Fit to Printable Area

When I print a document using the Fit to Printable Area setting, it puts a thin line at the top and right side of the printed page. I realize that printing with the setting as None will not put in the lines, but I'm wondering if there is a setting that will remove the lines when using Fit to Printable Area.

The second page of a duplexed page is actaully printed back end first, so from the printer's point of view the 0.08" margin actually ends up at the bottom of the page and the 0.46" margin is at the top of the page.
To print both the front and back sides with even margins would require ~0.5" margins top and bottom to accomodate the paper path when printing the back side.

  • Can you set prefs in a PDF: fit to printable area

Setup: Creating sell sheets that can be downloaded from the web by all sorts of folks. Because we cannot count on all end users to choose "fit to printable area" in their print dialog, we would like to preset it in the PDF...
Question: Can we set the prefs in the PDFs so that when the customer goes to print the PDF, it always will "fit to printable area." Any ideas?
    Using Acrobat Pro 8.1.2
    thank you!

    You cannot.

  • Trouble Printing PDF Attachments in Outlook as "Fit to Printable Area"

If this has been discussed before, I apologize. I wasn't able to find the exact problem...
We use Outlook 2007 and Reader X here in my office. When we try to print an email w/ a PDF attachment, the attachment is not printing as "Fit to Printable Area," resulting in very tiny printed PDFs. If we open the PDF on its own, "Fit to Printable Area" is selected by default and the attachment prints as it should. The weird thing is... this is only a problem for some users. For others, the attachments always print as "Fit to Printable Area," even when printed at the same time as the email. Is there some kind of default setting for "Fit to Printable Area" that specifically applies to PDF email attachments? Is there some other reason why this problem only affects some users? Everyone is using Windows XP and we're all going to the same printer.
    Thanks!
EDIT: Does any one have any ideas on this at all? Thanks again.

  • Setting Acrobat/Reader page scaling to "Fit to printable area" as a default.

I know there is a way in LC Designer Form Properties>PDF Print Options to set the page scaling to "none," but is there a way to set the Acrobat/Reader option to "fit to printable area" as a default, perhaps through a script of some sort? This will aid in making sure everything on my form is printed each time. Otherwise, I'm certain some users will overlook this option and will print the doc even if it clips certain areas.
The only other option I have is to make sure the form design content fits within the "typical" print margins (i.e. 1/2" all around) and then set the form prosperities to none. There's no guarantee this option will always work as page clipping could still occur due to various printer conditions (ie. allowable print areas).
    Thanks in advance.

  • "Fit to printable area" and aspect ratio

I have a simple question about the "fit to printable area" function: Is this selection supposed to keep a document's aspect ratio the same, or does it stretch/squash a document so it goes margin-to-margin in both directions? I am getting two different answers from my friendly nieghborhood acrobat experts.

It's the normal default option and recommended for most people because it "just works". It doesn't change aspect ratio. The only time I'd turn it off is if I had a piece whose printed size was critical e.g. architects plans, official form.

  • Force the "Fit To Printable Area" Option in Adobe Acrobat [Reader] Print Dialog

    Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way to force Adobe Arcobat Reader to  always use the "Fit To Printable Area" Option in the print dialog?
If this is possible, how can I achieve it?
    Thanks...

If you only have Reader (that is different from Acrobat, the full product), then your only options would be under the preferences in Reader. If they are not there, then the answer is no. To really get a better idea, ask in the Reader forum. If you have Acrobat, then provide the version to get more specific help.

  • Acro 8 Pro won't Shrink or Fit to Printable Area

I have drawings that originated in AutoCAD that were saved to PDF on 24x36 sheets. I want to shrink or fit them to the printable area on 11x17,but no matter what options I check it prints the upper left portion of the origianl at full scale.
Using Acrobat 8 Pro to print to an HP 5550dn.
Printing works as expected when done from a machine with Acrobat 7.
What the heck is going on?

I have the same printer, an HP Color Laser Jet 5550dn. I am having the same/similar issue as you are. The shrink to printable area / fit to printable area option does not seem to work. If I manually input a scale that I beleive will work, it prints fine.
Apparently the options previously mentioned are not being translated to the printer properly.
For more info on my similar problem, you can read my original thread by searching my user name. I have only one thread posted.
A quick fix is to input the scale manually, but I'm still searching for a permanent solution.

  • Printing rotated when fit to printable area

I'm having a problem printing things right side up. First, versioning:
    Adobe Reader 9.2
    OS: Linux Red Hat
    Printer: Xerox Phaser 8550DT
Everytime I print (without chaning any options, Portrait is selected), what should be a portrait paper comes out in landscape. I can use a normal lpr command from the command line and it comes out fine, this is only a problem printing from the Print Dialog. If I click on properties in the Print Dialog screen, this is the command that is there:
    lpr -P p114 -o PageSize=Letter -o PageRegion=Letter -o Resolution=default -o InputSlot=Default -o Duplex=DuplexNoTumble -o PreFilter=No
The really odd thing is others can print just fine using the Print Dialog in Adobe Reader (this is enterprise Linux) on the same machine. It's just my login that has issues.
Any ideas on things I could check?

Post your problem in the forum for 'Adobe Reader for Unix'.

