FIX - for greyed out music

I only ever leech from these sites so this time I thought I'd give a little back.
Symptoms:
Greyed out music in iphone music library.  Nothing would play, apart from the music I discovered I could download wirelessly from itunes store purchases (music I already owned).
I have read every reply to every thread for the last 2 years since this problem occured.  I tried them all: uninstalling itunes on my pc, changing the language of my iphone; cloning my office itunes identity (very complicated); synced, unchecked everything and re-synced,  hard reset of phone etc
Fix:
I unchecked all of the music from my sync list on itunes and synced in the normal way.  There shouldn't be any music left on the iphone, but there still was!?
I deleted all the music from my iphone music library manually and synced again.  The audio was now empty.
I now checked the playlists and songs I wanted and synced again.  Fixed!
There were obviously some corrupt audio files on my iphone preventing a succesful sync, probably caused by a bad sync or premature termination of sync etc.
Anyway this worked for me.

YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER !!! This has been driving me mad THANK YOU THANK YOU THANKYOU !!!

  • Solution for greyed out wi fi  have done reset settings

any ideas for greyed out wifi  have done the settings reset as suggested on apple site

Try doing a restore in iTunes http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414. Make sure you make a backup of your device first http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766 then restore and setup your phone as new.
If that doesn't work you have a hardware failure and you should contact Apple Care for support or go to an Apple Retail Store.

  • I can't delete songs on my the greyed out music on my iPhone

I can't delete songs on my the greyed out music on my iPhone. I've tried deleting it all by going on settings > general > usage > music and deleting it there but it just stays there despite saying 'music: no data'. I've tried unticking the songs when i plug my phone into itunes but it just comes up with a grey exclamation mark and i've also tryed just syncing my muisc and that doesn't work either
I don't want to restore my phone though because i don't want to lose my texts or notes, helppppp

I wouldn't - uncheck Sync in Music tab of iTunes then re-sync and see if your music disappears from your phone.

  • TS1559 still no solution for greyed out wifi and bluetooth - what to do? been messing around with it for weeks and now discover I'm just outside of warranty period? WHAT?

I am in such a predicament - phone not been quite right since the 6.1 update and I was tolerating the inconvenience of switching off and on etc etc for the past couple of months and now the wifi and bluetooth are totally greyed out all the time - did every restore possible including back to factory settings - still no luck - please don't tell me that trying all the solutions over the past 2 months that temporarily worked for a few days at a time will now mean I have timed myself out of the 1 year warranty? arghhhhh (I can't believe that such an issue will create the response 'oh well, your problem - best just buy another one' ???)
I can't just drop everything and drive to the apple store and wait for hours every time there's a 'glitch' otherwise I may as well move nextdoor to the mall. They tell you to try and solve it yourself first - which I did - and now it's not responding to anything I try, will I be told - 'too late, out of warranty'???
I see theres an update for the iphone 5 that fixes wifi bugs - what about us 4s owners? even my 3 year old 3gs is still working on wifi (haven't dared to update it!) so don't start telling me to expect that the iphone will only last 13 months - NOT AT $600 a piece
This is madness and driving me crazy
Please has anyone had any luck fixing this problem???

well, you know how it is - glitches that usually resolve with a hard reset etc
then a restore. then a factory restore....then ..... nothing fixes so I try the next step with apple online - fill out my serial number and find it is a couple of weeks out of date - and then with the holidays who has time to get to the apple store? this is my second 4s handset as it is - first one the glass cracked from L to R without any impact/damage etc - they changed it out automatically because it's a 'known fault' apparently - so technically, this handset is only 6 months old - but warranty is from original purchase date -
never imagined it would turn out to be a warranty issue with the phone - and hey maybe when I get a chance to go to the apple store they'll be sympathetic, but I won't be able to get there till at least Jan 4th as it is. On the other hand, another iOS update might resolve the issue - but how long till that release? at the moment I'm having to use my old 3gs for wifi and 4s for phone!!!

