Fix low volume output on Sky HD Boxes

Here a suggestion for you. Why dont you fix the low volume out on the Sky HD boxes? Loads of people have complained about it. Do something about it.

I have finally found a very cost effective solution to this problem.  Cancelled Sky subscription and got Freesat with a Humax box.  This does not have the fault that the Sky HD boxes have.  In fact it has an "on the remote" volume control, and when this is turned to max the volume is exactly as it should be.  The volume control works both the HDMI and the analogue outputs.  Additionally there is also a mute button on the remote, again muting both outputs.  Perfect.  Cost effective because since I have been a Sky subscriber for over a decade, now cancelled, assuming I would have stayed with them for another decade I have saved myself £4121 including the initial cost of the Freesat box.  Quite a shocking amount of money that I will be saving, having calculated it.  Shame on Sky for not correcting this software issue when it was first reported by many users, especially as the volume function used to be there and they removed it.  For those thinking of doing the same as me, the Freesat / Freetime system is excellent, the EPG is as good as Sky and the "roll back" TV aspect of the EPG far superior to that of Sky.  Picture quality is at least as good (probably better as box is Full HD)  The BBC iplayer implementation is also not the "cut down" version thst Sky have also implemented (another software short cut that bugged me), i.e. it is the same as you'd see on your PC / smart TVs with FULL programme content.  What you don't get is Sky Atlantic but since I never watched this in over a decade made no difference to me.

  • MacBook Pro 2009 - Window 7 - Low Volume Output

I am experiencing low volume output on the internal speakers and slightly better volume on headphone output under BootCamp with Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. And of course the red light emitting diode is one constantly in the audio output jack.
I have seen fixes for the Windows XP folks over time and on my older MacBook (2006) with Vista x64, I found a fix. I have seen some thoughts on installing RealTek HD Audio drivers and that DID NOT work for Windows 7 x64 on my MacBook Pro 2009. I also tried reinstalling the CirrusAudio x64 from the BootCamp 3 drivers on my Snow Leopard DVD.
So I am left wondering if a driver update is forthcoming or if there is a fix that has been discovered and not reported online yet?

I'm going to leave this message for reference to other users...
As of October 22 2009 there is no known fix for the broken Cirrus Logic driver that comes with Bootcamp 3.0 under any 64bit Windows OS (including Windows 7 and Vista).
Apple seriously ***** for not doing anything about this for MONTHS and has lost a customer forever. I was going to get a 17in to complement my 13in MacBook Pro but this kind of driver issues is just plain unacceptable, and goes to show how you can't rely on a company like Apple for mission critical systems, period.
If they want to make ANY inroad in the corporate world the better get their stuff together and start delivering, the famous "excellent customer experience" for me is nowhere to be found. Lacking that, mac computers are only pretty although non-functional machines.
Sorry for the rant... I hope somebody from apple listens, but I doubt it.

  • New G5 Low Volume Output

I have two new dual processor G5 macs at work and on both Macs there is hardly any volume output from the internal speaker. There is sound but when playing anything steamed from the internet sometimes you can barely hear it. But for the most part the volume is lower than what you might expect even from a small speaker.
Is there a way to increase the sound output on these Macs? I know of someone else that has the same problem too. So I know that is is not me.

If you have two brand new G5's it would seem highly unlikely it would be a hardware issue. But hey, stranger things have been known to happen.
I assume you have already check the settings in the Sound pane via System Preferences, no?
What happens if you plug in headphones. Is the sound output the same?
Try removing either com.apple.systempreferences.plist and or com.apple.soundpref.plist to the desktop and restart the computer so it can create new preference files. See if this makes a difference.
I am not sure if com.apple.soundpref.plist file actually exists. I can't seem to locate one on my G5. I have done a google search and random Mac users indicated that they have one.

  • Low volume output through earphone from ipad air, itouch 4 and itouch 5 comparing to previous models

Has any body noticed that the latest iPad and i touch (i e from 4th generation onward) purchased from India (I don't know about other countries) has less volume output in earphones/headphones as compared to the old generations...
This is because i had to replace 2 i touch (i e 4th gen and 5th gen) for the same problem.
Now also when i purchased an iPad air WiFi cellular am facing the same problem.
I am buying an apple product for music and videos preferably but at last get disappointed due to your same defective products.
Has apple lowered their status of music and video for which they were famous.
Anyone help me out there for this problem.
    Tell me solution excluding
    1.To turnoff volume limit
    2. reset all settings
    3.make some changes in equalizer
    4.restore factory settings and
    5. increase volume level from iTunes..
All the above mentioned solutions i have tried nothing has solve my problem..
If apple does manufacture such product with less volume than the previous version then please tell us. We will buy product of another brand. Apple its a major issue. The only thing that this issue has not been discussed so much because most of the people do not hear at the max level.

