Fix for distorted sound in itunes ver 7.0

Right-click your mouse button on the quicktime icon in your system tray, then click on quicktime preferences in the popup menu that shows up,...then click on the audio tab(it'll be on the top next to the other ones)....then change the sound out rates to the following:
rate:48kHz or less
size: 16 bit
then click the apply button on the bottom.
then restart your iTunes.
A rather simple fix but it's surprising Apple didn't come up with it on their own. Hopefully one of the Monkey's in charge of coding the most unwanted Quicktime will eventually fix the problem so it supports 24-bit sound.

I had an unrelated problem that was fixed in a similar way.
After installing iTunes 7, I could only play Podcasts and Movies. The solution was to go to the Sound preferences, click on the Output tab and reselect a sound output source. iTunes works fine after that.

Is there a fix for distorted audio on iTunes 10.5 ?

I installed iTunes 10.5. Now I get disorted audio on all mp3 files. It does not matter if the files are old or newly downloaded. These same files sound fine in a competitive mp3 player. This seems of eliminate OS and driver problems. Other people are posting similar problems with the 10.5 upgrade. I have not tried a restore to an earlier version. I have tried a complete uninstall and reinstalltion without sucess.

A lot of people are having problems with iTunes 10.5 and older AMD and Intel CPUs. From what I've seen, it looks like when Apple removed the Quicktime dependency in itunes 10.5 they didn't get the decoder right for MP3 files and it fails when the CPUs don't support the SSE2 instruction set.
That's why it impacts playback through iTunes, but not on other devices.   I've been submitting help requests but so far Apple hasn't acknolwedged the problem, although I did see one forum thread (https://discussions.apple.com/message/16554893#16554893) that implied they were working on it.

Do you really mean the latest, as in 11.0.1? That was supposed to include a fix for Airplay.

-FIX FOR NO SOUND ON VIDEO CLIPS PUT ON iPOD-

Hi, I was just playing around, trying to get an .mpg (MPEG-1) file to play on the ipod. I exported it with QT using the 'Export for iPod' option, the video worked, but there was no sound, I know that a lot of people are having this problem. Here is how I got an old MPEG file to work on my iPod video: (PS: You have to have QT Pro, I used 7.0.3 Pro)
1) Take your original file (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, or AVI, etc) and open it in QT and then go file 'Save As', select 'Self Contained Movie' and then hit save. This will make a copy of the movie, but put it .mov format.
2) When it is done, open the .mov file it just created, and using the QT Pro 'copy' feature select the entire movie (Cmd+A) and then copy that (Cmd+C).
3) Open a new QT player (Cmd+N) and then hit Paste (Cmd+V). It should have copied the movie from the .mov file into an UNSAVED New QT Player window.
4) Now, go File>Export... (Or Cmd+E) and then select 'Movie to iPod' in export to dropdown. Name your file and hit save, it will begin exporting the file into a .m4v file. (Which the iPod likes)
5) When it is done, which can take a very long time (It took me at least 5-7hrs to export a clip that was 1hr long)
6) Drag the newly created .m4v file into iTunes, update your iPod, and the iPod should read it and it should have video AND sound together nicely, which has been the big problem.
Try this out maybe copying a very small portion of the movie (back at step 2) to a new player, maybe 10-20sec worth as this will not take very much time to export to the .m4v file and will allow you to put it on your iPod to test it out and see if it will work.

I have also found a fix for this (MAC only probably). It requires 2 free apps, and it doesn't take horribly long, I think one of the apps does the same exact thing as quicktime pro when you export from there, so it might take a while.
1. Download the app MPEG Streamclip.
2. Download the app MoviesToGo
3. Open your muxed video in MPEG Streamclip
4. Go to File>Export To Quicktime
5. Choose a Quality then Make Movie (this goes fast)
6. Open the created movie in MoviesToGo (or another iPod Video Exporter)
Then your video will be able to play on the iPod with sound, and its free.

Fix for cannot connect to iTunes store

I have been working on this problem (iTunes for Windows) since April 2012 and finally got it working. I have gone through all the suggested "advanced" trouble shooting procedures with no luck. I even tried opening a work order with them which was a waste of time because they had me retry everything I had already tried and never read my responses. I am attaching all my notes on what I have tried since the beginning. What I think was the issue all along was .net 4. The fix was listed in 12-03-12 where I removed everything, including .net 4, installed an earlier version back when iTunes was still working. I am now running version 11.0.1.12 and it is still working, Good Luck!