  • This is how I fixed wifi greyed out on iPhone 4S

It happened to me during a trip to Finland, wifi could not be switched on any more after iOS7.1 update, it was greyed out in control panel, I was not able to use hotel wifi, ... that cost me some Euros. Later I found, bluetooth also not working.
But at home, after running a factory reset with iTunes with no success, I finally found the fix with google, my wifi is now working again ! Lets see, how long it lasts. Its 2 weeks now.
Solution, and this is not a joke:
-Place the iPhone on a soft towel or so and keep it switched on.
-Heat it slowly with a hair dryer from the side with the earphone plug.
-After a few minutes, it warns "temperature" and turns itself off.
-Let it cool down. You then can switch it on (wifi still not working).
-Reboot now by holding home and on buttons until the Apple logo comes back. Thats it !
My iPhone 4S straight away connected to my home wifi......and still does for a couple of days now. Also some guys in this forum confirmed that trick to work.
I try to help with this, but you do it at your own risk. On my friends iPhone 4 this did not help.
I suspect, that it has something to do with the control panel. The error occured after switching wifi and flight mode from there. Currently I do only use the settings app for that. Can anybody confirm that ?

You can also try calling Apple per the article posted, or go to another Apple Store, but if you wifi is grey and those steps don't fix it, you will need service (replacement).  Sorry, magic wand is out of batteries and pixie dust is depleted.
    Good Luck.

  • Does anyone know how much apple charges to fix the greyed out wifi?

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

  • Use this mailbox for greyed out in Mail 7

Since upgrading to Mavericks (and Mail 7) I can no longer assign the sent messages folder in Mail.  My IMAP provider uses a "sent items" folder under the inbox which I had previously used Mailbox->Use This Mailbox For->Sent to get it synced correctly across all my devices.  Unfotunately all options under Use This Mailbox For are greyed out since upgrading to Mavericks.  This is the same for all my IMAP email accounts.  I am able to change the settings on my iOS devices but no joy on my mac.  Any advice would be much appreciated.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I'm not sure but I think I deleted the account from the Internet Accounts preference pane instead of from Mail's preferences. Could that make a difference?
Anyway for me the behaviour isn't consistent at all. In three IMAP accounts one does't have the problem at all, one shows the "Use This Mailbox For" options "Sent" and "Junk" selectable and the other two greyed out, and for one account only "Junk" is selectable.
    Strange.
The two accounts that have the problem are from the German provider Strato. Though I don't think it is a provider issue.

  • Auto Smart Fix is greyed out

I want to use Auto Smart Fix on a photo, but no matter what format I save the image in, the Auto Smart Fix and Adjust Smart Fix options are greyed out. The Auto Levels, Contrast, Lighting and Color options are available.
How do I get the Smart Fix to work?
    Thanks.

Also check to see if your image is 16 bit. You can't use auto smart fix on a 16 bit image. If that's the case go to Image>Mode and convert it to 8 bits.

  • How Can I Fix My Greyed Out Wifi Problem On My Iphone 3gs?

I Have A Iphone 3gs And One Week ago My Wifi Area Is Greyed Out And I Am Unable To Turn It On Nor Off, I Have Tried To Reset My Network Settings But It did Not Work, Can Some One Please Help Me?

There is a high probability that it is a hardware failure. You can try restoring as a new phone, without reloading your backup. If that does not fix it te phone needs repair.

