First Twitter, now even Twidget is crapping out

So yeah... I posted befor eI was having issues with Twitter force closing on me, and now it seems that Twidget is having it's own issues as well. It stopped refreshing and when I closed and opened it again, it kept saying my username/password was wrong even if it was right and cancelling it makes me force close it.
WTH is going on here? Do I have to go to a third or fourth twitter app and have it screw up on me as well? Does anyone have an answer to this conundrum?

(no edit button... so please forgive for the back-to-back post)
Just in case someone is going to suggest it to me, I already tried clearing both the cache and the saved data, uninstalled and reinstalled and still nothing worked. So yeah... not sure how I much more I could do to fix this.

No, but it may help the chances of a successful installation.

  • MBP battery crapped out, now fan running loudly

While I am waiting for my replacement MBP battery (which I ordered yesterday) it looks like my current battery finally crapped out, as my computer shut down again automatically last night while I was on a plane and I'm getting a big "X" where the battery charge indicator is located. This appears to have caused my fan to run at a higher rate or something of that nature because the fan is now very constant and loud. Everything else on the computer seems to be working fine however, so long as I am plugged in. The question is, is it OK to be using the MBP with the fan running like this until the replacement battery comes in, or should I try to change to setting on the fan? And when I get the new battery in, will THAT make the fan go back to normal?

I do think it's normal. Keep in mind that batteries vary - the "health" is determined with a nominal value as the denominator (5500 mAh for a 15" MBP, which is actually rounded down from the calculated full charge capacity of a new battery, 5555 mAh), but the actual full charge capacity of a new battery varies within a range around that nominal value. So, if you happen to get a battery with a full charge capacity higher than 5500 mAh, iStat or CoconutBattery will report your health as 100% for some time, even though the full charge capacity is dropping - you started from >100%, but the utilities will just show 100%, not a value like 107% even if your battery started with a capacity of 5900 mAh.
The bottom line is that a rechargeable battery starts with a certain capacity, and over time that capacity can only decrease. The decrease is non-linear, and how rapidly it decreases is influenced by a variety of conditions (charging pattern, temperature, etc.).

Without a bootable backup/clone or a Time Machine backup of your previous Snow Leopard installation or a saved copy of Lion's install app, you'll have to upgrade your Leopard volume to Snow Leopard (10.6.6+) so you can waste another hour or more DLing the Lion thing again.

We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
If you have a credit card on your account then it needs to be valid. Have you tried removing it from yoru account ? On your iPad try tapping on your id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Store on iOS 6+) and selecting 'View Apple ID' on the popup - that should give you a payments link on your account's page.

If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • I use a bluetooth headset with iPhone 5 but when I ask Siri to read my email she says I must unlock my phone first.  If I take the phone out of my pocket I might as well just read the email then.  Is there a way to fix this?

I use a bluetooth headset with iPhone 5 but when I ask Siri to read my email she says I must unlock my phone first.  If I take the phone out of my pocket I might as well just read the email from the phone screen.  Is there a way to fix this so the phone doesn't have to be unlocked?

Apple, as I'm sure you know, now manage official phone 'unlocks' directly rather than the Newtork doing so.
When a GSM Network Provider buys a consignment of iPhone's they are locked to that carrier and may only be officially unlocked if said carrier requests it. If so, it is Apple who do this, via iTunes.
I am therefore inclined to think that part of the any generic iTunes syncing process involves the transmission of key hardware data, including IMEI, to Apple whenever the handset is synced.
If this is the case and, as each iTunes account is linked to a credit card, were Apple to maintain a database of genuinely stolen phones (ones reported to Police) they could advise said Police force when a stolen phone stuck its metaphorical head over the parapets once again? They would be able to identify the name & address of the new user.
I have spoken to the Police here in Ireland today and they regularly engage with Apple on such matters.
This may not be tracking as we know it Jim, (not using GSM Triangulation or GPS) but it's arguably even more targetted and leaves an indelible fingerprint of guilt on the thief.
The laws here are simple in this regard, if you are in possession of stolen property, knowlingly or otherwise, you forfeit the goods once the Police show up. Whether you get prosecuted depends on whether you stole the goods or were duped into purchasing them.

  • Hi Dude,     I ve seen all the threads from first to last even am gonna geta iphone 4s from Thailand. Would like to know which sim will be working fine in chennai as you all are using d phone for past many days???  Is it advisable to buy a phone

    Hi Dude,
I ve seen all the threads from first to last even am gonna get a iphone 4s from Thailand. Would like to know which sim will be working fine in chennai as you all are using d phone for past many days???  Is it advisable to buy a phone from abroad.

