Fiters applied with Time Remapping don't work?

Guys,
I'm finding when I use the "Time Re-Mapping" on a clip and then apply another key-framed filter it doesn't work .. although they do work if you don't key frame them.  I guess it kind-of makes sense... but is this purely because the clip is time-remapped?  Is this a 'bug' or is it like that with any NLE?   As a work-around, I can export that time-remapped single clip to an AVI (or other format), re-import the now remapped clip and apply the key-framed filter and it works fine .. which I suppose proves my hypothesis.

The way Premiere works.... probably so.  I think it could be reasonably argued either way.  If it is "normal", I guess I'd like to see an error message or something say "hey, you can't do that on a time re-mapped clip" .. or something like that.
But then, I'd like to see a progression bar fill up as AME loads a project too just so I'd have that warm & fuzzy that something is happening and know my machine hadn't frozen.
Thanks...

    My current version of Chrome is having problems, too! It's so annoying. Anyone have any suggestions now? I basically can't view or download any PDFs because of this.
    Does anyone else think this is a problem not only with Adobe? I would think Apple would have something to do with this? Wouldn't they get some idea from the developer versions that no browser can open PDFs while running Lion!? Pretty bad customer service on the part of a company that prides itself on being VERY customer-friendly. Wouldn't you say?

  • Motion Effect doesn't always work with Time Remapped clips

    Hello all. I used Premiere 4 extensively (yes, '4' not 'CS4') and I'm just getting back in to it with CS6. Lots of cool new stuff to learn but I'm happy to see the basics are pretty much the same!
    I'm wondering if anyone has much experience using motion effects on time-remapped clips. If I set 'position' or 'scale' keyframes in the Effect Controls, the changes are not always reflected in the program monitor, depending on the clip. If I try and set keyframes by dragging the video around the program monitor, it puts keyframes in places where I don't expect.
    This doesn't affect all time-remapped clips, just some of them. Or maybe it does affect them all, just to varying degrees, depending on how extreme the time remapping is. I'm guessing now.
    If I were to speculate further, I would say that the motion effect is operating on the clip before the time remapping gets applied. Again, just a guess, which is why I'm asking if someone more knowledgable has any insights before I pursue this much further..
    Many thanks!

    Hi Jeff, thanks for your response! Nested clips, you say? I have heard of these things but I can only imagine what they are and how to use them. Sounds like it's time for me to RTFM!
    There's so much new stuff, it doesn't surprise me that I have to not only figure out the new feature, but the proper workflow to utilize it. I gotta ask: Do you know of any documents along the lines of "how to use modern premiere from the perspective of an antiquated premiere professional"? 4.2 was my bread and butter for many years and I knew it like the back of my hand. As such, it's kind of hard to stay awake sifting through Adobe's docs which generally assume no prior knowledge; although you giving me a place to start is a big help! But like I said: I gotta ask because it'd be great if there was something just for 'people like me.' (ain't it always the case? )
    Again, thank you.

  • New development with time remap tool

    It turns out my time remap tool works just fine in other projects just not this one. I do have alot of still shots with some motion graphics which is starting to extend my render times extensively. My question is, how do I solve this rendering time problem? Is there a way manage rendered footage better? Compress it? I'm new to this motion graphics and would appreciate any help.
    thanx
    John

    John,
    Keyframing smooth moves takes a little bit of practice and a BIG Canvas window to really see what you're doing. You'll be using the Canvas window and the Motion tab of the Viewer window a lot for this.
    Once you have the Canvas window up-sized (but still keep it at "Fit to Window" or smaller), set it to Image+Wireframe mode. When you click on or highlight a clip in the Timeline, you should see the Wireframe for that clip in the Canvas window (as long as the playhead remains over that clip). But first, double click a clip in the Timeline to load it into the Viewer window then open the Motion tab.
    Depending on what you want to do, you can approach most keyframed motion tasks two ways; move the Wireframe in the Canvas window, or enter values in the Viewer window. I usually do a bit of both.
    When you set a keyframe that shows up as a green dot (Scale, Rotation, Crop, Opacity, etc), you can right-click on that keyframe and select "Smooth" from the contextual menu. You'll see the purple bezier handles added to the keyframe. You can leave them as they are, or you can move those handles to manipulate the desired action. But for items like the Center control (black dot keyframe), you don't have this option in the Viewer window. Say you want to move the center point over the duration of the clip. Set the beginning and ending keyframe - or just set the beginning keyframe then move the playhead to the end point and manually drag the Wireframe in the Canvas window to the new location and FCP will automatically add a new keyframe. You should now see the path of the clip shown in the Canvas window displayed as dotted line. Right-click on the end or beginning keyframe and select "Ease In/Ease Out" from the contextual menu. Now you should see the same purple bezier handles added. Again, you can use the handles to smooth out movement, or slow down or accelerate a clip (by extending or shortening the length of the handle). If you have a multiple keyframed motion path, you can make wonderfully smooth curves with the bezier handles.
    For more info, look up Bezier in the user's manual, or better yet, go to Amazon.com and buy Kevin Monahan's book; "Motion Graphics and Effects in Final Cut Pro."