  • ITunes Fix for Manually Moving Music and other Media

    Intro
Any iTunes 7.x user who manages their own music library outside of the "iTunes Music" folder might be able to tell you that iTunes DOES NOT respond well after manually moving tracks from one place to another on their computer systems. In fact, any file you move becomes immediately unplayable in iTunes. And, if you're anything like I am, losing several years worth of song rating metadata and playlists is not a good incentive for change. However, one thing others might not be able to tell you is that there's an easy workaround for the problem and you get to keep your playlists, ratings and other info. Read on to learn about the workaround.
    About the Workaround
The workaround is a simple hack I devised after recently transferring a good portion of my music library between hard disks and running into problems with iTunes. The fix steps provided below are intended to circumvent the problems with iTunes and give users the freedom to move songs and other media files on their computers while maintaining the integrity of both the ratings and the playlists. Meaning you won't need to manually update the song locations in iTunes one-at-a-time, which, at version 7.02 is the only way to accomplish this task using the program.
Please be aware that not all information is retained using this workaround. What will be lost are the following: the "Recently Added", "Recently Played" and "Top 25 Most Played" iTunes Smart Playlists; any media file play counts; last played information; and possibly some other data used only internally by iTunes.
So, if you're comfortable parting with some metadata while keeping your cherished song ratings and playlists intact during file relocation, read on to learn how to use the workaround.
    Workaround Steps
The following instructions walk step-by-step through the process of this workaround.
Note: All backslashes used in file paths have been converted to forward slashes so that they will adhere with MySpace XSS security validation checks. These altered paths can still be copy/paste into Windows Vista's Explorer program once the Username is changed to the User Account where the iTunes files reside.
    Preparing for the Move
Before you move your files, do the following:
    1. Close iTunes.
    2. Create a backup copy of the following files:
iTunes Library XML (iTunes Music Library.xml)
Note: Vista users can find the Library XML at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
    iTunes Music Database (iTunes Library.itl)
Note: Vista users can find the Music Database at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
    Moving Your Files
This part should be self explanatory, but while you do it make sure to note the following two things:
    1. The path where the files were previously stored (e.g. D:/Music).
    2. The path where the files will end up (e.g. E:/Music).
    Execute the Fix
After your files are moved, complete the following steps to implement the fix.
Note: Do not open iTunes during this process.
    Hack the iTunes Library XML
Once the files are moved the Library XML file locations will be out of sync. Follow the steps below to update them so that they now reference the correct file locations.
    1. Open the iTunes Library XML with a Text Editor with a Find/Replace function.
Note: Vista users can find the Library XML at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
Tip: Do not try to do this with Dreamweaver if your Library XML is greater than 10MB.
    2. Perform a Find/Replace using the following inputs:
Find: Path from Step 1 of Moving Your Files
Replace: Path from Step 2 of Moving Your Files
    3. Confirm your results, and then save and close the Library XML.
    Delete the iTunes Music Database
Hacking the iTunes Library isn't enough to fool iTunes. Like the Library XML, the Music Database also holds the file locations of all of the media stored within the program. And it's smart enough to wipe out the Library XML hack if iTunes is opened before completing this step.
Ensure you have backed up the iTunes Music Database (iTunes Library.itl) and delete the file.
Note: Vista users can find the Music Database at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
    Back in iTunes
Once the fix is in place you can now open iTunes again. You will notice that all of your playlists, music and other items have vanished. In order to recover them all (with the exception of the Smart Playlists mentioned in the About the Workaround section above) we'll need to import the hacked Library XML file back into iTunes.
    1. Open iTunes and press CtrlShiftO or go to File > Import…
    2. Navigate to and Open your modified Library XML (as pictured below).
    3. iTunes will then begin importing the contents of the XML file (as pictured below).
Note: This process may take a while, depending on the size if your library.
    Wrapping Up
Once the import process is complete iTunes will look almost exactly the way you left it, with the exception that some playlists have been duplicated and the number of songs may be a hair off. To fix this problem delete any duplicate playlists in the "Library" panel in iTunes. You can now test out the changes by selecting an item moved earlier and testing it out. All that's left from there is to let iTunes perform any automated analysis it needs to do and rock on.
      Other OS

    Holy Smokes:
I appreciate your detailed workaround post. My question is this: I use iTunes to keep everything organized (though I'm well aware of the shortcomings...) and can use the simple solution that Chris from CA posted, but I don't have room to consolidate everything. My read on consolidating is that you copy from wherever you have your music located (and right now my music is outside of the MyMusic/iTunes folder, as that backs up to my work server) and so you have to have enough room for all of your music to be copied (and then you delete it from its prior location). That's how Apple describes it in, e.g., http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301748. I ain't go that kind of room. Is there any way to make the move to a completely different PC by following the simple option? From the posting I just linked it sounds like you MUST consolidate whether you use you iPod to move things or use an external drive.
Of course, I can use your workaround, but I thought I'd ask first. Many thanks.

  • ITunes 9 Crash Fix for .m4p Protected Music

Okay iTunes crashed for more reasons than just .m4p files from the iTunes store. However this is what I had to go through with Apple Tech support to fix the problem and figured it might help.
First off grab a copy of the old iTunes 8 from FileHippo.com at this link:
    http://www.filehippo.com/downloaditunes32/5894/
Then make a backup of your iTunes library, the whole folder just to be sure, normally found in your User Music documents.
Next you want to uninstall the apple software in this order:
    iTunes
    Quicktime
    Apple Update
    Apple Mobile Device support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Then restart your computer to fix the registry items on a Windows PC, not sure what to do with Macs exactly.
After, install iTunes 8, restablish your library by importing the "iTunesLibrary.xml" file normally found in your user Music documents. This should prevent all the crashes that you might be experiencing with iTunes starting up, playing .m4p files, syncing ipods, etc. At least until Apple can find a solution.
    Added Note:
Also just experimented with the new iPhone software. 3.0.2 firmware does sync with iTunes 8. You will just be missing some features like iTunes U and the new App Organizer GUI. But at least you will be able to listen to your music and sync your stuff with the phone without crashing.

I'm using a Windows 7 PC.     Completed stes 1-5 above.    Stopped MATCH when it was 3 songs short of completing STEP in the MATCH process.     When I right clicked on the viewer bar nothing happened.    Tried it in several areas of the upper screen including the row where "Songs, Albums, etc" and also in the menu screen (where "File, Edit, etc") appears.   Since none of that worked, I then added "iCLOUD STATUS" in the SEARCH box thinking that may find the errors you had mentioned.   However, that didn't work.    Am I missing a step?

  • Greyed out Music

Why does music on my mac not play on iTunes instead just show as being grey or faded lettering and why is it that they work sometime and not others?

This is the Pages forum, not the iTunes forum:

Is the music from a PC?, because there are formats like .wma that iTunes does not open.

  • Fix for Blown out footage?

    Hello all.
I have to edit some footage shot by a cameraman who was basically clueless and did not know how to operate the iris on the camera... All of the people shot, look like ghosts.. the footage is very blown out...
I know there is no true fix to make the footage look 100% better, but there has to be some tweaking I can do...
I was just wondering if anyone has any experience repairing blown out footage and what exactly (filters, adjusting, etc.) they did to make it look somewhat better...
And suggestions would be greatly appreciated...
    Thanks.
    Justin

    Justin,
More than likely, if the footage is way over exposed, there's no information there on the tape to actually do anything with. Try using the 3 way color corrector to see if you can do anything with brightness and contrast.
What was it shot on? Mini-dv? Betacam Sp? The better the quality format, the more information you may have laid to tape, which will help. (Better color sampling=More information to tape=better color correction ability)
Also, if that doesn't work, depending on the subject matter, you could possibly thinking about making it a really funky video. Thats usually not the best option, but if its a music video or something along those lines you might could tweak the color, to make it all purple or all green or something crazy, and/or do a negative effect on it. Or really funk it up with a old film look and stuff. I'm just throwing out suggestions. I hate doing that, cuz its usually way overdone, and I would consider it the very last option if you can't reshoot. But usually, if it looks like crap to begin with, you've got nothing to work with but crap.
    Hope that helps,
    Chris
