First week with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus

It didn't start well, but I now have a world class hand held device!  I received the phone by mail from Verizon.  The screen is unbelievable.  However, I had problems right away.  The phone overheated, signal coverage was weak, and battery life was unacceptably poor.  I called Verizon and they told me to bring the phone into a store for immediate replacement.  I went to the store and I left with a GREAT DEVICE!  The battery life is more than acceptable for a 4G phone.  The coverage has been just as wonderful as my prior phone (BB).  There are no overheating issues.   My corporate email and calendar sync perfectly.  My personal Google accounts sync perfectly as well.  I am just learning how to use this device.  I am very happy with it.

It is good to hear some good news regarding a sGnVz replacement.  Most replacements have not gone as well.  I almost had mine replaced at Best Buy, but the Geek Squad convinced me to wait until the upcoming firmware upgrade.  I'll be interested to hear if your second week will bring happiness and not another replacement.

  • Anyone having problems with the Samsung Galaxy Stellar touch screen after a screen lock?

    My Samsung Galaxy Stellar won't respond from the lock screen, about once a week.
    What touch screen issues are others having?
    As a workaround, I have to remove the back cover and battery, replace, and turn the phone on.

    So far I have had 3 of these phones in as many months.  After about 3 weeks, the phone will suddenly lock up on me, and will either go into a boot loop, or just become unresponsive.  Couldn't even do a factory reset on the first one.  In both cases, I can see activity on the wifi indicator, so it's not like the phone is completely frozen, but you can't do anything with it since the screen is.  I really like this phone, but if this third one does the same thing, I'm going to throw it out the window, and cancel my 7 year old account!

  • How to unlock the Samsung Galaxy Nexus?

    Hey
    I'm currently studying abroad in South Korea, and since I brought my phone with me, I thought that I would see about simply getting a sim card and using my phone while I am here. Is it possible to unlock the phone and/or does it need to be unlocked? I don't really know much about this sort of thing so I'm not even sure if it is possible for me to use it here. My dad bought the phone for me, so I'm pretty sure he bought it through Verizon. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Samsung Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2 Update

    When will Verizon approve the Android 4.2 update for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus?  The slowness of Verizon to approve updates is inexcusable!  And to that I'll say, "I'm done!"  I am so disgusted with Verizon and their inability to provide updates to what is supposed to be a "Nexus" device.  It's not like they have to manipulate around manufacturer software.  It's pure Google operating system.  Load and test the drivers for CDMA and LTE and then launch the update.  At the MOST that should take no more than 2 weeks!  Since I have had my Nexus on Verizon, I have not recieved a single update prior to 2 months!  Android 4.2 update from Android 4.1 is so miniscule and, might I add, required no additional new drivers, so what is the hold up Verizon?  Where is the Android 4.2 update?  And, yeah, I know some techy out there is going to say, " well why don't you just jailbreak and load it yourself?"  Because I shouldn't HAVE to jailbreak my phone.  It's not a matter of can I do it, it's why can't I do it without jailbreaking from Verizon?  They sold this phone initially by claiming it to be a "pure Nexus" device and it's been nothing of the kind ever since!  So I say, "I'm done!"  That means that when my contract is up, I'm return to AT&T!  They have upgraded the towers in the area that I live and my friends on AT&T say their signals are even better than Verizon's.  AT&T's new LTE towers download at faster speeds than Verizon's too.  I would have happily stayed with Verizon if they would have only taken the Pure Nexus experience seriously!
    To those who have stated that I've said this for Jelly Bean 4.1, you are correct!  The only reason I'm still here is because of the hefty penalty Verizon will charge me for terminating my contract early.  My contract doesn't expire until December 2013 so it would be a rather hefty penalty to pay.  But Android 4.2 has confirmed that Verizon refuses to change their position on slow updates, so when my contract is up (as I believe I stated on 4.1), you won't see REDNIBKRAM on Verizon anymore!
    It appears as though the Verizon "love freaks" just can't seem to get the message.  I'm not saying that the updates aren't difficult, I'm saying that if Verizon chooses to use CDMA technology over GSM and that requires them to jump through hoops to get updates completed, then they should have NEVER agreed to carry a "pure Nexus" device, or at the very least, should have NEVER advertised the device as such.  My whole point is that Verizon LIED TO ME and told me that my phone was a "pure Nexus" device when I purchased it and switched from a GSM phone company (AT&T) when, in fact, they knew that I would NOT be getting updates directly from Google as the GSM versions of the SGN do.  At the very least, if Verizon really wanted to make this right, they would offer to allow anyone with a SGN phone who was lied to when they purchased it to exit from their existing contract without penalty, so we can purchase a "TRUELY PURE NEXUS" phone direct from Google or provide us with a choice of another phone (Windows Phone, iPhone, etc.) without having to renew a 2 year contract.
    All I'm saying is that if Verizon won't or can't update the phones they themselves advertised as a "pure Nexus" phone, then they should make it right to the people they lied to.

