Fitting pictures into a constrained pixel frame

I think the answer to this is going to be no, but, knowing how creative folks around here are, I figured it was worth asking ...
I have a bunch of images, which have various aspect ratios: some portrait, some landscape, some square. I want to create copies of them all such that the resulting images retain their aspect ratio, but are never wider than 1024 or taller than 768, but make best use of this window.
File/Export from Organizer doesn't do it. You set the size limits, but it will create 1024x768 or 768x1024. Not what I want.
Process Multiple Files in Editor doesn't seem to help.
I can do it by hand, of course, but I'm feeling lazy ...
Any ideas? [BTW, I'm using PSE 4 on Windows.]

Juergen
Irfanview did it. As usual, when I try using that program I have to adjust the way my brain works. It went away to do the conversion, said it was successful, but there were no new files. I had to tell it to rename as well, giving the old name ["$N"] as the new name [I was converting PSD to JPG]. Very odd. But I got there. Thanks again for the tip.

Some of the pictures I am trying to use in Idvd don't quite fit into the specified frame... Is there a way to just move the picture itself within the frame to use the best part of the pic... For example I'm trying to use a picture of my son..but his head gets cut off when I drag the picture into the place holder....

When trying to troubleshoot my problem I discovered a forum that was saying certain NTFS drives work just fine
Apple support says that an NTFS or exFAT drive cannot be used when connected to the AirPort Extreme.
I suppose it is possible that someone might have been using some type of special software on the drive that might perform a "conversion", but without more details, it is hard to know.
Note: ExFAT and NTFS formats aren't supported.

  • How can I get my picture into the window to fit correctly?

    Hello,
I'm somewhat of a novice, so please bear with me. I am editing a sequence together that has footage from multiple camera sources. Some of the footage is at 24.00 fps, some at 29.97, some at 23.976.
When I'm looking at the window to see my footage, some of the footage fits completely in the window, and the other half is getting chopped off, so I can only see 1/3 of the image. I divided my footage in half into two different sequences, and the footage looks great, nothing getting chopped off. But, as soon as I combine all of the footage into one sequence, something is getting chopped off.
What is happening? Both of my sequences are set to 23.96. So, theoretically, they should look the same in either sequence, correct?
I just want all of my footage to fit correctly into one sequence so I can see the entire picture of each clip.
    Thank you so much,
    Nicole

I would suggest you work out which footage is the "smaller dimension".  (pixel x pixel resolution)
Create a Sequence that matches that
What may help is to click the NEW ITEM link on page #5 of The PPro/Encore tutorial list http://forums.adobe.com/message/2276578
...and copy and paste the other footage into using the Scale to Frame size option.

  • How do I insert a picture into iMovie regardless of aspect ratio

When I insert a picture, i either have the choice of cropping the picture or having black bars on the sides. How can I insert a picture into imovie and not be dictated based on the aspect ratio. thanks

    nope, never.
    look:
    example #1: a 1:1 pic in a 16:9 screen
    option A bars l/r
    option B cat-off
example #2: a wiiiide screen pic in a 16:9 screen
    option A bars t/b
    option B catcut off
and you don't want kitty look like that:
(1:1 aspect ratio distorted to make fit onto a 16:9 screen)

  • After PreRend. - Last frame of a clip is copied into the first 2 frames o. t. following clip

    Hey Guys - Michi here,
and I am dealing with a horrible problem!
I just got rid of Premiere CS6 (Where I was dealing with the same problem) and got the new Version of Premiere. I really love it!
Heres the Problem I am dealing with:
Everytime i've finished a sequence i go to:
    Sequence -> Render Section.
Then the Rendering Window pops up and PR CC does his job.
But when replaying the prerenderes section i noticed something.
I zoomed that much into timeline so i was able to see every frame of the clip - because the play back seemed kind of OffBeat to me. And the thing that happend to every clip that was directly laying beside another clip - so there was no space between them - was, that after the PreRendering Premiere CC (and CS6 DID THE SAME) copied the last frame of the clip into the frist two frames of the following clip - so the are reeeeally tiny "still" pictures between every transitions. -> And that means, that the clip that is shown in the "Program Window" - Monitor in which you can preview the PreRenderes Video - doesn't change to the beat I've edited it on, BUT it changes 2 frames later!!
    Here are some screenshots:

    http://up.picr.de/16781445al.jpg       Pic 5
In Pic. 1 you can see, that the Marker (the red thin bar) in the Timeline is laying on the last frame of the clip on the left - the clip is called GoPro2130.MP4 (120%).
If i move the marker now over the the first frame of the clip called GoPro2130 (114.99%) the preview should change - but there is still the frame that was shown in the preview window at Pic.1
Now i moved the marker over for another frame (Pic. 3) - The same frame that is shown in Pic. 1 & 2 is still on the preview window.
NOW i moved the marker over for another frame (Pic 4 - 3rd frame of the new clip) AND NOW the clip finally changes although the clip should have changed 3 frames before..
ITS HORRIBLE!! I really dont know what to do..
Sorry for the huge text and the bad english (Student from Germany).
You guys are my last hope.
    Regards, Michi.