Removed .NET (it was ver 4)
Rebooted and retried iTunes, still no iTunes store.
Removed iTunes ver 10.3.1, rebooted and reinstalled iTunes ver 10.3.1 with no .NET stuff at all and it worked.
So iTunes didn't need the .NET stuff to work but it must have been corrupted in a way that won't let it connect to the iTunes store correctly.
Next I am going to upgrade to the latest version without .NET to see if it still works. If not I will fall back.

When I called Apple (after wating 42 min. for a live person) I was told to run the APPLE Software Update and turn off location services then restart my computer. There were no available updates. The iPod touch I got on Christmas day. The iTunes app was downloaded the same day. Since day 1 I have not been able to connect. After restarting my computer:
From the iTunes app I click on the 'iTunes Store'
A new window opens and I get the following message:

So I click on 'Review' and am taken to a crude screen that says

So I click on 'Continue'
A pop up window says:
We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-1202).

And the only option I am left with is to click 'OK'
After every fix this same scenerio just loops and loops and loops

Terribly filtered, and distorted sound from iTunes.

My songs will play in iTunes, but they sound heavily filtered, and distorted. I tried playing the same original files from the original folders with multiple other media players, and had no problems. I thought I had done something when I was doing some batch editing for genre, eq, and volume settings, so I re-synced my iPod, to see if it inherited the same sound problems. Everything sounds fine, with the iPod, but for some reason, the iTunes software is distorting the sound. I've been through all of the menus, but have not come accross anything that I feel would possibly solve the problem. I even went back, and reset the volume, genre, and eq settings I adjusted for the tracks, still no help.
What's worse...the next day, I loaded it up, and everything was working again. I had some other stuff to do in my studio, and decided to come back later. When I returned...everything sounded all whacked again!!

Is there a fix for the incompatibility between itunes and Windows Vista?

I'm having a problem with itunes and Windows Vista. When I download itunes it disables my dvd drive. I have found a fix for that by deleting some registry items, but when I do that itunes is disabled. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?

Auto-proxy via file broken? Fix for crashing Tweetie and iTunes

After upgrading to 10.6, Tweetie and iTunes would crash on launch.
I was using a proxy.pac file to automatically set up a proxy when I'm at home (I've got Squid running on my file server). Disabling this (System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxies > Automatic Proxy Configuration) made them work again.
I noticed slowdowns with Firefox and Thunderbird as well, hopefully disabling the proxy will fix that issue as well.

I'll look through both your suggestions. It's not really what I'd call a split library, as the /media/music/... folder structure contains both the music files themselves and the iTunes Library folder.
If the folder with the library files (normally iTunes) contains the designated media folder (normally iTunes Media) which in turn contains all media, including any iOS apps and clickwheel games, in any structure you like, then the library is portable. If it doesn't meet the criteria then it is split. iTunes for Windows doesn't provide access to the last known path of missing files so it isn't possible to use a simple string replacement technique to fix things up. If you were to use my script you'd probably need to run it against the media folders; Artists, Pop, Rock, etc. in turn, looking for the content located within each.

Very distorted sound since iTunes 7 installed

I updated to 7 this morning, and now if I play anything (from library or ipod) through itunes, the sound is far too loud and very distorted (all was normal in 6). Sound works fine in all other apps & windows etc. I can play the same tracks in quicktime & wmp and they sound fine - it's just in itunes.
I was using soundcheck. Turning this off/back on has no effect. I did a 'repair' of itunes & still the same. I'll try a re-install.
Anyone got the same or had anything like this before?
Any ideas?

...and made sure the settings were correct (the 'Sound Out' looked wrong on mine, so I set it as shown) and now it's OK again! None of the settings had changed since 6, so it looks like itunes used to ignore those settings, but doesn't anymore (?).

Permissions fix for secure.log and iTunes frameworks

PBG4 showed minor to considerable performance improvements. Once my main library finished running on the Quad, with 6600 traction engine, I started to do some real work.
The following is in Project View on some images with patches/healing and straighten applied.
IT WAS UGLY. SBOD every time I touched anything (yes, all previews completed). 45 secs to open the first image (8Mb RAW from Canon 20d). 5-6 secs. for any touch on Levels or Exposure. IMPOSSIBLE.
Switched off and reduced res. of JPG's in Preferences. No difference.
BTW Apple Devt. Spank time> There is NO way to turn off Preview creation and run as batch later that I can see. Please fix. Agreed they render in background but why not wait until you leave focus on that image .... it's recreating a preview after every adjustment I make. C'mon guys, get real, that should be fixed asap.
Quit Aperture, restarted. Just as bad. Aperture is the only app. running, and Activity Monitor shows 319% CPU with 480Mb RAM just with a Levels change ... sounds high. 6-7 sec. response time for anything I do and 20-40 secs for image rendering, except adjacent images. Quit Aperture.
Decided to run Repair Permissions (RAID = 0 drive). Fixed iTunes frameworks and secure.log. I believe secure.log to be the culprit.
Restarted Aperture and performance improvements obvious. Sliders now work real-time and image rendering a couple of seconds. Reapplied Preferences setting for Previews and no significant performance degradation (though it is interesting watching the task list pause the preview generation when you make further edits.)