Among the alternatives not mentioned... Using a TiVo DVR, rather than the X1; a Roamio Plus or Pro would solve both the concern over the quality of the DVR, as well as providing the MoCA bridge capability the poster so desperately wanted the X1 DVR to provide. (Although the TiVo's support only MoCA 1.1.) Just get a third-party MoCA adapter for the distant location. Why the hang-up on having a device provided by Comcast? This seems especially ironic given the opinions expressed regarding payments over time to Comcast. If a MoCA 2.0 bridge was the requirement, they don't exist outside providers. So couldn't the poster have simply requested a replacement XB3 from the local office and configured it down to only providing MoCA bridging -- and perhaps as a wireless access point? Comcast would bill him the monthly rate for the extra device, but such is the state of MoCA 2.0. Much of the OP sounds like frustration over devices providing capabilities the poster *thinks* they should have.

  • Very Low Volume Output - Audigy 2

    Hi,
All of a sudden my Audigy 2 ZS card has very low volume. Tried different speakers, tried uninstall/reinstall, tried clean boot of XP, no luck. Also, there is faint crackling when I turn volume up but I believe it's only because speakers are fully cranked and there is hardly any sound coming out.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I didn't have any place to test the card but I did replace it with another one. Unfortunately, the other card gives the same result - very low volume. I suppose this means there is a problem with the motherboard. Do you agree? Is there any other test I could do that might pinpoint the problem area?
Yes, I received a "reply" from Creative. It was a form email that said they received my message and would respond (usually) within 24 hours. That is the only message I received from them.

  • Logic 9 lower volume output, and thinner sound than 7?

Hello, The sessions that I open up in 9, that I did in 7, sound thinner, and the mp3 volume is way lower on a bounce?
    Anyone else notice this?

Maybe you have the pan law set differently or have logic set to normalize the bounce. The versions sound the same if set the same.

  • Low Volume Output on 17" MBP

I just got my 17" MacBookPro last week to replace my 17" Powerbook G4.
I have noticed that the sound coming out of the built-in speakers is significantly lower than on my Powerbook. For instance, when adjusting the volume, I lose the "spit" sound after only 5 bars from full volume (5 bars black, all other white).
When I have headphones plugged it, it is not like this. I can hear the "spit" sound all the way down to only 2 white bars.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

It's funny... I'm still trying to figure that out. There is one program that says "Quick Message" when you get one. At the same volume level as previous laptop, it is quieter. But with volume full up I believe things are a loud as they were before.
I just played a stored mp3 that I am have played before. I think the mid-volume is softer than it was. From there down I don't hear the song at all. But from mid to above I believe I can get the song as loud as before.
I did notice something but it wasn't conclusive. As more people chime in maybe there will be a consensus.

  • Best DVD-burning method for low-volume output

I have used iMovie to create a numer of projects that vary in length from 30 minutes to one hour 40 minutes.
I would like to keep them as iMovie files on an external hard drive, then use the simplest method to burn them to a DVD when a customer orders one.
    * Number of orders is too low to use a servive that replicates/duplicates.
    * My needs are very basic. Don't require a fancy DVD with menus, etc.
    * Would prefer using an external burner to minimize wear on internal one.
Question: Is there a way to save an iMovie project to a certain file format on an external hard drive, then just drag it to a blank DVD and hit "burn"--and be certain that the result will play in a DVD player?
    Thanks.

I agree with Matthew's suggestion to use a DVD disc image. This is the file that gets burned to DVD, nice and compressed to fit the disc. Once you create it, you can use Disk Utility (or Toast, if you have it) to burn it anytime you like, and the burn just takes a few minutes.
iMovie cannot create this disc image for you. The good news is that iDVD can create it. You need to create a new project in iDVD, import your iMovie project into it, and use File > Save As Disc Image.
You do not have to have the theme and menus in your iDVD project, if they really bother you. F Shippey has made a nice tutorial explaining how to create an autoplay DVD with a simple "replay disc" page for the viewer. Read this thread and follow F Shippey's link for instructions: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4387688
Another good thing about disc images is that if you are sure you won't want to edit the movie in any way in the future, you can keep that small (4.7GB or less) disc image and delete the huge iMovie project. The iDVD is project reference-based, so if you delete the iMovie project you may as well delete the iDVD project as well. Disc images are a space-efficient way to store your old movies. You can always burn another copy. (Just be really sure you won't want to do any further editing. The DVD is so highly compressed that to open it back for editing takes extra software and results in a visible loss of resolution.)

