Fix for XFI in Vista LO

I followed Master's post here?http://forums.creative.com/creativel...essage.id=7094?BUT I used the WINDOWS XP Drivers?ALSO went to device manager ? ( Window Key + Pause Break key) and right clicked on the driver and updated it with the drivers from the WINDOWS XP Driver package clicking yes that I know its not certified blah blah?Restarted and now it works Great ( CMSS, ect all work fine)?only wonky thing the Tone tab in the sound settings in vista makes things sound wonky if you dont hit it just right (just play your favorite tune and adjust until its right)?Hope this is helpfull for yall?At least until creative writes a FULLY OpenAL Driver (that auto wraps ALL sound from direct sound to OpenAL? Kinda like Alchemy for the drivers =X?

I use a Tungsten E2.  Both my laptop and desktop crashed, so I was forced into a Vista PC. Blah.  Vista allowed me to install Palm Desktop from the Palm site - refused to do so from disk. The software works fine, but Vista still fails to recognize my E2 as a device. Between this and reading about the hotsync and quick install  issues with Vista, I searched for an easy work around.
Let me tell ya, this is beautiful!!! I purchased a Bluetooth dongle (USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.0) by Anycom. They have Vista compatible install software and driver on their site. While Vista doesn't recognize the existence of my E2, it is now installed as a bluetooth device. It took less than 5 minutes to set it up for Bluetooth Hotsync. I do not have issues with anything - my contacts, calender, to do and task list all synd as expected. New software and ebooks install via the Bluetooth Hotsync without a hitch. The other plus is one less USB wire. I use a wireless keyboard and mouse, have a home wireless network and have experienced NO interference. Most importantly, every problem the windows and Palm sites stated I would encounter has proven to be a non issue, and no extra steps are required. You can find the dongle cheap if you use pricegrabber.

  • Adobe Flash Player 10 Fix for WinXP and Vista, IE7, IE8, Firefox, ect.(New Fast Fix)

(This is a possible solution for most users) I have found that inside the folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash (WinXP Home/Pro) (Computer > C: Drive > Windows > System32 > Macromed > Flash for Vista) there should be a file named FlashUtil10b.exe (IF NOT YOU SHOULD UPDATE AS SPECIFIED!) (or FlashUtil10a.exe or for older versions something similar depending on your version), which is the update utility for flash player. Click on this and if it updates, you will have to restart your computer. This should fix any missing files, and update you to the latest version.
On a side note to all those who read this, I downloaded and installed 5 different times, the same version, from different websites, all for the "new" flash version, and they didn't work (this also included trying to update Shockwave player itself). Apparently, going directly to the website and downloading a new version of Adobe Flash Player, and installing, doesn't uninstall the older version, (though it says it does nor does the uninstaller work directly from the website) nor fixes the problem. I assume they are aware of this problem, because they included this bug fix in revision 10b. This fix should work for those of you whom cannot view/see flash images as well. There also appears to be a bug/reference problem with the installation of IE8 giving the error "Missing Shockwave Decompression XTRA", when trying to play a Shockwave/Flash file, which seems also to affect Firefox and other browsers. It doesn't recognize that the folder or files that it needs in it, exist. I never had his problem before, until IE8 was installed. I checked which version I had in the system32 folder and found this updater built in to Adobe. Version 10a does NOT automatically update, but version 10b includes this fix. I currently had version 10a when I received this error, and began digging for a solution. Doing the update as described above fixed the problem, and updated it to version 10b.
The new flash version 10b has some new features, such as volume control, auto-updating, and several rendering options for those who may have a faster or slower computer/video card.
I found this works great for XP users but unsure of the Vista users. The process is the same  for Vista and the update should still work the same, as long as you run it as Administrator, I assume. I have this also posted on wwwdslreports.com at http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22115254-IE-IE8-and-Adobe-Flash-Question and here http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22361930-Adobe-Flash-Player-10-Fix-for-WinXP-IE 8-Firefox-ect. It appears to work for everyone so far. I have not heard of any problems from users with this problem running the RC (Release Canidate) for Windows 7 yet.
I hope this works to your benefit.
Please leave a reply to help Adobe and other users know if this fix worked for you or not. If not, please explain what you did, and the effects your seeing, including operating system, site of the flash file trying to view, browser type (ex. IE6, IE7, IE8, Firefox, Opera, ect.), and I will try to help you as best I can.
(I would strongly recommend those not using IE8, or Firefox 3.5, get the updated versions)
If your looking for uninstallers go to this site: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
If your looking for a true full install, you can download this developer version for Windows and Mac: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/updaters/10/flash_player_update2_flash10.zi p (44MB) (If you download this, I would recommend you still follow my instructions for the Flash Utility before restarting your computer.)