Thanks for your suggestion about using the clip markers.   I tried them on a test clip.   They did not come down to the timeline.  Besides, I would want them labeled.   Right now all my clips have a marker that is labeled with the date and location.   The chapter markers are labeled the same way.   I have a spread sheet that list the dates of all the Chapter Markers which connect to the dates on the menu.     This seems like an old fashion way to do things for such a sophisticated software.   Maybe I should put in a feature suggestion to Adobe.   I would do that, but I am afraid that I may embarrass myself as being the only one that ever asked for something like that.   Or they would accuse me of misusing their software.
    Again, thanks for your suggestion.

  • How to cut and paste a picture into a shape in Illustrator CS4

In illustrator CS4 I am trying to cut and paste a picture into a shape. In freehand the shortcut was so easy. I know there is one in Illustrator but cant remember what it is, can anyone tell me?

    K8,
What Steve said, with the addition that you may get rid of the outlying parts, by:
    1) With the mask selected, in the Transparency palette dropdown select anything but Normal,
    2) Object>Flatten Transparency, no need to change options,
unless you have withheld information and really want to distort the picture to fit the shape, in which case you should select both shape and picture and Object>Envelope Distort>Make with Top Object.
The procedure 1) - 2) is destructive in case of vector artwork but makes no difference with raster images, and it makes it easier to avoid accidental/unwanted selection outside the  Clipping Mask.

  • I want to insert a picture into a body of text in a blog entry page.

This has me stumped. I did it once but cannot do it again.
How can I place a picture into a body of text? I have a print-out from the HELP menu but it is not clear. It talks of inline and fixed objects. I think I want a fixed object -- one that does not move along with the text as the text grows/moves along the page incrementally.
Because I am working with the photo on a blog entry page I cannot do the Choose Insert > Choose > Select the file, and click insert. I cannot because (1) The picture has to stay on the page in that Magic Frame, and (2) the choosing capability of the iWeb program does not enable someone to go inside the iWeb program and land on a certain page.
I am working on the blog page. Instead of a tiny little picture of a doll at the top of the page, I want to raise all of the text and put the little doll's head inside the text body.
I am so stumped. The instructions are not clear at all.

Well i did exactly what your trying to do...go to
    http://www.mac-switch.com
and view the blog "power button shortcut"
Go to the section you want to add the photo
to...Click "insert" then "choose" and choose the file
you want to put in there.
    Good luck
    Rob.
    Hi Rob......
You know, I went to that Power Button Shortcut blog and for the life of me, your point went flying over my brains -- I just did not get what point you were making to me. The Power Button thing was not what I was trying to do. I was trying to put a PICTURE of a doll's head inside a body of text. That means I had to get text wrap to kick in, and..........
But the bottomest line is, I finally did it. I don't know how I did it because I was in a state of just clicking around, trying to move text. It's a long story to duplicate, but I went through several steps and since it was just desperation moves I was doing, I don't have a set of notes to go by for the next time.
The hard part, or one of them, was to get the Text Inspector to make he Text Wrap workable. For a long time , no matter what I did, the Text Wrap option remained greyed out. It was maddening. Then for reasons that I cannot recreate in an orderly fashion, I got the Text Wrap option to get bolded out, and thus an option.
Thank you for trying. BTW, I think your pages look wonderful and very slick (which I think is the right look for what you want to do with your website).

  • Insert  a  Picture Into a Panel....

How can i insert a picture into a JPanel.
Actually I want to show the picture only to the left hand side of the
    JFrame.
    Kindly help me.
    Thanx

I would suggest to use a JLabel instead of JPanel.
And then go ahead like described in the other tips.
The JLabel can then be placed whereever you want inside your frame.
Btw. if you just need something like a dialog - with a label to the left side, few buttons and some objects inside - I recommend to read the tutorials for JOptionPane - it is much easier to use this class instead of doing all the code on your own.

What I said--go to the Window menu and turn on the application frame.