  • Sound is very low volume

I've done a search but can't seem to find any info re the sound volume on my bw G3. The sound out of both the front, built in speaker, and through the headphones, is very low volume output, almost but not quite muted. I've searched and adjusted the controls but to no avail. Could this be a hardware problem or software? There 'is' some movement when I adjust the volume slider but it takes the level from what would normally be 2 of 10 down to nothing. That is, there is no way for me to get the sound to levels that within normal limits. It's like the output is being blocked somehow but is still leaking through enough for me to make out the particular sound (song in this case) that I'm listening to.
Any help would be appreciated. It might not be worth puttiing any money into and I'd like to at least try.
    Michael

    Michael,
Sounds like you are ahead of the game on testing with headphones. External speakers would not make much of a difference without an amplifier.
"(is there another place to check sound output?)" If you had an AV output you could test sound out of that card. Finding a card might be cheaper than any repair bill and give you a definative answer on if their is a system software level problem.

If you go to the advanced search link at the top of the page and make a query for "no sound" you should get a response similar to this link:

  • I want to normalize volume output... how?

    Hey guys,
I have a media center and I want to normalize the audio output.
Because the computer has so many sources for media, the volumes of those sources are so varied... I want to push the audio output to something like logic and use an au like leveler which will increase the volume of low volume output and compress high volume output...
Any ideas on how I can do this?
    Thanks!!!

  • Low Volume through Cable Box

The volume level between my cable box and my output (a soundbar speaker connected to the TV) is very low. Having the volume maxed out makes the sound maybe just below a good listening level provided there's no ambient noise in the place (dish washer running, A/C on, etc.) where as with every other device connected ot the soundbar a maxed-out volume would be ea-splitting. Can find no settings on either TV, soundbar or cable box to correct this issue.  Seems like the sound output from the cable box itself is severely gimped.

We haven't heard this complaint for awhile but we used to get it fairly often. The X1 DVR does have an audio output level that is lower than most video source components I have come across. There is nothing wrong with the box. It is working the way it is supposed to. It just forces us to turn up the volume an notch higher in our TVs or audio system. I could see where the lower audio output could be a mismatch with some Soundbars. Unfortunately I don't think there is a fix for this other than trying different Soundbars. I have no issues with my SONOS Playbar. It gets plenty loud enough. My SONOS Playbar has a "voice enhancement" feature that noticeably raises the volume level of voices in comparison the the background level. Maybe your Soundbar has a similar feature. Trekker4747 wrote:

  • Low volume, no enhancements tab to fix issue

    Hello
I have a Pavilion g6 HP laptop, running on windows 8.
I am experiencing a problem with very low volume. How can I fix this? I have seen in previous questions that this response has worked for people:
Right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select 'Playback Devices'.  Left click the default device once to highlight it ( it's usually 'speakers & headphones' ) then click the Properties button.  Click the Enhancements tab and put a tick in the box next to 'Loudness Equalization'.  Click Apply to save the change and then click OK in all remaining windows and see if this has helped at all.
However, there is no enhancements tab on my system! Help!
    Thanks

Same problem here.. This problem is from years with the hp laptop speakers and they do nothing... That is very irresponsible.. Well, HP you're gonna release some official fix for that or what? Seriously I'm going to switch to dell because of your useless support.By the way why are you doing a support forum when you DO NOT KNOW the answer of the problems? Huh...

  • Volume output is extremly low on Z3

My xperia z3's volume output is extremly low comparted to my old iphone 4 and also without any bass even when trying the same set of headphones on both of them , and i tried clear audo+ and DSEE HX but they dont help at all with the volume they make it worse and i tired increasing everything in the equalizer inluding the bass and still nothing is there anyway i could fix this or is there something wrong with my phone?

Seems this is a common problem for people, I'm experiencing the same problem with my z3 compact.
The way to fix this is to root your phone and then it's just a matter of editing a text file inside your phone to raise the overall volume level.
I've posted up a message here too about it, just want for someone to pass it onto Sony and hope that it can be fixed, it's not a major thing for them, it would be quite easy for them to fix.

  • My low volume button doesn't work on my Iphone 4, how can I fix it?

Okay so I dropped my iphone in the parking lot garages of my apartment complex and the ground was cement, when i picked it up the screen wasn't cracked or anything so i thought it was okay but once i started listening to music and I wanted to lower the volume and so I pushed the low volume button but nothing happen....The high volume button works fine but now the low volume button so if you want to lower the volume on my phone now you have to do it manually....Also after the drop i turned off silent mode on the side and the clicking sound wasn't there and I checked in the settings, it said it was on and the volume was on but I heard no clicking sound!!! How can I solve these two problems? Can I go to an Apple Store and let them fix my iphone if I don't have AppleCare?

I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.