I would recommend all users having problems try the above solution first.
I have posted this on a couple of websites, and so far it has fixed everyones problems.
Firefox 3.5 Beta 4 has Adobe Flash Player coding built into the browser so that it not only loads faster but works better.
You still need to have the Adobe ActiveX plug-in and Adobe Flash Player for both browsers.
I would also recommend you download Shockwave Player 11.
IE8 has tried this as well, but it still has a couple bugs in it.
If you have IE8 or FireFox 3.5 Beta 4, and you are still having problems, then I recommend that you go to www.windowsupdate.com and get all of the latest updates (including SP3), then try this fix again.
Your auto-updater built into windows (If you even have it on) doesn't always pull down every update available for your computer. It only pulls down the manditory ones.
Sometimes you HAVE to go to the website and manually get them yourself. I recommend when you go to the website, you click on custom install and pick every last one of them to install, which includes, hardware and software fixes for your computer.
What a lot of people don't know is that when you have installed and tried all of the recommended fixes that Adobe gives you, and it still doesn't work, is that you are having registry conflicts within your Operating System (OS ex. WinXP, Vista, Linux, ect.), and that it is not the Adobe software at all.
Those are usually repaired by making sure your computer stays up to date.
The fact is the computer world is changing so rapidly that everyone can't keep up. You have to check for updates weekly.
If you fall behind on those updates, then you start having problems with your computer and/or software.
One problem then can turn into many and people get frustrated when something all the sudden just quits working.
Take a day or two at least once a month, and make sure you update and maintain your computer.
This includes disk defragmenting, disk cleanup, and making sure you have all the lastest updates.
You can get to Disk Defrag, and Disk Cleanup by going to Start, All Programs, Accessories, then to System Tools.
I would do Disk Cleanup first, then Defrag.
I hope you take this advise into consideration, and that it is very helpful for you.
If you find this useful, please come back and reply to this forum, and let everyone know so that others will be encouraged to do this.
Thanks and goodluck, from another user like you.

  • A possible fix for the dreaded vista/xtremeMusic/nforce 4 probl

Would a solution to the Vista x64 / xtreme music / nforce 4 chipset be to just get an "xtreme gamer" card instead? Every time I read about the popping issue and Vista, it's always someone with an xtreme music card.
OR: is Creative going to release better drivers for Vista that give us the same compatibility and features of xp?
    What does everyone think?
NOTE: I did not have this problem with xp x64.

I don't think so - every time I run a "x-fi vista popping crackling problems" search in google and get forum hits, WITHOUT FAIL the person with the problem has an xtreme music card. I'm starting to think it's a defect/incompatibility between that card and AMD (mostly nforce 4 chipset) motherboards.
I think I'll try an xtreme gamer from Worst Buy to see if it has any compatibility problems, and then return it after I'm able to test it. If there's no problems, I'll place an order with newegg

I have a Palm tungsten E2 and I am getting the following message VFSDBCACHE.C,LINE4051, unattached record error. This happened two days ago. As of today I cannot get even get my Palm pad to open. It acts as though the battery is completely dead. In using the UBS cable will not allowed to open either. I'm really at a loss with this one. Does anyone have any great ideas. Have you tried pressing the tiny "Reset" button on the back of the device?
This will do a simple reboot.

  • Adobe Flash Player 10 Fix for Vista & XP

A possible fix for users wanting to get Flash Player 10 fixed
and running on Windows XP and Vista.
    See here for details:

  • ITunes/Quicktime fix for Vista?

Many commerical podcasts, as well as videos I know work in XP and MacOS don't seem to want to allow me to add them to my iTunes lib nor sync to my iPod. I suspect it's Quicktime's fault since when I try and play them in Vista quicktime says it cannot read the files atom, but the same videos run fine in XP and MacOS.
I've reinstalled both many times in vista in case it was some sort of bad install and found other people having the same problem on these forums.
Any word on an iTunes/Quicktime fix for Vista to allow us to view/sync these files again?

This works an absolute treat. I couldn't get past the VB Script error but once I'd followed you're instructions it took me 15 minutes to get it all installed and running. Everything works fine.
    Cheers

  • A "FIX" for Users of PC Suite 6.83 and Removing th...

