • First Time Home Buyer - Existing Phone Line?

Hello all, hoping you may be able to advise as I'm getting conflicting opinions.
We've just bought our first house and are moving in next week. The house already has a BT Landline, and we know the number. Their calling package is provided by Utility Warehouse. The vendor has said that they WILL NOT apply for disconnection.
Now then, I'd like the phone to work from day one. Can I ring BT on the day we move in and ask them to put the line into my name and start a calling package with them? Will the line work straight away?
    Many thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks all. I have had this cleared up now.
By vendor I mean the person selling the house. By them not applying for disconnection means they have cancelled their account for when they move out but have instructed their service provider not to have the line disconnected as we will be moving in and taking it over.
If the line and calling plan was with BT I could take over their old number straight away. As the calling plan is with someone else I have to wait until 22nd May for BT to take over the line so to speak.
So as of the 22nd I get a new number with BT on the same existing (and live) Openreach line.
If I wanted to stay with their SP I could have just taken it over also - but I wanted it with BT so I have to wait.
Thanks again, and thanks to whoever told me to ring BT now as otherwise if I'd have waited until we moved in it would have taken even longer!

  • Cannot Connect to the ITunes Store - First time user of Phone

Hi All. I am trying to use the phone for the 1st time and this message comes up when I push the ITUNES Icon. Any fixes for this? Apple said the store maybe down but that was 12 hours ago. Any help is appreciated.

Hi all. Apple says ITUNES will not work because no WIFI network is available. Does that make sense? Should one be provided from the car or outside the house or need I be where a DSL and router is located? Thanks all.

  • How to restore time machine backup without disturbing already installed app

    Hi!
My school recently reconfigured/reformatted my macbook and install the school image. Now it is filled with applications that the school help us installed. Now how do i restore the backup that my time machine backups last time? Migration assistant or what? I did not change my mac, it is just that my hard disk got reconfigured. How do i restore backup without disturbing the apps my school installs?
    Please help thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Is your user account still there?
If not, and if you have either Time Machine backups or a "clone" as backups, yes, use Migration Assistant. See [Using Migration Assistant|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/Migrate.html]. Note that you must be logged-on with a user account that's named differently from any of the accounts you want to transfer, or else be prepared to rename the duplicate.
If your backups aren't either Time Machine backups or a "clone," you'll have to drag and drop or restore using the app that made them.

  • First Time Home Buyer! Immigrant, Clueless.

    Hello everyone,
Moved to USA in december 2013.  We have stable jobs now and dont feel like spending ~2000/mo in rent as we feel its a waste of money. We have been looking for houses in 270-400k ranges ( i know the range is big but we are not too sure if we should spend too much). We have liked a home thats listed at 330k. The realtor told us to make an offer of 290k . So yeah thats where we are at right now.
I have absolutely no idea about how to proceed now. The people i know told me to go to chase bank and get prequalified but i have realised I should be shopping around. I have absolutely no idea where i should be going. I have chase bank, Bank of America, Quicken in mind right now.
My income is in 180s  and credit score on CK is 698 and 704. It was in 740s but we bought two new cars in last  4 months and the scores have dropped. The plan to buy the home came up in past few weeks and we would like to close before september 30th before our lease is up. My location is Downers Grove,IL if it matters. Putting down 20% on whatever we get. Should we go for a fixed loan, should we get an ARM , I have no idea. I have always bought things on cash even my propery back in the country i migrated from. This is my 3rd loan ( after the cars) in 50 years of my existence!

...theres not enough info in your post to provide a sound answer ...read the "Do I Qualify" sticky at the top of the forum and post the info here ...a decent realtor will be able to point you to lenders that he has had success with ...the big banks tend to be more conservative ...you need a lender familiar with your type of situation ...CK credit scores are educational only and worse than meaningless for your purposes ...mortgage lenders use the FICO mortgage scores ...there is another sticky at the top of the forum that explains the differences and where best to obtain them ...w/o knowing the details it would appear you may have less than 2 yrs on the job here in addition to being a recent immigrant ...those items must be addressed first ...it really depends on what the details are ...recent immigrants can get a mortgage if their dp/assets are strong and their background can be satisfactorily documented ...hth

  • First time Mac buyer: Buying a 2011 macbook pro or waiting till 2012?

