Fix for Yosemite not connecting to internet or apps

I can't take credit for this I saw another poster from a few days ago but I was having trouble where I could connect to some websites but not all and any app that required internet was not working. I made all of my login accounts admins and that helped. I am now able to use my laptop the way it's supposed to be.
If you want to know how to do this go to system preferences>users & groups>click lock to make changes> allow user to administer this computer> apply then restart computer. I hope this helps everyone like it has helped me

I had the same issue but only fixed doing that:

  • Fix for Mac not connecting to local network

    Hi,
I'm a uni student and I've had trouble connecting my Macbook Pro to the local Uni network so I can access computers connected to the network from my computer in my dorm. It worked perfectly fine the first day and then it stopped working. I contacted Apple today to fix the problem and was told to the following procedure:
OS X Mavericks: Reset your computer’s PRAM
It solved the issue perfectly and I also found the reason for why my Mac was not connecting. Well since I've got a few more devices at home I've setup 'Internet Sharing' on the Mac so my ethernet connection is shared wireless through the computer's built in router. Turning this function on for some reason blocks you out from accessing your network. So yea, I thought this might help anyone else who've had the same problem, since I couldn't seem to find it anywhere on the internet!

Not on this forum.  Classic Mac OS 9 is not the same as Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks.

  • Fix for iPod not connecting

I was having trouble with my iPod, it would show up in windows, and say 'iPod Service Error ' in the iPod updater, and iTunes wouldn't aknowledge it at all. I tried many things including restore (in disk mode updater worked), changing the drive letter, and the 5 r's. The fix for this problem was simply turning off my anti virus software. Appearantly PC's like to see ipod software as foreign and even though your ipod might work fine for a few days, the anti virus software will eventually mess it up. So all you have to do is disable that and it should work.

hey, i am having the exact same problem but i dont know which anti virus software is doing it. i have a dell with xp what did you disable? thanks!

  • MBP upgraded to Yosemite and now will not connect to Internet using a Cisco router

I Upgraded my MBP mid 2010 to Yosemite and now it will not connect to Internet using a system that involves typing in my user name and password in an auto pop up window provided by Cisco security systems. Before, using Mavericks, it worked perfectly: boot up MBP and the Cisco pop up auto loaded. Typed it my password and hey presto, connected to Internet. Now, zilch. There is nothing wrong with the Cisco cos my iPad connects ok, as do both my iPhone's.
the problem is with Yosemite therefore. Please help. I tried all the usual diags, etc to no avail.

Sounds like there could be some kind of compatibility issue between ICS and this Bluetooth device of yours. Is there any compatibility info from the manufacturer about which Android versions that's being supported?

  • Fix for Airport Wireless Connection Problem stating Self-Assigned IP and not wanting to connect in Lion OSX.

Fix for Airport Wireless Connection Problem stating Self-Assigned IP and not wanting to connect in Lion OSX.
Bought my girlfriend the newest Macbook Pro 13" and began experiencing problems with my wifi the moment we got home. Her Macbook would not connect to our home Wi-Fi while my old Macbook Late 2008 running Snow Leopard connected without a problem. Airport would say that it had a Self-Assigned IP address (168.x.x.x). Did not realize it was a Lion problem until after using her Macbook Pro and becoming jealous of the new OSX, I upgraded. Soon after I was unable to go online. Luckily I had my iPad 2 and I began to scoure the net for help. Ran into allot of suggestions but it was not until I tried the following all together was I able to share the good new, from my Macbook. Hope this works:
First go to Preferences > Network and click on the cog next to the + and - on the sidebar and click Set Service Order
         - Move Wi-Fi to the top and click ok.
         - Set location to Automatic
         - Click Apply
         - Click Advanced
         - Click the "-" on the selected Wi-Fi router you wish to connect to
         - Click Apply
         - Click Lock to Prevent Further Changes
Go to your Mac's harddrive, (Macintosh)
         - Go to Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration >
         - Delete "com.apple.airport.preferences.plist" file
    Turn off your computer
         - push and hold Option+Command+R+P
         - turn on computer
         - when the grey screen turns on you will hear the OS X "ON" sound (for lack of a proper term) and it will momentarily restart.
         - you will once again hear the "ON" sound, let go of all keys.
         - this resets your PRAM
Go to Preferences > Network > Advanced > + sign
         - click Choose a Network
         - Select your network and enter password
Viola!!! I tried this on my Macbook Late 2008 and my girlfriends new Macbook Pro 2010