    I didn't go back to AT&T for JB in August because the of VERY HEFTY penalty I will have to pay for cancelling my contract early and I got the Android 4.1 JB update.  Once I received the update and because the the penalty, I decided to give BIGRED another change at the next update.  I thought, "maybe it was such a huge update that they really needed to make sure everything was done right."  So, now here we are waiting for the 4.2.1 update and I'm still getting the same response from BIGRED as I got for JB 4.0 update.  It's quite clear that VZ DOESN'T CARE about customer satisfaction.  They use the excuse that they want their network to be the best and they want their phones to operate with little or no problems, yet when problems ARE discovered, it takes them months to send out the updates that Google has already released months prior.  I have discussed updates with Verizon, Google and Samsung support personnel.  I have even contacted Verizon Corporate and I fully understand the process by which updates are done, and believe me when I say that the update process at VZ is in serious need of restructuring.  Especially when it comes to Android devices.  But as far as this Android 4.2.1 update is concerned, I have spoken with Google and they have informed me that there was NO changes made to the operating system that would affect the CDMA or LTE drivers on the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus, so there should be no reason why Verizon would not want to release the update.  The small changes (additions) to the operating system would in no way affect the communications on VZ.  So why hasn't VZ released this update yet.  Corporate says they need to test the software to ensure it doesn't affect communications on their network, yet Google hasn't changed anything in the operating system that would, so what are they testing?  VZ may have the better network, but CARRIER EXPERIENCE ISN'T ALL ABOUT THE BEST CONNECTION.  It's about customer SATISFACTION and not receiving updates on a pure NEXUS device in a timely manner is inexcusable and in NO WAY SATISFYING!  So when my contract is up, I will be returning to AT&T or giving T-Mobile a try on a pure Nexus device with no contract!

    I got the new Galaxy Nexus two days ago and have had several problems already.  Although I have been able to fix everything so far, the most recent issue that I am trying to fix occurs in the middle of texting.  While I am in the middle of composing a text, occasionally the phone will just completely close out and go to the main menu (where it almost always opens a new app).  How can I fix this?
    Thanks!
    I had this happen to me too 3 times the other day. What I figured out is that when I was trying to press the spacebar, my thumb would be too close to the home screen button icon. I was actually pressing the spacebar and home screen button, causing the phone to leave the text app and go to the home screen.
    Not saying this is why in your case, but something to look for. I remember reading this post, a couple of hours before it happened to me.
    Have a good day

  • Is the iPhone 5 better than the Samsung Galaxy S4/Lumia 1020?

    Is the iPhone 5 better than the Samsung Galaxy S4/Lumia 1020?