To conduct the fix immediately, just skip down to about the 3rd paragraph below called "The FIX" for me! This other stuff is some backgroung I wanted to give.
Bottomline...6.83 has a serious problem when you istall it, and I spoke with a Nokia technical rep 2 days ago and he confirmed it. Unfortunately, Nokia doesn't have a clue to what is the root cause problem. The Nokia rep recommended that I "NOT" use version 6.83. Since they are having so many issues with it, I don't understand why they don't just remove it from their website? No matter what you try you will not get it to work properly!
Now when you try to uninstall 6.83, you also get into trouble. You can unistall the PC Suite 6.83 core application , but the cable driver portion remains. Now when you try to remove the cable driver, under ADD / REMOVE Programs, you get the following error" The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable". Again, the Nokia rep was clueless as to why I was receiving the error message and had no additional help for me in removing the cable driver. It just seemed no matter what I tried I could not remove the cable driver nor could I reinstall PC Suite either version 6.83 or 6.82. Finally, last night I stumbled upon a note from another digruntled nokia 6.83 user that led me to search the following Microsoft info regarding a little program called "Windows Installer Cleanup Utility".
    My setup:
    Phone - Nokia 9300
    Cable - Nokia DKU-2
    PC Suite - 6.83
PC OS - Win XP SP2
    "THE FIX" for me:
    1. Go to (ADD / Remove Programs) and uninstall PC Suite 6.83. This only removes the core program and "not" the cable driver
    2. Now go to the following MS website and download and Run the "Windows Installer Cleanup Utility".
Once you download this small MS utility, go down to my item #3 below for further immediate instructions!

Warning The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is provided "as is" to help resolve installation problems for programs that use Microsoft Windows Installer. If you use this utility, you may have to reinstall other programs. Caution is advised.
    On This Page
    SUMMARY
Microsoft has updated the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. With the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, you can remove a program's Windows Installer configuration information. You may want to remove the Windows Installer configuration information for your program if you experience installation (Setup) problems. For example, you may have to remove a program's Windows Installer configuration information if you have installation problems when you try to add (or remove) a component of your program that was not included when you first installed your program.
The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility does not perform the following functions: • Remove Windows Installer
    • Remove files of any programs that are installed by Windows Installer, such as Microsoft Office 2003
The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility does perform the following functions: • Provides a dialog box in which you can select one or more programs that were installed by Windows Installer
To do this, select the programs that you want in the Installed Products list in the Windows Installer CleanUp dialog box. After you make this selection, the utility removes only the Windows Installer configuration information that is related to those programs.
    • Removes the files and registry settings that make up the Windows Installer configuration information for programs that you select
If you use this utility to remove the Windows Installer configuration information for your program and you plan to reinstall the program, you should reinstall the program in the same folder where you originally installed it. This prevents duplication of files on your hard disk or disks.

    MORE INFORMATION
This version of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility works correctly in all 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows. The 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows are as follows: • Microsoft Windows Vista
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2003
    • Microsoft Windows XP
    • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
    • Microsoft Windows 2000
    • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later
    • Microsoft Windows 98
    • Microsoft Windows 95
This version of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility works correctly in all 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows. The 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows are as follows:• Microsoft Windows Server 2003
    • Microsoft Windows XP
    • Microsoft Windows Vista
The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:
Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now. (http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe)
    3. Now go to START/PROGRAMS/Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. When you run this utility, a window will open up that lists all the of the programs that you have installed. It looks a little bit like the add/remove program window. Now Select the "Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver" and the "PC Connectivity Solution programs, then run the utility. It only takes about 15-30 seconds to run.
    4. Now go back to the Add /Remove Programs in Control Panel and try and remove "Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver" and the "PC Connectivity Solution programs now. They should now uninstall!
    5. Next I restarted my computer.
    6. DO NOT install 6.83!!!!
    7. Now go to Nokia website and download PC Suite version 6.82_rel_22:
    http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/Nokia_PC_Suite_682_rel_22_0_eng_us_web.ms...
    7. You should now be back in business with a working version of PC Suite.
It is obvious that there is a serious issue with the cable driver portion of 6.83 that corrupts MS Windows Installer program during the install process. Even though you initially can install 6.83, the cable driver is messed up. Also, you can't then uninstall the cable driver unless you run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
After a month of fighting this issue, the Windows Installer Cleanup utility was the key to clearing the conflict of the cable driver. Unfortunately, 6.83 has a serious issue with the cable driver.
Good luck everyone...Sorry for being long winded!