It sounds like you should just turn off Maintain Previews for the project you are on (selct prj and change state in top level gear menu in prj pane) - then make your adjustments ( your previews won't be up to date then of course) but the when you are ready to make into previews just select all the images and choose Update Preview manually from the context menu.

Itunes: i want to find a single fix for missing music on itunes rather than using "iTunes: Finding lost media and downloads" on a case by case basis.

recently when i was creating a playlist, i realized that i was missing music from my extensive itunes (12.0.1.26) library. i found the solution "itunes: finding lost media and downloads" and used the general approach to find the music in finder and copy it to itunes. i don't want to do this every time i find i am missing music. is there an automated fix? i want apple to develop a way to automate the fix. can it be that this isn't a problem for many people?
i ask this now because i just looked for music i thought i had but can't find. maybe i am wrong about having the artist, but it has happened on another artist too. i can't trust itunes to tell me whether i have a song or not. i don't want to keep going back to finder, especially when the instructions in "itunes: finding lost media and downloads" doesn't actually reflect my system (os x 10.7.5).
i don't want to try to do a restore. i have never done a restore on my mac (previously a pc user). and, i don't know how far back to take the restore to find the old music. and then music i have added since i lost the old music wouldn't be there.
i understand that there are so many system variables that apple would need to take into consideration with a general fix. but: i am assuming that apple's changes have caused my problem and feel that apple should do something to fix it. perhaps my assumption is incorrect.

limnos, i always have backups. the problem is that i don't know how far back in time to take a restore because i don't know how long this has been going on. and, if i take the restore back very far, i will lose what has been added since the music started to disappear.
i don't even know what you mean when you say "you will check there aren't any broken links (use a script from the Dougscripts web site) before you do a backup."
i agree with you to some extent about not automatically installing upgrades. i'm still running lion and was pushed to it from snow leopard. the problem is that i have a hard time envisioning the changes described in an update to judge whether something is valuable or not.
i have questions about your last paragraph. i'm going to repeat it here and then insert my questions as i go. please forgive my all caps for the moment:

RE: Fix for downloading audiobooks to iTunes issues IOS.7.4

Okay, so I've downloaded Audiobooks from Overdrive Media for years...right into iTunes with no issues. Until this week, right after I updated to IOS.7.4. Immediately after the update, I downloaded a couple of audiobooks, and noticed that they did not "spool" correctly once I dragged them into my Audiobooks playlist prior to syncing.
Once I tried to sync, and go to check my phone to make sure they were there...they were gone. Never showed up on my phone, and they were gone from my playlist. They were in my "Music" folder however, but not in my Audiobooks playlist.
After struggling with it for a night, I called the Apple Help Desk, and to their credit they were great! Walked me through the view only process so they could see what I was actually looking at on my computer, and after about 30 minutes, decided that it was my iTunes that was the problem. I was on the most current version, but for some reason it was not operating properly.
Forwarded very simple How To instructions on deleting iTunes and all associated files and then reinstalling the program (I lost nothing), and it fixed the issue and I'm back to normal with syncing, and have my Audiobook playlists back with my downloaded audiobooks in it.
So, if anyone else is struggling with this same issue...this might help you as well.

I build a small lab. It is regardless to disable CCKM, PMF or Anchor. The problem happens to Windows XP Clients (no Win 7 yet) and Access Points in FlexConnect Mode.
The first connect is stable. If you shortly disable the wlan adapter and reenable it, the client is connected to the wireless network but you cannot transmit any data. But Link test works :-)
After a rollback to 7.4.110.0 you can disable/enable the wireless adapter as many times as you want.

Distorted sound using Itunes

when I play some of my .mp3 files with Itunes I get some slight disortion in sound. Sames .mp3 files will sound fine ( no distortion) with other players such as Windows Mediaplayer.
Anything wrong with my Itunes??? ( I still have version 7.30.54)

It was the Nvidia graphics driver. I had downloaded a new one a few days ago but it looks like it hadn't installed properly as when I checked device manager it still listed the older version.
Re-installed the new one and problem is sorted
