Fix for iPhone Battery Life

Hi, I have done this with IOS 5 through 6 and it works.
I have done this serveral times with my phone, as battery life decreases.  I have not figured out what is the original cause of my battery problems, but every now and again, something starts to dain my battery at a rappid rate, in an hour or two.  This is the fix to reset it.
1 - Back up you phone to iTunes
2 - Go into the settings under General and at the bottom sellect Reset and reset your iPhone erassing all data.
3 - Once it resets and shows you the default "out of the box" screan, power it off
4 - Recharge it FULLY.... I leave it over night.
5 - Power it on again
6 - Restore your settings via iTunes.
7 - Your done
In my experiance, if you skip any of the steps, like not powering off when your recharge or not recharging fully, will result in it still draining quickly.
Hope this works for you.

Thanks JJT2122 !
I added your fix to the list of available fixes that improve  iPhone battery life

  • Maximizing iPhone Battery Life

Regard maximizing iPhone Battery Life, just for my curiosity and knowledge, from a software or hardware standpoint why when we use the iPhone to access data, a Wi-Fi connection uses less power than a cellular network — so keep Wi-Fi on at all times.
    Thank You

Your problem is the same for thousands after iOS update, but Apple does not manifest itself with respect to a possible fix.
My battery works only 2 hours of use.
And detail: with ALL the possible functions of the disabled device.

  • Optimizing iPhone battery life: Between charges and before replacement

FYI. An excellent iPhone battery care article by iPhoneAtlas.com:
Optimizing iPhone battery life: Between charges and before replacement
    http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2007/07/09/optimizing-iphone-battery-life-between-cha rges-and-before-replacement/

OK, I agree that is a completely false statement. The rest of the article is pretty good.
If you assume a linear decrease in battery charge for each full cycle (which it really isn't, but much easier to model in a spreadsheet). Then 80% of original charge after 400 full cycles is approximately 0.8% loss in battery charge per full charge cycle (again this is a simplification, stay with me). This means that after 400 cycles, you are at approximately 80% of your original total charge level. As stated by Apple.
So, extrapolating that out to EOL (end of life) which Apple assumes to be 50% battery charge, it would take approximately 1,000 full charge cycles for your battery to be EOL (according to Apple). It would actually be slightly less than that since it won't be a linear function.
For me, that's 2 to 4 years of use depending on whether or not I continue using the iPhone as much as I have this first full week.

  • IS there a USB Tether Fix for iPhone 4s & iTunes 11.1.1

IS there a USB Tether Fix for iPhone 4s ?
    Mac OS X : 10.6.8
    iPhone : 4s w/ ios 7.0.3
    Additional Apps : iTunes 11.1.1
I had this problem once before with a previous "iTunes" update where  Ifixed the broken "ktext" file. No idea what do do about this snafu. Any suggestions would be appreciated...

OK. Can't edit so here's my reply.
Both names seem to be OK if I want to just carry some tunes on just the sd card it self and then stream the music to the 4S. What I am hoping to find is a way to actually put the music (mp3/4) files on the iPhone 4S directly. Judging by the 2 first posts and by what Amazon has on the two adapters listed by xtremecarbon, it does look like I cannot do this. It bites but that does seem to be the outcome of this.
Again if anybody has any leads or ways of putting music directly on the 4S without iTunes, do let me know. In the mean time I'm looking at the 13" MacBook Air and at the MacBook Pro. I don't think I can twist my wife in getting the Pro and I give her my old one. But I sure will give it a try. At least I know she does like the MacBook Air.