    Hi diving_catch
Just wanted to say a big thank you as a large number of forum members are having grief over this one!
Might I add that I was happily using 6.82 rel_22.0 until NSU decided that it was time to update........you guessed PCSuite no longer worked. On Xp I uninstalled PC Suite + Nokia Connectivity Driver, installed and ran Nokia PC Suite Cleaner - option clean-up computer, rebooted and at least for now 6.83 v14.1 seems to function with N95. As no updates are available yet I haven't installed Nokia Software Updater!
Many thanks also for the link to PC Suite 6.82 rel_22.0 as I shall probably need this soon.

  • Need fix for soundmax audio card for my HP touchsmart 300 series running windows 7 64 bit OS

need stereo mix in my soundax controls in order to DJ with my new pc...so far I can only find fix for Vista and XP 64 bit which after download has stereo mic option...can you help?
    annie

try external USB sound card option, m-audio or creative are a couple off the top of my head you could use. they usually come with a full driver and product suit that  can achieve a much better sound than the soundmax in touchsmart have to offer.

  • I accidentally deleted QuickTime from my computer. Then I did a system restore and retrieved it. Now Itunes can't find QuickTime and will not open. Is there a fix for this without my Ipod?

I accidently deleted QuickTime from my computer. Then I did a system restore and retrieved the program. Now Itunes can't find QuickTime and will not open.Is there a eazy fix for this without using my Ipod? Ihave 6K songs in Itunes that I can't get to.
    Thank You
    T-BILL

Hmmm. There's a couple of things that might be going on with that one.
Let's try an uninstall and reinstall of QuickTime first.
If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel. Select "QuickTime", click "Change" and then click "Remove".
If you're using & or Vista, head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select QuickTime, and then click "Uninstall".
You can get QuickTime back either via Apple Software Update (in your Start menu go "All Programs > Apple Software Update" ... QuickTime should appear in the "New Programs" section), or by downloading a QuickTimeInstaller.exe from the following location:

  • Need to find a fix for Windows XP 64bit

I just don't understand how apple has negeleted to make a download version of Itunes to work with Windows XP 64-bit OS. It seems to me that I'm not the only one here that feels the same and has had issues installing Itunes on there machine. I just purchased a new machine over the weekend to find out that Itunes doesn't work. No where in the specifications of the IPOD touch does it say it doesn't operate with Windows XP 64bit. It just says Windows XP. Is there going to be a fix for this? Let me know if any one has found a solution to this matter.

Apple has never supported the 64-bit version of Windows XP, and at this point probably never will since Microsoft themselves are dropping support for it. If you search the iTunes for Windows forums for "XP 64", you'll find threads discussing how people have managed to "crowbar" the version of iTunes for 64-bit Vista and WIndows 7 to XP 64, but the level of success has been less than 100%.
There are third-party utilities such as MediaMonkey, Anapod, Ephpod, or Xplay for handling transfer of content to your iPod . I haven't used any of these, so I can't make any recommendations. These applications cannot connect to the iTunes Store, so you will not be able to purchase content from the Store. The applications may also may not work with the most recent iPods, so confirm compatbility with your iPod model.
Upgrading to Vista or Windows 7 will probably be your best option for the long term, though.
    Hope this helps.
    Good luck.

  • Fix for folder selection bug?

Does anyone know if there is a fix for Dreamweaver CS4 for this problem?
When setting site preferences it sets a folder as one level above the folder you have chosen.
I saw this problem posted by someone else so I know it's not just my machine.
    More information:
    Running Vista 64bit
Also so the problem on Windows 7 64bit

    Same issue here too Win 7 32 bit/DW CS4.
No fix yet available. Just workarounds.

  • A Fix for Wireless Connection Problems

I’ve been struggling with connection problems for a week. Thankfully, I found a fix. Your mileage may vary, but this may be your answer:
Fix for Wireless Connection Problems on MacBook Pro

Yeah BR, please tell me what your cure is. I have the same setup as you, Vista with the same wireless card you have. Cannot stay connected to the internet. Have spent hours on the phone with tech support and they can't fix it. I hate this f....ing computer, will never buy another one. Please let me know what you did. Once I get it running right I'm selling it and will buy a cheap Dell, never have any problems with them. I have keyboard problems, capital letter problems, connection problems, and download can take 1 to 2 days. Pure BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