    Hey all,
I'm currently a student but I'm graduating in December and my parents said they would help me get a macbook (no time limit on when necessarily).  I have been a lifetime Windows user and I still like Windows, but my Toshiba is getting old and really needs to be replaced.  Now I know that the new MBP's should be coming out in Feb or something like that.  my question is do you think that I should wait to buy it when the new ones come out or should I get one before graduation when I can get my student pricing (only 100 bucks off at most).  Also should I go ahead and buy software and other things that I would get the student discount on (MS office, stuff like that)?  I'm looking into the 13 MBP, I really want a 15 MBP but its really expensive.  My Toshiba from 2007, is a 17in. I love the big screen and full keyboard but it has insanely crappy battery life making it basically a portable desktop.
I definitely will use my MBP for your standard web surfing, word processing, stuff like that.  I also will probably start using recording equipment for my MBP, possibly using Logic b/c my school has a nice discount on it.   Another side note is I wouldn't mind it being capable of gaming, I haven't had a gaming capable PC in 5-6 years but its definitely not a necessity.
I also want to know what everybody's opinion is on AppleCare, I've heard many different things.
    thanks

    EXTERNAL DISKS
External disks connect to the MBP through either the Firewire 800 or USB 2.0 conector.  Self-powered ones also have a wall plug.  The general appearance is a "brick" sitting on the desk next to the computer.
These are bonafide HD disks kept in external enclosures instead of being packed inside the computer.
They are overwhemingly the preferred solution to making backups of your computer.  You will find few opinions in this forum to the contrary.
One advantage to using these for backup is that thera are not hard-wired to the main system, so if a power surge takes out the main system, your "backups" are safe because they are usually disconnected when the surge hits.
Another advantage is that you have *yet another* copy of the contents of your startup disk.
Another advantage is that typically the HD inside the enclosure typically dies, not the cable connectors or HD interface in the box.  So when the HD in the enclosure dies (all HD die eventually), you can sometimes re-use the enclosure by placing a new HD.
macsales.com is a website that has tested parts and peieces for "Mac compatibility".  Prices are nice too.
If you ask for recommenations of EHD (external hard disks), please state your budget becuse they can be as cheap as $60 or more expensive than $250.  USB 2.0 is the slowest external interface.  Firewire 800 is twice as fast as USB .
    DISPLAY ADAPTERS
Yes, Thunderbolt port, using mini-display-to-? (you fill in ? with VGA or DVI or HDMI).  MiniDVI is for oldermodels, but looks deceptively like MiniDisplay -- be careful.
guess i'm behind on the tech lingo, I already have 3 different external HDD's totallying almost 3 gigs so I'm doing fine in that field (just got to change them to FAT32.  And as for the external display I'm not sure what I'm going to do that field...

  • Help syncing my Ipod for first time... when I already have music on my comp

Well. my Ipod Touch broke a few days ago, due to technical problems. Since I was insured Apple got me a new one, but I already have music on my computer, and my computer was connected with my old Ipod before. How do I make it so my new Ipod will take all the songs from my computer and sync it instead of deleting everything. I'm on the part where I set up my Ipod now and it gives me two options. I can either "Set up as New Ipod" or "Restore from the backup of 'Ipod Touch'"(which was my old ipod that broke). Which should I choose. My mom got the ipod for me, and she was told I was supposed to set it up as a new thing or something. But she was unclear and doesn't know exactly. So which should I choose?
    Thanks in advance.

Ok, so, I can't restore it from back up, since the new ipod is totally new, and it is not updated or anything. so should I just set it up as a new Ipod and go from there? Will anything i had on my old ipod be deleted from my computer? Like will my apps and music be deleted, or my mail info and bookmarks?

Said a patch failed. When I went to update the update failed and I cannot complete installation of apps. What to do?

Paris - I finally got everything installed on my own. I uninstalled all of my old Creative Suite programs and restarted my computer. Then I disabled my firewall, spam and scanning functions in my McCafee software. After that I was able to download all of the apps successfully. I don't know if that helps but good luck.

  • First time MacBook buyer

I'm looking at getting my first Macbook. What is the difference between the Macbook Pro and Air? I will use the laptop for music, internet and basic things. I may use the Macbook for music making or animation. Can the Macbook handle that? WillI need a NVIDIA graphics card for animation? I'm use to PC/Windows terms and technology and new to Apple technology and terms so I have questions. What is Firewire 800? What is MagSafe Power port? What is the Thunderbolt port? What is the Gigabit Ethernet port and why does the MacBook Air not have one? What is the superdrive? What is a solid state drive? What do you know about Expercom?  Are they a god group to buy a MacBook from? I hope you can help me out. I look forward to the answers.
