Fix for facetime camera using skype

OS X 10.8.5 broke Video on MacBook Air
Search for the above heading on Google or on Skype Communities. Go to page 14 of the thread and you will find a very clearly articulated solution with screen shots to walk you thru the fix. It is really a very simple process and takes only a few minutes and works perfectly for a mid 2013 Macbook Air.
Unfortunately the Apple support line has no idea how to resolve the issue. The first line support agent i spoke with had never heard of the problem, but, upon further consultation found that this was a well known issue. He said they were working on the problem and it would be fixed "soon".
It is amazing to me that Apple would release an update which renders you ability to use your camera over the internet with any other non Mac computer completely useless. It tells you something about how they think of their customers.

I have this exact problem, but no skin on my iPhone, so that isn't the problem for everyone. Glad you figured it out though. It is frustrating.

Driver for Facetime Camera on Thunderbolt Display - Win 7 in Bootcamp

I have a Thunderbolt display working just fine on a Windows 7 installation using bootcamp on my Mid 2012 Macbook Pro Retina - except the driver for the facetime camera on the display is not installed. The facetime camera on the Macbook Pro did install. The bootcamp driver folder on my USB stick created for the install does not seem to include a driver for this. I have already done a bootcamp driver package reinstall to no avail. Has anyone gotten this working? Can you give me the driver details and how you did it if so?

Now it has gotten worse. I wish I had documented what I had done, but I think it was after I ran some addtional updates. Can't remember if it was the Office updates or the addtional Win7 updates.
But now besides the error message when I try to open my virtual machine in Parallels (which I got both before & after running Bootcamp updates), now 2x at least it did not boot into bootcamp but instead showed that there were problems & the fix screen came up. Again.
I did manage to run the Windows backup on my new WD Passport partitioned back up drive w about 50 GB formatted for Windows & the rest of it for Mac so I can use it w Time Machine.
It backed up files in libaries & personal folders for all users 1.86 GB
But I'm hesitant to go ahead & upgrade Parallels 5 to 8 w the purchased update to download & run as well as doing the upgrade Mountain Lion. It does not seem wise to install new or additional software on top of an unstable Windows/Bootcamp set up.
So wondering my options. I'm guessing that the solution to an unstable Windows OS would be to reinstall it as a clean install. But then the normal thing to do would be to run the updates which took a long time the other day & then messed things up so the track pad wasn't tracking well. Before later causing it to crash.
Just got word from Parallels suggesting a claen install into Bootcamp.
But also considering just installing it as a new virtual machine in Parallels & dispensing w Bootcamp.
I hope this makes some sense. I'm very tired but want to put these questions out there so when I get back to it, hopefully there will be some suggestions/recommendations.

LR3 Fix for Crash when using Develop Module

Adobe tech provided the following fix for my system which crashed when switching to the Develop module.
This is the response I received from Adobe Tech.
Recreating the preferences file corrected the problem.

The information provided was really helpful in understanding the issue.
In order to resolve this issue I would request you to perform the below
mentioned steps in order to resolve this issue:
* Remove Lightroom beta from your system as you have the the full
purchase version Adobe Lightroom 3.0 (Because there may be conflicts
between the Beta Version and original product)
* Try to create new Catalog with some new images and check if you are
facing the same issue with Develop module.
* Check if other functions are working fine like Slideshow, Print, Web.
If the problem still exist after removing the Lightroom beta version
from your PC, then perform the below mentioned troubleshooting steps:
* Re-create the Photoshop Lightroom preferences file.
Re-create the Photoshop Lightroom 3.0 and 1.x preferences files to
eliminate problems that a damaged preferences file might cause. If you
do not delete your 1.x preferences as well as your 3.0 preferences,
other issues may occur.
To re-create the Photoshop Lightroom preferences file:
1. Quit Photoshop Lightroom.
1. Rename the Lightroom 3 Preferences.agprefs file (for example, to
Lightroom 3 Preferencesagprefs.old) and the Lightroom Prefere
nces.agprefs file (for example, to Lightroom Preferences.old) in the
Documents and Settings/[Username ]/Application
Data/Adobe/Lightroom/Preferences folder.
1. Start Photoshop Lightroom. Photoshop Lightroom creates a new
preferences file.
If the problem continues, the preferences file isn't the cause. To
restore custom settings, delete the new preferences file and restore the
original name of the previous preferences file.
* Also Send us the Image size and format on which your are working in
Lightroom hence resulting in this issue.
This should resolve your issue. If it does, please let us know, however
in case it does not; please revert with any new information that you
might want to add which will help us in resolving your issue.

Creating a new catalogue and importing the images does not resolve the problem.
The problem is only occuring on a few images from a particular collection.
Creating a virtual copy also will not edit in photoshop.
Creating a virtual copy and reseting the develop settings will allow the ctrl-e command to work.
However, manually re-applying the develop settings once again stops the ctrl-e command working.

Why cause front camera flicker while in use whether facetime, camera or skype?