Thanks for that. Much more constructive than the last comment. It's only the restriction code I can't recall, not the access passcode. So I can currently access the device, just not age restricted content. Does that's make a difference? I also wondered if anyone knew how many attempts you get to try to get it right. Now tried 21 times and so far nothing bad has happened but I am concerned I'll eventually be completely locked out of the device. That doesn't seem in the spirit of things though. Surely it's foreseeable that a child could repeatedly try to guess the code so I can't see that it would be right to lock the device down completely in that circumstance, particularly if the access code is being typed in correctly every time.
    Thanks

  • Time Machine deleted my old backups and crapped out midstream

I had just gotten my failing hard drive replaced, and restored from Time Machine backup. So far so good.
So a week later, I wanted to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but figured I should be responsible and run Time Machine backup again before doing the upgrade just in case something goes wrong.
The Mac has a 4TB drive, which has 2TB free. The backup drive is a 4TB external drive, which has (or had) Time Machine backups going back two years or so. It still had over a TB of space left. I clicked on Backup Now and let it run overnight. I noticed it said "Deleting old backup to make room" or something like that, which I thought was normal.
I woke up in the morning to find that Time Machine had crapped out in the middle, and said that it couldn't complete. I realized that it had deleted all my old backups. It didn't need to do that, since the only files that had changed would have been less than a GB, and it had over a TB of space to work with.
It must have thought that everything on the drive had changed since the last backup, and it wanted to backup the entire drive. As such it tried deleting all my old backups! But it failed, and stopped in the middle.
Now I have a drive that still says there is only 1.2 TB of space on the drive, but I can't see the files! Even with Tinkertool, I can't see anything beyond the one most recent backup.
Can these files be recovered? I am totally ticked that there isn't some kind of confirmation like "Are you sure you want to delete X?"
I actually need to have some of these older backups, as they include files that had been deleted before the latest backup that I may need to retrieve. Any hard drive experts out there? Any terminal commands that can make these files accessible, even if I have to retrieve them manually?

To clarify, this all happened under Snow Leopard as I had said. My profile lists Tiger, since I haven't cared to update my personal profile since using that OS, and in fact I still use Tiger among other versions. I manage a lot of users. And I never got to upgrade to Mountain Lion on this system, as explained in the post above. So I don't see the confusion.
I don't think the model of Mac makes a difference for this type of problem, but in case it does, the incident was on a 2010 Intel iMac with a 4TB hard drive and 8GB of RAM. I would have mentioned that if this was a problem with hardware specific to the model of Mac. But this is more of a universal issue.
But to stay on topic, I'm guessing my old backups are toast. But if anybody has any experience with recovering from Time Machine deleting their old backups, I would be happy to hear from them. In the meantime, I am going to try to do some old fashioned file recovery, and see what I can salvage.

  • EasyTAG crapping out on modifying existing tags

I have had this weird problem for some time, but since it only popped up with a few music files I didn't bother. Now I am cleaning out my collection and making the tags look more uniform (yes I know, I'm neurotic) and it happens with like every two files. I first thought it was due to the SSHFS share I was running EasyTAG on, but that can't be it - the exact same files make it crap out when I try to tag them locally. I'm running a 32 bit Arch install, synced with current, in perfect working order (at least I hope ).
Also noteworthy (I think) is the fact I can edit those same files perfectly in Thunar (with the media plugin). So it looks definitely like an EasyTAG issue to me, but I'd like to have confirmation (and pointers) before I go bugging upstream .
Anyway, I ran EasyTAG from a console, and I got this beauty:

I checked as I promised, but it more looks like I'm mistaken. Easytag works, at least now, as it should. I haven't tested it with all formats yet, but this far I don't get any strange output.
Sorry for not being of any real help.

  • First vision now complete broadband

First it was vo4 error on broadband several weeks ago which is an ongoing problem. Now I'm losing my broadband connection frequently. I have been told there is a frequent drop in my line speed that is why I get vo4. My hub says 7mb bt say 600kb. Now that is a line speed drop and a half. I have a new hub because the first engineer said it could be that as 1.5 had a tendency toward errors. Now u have a 2 it still happening. But now the problem gas leached out into my broadband connection totally and I am losing it too often.the second engineer never even turned up to house he went straight to exchange. I rang help desk they said he was working on it and I would notice it within 24 to 48 hours. This must be a standard answer because guess wat I noticed nothing. Then I get a call saying it was being monitored and wen I get chance to ring back I'm told the line has just been uncapped and should come back. I didn't even know I had been capped or for wat reason and now it's even worse. I'm cancelling vision as why pay for something you can't watch and wen it does intermittently work it goes onto error every time the land line rings. I have been told it is not the cabling in the house causing any problem so it has either got to be the vision box breaking down or the cabling from street box to house or further down the line. Either way I would like it investigated further because it has now gone far enough and my patience which is pretty good has been strained. Wat was a straight forward vision error has turned into something else