    Like almost everything in this world is a matter of choice, but, if it is to logically make a choice here are a few criteria you should consider before picking up a smartphone:
    Do you really need it? - if not, the money will stay better in your account;
    Set up the budget and consider the fact that smartphones get upgrades faster than computers and laptops, will you be able to upgrade?
    Which operating system are you familiar with?
    What are your needs and expectations from the smartphone?
    What type of person you are (email/chat/SMS/Social Media-man aka. communications, multimedia, productivity, gamer, etc.) this will help you chose the appropriate hardware and check out what are your options regarding the existing applications for your needs;
    Are you always on the run or work in an office? - this will help you decide from the battery life point of view;
    If you own a tablet you might just need a simple smartphone.
    Samsung does not really innovate in terms of functionality and usability, they only copy what others do and make it their own way. Android is not a mature operating system, yet. I like some of its features, of course, but I can rely on it when it comes to productivity as I'm a person who sends 100's of emails per day and need to easily manage the messages.
    You can have the best hardware in the world but that's useless if you operating system is bad at managing those resources, you will not be able to exploit the device to the fullest and you might cry over the money you've spent :-) Nevertheless Samsung has a large market share, makes good phones, but not quite smart, they are rather... intelligent, a smartphone is smart from the day you buy it, you don't have to put it in training mode :-)
    As about Lumia, I don't have much to say, it's what iPhone had at the iPhone 4 version minus the 40MP camera and the operating system. If I want a good camera then I buy a camera, a Canon or Nikon :-) Yes, the Krait CPU, so what? That CPU is managed by a Wi*dows OS and that should say everything. I'm not against Micr*soft, they had/have their part in technology progress, but I'm more into stable operating systems, I'd chose Android over Wi*dows, yet Nokia were always great at hardware and batery life. Bad choice for Nokia, look at their sales and you will understand.
    That's just my two cents, but iPhone is the choice of millions when they chose their first smartphone: is user friendly, solid, great hardware specs, lovely screen, wonderful support, high-level security, multimedia at its best, a design that catches the eye, looks and feels great in your hand, it's light, you have millions of verified apps in the store and a nice community to tell you all these :-)

  • Verizon...When will you ship out the Samsung Galaxy S3?

    I'm one of the millions who pre-ordered the Samsung Galaxy S3. I ordered it the first day it was available (June 6th 2012). Now I'm usually very patient, but this whole Release Date issue is starting to frustrate me...and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. Every other major US carrier is also selling the Samsung Galaxy S3, and have issued release dates for it. Most of them are from June 18th to June 21st. Verizon, when are you going to tell us the release date? On all the pre-orders, it says "Will ship on or by July 10th". Doesn't it seem a little ridiculous to offer pre-orders on such a popular phone, that you're not even gonna release for over a month? That seems almost misleading to me. Now I know Verizon doesn't care about their customers, and doesn't ever listen to them...but would it be too much to ask if we could just find out when the SG3 will be released?

    One would assume around that time...
    Also other carriers have it marked like that as well...
    So............
    You could always cancel your preorder and get it from somewhere else.  You had a choice to preorder it without knowing the date...  It was pretty "ridiculous" of you to do so without knowing when it would be released.  A LOGICAL person would wait for a hard date before making any orders.

  • Re: issue with new Samsung Galaxy S5

    I recenty upgrade from an IPhone to the Samsung Galaxy S5 and while it has worked great so far, today, while removing the protective case I purchased, the little robot guy came on the screen, the screen then went blank, some power save mode or what not came up and now the red Verizon screen is stuck on my phone and I cannot use it.  I have tried removing the battery, as the phone gets too hot with the battery in, removing the Sim card etc to no avail....short from taking the phone to a store when I have time, any suggestions?  I cannot press any buttons or get out of the screen except by turning the phone off by taking the battery out....very frustrated!!

    Try holding the power and volume down buttons simultaneously for 15-30 seconds and see if that reboots the phone.

    How di I set my iphone 4si to tether with my samsung galaxy note 10.1

    Not sure if this can be done or not but try the following process,
    On your iphone
    Settings > Personal Hotspot > On  (and take note of the password or set one up).
    On your Samsung Tablet, set up a WiFi connection and try to connect to the hotspot generated by your iPhone.
    It would be good to know if this works, good luck.