It flickers like an old television, a fade of black. Most of the time it works fine but there are random times it flickers, does this happen to anyone other than me? or my iPhone is defective, Anyone perhaps have an idea what causes this flickering* I facetime and skype video alot, also the iPhone gets warm very close to hot point while using facetime or skype videocalls.

What cause* it's a mistype error not why cause. stupid me.

Using MacBook Pro as a monitor for video camera using HDMI

I want to connect my Canon 70D to HDMI port on MacBook Pro so that I can use the MacBook Pro as a monitor while shooting video with the camera? AppleCare unable to provide a solution. Is there a way to do this....and/or an app for that?

You cannot use a MacBook Pro as an external display. To do this, you need that Target Display mode is included in the firmware, and this is only available on iMacs.
However, you can still use your MacBook Pro as an external display for another Mac by using ScreenRecycler

After a tab is loaded, FF keeps the "Connecting" word and graphic(animated circle)after the site has loaded. It doesn't show the sito logo in tab. Reinstalling fixes for a while.Using FF 8 thx

I thought it was flash 11 but disabling this did not fix. Adobe flash does crash a lot, but doesn't seem to be related. If this can't be resolved, can (HOW) I go back to a previous version?

Would you mind opening a new bug on this at bugbase.adobe.com? Please include your dxdiag report, a specific URL and a link to this forum thread.
In the meantime, you might want to try our 11.3 beta or rollback to a previous version of the player to see if that resolves the problem.

TS5419 WHY is there no fix for Facetime on IOS 6???

VERY unpleased to be forced to go to IOS 7 which, apart from my personal opinion on look-and-feel, is SLOWER than IOS 6 on iphone4. So to continue using the same functionality, I am forced to slow my Iphone. How is that customer support???

Text scroll on website is invisible on Mozilla but visible with IE. Used Intuit Website Builder. Thye say it is a Mozilla issue. I have no access to the java HTML code. Even so, how does this get fixed for all who use Mozilla to see?

I am not a web designer. I used Intuit Website Builder to build my company website. The text scroll on the index (home) page is invisible when viewed on Mozilla...but visible with internet Explorer. Intuit said its a Mozilla issue. I am concerned because so many people who use Mozilla will not be able to see the scroll. Help!! BTW, the image scroll on another page on the site (Design A La Carte) is visible on Mozilla and IE.

FaceTime camera lighting is poor

When we bought our iMac a few weeks ago, everything seemed to be fine with the FaceTime HD camera. Just today, however, when we open PhotoBooth, the lighting of the video is very dark, as if we are sitting in the dark. I have checked the front of the iMac for fingerprints in front of the camera or anything thet might make the camera miscalculate the lighting, but I can't see anything.
Is this a hardware issue, or are there any steps I can take before resorting to taking my machine back?

(0) Well done on checking for dirt or stray lighting conditions that might be fooling your Mac!
(1) If you have not already done so, restart Mac and try again.
(2) If your camera still does not work properly, if you have installed third party software that might be causing a conflict with your Mac's built-in camera, follow the developer's instructions and unistall it to see if proper camera function returns.
(3) If the problem remains, you can try Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 suggestions.
The "reset" suggested for your individual Mac model often restores normal function.
BTW, Apple now calls cameras built into current Macs and Apple LED displays "FaceTime HD" camera. However Apple FaceTime cameras respond to the same troubleshooting. To remove this potential for confusion, several of us who post here have sent Apple Feedback that asks Apple to update related knowledge-base articles to include the FaceTime camera name or provide separate articles titled for FaceTime cameras. In the meantime, users of any Mac or Apple LED inbuilt cameras can continue to use Apple's recommendations for built-in iSight in all related knowledge-base articles.
(4) If the problem continues after trying all the above suggestions, yours may be a hardware problem that will require a professional fix.
Unless you have a current backup, make one now.
Then use the final "Troubleshooting" suggestion:
"... contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service."
(5) If you want to try one other thing that sometimes helps, use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions and then download and apply the latest Combo Update, for your Mac OS, the current one is at:

Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart that completes the Combo update.
Properly applying the Combo version of updates can sometimes correct problems like yours. However, you may be wise to have your new Mac professionally checked out, particularly if you notice any other problems.

SkypeToGo is to facilitate calling from cellphones at Skype's low rates. The service uses the cellular network rather than the internet so you don't need to be online to use it.

Facetime camera image is very dark.

It was working ok but since the kids started using the effects today the image is always dark. This is the same for facetime and using the camera in the photobooth. Took a photo but cannot see image. The room is well lit but this does not seem to help. Any ideas why this is ?

I accidentally deleted QuickTime from my computer. Then I did a system restore and retrieved it. Now Itunes can't find QuickTime and will not open. Is there a fix for this without my Ipod?

Hmmm. There's a couple of things that might be going on with that one.
Let's try an uninstall and reinstall of QuickTime first.
If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel. Select "QuickTime", click "Change" and then click "Remove".
If you're using & or Vista, head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select QuickTime, and then click "Uninstall".
You can get QuickTime back either via Apple Software Update (in your Start menu go "All Programs > Apple Software Update" ... QuickTime should appear in the "New Programs" section), or by downloading a QuickTimeInstaller.exe from the following location:
