Fix for iMessage/Facetime login error following iOS 7 update
Go into Settings. Correct your Date/Time settings because the update threw them off. This is common with apple updates. It will fix your iMessage/Facetime login errors.
This won't work for the iphone 5...

I have a Verizon iPhone 6 - 128gb Space Gray
While I'm receiving banner notifications for iMessage, my phone will lock up until the notification banner clears. If I'm in the middle of typing, the keyboard will lock up and then resume back to normal once the banner goes away. No matter what task I'm doing with the iPhone, it will freeze up until the notification goes away. The touch screen becomes unresponsive. To be clear, the banner notifications are not freezing themselves. They go away on their own. But while they come in, it renders the phone useless for that 3 second time frame.
The only temporary fix I've found for this issue is to turn off iMessage notifications all together, or just turn off banner notifications for iMessage. This has to be a software issue in 8.1 and needs to be resolved ASAP.
I've troubleshooted every known possibility.
* Reset network setting = Didn't work.
* Reset all settings = Didn't work.
* Wipe Phone completely and start as new (did not restore from back up) = Didn't work.
* Restore as new from iTunes (did not restore from back up) = Didn't work.
* Visited apple store and received a replacement = Didn't work.Jeez, the keyboard lags behind so much and the keys seem offset

Is there a real fix? I can't get imessage to work? I have tried all fixes listed? Ipad works fine sin iOS update, just issue with iPhone 5 and iOS 7.2?
This is a user forum. Why would you ask a question that only Apple could provide the answer?
FYI, I'm having no issues with the battery on my iDevice with iOS 7, nor does anyone I know. Don't hold your breath waiting for a fix to an issue that probably doesn't iexist. Have you bothered to read through the forums and try the recommendations provided to extend the battery life? -
We have multiple devices in our family. On each iPad/iPhone each user has their own apple id for iMessage, Facetime and icloud, but we all sign in to the same apple id for itunes. When one of my kids comments on my shared photostream, it shows my name and not theirs as the commenter. How do I fix that?
CREATE A NEW USER
Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Users & Groups
Decide on whether to setup as Admin or Standard User.
Switch to the New User by logging out under the Apple in the Menu Bar or use Fast User Switching
Fast User Switching allows other users to leave current applications and windows open. Depending on RAM, you might need to log out rather than use FUS. -

We are running yosemite OS X 10.10 and iOS 8.0.2... Is there any way to do this?

About all that can be suggested is to use the feedback form and talk to Apple. They have communicated with some users, trying to get more info to find out just what the battery drain is so they can fix it. Unfortunately with the myriad of operating systems, apps and individual tweaks, there could be several combinations of settings that are draining the battery.
My personal suspicion is that it has something to do with iCloud and the wifi syncing. (My ipad, before I changed the setting, was reaching out to find a sync on a regular basis. And it may still be doing so, however I set my iTunes to not automatically open to keep my device from trying to sync several times in an evening...not to mention the constant aggravation of iTunes opening regularly)
That said, I could be wrong and it could be an app that users have in common, or several apps. -

Will that even help?Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app

• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

i know alot of people have this problem and thought this would help. if your having trouble siging in with your apple id or it looks like its taking ages and fails then go:
go to network preferences
advanced
dns
on the left with the servers add
8.8.8.8
it worked for me
i closed it then restarted then tried sending a messsage to my iphone using my number and it worked

DNS server are the servers dotted about the internet that convert your Browser sending requests for Apple.com to an IP number.
DNS stands for Domain Name System
Your ISP normally has at least two DNS servers and these tend to show in the router or modem automatically.
In some cases they will show up as greyed out number in System Preferences > Network > Advanced Button > DNS tab as well (depending on how the routing device gets them and other factors)
You can manually add these if required so that they are in Dark text.
What happens is that some DNS servers are better at resolving names than others.
To certain extent it depends where your local (ISP) DNS servers are in relation to the place they are looking for.
iChat uses DNS to make Video Chats and Audio Only chats more than it does for text chats.
It is also involved in finding the Apple Server that handles the fact that the Apple ID is going to be linked to iMessages activity. (it seems that some DNS Servers can't find this particular Apple Server)

So, it all started with iMessage. FaceTime had similar log in symptoms as well, but I don't really use FaceTime. The best way I can describe it is with this... Paragraph I sent to my friend, describing my dilemma.
iMessage and everything was PERFECT for about a day, then it stopped working suddenly on my iPad. Then it wouldn't work on both. Then I could sign in on my iPod but not my iPad. Then finally I could log in to both. But it deleted the old send and receive email I was using, so everyone I texted would see an email rather than my name. It WOULD NOT let me add the email again, it would refuse to send a verification email to allow it to work, and would finally just say "error". Now it suddenly stopped working on my iPad and it hasn't worked at all for almost 2 days now. Oh and I only receive notifications for VZ Messages on my iPod, not my iPad. All the settings are perfectly in order on my iPad as well, so I have no clue what to do.
Instagram notifications also have appeared to behave as the VZ Messages notifications have. Any ideas? These are all of my top-used apps, and all of their noticatioms are left broken on my iPad after I added my iPod to my iCloud account, and started using my own Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime.

