Fit Screen command in PSE 9

Until receently the fit screen command in full editor performed as advertised for me - ie it zoomed the image to fit the available screen space (about 21% zoom) - however it's suddenly started zooming the image to considerable less than the full screen (around 16%), and I then have to zoom it manually using the scroll wheel or one of the zoom tools. This question has been asked before, but I couldn't get the suggested solution (allowing floating windows in full editor) to work for me. Has anybody any ideas how I can get this useful command to go back to doing what it's supposed to do?
Julian

When the editor gets weird, the first thing to do is to delete the preferences. Quit the editor, then restart it while holding down ctrl+alt+shift (command+option+shift on a mac). Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

What OS?
What screen display settings do you have?
Try changing the screen display settings in Windows or OSX to increase the resolution?

• Photoshop CS6: Why don't images automatically open in 'Fit Screen' mode, by default?

When opening an image in Photoshop CS6, in order to make the best use of the available screen area for viewing my photos, I have to either press the 'Fit Screen' option, at the top, or double-click the Hand Tool. Why doesn't the image fully fit in the available screen area automatically, when first opening? Is there a reason for images to open by default with empty space surrounding it, or is it an oversight by Adobe, in how the application works?

The view at Fit to Screen is in most cases guaranteed to be one of the WORST representations of your image you can ever see in a Photoshop window.
Sure, it has its place and it's one to which I have to resort often, but the overwhelming majority of users would be disappointed—even shocked—at the perceived quality of their image if that's the first glimpse they caught of it by default.
The only true representation of your pixels is at 100%, where no pixels have to be discarded or made up (invented).
The next best representations are the the percentage views that Photoshop defaults to when you hit Command/Control + or -.
One of those is the one that your window initially opens up to by default, and this is exactly the way it should be.

…and I can guarantee you that is far from optimal, without a doubt.
If your available monitor space would allow it, your images would open at 50%, or even at 100%, when the image is small enough.
The way the default view is chosen by Photoshop is perfect. Nothing has to be changed in this respect. This is one of the many things Adobe gets right.
Calling it "stupid" just highlights the user's lack of insight into the issue.

• I have Firefox 19 and the screens are narrow. How can I get full width screens, like I get in IE? Full Screen command only makes my screens taller, not wider.

I just got a new Dell Optiplex computer with Windows 7. I installed Firefox 19 on it. The web pages come up narrow, with borders on each side. So the content of the screen is smaller than what I've gotten in the past with Firefox 3.6 on my previous computer. I did the Full Screen command, and that only made the screen taller rather than giving me a full screen (such as I get with the same web pages in Internet Explorer). I've also tried enlarging the text, but that throws off the format of the web page so some parts of it overlap.
What can I do to get a full screen, including full width?
There is a box below this Details box called "Troubleshooting Information" which says I should click Allow and then click Install. Since I don't know what would be installed on my computer, I did not do it.

The Troubleshooting Information extension adds some useful information to your post, but in this case, I don't think it's really needed.
Zoom is your best bet. To make it work for you, I have two suggestions.
(1) Switch from "text only" zoom to "full page" zoom. This is proportional like in IE.
View menu > Zoom > ''uncheck'' Zoom Text Only
If you are using the compact menus with the orange Firefox button, tap the Alt key to display the full classic menu bar.
(2) Install an extension that can default your view to a higher zoom level automatically to save time when visiting new sites. Here are two candidates:
* [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/ Default FullZoom Level]
* [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nosquint/ NoSquint]
With that combination, can you minimize your eyestrain? :-)

• Is there a lock screen command in OS X similar to Screen Lock in Windows?

I want to lock screen for a brief period of time, and didnt want to log out or shut down the system.
Is there a lock screen command for this, so that I can lock it and unlock whenever I need?
Or I am wondering if I can log out without closing the application so that when I log in back, I get to the application and continue working from whereever I left.
I dont want to close the application and be able to lock or logout the user. Please suggest me some ideas.
Thanks,
Gopinath

Open the Security pane of System Preferences and check the box to require the password to wake from sleep or screen saver. In the Desktop & Screen Saver pane, set up the screen saver to activate when the mouse is at a specific corner. The screen saver can be unlocked with the password of the person who is logged in to the machine or with any administrator password.