  • Pixel Motion with time remap. Am I missing something?

    I have a 720p 59.94 fps clip of an rc quad flying. Ive time remapped it and applied Pixel Motion but the little quad chops very badly while the background is very smooth during the slowest part of the time remap.
    As a control measure, I did the same clip with only frame blending, no Pixel Motion, and the quad is smooth, however the whole scene isnt as clean as would be with Pixel Motion.
    Am I missing something?
    Heres the two clips; the 1st one is frame blending, the second is frame blending/Pixel Motion. Why does the subject(quad) skip badly?

    It's inherent in how the two two methods work differently - one favors large, contiguous areas, the other works better with only tiny motion differences. The problem is that when using pixel motion to the algorithm your copter doesn't move much. No motion, nothing to blend. You can always try the Timewarp effect and tweak its parameters, but short of masking the copter and combining the two you won't get a perfect result, either, most likely.

  • Expression help with time remapping

    Hi
    I have a 25fps Precomp with an animation that changes on every frame.
    In the master comp I want to apply an expression to its time remap property so that it holds on each consecutive frame for a given duration, eg on Frame 1-15 we see frame 1 of precomp, on frame 16-30 we see frame 2, and so on.  I can't figure this out. Tried posterizeTime and some other bits to no avail and can't find it elsewhere on the web.
    Thanks, Steve

    <Big sigh of relief> Thank-you Dan.
    I read your expressions everywhere on the web and when I need a little help you are there within MINUTES!

  • Help with Time Machine Backups not working..

    Let me preface this by saying I have spent the last day scouring the internet for solutions to my problem. I have tried every option that I have run across and have had no luck in resolving my problem. As a last resort, I'm turning here in hopes that you can be of help.
    I have a 2012 Macbook Pro running Moutain Lion.  I use an external HD for my time machine backups.  I am having an issue with Time Machine not functioning.  The initial error message I receive when I attempt to use TM to backup is:  "Time machine couldn't coplete the backup to Rick's backup disk". "Unable to complete backup. an error occurred while creating the backup folder".
    I searched the forums and net and found several things to do to try and resolve this issue.  My computer will freeze out and not let me erase, or re-partition the the hard drive, so I switched it over to an older macbook of my girlfriends and am successfully able to erase, and re-partition the drive (using disk utility) as suggested by several forum postings I have read.  I am able to run disk verify and disk repair and both say the disk is "ok" with no issues.  The moment the erase and partition is done, her computer prompts a message : "Would you like to use this disk for Time Machine Backups" which tells me it is working properly.  When I move it back to my macbook pro and attempt to run TM backup, it will now work and copy about 10g of my 120g before shutting down with this error message:
    "Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to "Rick's Backup Disk".  An error occurred while copying files. The problem may be temporary. If the problem persists, use disk utility to repair your backup disk."
    If i attempt to re-run TM at that point, I get the original error message:
    "Time machine couldn't coplete the backup to Rick's backup disk". "Unable to complete backup. an error occurred while creating the backup folder".
    If I move the TM back to my Girlfriends computer and attempt to run TM, it will function properly and backup her entire harddrive.  When I erase and try again on mine, I always end up back with the same issues.  It's clearly something in my macbook that is screwing it up.  Can anyone please offer some help! I'd be much appreciative.

    Not one of Apple's more informative messages.
    There's a problem with a file on your system.  See #C3 in the above link. It will show you how to locate the message(s) that describe the problem, then help you fix it.    If that doesn't help, post back with details, including all the messages, what you've done, and the results.

  • FCP XML to Flint - Problems with Time Remap

    My Flint artist and I have had some problems with the XML Export and Import that we cannot figure out. The XMLs from FCP sequences that have variable speed Time Remaps applied show up on the Flint with those particular clips with the wrong in/out points in both the source and record times. Also, the speed ramp info doesn't show up properly.
    We have followed the Flint manual to a T on importing correctly. Anyone encountered this or know a solution? Especially why it's throwing off the in points. It screws the whole timeline when that happens.
    Thanks in advance.