I have one Apple ID for iCloud that is used on multiple devices. Each user has their own Apple ID for Store purchases. Can I use my Apple ID that is NOT my iCloud ID as a way to get my iMessages/FaceTime on multiple devices?
To clarify, we share an iPad (original iOS 5.1.1).
When I use it, I would like to use my individual AppleID that I use for store purchases so I get MY iMessages on both my phone and the iPad.
It seems to work when I use the iCloud Apple ID (meaning iMessages come through on both units) but when I try to set them both up using my store Apple ID, it doesn't work.

Here's the FIX for one quicktime installation error
Can't believe this isn't mentioned in here anywhere or in any of the threads on the Web. I got help from the Ubergeeks on the Well, where I should have started in the first place.
If you can't install because Quicktime won't install (error -3, error 1402 etc.) and you can't get permissions to enter the registry keys...
Run: regedit
navigate to the folder mentioned in the error message. For me it was HKEYLocalMachine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Quicktime
This seems to be the most often-cited culprit.
Right-click on the Quicktime folder. Select Permissions. Hit Advanced. Click the "Owner" tab. Click on yourself in the lower window. Hit OK.
Install your software and enjoy.
This may not fix everyone's problems, but I bet it fixes the vast majority of those that are similar to the one I had, which I spend hours and hours trying to fix before I simply asked someone who knew what they were doing.
Maybe if the folks at Apple see this, they can, you know, add it to their troubleshooting guide. It's a very common problem.In case anyone is reading this thread, I found a fix for this problem. In another discussion thread, a nice person referenced an article at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93865 that explains what to do with these kinds of permission errors (1402 and 1406). I followed the instructions and also made the changes to the specific line item I had a problem with. Installation ran successfully although there were a couple of error messages about not being able to unregister a couple of .dlls, which apparently is not fatal to the installation.

Using alternative email for iMessage & facetime

My apple id is *******@gmail.com
I have been using my ******@me.com address for all my emails, imessage, and facetime.
I am fully aware that apple will not let me change my apple id & primary address to me.com. So the ******@gmail.com is essentially a username.
However for the past year or so i have had no issue at all using my ******@me.com address for signing into imessage & facetime.
Today i cannot use my *******@me.com to sign into my factime or imessage. It throws up and message saying "Error description not availible" when i try to sign into imessage or facetime.
it only gives me the option to recieve at my ****@gmail.com adresses.
It is to be noted that i can still sign into itunes etc. using *****@me.com as my apple id. also me ***@me.com emails work fine.
So i went onto the edit my apple id page and signed in.

I recently purchased the iPhone & i would like to pass down my iPhone to my daughter (who is 8) so that we can iMessage & FaceTime. I intend on having my AppleID on the phone, so i can restrict purchases from iTunes & the App store. Any suggestions on how to get an iCloud account for her, even though she is under 13?
Each user should have their own icloud account, otherwise they end up getting the same emails, contacts, calendars, notes, reminders, etc. - usually not what you want. But if all have been sharing the same itunes ID, keep it that way, you can have different IDs for itunes and icloud.
If you already have another icloud account, and want to set it up on a device, then go to Settings>icloud, scroll to bottom of screen and tap Delete Account. This only disconnects the device from that account, no data is lost on icloud. Then enter the account ID that you want to use.

I already have two iPhones and an iPod touch, and a Mac set up on my iTunes account. The iPod and Mac each have their own gmail account they use to recieve iMessages (one of them is my Apple ID). The two iPhones each have their own phone number they recieve iMessages from. I now want to set up an iPad on that same iTunes account with iMessage with a third gmail adress to use. When I try to set up iMessage, I am shown the two gmails and phone numbers from my other devices but no option to add another email like all the tutorials say. Is there a limit of 2 emails or something? There is no way I am making a new Apple ID just for iMessage. I tried to look for the option in Messages and Settings. Please tell me if there is a way I can add a third email.

You say you already set up the gmail account App, so you must have added this gmail already??? If you didn't you could not get mail in the App.
When you set up iMessage on the iPad, it must be set up with the unique gmail address. There is no limit to email addresses. I have 4 on mine in iMessage, all unique, one is my iCloud.