  • FIX FOR: iPhone 4 battery draining fast, phone running hot

I had the same issue many have reported here and in comments on blogs, where their +_battery was draining at least twice as fast_+ as on an iPhone 3GS with iOS 4.
Some threads suggest +_this happens to iPhone 4 when restored from a 3G or 3GS_+, and indeed, that's what I'd done. A few people said that resetting to factory settings and installing everything fresh solved the issue, giving them better battery life than they'd seen on any prior iPhone.
Many of my apps have files or settings stored in them, so I didn't want to have to set everything up again. A fresh install is a real pain.
Deep in an iPhone 3G thread mentioning a similar battery problem after upgrading to iOS 4, someone said they'd deleted all their mail accounts, and set those up fresh, which solved the issue for them. I tried that today, and it worked.
    *_BEFORE AND AFTER_*:
Thursday and Friday, the iPhone 4 went from 100% to 15% in under 6 hours. Today, after this fix, the iPhone 4 is at 87% after 12 hours. Thursday and Friday the phone was hot to the touch whenever I picked it up. Today it's always cool. Apps usage and movement among coverage areas on each day have been exactly the same. The only change was resetting up mail.
    *_STEPS TO FIX_*:
Do this on WiFi so you can sync and check mail fast.
    1. Delete all mail accounts.
    2. If MobileMe user, delete MobileMe account, and remove all Calendars, Contacts, Notes, etc., from the phone (so you don't have dupes when you re-sync).
    3. Turn off phone, and back on again.
    4. If MobileMe user, add MobileMe account first. I enabled all options, even Find My iPhone (Thursday and Friday I had it off, in case it was using power). Wait long enough for contacts and calendars to sync, check to make sure. I use MobileMe mail on Push.
    5. Add back each additional mail account. I have 5. I am in a marginal coverage area, so I set these accounts on Fetch Hourly. I also have "Preview 5 Lines" (I think the default is Preview 2 Lines. This doesn't matter.)
    6. Go into Mail, go to the MobileMe Inbox, and scroll your way down letting the messages come in. You can see them come in when you see the Preview Lines update, and then scroll some more.
    7. Go into each additional mail account's Inbox, scroll your way down, letting the messages come in.
    8. Go to the combined Inbox if you use that, make sure all the messages are in.
    9. The WiFi activity spinner may remain spinning even after Mail says it is done Checking Mail. This is because other parts of mail accounts are being synced for the first time. Let the iPhone sit in Mail combined inbox until the spinner stops. Quit Mail, go back in, and watch the spinner after it's done Checking Mail. If the spinner doesn't stop after < 5 seconds or so, let Mail sit again. Once it's caught up, going into mail will Check Mail, and the spinner will stop a few seconds after as it should.
    10. You're done.
Hopefully your phone stays cool and your battery life reflects the boost from the 20% larger battery. If not, the next step to try is Reset Network Settings, and finally try a factory reset and installing everything fresh instead of doing a restore. Hopefully you won't need to do that. I didn't.

My iphone 4 just started to warm up and the battery is draining quick.  Closed everything and reset to no avail.  Turned off bluetooth, increased push time and checked location settings for new applications.  Weather Doodle was a bit suspicious as it had a purple direction indicator next to the setting.  The only other new app I installed was Lego instruct.  I disabled one of the 4 mail accounts I had that is having network difficulties, went to airplane mode and still I see %1 drain every 10 or 15 minutes.  I'll remove the new new apps and reset to see if it is related to the new apps.  If that doesn't work, I'll try email account reset at home wifi and see if that fixes the issues.
    Thank you for the information.

  • How I fixed my short battery life on iPhone 5, and ActiveSync problems at the same time.

For anyone still having activesync or battery problems I have a potential fix:
    I've had two issues lately.
First, my battery life was draining at an insane rate.  iPhone5 lasted about 3-4 hours before absolutely dead from a full charge.  LTE disabled, WiFi disabled, icloud turned off...about as power efficient as I could make it, and I was hardly using it at all.  I was losing 1% batt every 2-4 minutes.
I solved this problem by removing my work account (Exchange Activesync) from my mail accounts.  Obviously I couldn't stay like that for very long, so after confirming it stemmed the battery issue, I tried to add it back.  Did a bunch of different methods and tests, and what ended up working for me was:
Remove ALL accounts (Had Exchange, gmail, icloud)
    hard reset the phone.
After it came back up, I reset the Network Settings just for good measure.
In Mail control panel, make sure "Default Account" doesn't have an old mail account listed (option may be not even present if you've removed all accounts, but I was having issues earlier where even though I'd removed accounts, it kept listing them in the Default Account/Calendar sections
    Add the Account
    Open Mail
It actually took a min or two to start populating data, I didn't think it had worked, so give it a few minutes.
My battery life issue seems to be fixed, and my ActiveSync account works again.  I've been off the charge for about 4h 40m now, and battery is at 90%, and that's with moderate usage on LTE.
Hopefully this helps out anyone having similar issues.  For what it's worth, I removed/readded my Exchange account several times and it never worked until I had removed all accounts (my iCloud account was the last one to be removed), so if possible, just remove everything.  I had already restored, DFU'd, and tried several other steps.  This was what worked for me.
I have NOT added my iCloud account back yet, but will be doing this now to see if any issues reappear.

I am experiencng rapid battery drain as well. Before checking the forums I have closed apps running in background, turned off LTE, turned off location services, turned off wi-if & turned off Bluetooth...my battery drained to 53% in 3 1/2 hours.
This is my 1st personal iDevice so I do not understand some of the verbiage.
What is "disabled safari on icloud"?