• HT201335 how to get the apple tv to fit screen when mirroring

how do you get the apple tv to fit screen when mirroring from an ipad?

Mirroring won't fill the TV screen. The iPad has an aspect ratio of 4:3 and the iPhone and aspect ratio of 3:2, neither of these will fit exactly into a TV screen which as an aspect ratio of 16:9. The Apple TV will not zoom the mirrored image, because it may well cut off information which is situated at the top or bottom of the screen.

Use the menu Preference/General.
You have a button to press on the bottom of the screen : 'reset all warning dialogs'.
Then start the full view (F11); you'll get the popup menu to set the preferences for the full view; check to show captions.

Try to hook up your nano to your computer and choose the dialog box to update your software. The current version is 1.2 which allows distance to be calculated once you input your height (and weight).

• Fit screen in subview or zoom in/out not saved ?

Hi,
I made some subviews with 3 ou 4 big tables, and clicked on "fit screen" button,
or "zoom out", then saving everything,
but after when I reopen it, nothing seems to have been saved ?
Is this an issue, bug , or something to do to keep the "good" object size ?
Regards, Pierre

Hi,
All screen size states can not be saved.
We could add such option in the future.

• Maximize page to fit screen width

Hi,
I would like to maximize all the pages of the application to fit the entire screen size i.e. effect similar to F11.
Please let me know how it can be done at application level.
Thanks.

@fac586,
Thanks for your reply. I have been asked to check the feasibility of this feature. I just gathered the complete details.
Its a Org specific Knowledge search kind of application. So the users will be employees of that org.
The employees mostly use Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer and versions might be latest (or) one or two versions lower. We can also display a note in the browser and suggest them to use Mozilla(if required).
The main purpose of the full screen mode is we want to utilize maximum screen space to show the pages, as there are lot many regions displayed over there.
If there is a better way to show the page in full screen or use max space, we are ready to go with it.

Which browser(s) and browser version(s) is this application going to run on?Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer and versions might be latest (or) one or two versions lower. We can also restrict them to use Mozilla only.

Which operating systems?User will be in Windows XP in most cases. I assume its OS of the user here.

Is it an intranet application that will run in a controlled environment?Yes it is.

An internet application that anyone can run?No.

How is it deployed? As a desktop icon in a controlled environment? As a link on another site? On a standalone kiosk device?Users will be provided with URL for the application. Its deployed in apex.oraclecorp.com

Do the users expect it to run in full-screen mode? Do they even know what full-screen mode is? Do they know how to get out of it and back to their desktop or other apps? Will they want to run it in full-screen mode?Since the requirement is to have all the regions displayed comfortably in the page, without scrolling the page full screen mode is used. We are planning to have a button in the page, which will exit the full screen mode and move to normal mode so that users can perform regular activities with browser.

Are there any accessibility concerns to doing this? The purpose of the full screen mode is we want to utilize maximum screen space to show the pages, as there are lot many regions displayed over there.
If there is a better way to show the page to use maximum space, we are ready to go with it.

How will this work across multiple devices? Screen sizes? User font settings? We have not thought about this yet. Whatever may be the screen size or display settings the user have, it should expand to fit screen width.
Please do let me know if require more information on this.
@Joel_C,
I am a newbie in APEX and Web applications and to these forum categories too. Though the disclaimer claims, it hurts.
If I had known its a browser specific functionality earlier, why wouldnt I mention it ealier and end up in multiple iterations to get a solution to my query and waste valuable time of fac586?
No one can become 'Guru' in the way you have mentioned. Atleast I havent. Its through hardwork and continued contributions one can attain this position.
You might have also crossed this stage when you started with web applications. I am not a born genius and just a learner.