  • Importing pictures into the item master data

    Hello, everyone,
I want to import pictures into the items master data - does anyone know which size the picture should have?
The problem is - i just tested it with some pics of 640x480, but the placeholder in the item data must be smaller, so the picture is scaled down and as result of that it doesn't look good (the colors are falsified and there are also some artifacts). If I double-click the picture and it's opened in an own window in its original resolution - everything is fine..but i want a good quality of the picture in the item data already.
So my first idea was to make pictures of the resolution of that placeholder in SBO, but i don't know how to get this. Any ideas?
    Best Regards,
    Leon Detzel

    Hi Ulrich
The picture size does not matter, but rather a setting in Administration > System Initialization > General settings > Display TAB. On this tab you will find a setting with a drop down called "Ext. Image Processing". Set this to full and the full quality of any pictures will be used, but of course resized to fit the field. Bear in mind that images are not embedded in the tables but only the file name of the image is stored in the table.
    Kind regards

  • Text goes fuzzy when picture is placed in graphics frame

I have been using InDesign for over a year and love the software. One thing continues to drive me mad and I dont know whats going on.
Basically when I add a picture into a layout, often (but not always) the text goes fuzzy similar to anti-aliasing being turned off (its not). It just did it again this morning. I have laid out a drop dead simple business card, text is crisp. I add a graphics frame and everythings still OK. I place my PSD file into the frame and bang the text goes fuzzy. If I select and delete the graphics frame the text sharpens up again.
I have had many situations where it does the same thing but also times when it doesnt. I can see no obvious link between what I am (or am not) doing and why this happens. I also considered that this was just a display issue and it would be fine when sent to a PDF but the quality of the text in a PDF is noticable less with the graphic than without it even at "press" quality.
    All help and suggestions appreciated.
    Jon

Check the pages panel and see if there is a Chequerboard beside the page. This indicates transparency in the PSD.
Does your psd have a transparent background?
Try opening the psd and save it as a tiff.
Select your image in photoshop and create a path. Change the path to a clipping path.
    Save it as a tiff.
    Place the tiff.
    Go to Object>Clipping Path Options
Choose the path you created in photoshop.
Is the text still fuzzy? Just need to check that it is actually the PSD that is causing it, and making it a flat tiff with a clipping path will clear that up if it is.
You only need to have the background transparent if you're placing the image on a colour other than white, usually. So if the image doesn't need transparency in it or a transparency background the leave it flattened with a white background, but retain a clipping path if you ever need it.
Usually PSD files are fine to place and to use in InDesign.
    Well hope something here helps.

When I add pictures into MUSE , do the pictures resize for web quality (And so the page loads fast enough) or do I have to do this using an external software like photoshop, etc. ?
Also is there any way I can change the contact form email for all of my contact forms at once.
I have over 100 contact forms and i want to make them reach the same email anyway I can do that without going one by one?

If you have placed the image in Muse using File > Place and then scaled the image down in Muse while editing, then Muse publishes/exports the scaled down/optimized image in final output. When using as a Fill, the output size depends on the Fitting option you setup in the Fill options.
As for the contact form email, you would need to specify the email address for each form individually. There is no workflow to edit the same for multiple forms at a time.

  • Fitting image into a custom outline?

Hey, I recently started using Illustrator and Photoshop, and I need some help.
So I have an image that just uploaded. I would like to make that image fit perfectly into a shape.
For example, lets say I have a picture of a patch of grass, and an outline of a small hill. I want that patch of grass to be inside the outline of small hill and then I can stretch and edit and fit it perfectly.
Is there any way I can do that? If not on Illustrator on photoshop.
Also, I have an image that I uploaded of a an oversized jacked that I want to make slimmer, is there anyway way to do that? I used liquify but it turned out really weird.
    Thanks in advance.

You should first make clear if you are doing stuff in Photoshop or in Illustrator. This forum is about Illustrator, so people assume you are using it. And while there are concepts that work in both, you still need to do it differently.
Second: please read the documentation or you won't understand a word of what people are trying to tell you. There is ne easy recipe in complex software.

Does anyone know how I can put 9 pictures on one pdf page and have room to descirbe the photos on the page also?
Greatly appreciate any advice. Currently I'm taking 27 pictures and creating 27 pdf pages, and typing on the photo to describe it. Would love to have the 27 pictures fit on 3 pages and leave white space between the photos to describe them.

Hi. After loading a picture into Photoshop some of the menu tools are greyed out and I cannot use the keyboard short cuts, for instance I cannot use Ctrl + T for free transform, how do I resolve this problem. In addition the tool Icons are so small I have to get close to the screen to see them, is there anyway the Icons can be made bigger without reducing the resolution of the screen.
    Thanks
    Derek

Are you working on a background layer? If so, Ctrl + T will not work. Press Alt and double-click your background layer to convert to a normal layer (or right-click BG layer and select Layer from Background) and try again.
If you're working in Photoshop CC 2014 you can go to Preferences > Experimental Features and tick "Scale UI 200% for high-density displays" to make your buttons and icons larger.