I don't see anything in Safari Settings about iCloud

  • When/how to charge the iPhone for optimal battery life?

I have an iPhone 3G 8GB. I was just wondering what the best way to go about charging the iPhone is, in order to optimise the battery life?
Should you wait until the iPhone is really flat/ low battery and then charge it up full, or are smaller and more frequent 'shallow' charges healthier?
I also heard somewhere that every couple of months or so it is a good idea to let the battery run completely dead and then charge it up, in order to calibrate it or something... but that doing this too often could be detrimental.
Any help/ advice would be greatly appreciated! I don't know if I should let my iPhone run really low before charging it or if smaller more frequent chargers are the way to go.
    Thanks!

Thanks! I did read over that and have taken the steps mentioned and fiddled around with settings of my phone to optimise use. I was just wondering if anyone else had anything else to add about charging habits specifically and what works best... I think mainly I'm just being paranoid about my phone dying prematurely since it's the first time I've owned such an expensive gadget!
Also, can you overcharge it? Is it bad to leave it on the charger overnight? I've done some searching in other threads/ webpages and there seems to be some discrepancies but for the most part people seem to think that it will be fine?

  • Iphone; best practice for better battery life

Okay, I've searched other threads and can't really find anything definitive on all this. I've found my battery life to be disappointing; I can go one and a half days without wi-fi or bluetooth turned on before it turns off.
    1) Is it true that when I press and hold the 'home' key while in an application the application 'quits.' If so, is this more likely to save battery life? Does an application ever really 'quit?' It strikes me that it doesn't.
    2) If move from safari to home without quitting is that safari page still loading, and thus sucking up battery life ?
    3) If I hold the sleep and home keys at the same time I am able to turn off my iphone. What is the advantage of doing this at all? Has anyone experimented with turning the phone off at night? If so, has anyone noticed a better battery life? Is the iphone even meant to be turned off?
    4) Should I be turning off the iphone to charge it once in a while; the other threads I've read seem to indicate no, however, I thought I would open this up again.

I believe you directed this at me: I called them...I do not have an apple store within a reasonable distance. They sent the loaner phone in a box, waived my rental fee. I sync my phone took out the sim card and put it in the loaner phone, syncd the loaner phone and had all my stuff. put my phone in the box, fed ex picked it up the next day. I tracked it on the apple repair site, it said they were running diagnostics that same day and the next the web site said replacement phone sent and it got to me in a brand new nice little apple box like the original, only smaller. None of the accessories were sent in or replaced. Hope that answers your question.
    Good Luck!

  • Any fix to the battery life issue from upgrading to IOS 6.0.2, as my battery life has gone from 2 days to 4 hours since 'upgrading'??

I purchased my Iphone 5 on the day of release, since then I have had a 2 day battery life on average, since upgrading to IOS 6.0.2, the battery struggles to last for 4 hours, is there any solution or fix??  If not any idea when this will be fixed??  Is there anyway to revert back to IOS 6.0.1?
    HELP!!!

It is unlikely that this problem has anything to do with iOS 6.0.2. It is possible that the update process itself has caused some settings on your iPhone to become corrupted.
Here are some steps to deal with this:
    1. Close all apps (use the app switcher; double tap home, press and hold an icon, click the "-" signs)
    2. Go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings. (Does NOT delete apps or any data; just resets network/iOS settings)
    3. Wait for iPhone to restart.
    4. Charge iPhone up to 100% and monitor.

  • Fix for iPhone 5 Bluetooth audio loss / disconnect?