No you are clearly mistaken. The Self-Assigned IP address problem exists on many Macbook Pro models, including the current model, which I mentioned as being the original computer with the problem. While my 2008 Macbook is older it was working perfectly on Snow Leopard and didn't suffer issues until switching to Lion. So clearly the problem exists on the operating system and not so much the hardware.
I called Apple Support  and they had no fix for the problem and told me that this would hopefully be addressed in a subsequent update. It wasn't until I came accross the answer after trying many different methods that I got both of the Macbooks to connect to my router. Otherwise I wouldn't or could not have been surfing the internet for the last 4 months.
    Cheers.

  • TS1398 My ipad says it is connected to WiFi, which is workingly perfectly for several other devices, will not connect to internet.  It keeps giving the message 'Cannot Connect' or error has occurred or just blink off site or icon?

My ipad says it is connected to WiFi, which is workingly perfectly for several other devices, will not connect to internet.  It keeps giving the message 'Cannot Connect' or error has occurred or just blink off site or icon?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

You might try doing a reset of your AirPort unit.  Use a pen or paper clip to press in on the recessed reset button while you plug it in, then continue to keep the button pressed until the status light flashes several times,

  • ITunes 12.0.1.26 update will not connect to internet, despite no connection problem on my PC?

After upgrading to 12.0.1.26, podcasts won't update and cannot access iTunes Store. Get a message that I cannot access as not connected to internet. There is no problem with my connection. I've rebooted, delete & reloaded etc., still not working. Nothing in the Help section is helping.

Looks like I have fixed the problem by uninstalling then reinstalling the Norton Antivirus software.  Thanks again iTunes for another pointless update that wasted hours of my time in trying to get it to work properly.

  • "Not connected to Internet" error message

    Hi Guys,
Safari keeps throwing me "you are not connected to the internet" error messages. I'm running 10.5.1 and I chose the "upgrade" option.
The errors are displayed randomly on sites and if I get the error upon visiting a site, I usually have to wait about a half hour before i reload the site and it works normally. This is happening to approximately 20% of the sites I visit. I can view the same exact site in Firefox, but I also get the same error in Mail, Aperture (flickr export) and twitterific.
If a site (like Flickr) pulls resources from multiple urls, even though the initial site loads, the resources may not. For instance, loading Flickr, the page may load, but since the images are on a separate server (or multiple separate servers), the images may not load or may load randomly.
I tested failing urls in Network Utility > Traceroute and urls that throw the error message get an "unknown host" message. I assume this bug has to do with Mac OS X as opposed to my ISP. and that web kit is probably the culprit, as I'm having this problem on apps that use web kit to access the internet (firefox does not).
This error is also happening on my powerbook G4 that was upgraded to 10.5 as well.
anyone else having this error? i don't seem to see anything in the forums.

I am having this IDENTICAL problem. My ISP is Cox Communications and at first I thought the problem was DNS related. It certainly appears to be, but I went and dusted off my old Windows laptop and internet access works very well, fast and snappy. Since upgrading to Leopard on my Mac Pro and MacBook Pro (oh yes, I was stupid to upgrade both at the same time) I have been so frustrated with this problem. Safari will tell me I'm "Not connected to Internet" while Firefox will happily load the same page. Mail will tell me it can't connect to the smtp server while tcpdump shows it not even trying. A half hour later it starts to work temporarily. I have tried using different DNS servers but it doesn't make a difference. The problem is definitely Apple Safari/Mail. Boo!
Please someone at Apple fix this problem quickly. This is extremely frustrating.