  • Auto duplexing printable area (C7280 but probably all auto-duplexing HP printers)

I have a Photosmart C7280. One of the reasons I picked it was the standard autoduplexing feature. It has a major problem though:
When not using the autoduplexer, the bottom margin of the printable area is quite close to the edge. However, when using the autoduplexer the bottom margin remains small for the flip side, but becomes larger for the top side. For the top side you basically need 0.5" margin from the edge to prevent cropping of the printout.
This is pretty bad in many cases. But what's worst is that the printer driver does not change what it reports as the printable area when you select autoduplexing. The consequence of this is if you have software which doesn't let you define precise printing margins but lets you fit the output to the printable area, it will fit to the wrong printable area, resulting in cropping of the odd pages. I print oversized documents from Acrobat reader regularly and this is a serious issue.
Is there any way to get in touch with someone at HP who would take this issue seriously so that they might finally either make a firmware update to improve the printable area when duplexing (if possible) or update the printer drivers so that they report accurate printable area when using the auto duplexing feature? Or is this a hopeless case?
    Thanks!

It is possible that some physical damage could have occurred to the duplexer when you cleared the jam. Remove the duplexer and check for a metal/electrical contact on the left side (same side as the ink cartridges) of the unit. There should be a contact there which touches a electrical contact spot inside the printer. If that contact is bent or broken off, then the printer will not recognize the duplexer. If it looks okay, carefully put the duplexer back into the printer, of course make sure that it is correct side up with the contact to the side by the ink, until it clicks into place. This link shows a basic orientation of the duplexer:    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00492277&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=501370
Another document that may help with settings for the duplexer is located here:  http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00492310&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=501370
    I hope that helps.

  • Adobe Reader will not center the printable area on the page

    Hi there,
I have posted a few times about this issue already but have still not gotten an answer so I'm trying again. Adobe Reader will not center PDF files on the page if the printable area is less than 8.5" X 11". I make sewing patterns for a living and have always drafted them on 7.5" X 10" artboards (printable areas)....the art boards are centered on the page when they are drafted. Up until a few months ago there has never been an issue for me or my customers to print the patterns in either landscape, portrait (depending on the particuar PDF's orientation) or autoportrait/landscape orientation. Then about 2 or so months ago I started getting complaints about the top left hand side of the page getting cut off. When I tried printing one of the PDF's myself that was drafted in landscape orientation, and I printed it in "landscape" orientation, the top left side of the pdf did indeed get cut off. When I printed in autoportrait/landscape orientation the pdf printed fine, and for many of my customers this seems to fix the problem. But for many of them it doesn't fix the problem and the pdf still prints with part of it getting cut off regardless of which box is checked for orientation. I've found that if I go to the "pages to print" box and click "other options" then select "current view" this often solves the problem...but then the user does not seem to be able to select which pages to print. This is becoming a major problem for my business (lots of complaints) and would really like to know if anyone has looked at this issue and if the problem will be solved anytime soon. It is not just me but many of my colleagues and 100's of customers. Help! Thank you:)

  • How to resize video to fit in safe area in Adobe Encore

    Hi guys,
Is there any way that my 1024x768 quicktime video be resized to fit the safe area (without using premiere to re-render) using Adobe encore? I've been looking for a solution as to how I can resize my video because when I play it on a dvd player some areas get cropped out and they actually do have inline text. Thing is, I can't edit the video anymore so the only file I have is the 1024x768 one and re-rendering it again via premiere will really take a long time since it's a 30 minute video. Thanks heaps

Exporting to AVI will lead to one generation loss for all the parts that need rendering. The advantage of doing it this way is you can let Encore decide on the best encoding settings. The drawbacks are the generation loss (which is nearly unnoticeable) and the fact that you only have 2.0 sound. If you have the Surcode plug-in and export from PP you avoid the generation loss and can export 5.1 sound. Both advantages, but it requires some careful planning and the use of a bitrate calculator to get the best settings for your movie. However if your movie is less than one hour just encoding at 8 Mbps CBR negates that. The calculator is only necessary for movies longer than one hour.
Another disadvantage of exporting to AVI is the added storage requirement and the extra time to create it.

  • How do I fix a page # outside printable area?

When saving a .docx file in .pdf form, it places the page number slightly outside the printable area.  This did not happen on a previous version of Adobe (my flash drive crashed 2 weeks ago so I've had to load all new software).

    Hi,
I have changed the fonts in word, saved them, and measured them. They are fine. When I save the file as a .pdf, they look fine on screen.  But when I print from adobe, it is adding a half an inch to the bottom of each page. Is there a page layout setting or something? This has never happened before.

  • What's the size of the printable area?

    Hi,
im trying to do some printing using the Printable interface.
But inside the print method I can't find the correct dimensions for the printable area, set by the page object.
Could someone provide me with a print method, which prints a rectangle which outlines the printable area?

  • Printable area / Hardware margins of a Photosmart 6510 all-in-one

I need to know the hardware margins (a.k.a printable area) of my 6510 printer. I am sure this information used to be in the technical specifications but I cannot find it there now. I specifically need to know the margins in both duplex and non duplex modes. The margins I am referring to are those imposed by the printer firmware and physical hardware, not those imposed by software or drivers.
    Thanks,