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 4s to an iPhone 5.  I have a Motorola HX550 Bluetooth Headset which worked flawlessly with the iPhone 4s.  However, since upgrading to the iPhone 5, I frequently lose audio when in the middle of a call.  I am not certain whether it is a full disconnect or just an audio loss.  The person on the other end reports still being able to hear me, however, I suppose they could hear me speaking over another source even if bluetooth disconnected. The loss of audio is always preceded by a quick shrill noise, so I can easily tell when it happens.  All I have to do to fix the problem is to select Audio Source on the call screen, temporarily switch audio back to the iPhone, and then switch back to the headset, and then it starts working again.
Is is important to note that I am not the only one experiencing this issue:
This is a link to someone using the Motorola H19txt headset experiencing the same issue
    https://forums.motorola.com/posts/94ac15ad7c
If you go to the Plantronics website and look at the "Ratings and Reviews" on the Voyager Legend you will see the same issue reported:
http://www.plantronics.com/us/product/voyager-legend (next paragraph is taken from the review since there is no direct link to the review.
Really nice Headset unless you own an Iphone 5. I own several Plantronics headsets and have always loved the quality/ performance. This headset seems not to be compatible with the new Iphone 5. In the middle of a conversation it will lose all incoming audio. This leaves you trying to switch audio sources really fast in order not to lose your phone call. Ive tried 3 legend headsets and they all do the same thing. Hopefully this gets fixed soon because the headset is really nice
Since this issue appears to affect multiple headsets from multiple vendors, I think it is fair to conclude that it is an issue with the iPhone5 bluetooth itself.
I am posting this as a new discussion as I don't see any other posts specific to this iPhone 5 Bluetooth issue.  I would have reported this as a problem to Apple, but don't seem to be able to find a way to do this on the web.  Hopefully they are already aware, but if not, maybe they will see i here.
If anyone else has experienced this issue, or has recommendations on how to prevent this from happening, I would appreciate your feedback / additions to this post.

I upgraded to an iPhone 5 last year, and since that time I have had the audio drop out problem at intermittent but bothersome rates. Interestingly, the audio drop occurs only with some Bluetooth headsets, and never with others. The headsets that have the problem are all over the head devices with strong noise suppression and very long battery life. The problem started with the Parrott XT250+, 20 hours talk time and fantastic noise suppression.
I then purchased the RK400 RoadKing, it has 30 hours talk time, and is a little lighter and less geeky looking.
Also superb, but it cuts out more often than the BlueParrot.
However, I have a Bose in ear Bluetooth which never loses audio.
These heavy duty Bluetooth headsets are popular with truckers. They indicate greater distance to/from the device, about double. 60 feet vs. 30 feet, as I recall.
There must be a Bluetooth standard they adhere to that causes the audio loss problem in the iPhone. Just clicking to iPhone and back to the bluetooth will clear it. I also sometimes have a funny noise that indicates the audio is out, but usually it's noticing the other person not speaking. It has caused some serious problems on important business calls. I bought these headsets, and the iPhone5, to handle these calls.
Apple's Genius bar folks do not appear to have heard of this problem. I was asked to demonstrate it, which i did, eventually I was given a brand new iPhone5 to address the problem. The results of that were interesting, the rate of drop about doubled on the new phone over the old.
I was told when the phone was replaced, and again when I went back, that I would probably have to erase everything on the iPhone, set it up as a new phone on iTunes on my computer, and reload whatever apps I wanted (Apple knows which you paid for). I went through this procedure. I didn't suspect it would work, but I tried it. It didn't work. And again, the frequency of the drop out varied. This leads me to believe it may be some odd memory or cache overload since different phone utilization of space seems to be an affecting variable.
That is, I had all but 8 gigs utilized on my 32 gig iPhone 5 when the problem began. When I had the phone replaced and backed up, I trimmed back some of the apps. When I wiped the phone's drive and reinstalled, I wouud up with more memory available, as I deleted 1000 photographs during the reinstall.
It's frustrating, but I have encountered such weird anomalies in the past. I am glad this forum exists to document the problem and hope Apple will notice, acquire a few of the problem headsets, and resolve the bug.

  • Using a power bank good or bad for iphone battery lifespan?

I currently use iphone 5, i see many aid product made now such as power bank,
but a question comes in my mind , is that good or bad for our battery lifespan?

Are you referring to cases with battery packs in them?
If so, most have a switch to turn the battery in the case on or off.
Having the iPhone or any phone in a battery case is neither good or bad.  It is merely a way to extend the "life" of the device between charges without the need to physically plug the device in as there is always the extra battery onboard.

  • Iphone Battery Life on IOS 7.1

    Hello Fatboy1351,
I certainly understand the importance of having the longest battery life possible on the iPhone.  I recommend reviewing the following resource for some information about extending your battery life:

  • Looking for a fix for iPhone 5c, have no ringtone since 8.1.1 update

IS there a fix for recovering ringtone since the 8.1.1 update?

Really sorry to hear about this, particularly when you're putting your life on the line. But Apple cannot track your iPhone in any way unless you had set up Find My iPhone prior to it being lifted.
It's possible that AT&T might be able to do something, but it's probably that they cannot track it, or will not without a request from an authorized law enforcement agency, but rather would only disable the device. You'll have to try and find a way to contact AT&T directly and ask if they can do anything to help you; the chances of any AT&T employee in a position to help you spotting this thread it pretty small.
Good luck, stay safe, and come home soon.
