Fit slideshow to music

Just doing my first slideshows in iPhoto, having previously used iMovie. Had some image quality issues with a particular batch of photos for some reason, that seem to be fine in an iPhoto slideshow.
However, the fir to music doesn't seem too good - its not the end of the world that the music runs out before the photos, but it is a pain that the playlist starts to play again for a bout a second, even tho' its not set to repeat in the settings.
Are there any workarounds for this at all? For all the 'it just works' with apple, why is it so hard to get these to sync anyway? (i remenber iDVD had a similar issue, not sure if it still does).
Its just a bit frustrating to have run into one issue with iMovie, and then run into another issue with iPhoto - how hard can it be just to get a reasonable looking slideshow as advertised!
Iain

Just had a look at them in full in iPhoto and iDVD - the music is about one slide short in iPhoto, but the first (of two) tracks doesn't start again. In iDVD it finishes a fraction earlier, and the first second or so of the first tracks plays right at the end. The gap you can just about live with, but the first track starting again really spoils it.
As for the image quality problem - no idea either. I've done plenty in iMovie that have been absolutely fine, but these ones were just a bit fuzzy once burned to DVD. I tried cropping them to 4:3 iDVD in iPhoto first, and reducing them to near to PAL resolution, and both of the above - but no real improvement.
Tried iPhoto, and they were fine. In fact iPhoto has advantages over iMovie :
1. It's far, far quicker to do - no dragging photos into time lines, and waiting for them, and the transitions to render.
2. The fit to music option (if it worked!) that you don't have in iMovie. (AFAIK at least)
3. The preview window is practically full size, so less fiddly.
In fact the only downside seems to be that I can't apply a wash in transition at the start, and a wash in transition at the end, which is a nice touch.
Is it possible to export to iMovie, or just directly as a .mov?

  • Created slide show in iPhoto, but with new version music no longer will play.  When I click on fit slideshow to music, iPhoto shuts down.  How can I fix this.

I created a slideshow in a previous version of iPhoto.  Since updating software the music in my slide show no longer plays.  How do I fix this?  If I select fit slideshow to music, the application will shutdown and the error file is sent and have to reopen iPhoto.

I reorganized iTunes music library and it works.

  • "Fit slideshow to music" feature doesn't work

I've selected "Fit sideshow to music" on a slideshow I've made. Using a song imported from my iTunes library. Ken Burns effect is switched on.
But the feature doesn't work. The song ends but there are still more slides to show.
Isn't the idea that the computer will speed up the pix so they end just as the music ends?
Anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks.

  • Encore Slideshow problem with fitting slideshow to music

I cannot, even though I checked fit song to slideshow, get it to actually work
Also there is lengthy delay when changing or choosing transitions, music and the fit to slideshow.
    any help would be appreciated.

Same problem here... It seems, that Encore is more an Application for playing and not for professional Authoring. But for that it is far too much expensive.

  • How do i fit slideshow to music in imovie '09?

argggg! about to pull my hair out. there has to be a button to push or tab to check! thanks sooo much for your help...

I'm not sure that's going to be a one button operation. Maybe try iPhoto instead which does have a button you can press to do this:

  • When i set iphoto to 'fit slideshow to music' the song cuts off before the end and starts again.  Anyone know why?

I have tried changing the seconds each slide displays for and fiting the slides to the music and no matter what I do the song cuts off 30-40 seconds before it actually ends and starts again.  I haven't had this problem before.

    Hi kjackson73,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If the same songs seem to cut out on multiple devices, first try re-importing or converting them using iTunes. You can also download iTunes Store purchases again. See these articles for more information:
iPhone and iPod touch: Songs or other audio content are skipped during playback
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3159
If the original CD is available, remove the affected content from the iPhone or iPod touch and then import it again from the CD using iTunes.
If the original CD is not available, convert the content to AAC using iTunes.
    Download past purchases

  • Fitting a photo slideshow to music

Just starting my first photo slideshow in 08 (having done many in 06 and earlier).
Am just about getting over the lack of a timeline for fine tuning the audio, but figured if I select the music carefully, it should naturally fit the duration of the slideshow.
However - I can't seem to find a 'fit slideshow to music' option - just the choice of setting a slide duration to an individual slide, or to all the slides.
So what is the best way of getting the photos to fit the duration of the music added?