    The TimerEvent target is a flash.utils.Timer object and does
    not contain a reference to your lblTimeUntil label.
    Recode
    trace("Seconds Left" + evt.target.lblTimeUntil.text);
    to
    trace("Seconds Left" + lblTimeUntil.text);
    and you will not blow up anymore.
    This code will display the count up till refresh.
    public function onTick(evt:TimerEvent):void {
    var minuteTimer:Timer = evt.target as Timer;
    lblTimeUntil.text = minuteTimer.currentCount.toString();

  • Time Remap expression not working when targeting parent.parent comp.

    I created a character rig and I'm trying to set it up so most of the keyframing is done on the main comp instead of the sub comps. Most of the body is set up in the main comp except the head which is in its own sub comp. In this Head_Comp, i have two more sub comps, SideHead_Comp, and FrontHead_Comp. In both of these comp i have the head base, eyes, eyebrows, mouth, etc.   The mouth is in its own comp set to time remap from the head comps.
    Quick Breakdown:
    Body_Comp
              > Head Comp
                             >FrontHead_Comp
                             >SideHead_Comp
                                            >Mouth_Comp
    What I'm trying to do is be able to animate the mouth comp from the main body comp. I've done this with the eyes and eyebrows using dummy objects on the main comp, but when I try to "parent" the time remap of the mouth comp from each of the head comps to a slider in the body comp, nothing happens. The mouth comp will take the current position of the of the slider value and that's it, it won't change if I move the slider around. I'm doing it this way to avoid having a bunch of different copies of the head comps when I'm animating different scenes. I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing wrong.
    Here is the expression I used.
    a=comp("Diane - AE Rig").layer("Body_CTL").effect("Mouth_Control")("Slider")
    framesToTime(a)
    I've tried different expressions, but all it does is change to the current value and thats it. It won't move when I move the slider.
    Thanks for any help.

    If one or more of your subcomps doesn't start at time zero as a layer in its parent comp, you have to compensate for that. It's tricky with multiple levels, but basically you end up with something like this:
    a=comp("Diane - AE Rig").layer("Body_CTL").effect("Mouth_Control")("Slider")
    framesToTime(a.valueAtTime(time + some_offset))

  • Media Encoder fails with Time Remapping

    There is a single 1 Minute Clip in the PR CC 2014 timeline, with some time remapping effects. Exporting with Media Encoder CC 2014 SLOWS DOWN speed of the clip after approx. 30 sec unintentionally and therefore gets out of sync with sound, and ends at a complete different frame than in the timeline.
    However, exporting directly from PR CC 2014 gives correct result.
    Anyway, this looks like a major "feature" of ME!?!

  • Keyframe irregularities with time remapping

    Just thought I'd post a screen grab of keyframe issues I've been seeing in case anyone at Adobe is paying attention. I can't recreate these bugs as they seem to only happen once in awhile. In this screen grab my selected clip is  00017.MTS and it's effect conrols are open in the source side monitor. At the point of the playhead the opacity is set to 0% but it is not fully transparent, it's opacity seems to be more like 50%.
    My system:
    Adobe CC Premier Pro
    Macbook Pro mid 2012
    2.7 GHz Intel core i7
    Nividia GeForce GT 650M 1024MB
    OS X 10.8.5

    The workaround is to do your time remapping keyframes and then nest it into a new sequence. Then apply the opacity keyframes to the new sequence.

  • C Library time functions don't work with WinCE 6.0

    Hello,
    in an WinCE 5 project I have used some time funtions (asctime(), time(), ...) from the C standard library. The functions are defined in the time.h file. Now I try to port the project to WinCE 6, but I don't have success with it, because the "time" functions
    aren't declared in the new WinCE 6.0 SDK time.h header file.
    Why are the time function declarations removed from the time.h file in WinCE 6?
    How do I get the time functions working in WinCE 6.0?
    Thanks,
    Andreas

    You can capture the tick count (GetTickCount) at the "start" and each time through the "loop" and compare determining how much time has elapsed, I guess.
    I usually end up writing this sort of code in a separate thread. The thread and use WaitForMultipleObjects( , FALSE, timeout) to wait for either an exit event from the main thread (always good to have a STOP signal), or an event indicating "message
    received" (in response you will call WaitForMultipleObjects again, restarting the timer, after processing the message or whatever), or a timeout to expire indicating you need to take timeout actions.