So what is the best way of getting the photos to fit the duration of the music added?
I assume what QT Kirk was trying to point out in his own way is that such an automatic function does not currently exist in iMovie '08. (It would, however, probably make a good enhancement request for iMovie '08 feedback if you want to follow up on it.) The process of duplication such an action is, of course, not all that hard if you want to duplicate it manually.
    1) Import all photos to the project first.
    2) Locate and drop your selected music with desired total duration to the project background.
    3) Now reset the the duration of the sides to match the music duration by
    a) Use a calculator to calculate the number of whole seconds for each slide by dividing the total duration of your music by the total number of slides and noting this number for later use.
    b) Now subtract the whole number calculated above from your answer leaving you with just the fractional part.
    c) Now multiply this fraction by the frame rate standard in which you are editing. (I.e., 25 for PAL or 29.97 for NTSC)
    d) Now round off your answer to the nearest whole number. (I.e., number of frames)
    e) Now select one of your images and choose the "Set Duration" option.
    f) Enter the number of "whole seconds" calculated in step "a" above and the number of frames calculated in step "d" above. (Ex. 5 seconds and 25 frames for an NTSC slideshow would be entered as "5:25" in the duration box.)
    g) Don't forget to set the "Applies to all Photos" option before pressing the "OK" button.
    4) At this point you can add transitions if desired.
These steps should give you a reasonably close approximation for your slideshow. Since the error in approximation for the process is determined by the number of photos included in the slideshow, some adjustment may be required for large numbers of slides. What I might do is simply lessen the duration of each slide by a frame or two and add a "Title" with a duration equal the required adjustment between the changed slideshow display and the original music background to ensure a good final match between the two -- i.e., to take up the "slop" in our fudge factored approximation. While the process may sound complicated, it only takes a matter of seconds to accomplish.

  • How Do I fit Slides to music

I am making several slideshows with about 1000 pics that i have and i want to know if there is an easy way to adjust the length of each slide automatically so that it fits whatever song i choose. I have used other programs and they have that feature but i cant find it in imovie. Also is there a way to select random transitions for all the slides in a slideshow?
    Thanks for your help!!

    welcome gacorrea18 to the  boards ...
    a 1000pics...? pheww ... 1pic, 5secs = 2h slideshow ... my audience would kill me..
    you're options are
calculate 'manually' before editing, 1h video = 30.000 frames = 30frames/1sec per pic...
    or...
use iPhoto; 'fit slideshow to music' is an option in the prefs (you have to edit the music to one solid track before usage in iPhoto)
    or...
    use any 3rd party pic'animator', as PhotoMagico, Photo2Movie ...
    just a word about 'automatically':
watching for 2h a 'show', where precisely every 28 frames comes a new impression is extremely boring.. watch professional made shows: they set 'accents', vary 'speed', set focus, repeat, pick up close-ups, make 'drama' by editing etc ...-
my latest project are pictures of a 'Knight's Tournament' I visited with my lil' son.. ~40 pictures 'survived' after shooting ~500 ... and fit to ~8min music ... (a rough cut (no transitions/effects) could be seen here )

  • Repeat slideshow with music

I want to repeat a slideshow over and over and also have the music repeat and stay in sync. At present the music repeats but only after the track is finished. I could try to edit the music track to be the same length as the slideshow unless there is a control to force the music to start again when the slides start over. I haven't found anything like that and don't want to export to a movie because of the reduction in resolution (1920x1200 to 640x480). If the music track is longer by a small amount than the slideshow duration and I check "fit slideshow to music" will they both repeat and stay in sync?

How do you plan to play this slideshow? That can make a difference on how you go about creating a repeating slideshow.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Does Keynote have a "fit show to music" option?

    Dear Apple Community,
When creating slideshows in iPhoto, one can use the "fit show to music."  Does Keynote have a similiar feature?
    Thanks,
    Leland Nunes

Keynote has never had this feature.
You can edit the sound file start and end points:
select the file then:     Inspector > Format > Audio > Edit Audio
drag the trim handles to obtain the duration you want

  • I have created an extensive slideshow w/music on my MacBook Pro iPhoto. How do I export a slideshow so that I can burn a DVD from it? "Help" does not offer info for this request, only if you want to export to another Apple device.   Help!!!

I have created a lengthy slideshow with music on my MacBook Pro under Iphoto.   What steps do I need to take in order to burn a DVD copy of this slideshow?     "Help" does not offer info for this transaction, only if you want to export to another Apple device and it shows that you must first export to Itunes.  Can anyone help me with information on just copying to a DVD?  I don't want to email it or show it on another Apple device.  I want to be able to burn multiple copies on DVDs as a gift......    Can it be done?   I'm not real computer savvy

Connect the device to the computer.
In iTunes, select the content desired to sync.
    Sync.
This is all described in the User's Guide, reading it may be a good place to start.

  • I created a 23 minute slideshow with music. how can I share it? youtube and smugmug both say it is too large?

I created a 23 minute slideshow with music of family vacation. Youtube and smugmug both said it was too large to post for my family.
suggetions please?? I use to use Mobileme...

A few different ways about this. You could split the slide show into smaller sections that are withi the limits for posting and then post each section.
You could try a different encoding to make the file smaller. What settings did you use when you created and exported the slide show?

  • Will  an iPhoto slideshow with music work on all computers in China?

I am making a promotional DVD for an education program in the US, and taking it to China to education fairs. If it is an iPhoto slideshow with music, will it work on all Chinese computers? I assume so, because since it is not video, I should not have to worry about different formats-right? I've got enough to worry about on this trip!
    Prof. Fisher

On every single computer in China? Impossible to tell. But if you create a slideshow in iPhoto and send it to iDVD to be burned to a DVD then it will play on anything that plays DVD.
