Fix the Server Admin UI for DNS

Apple.
DNS is a fairly important service as you know. I don't have time to edit zone entries manually and then also adjust reverse entries.
The Server Admin UI for DNS has been broken for a long while now.
Please.
Fix it.

I agree that the DNS GUI in Server Admin is bad and should never have been released as it is. It should at least have the option to be disabled. That way, the limited and somewhat useless config files the GUI generates wouldn't overwrite painstakenly edited config files. Why does my mail server have to sit on the same domain? Why does my primary DNS have to exist within the created domain? Anyway enough complaining. On to solutions...
I would recommend you download "Webmin". It has a great interface for managing DNS and can do everything you should need. Keep in mind, for all my complaints about Server Admin Tool, it does keep you from adding multiple A records for the same IP which really shouldn't be done. "Webmin" will allow you to do just about anything you want to with DNS. It can be found at:

I am aware this is (or was) an issue for the Lync 2013 client as well, as per

This does seem to be fixed at this stage though, because after adding lyncdiscoverinternal.SIPdomain.com the Lync 2013 client does not prompt about the certificate.
However, the Windows Store app does prompt "Lync can't verify that the server is trusted for your sign-in address. Connect anyway?" This presumably boils down to the same issue where our Lync 2013 Frontend is lyncfrontend.internal.domain.com which
does not match the SIPdomain.com.
Is there a fix for this other than forcing lyncdiscoverinternal to the reverse proxy? The TrustModelData registry key only applies to the Lync 2013 full client so does not affect the Windows Store app.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

How do i find out if the server admin daemon is running

Hi All,
I've got an OS X server that for some reason ( probably due to me pratting around) has decided not to have a working server admin prog. I can fire up the client program and point it at any of the IP addresses that the server is looking at and then you get an error message basically saying that the server admin daemon is not contactable.
So ...
1). How can i find out if the back end daemon is running
2). what port(s) does it listen on
3). How can I turn on some logging to see what's happening when I run serve admin
4). Any other tips as to how to find out why its not working

DHCP does not load as a service from the Server Admin

Dear friends,
I have faced the following problem.
The task is to do internet sharing among other services on mac mini server.
Started with the clean install of OS X Lion, upgraded it to Server and then installed all updates.
USB Ethernet (en2) is looking into ISP with static IP, Ethernet (en0) is LAN.
Since I need specific address scope for the LAN I have actived DHCP from the Server admin and configured it to provide
192.168.8.11 to 192.168.8.200 as an adress scope, mask 255.255.0.0 on the interface en0.
Everything was working just fine for a couple of minutes and the LAN clients got their IP addresses from the DHCP scope. In a very short time Server Admin popped up and error message:
Try to refresh the view (aserver.local./Server). (kReceivedUnknownError)
Niether grey nor green bubble apears near the DHCP on the service list.
I keep recieving this error for all other services until I manage to disable dhcp on the services tab of server settings. After all I cant make it run again. I tried to restart dhcp from the terminal but it does not help. "sudo serveradmin fullstatus dhcp shows nothing".
Do you have any ideas how to make it work?

So you're not using NAT between the two? Even though you're using 255.255.0.0 so both network can talk (basically you have a class B network setup using Class C ip addresses), your network masks for each should be something like 255.255.255.xxx depending on how many subnets you need. NAT or Network Address Translation should be running and that will provide the interconnectivity between the two.
Your DHCP server should be set up only with 255.255.255.0 for the DHCP service since you are only serving IP addresses to the one subnet 192.168.8.x. Your starting address in DHCP setup is 192.168.8.11 ending address 192.168.8.200 and the netmask should be 255.255.255.0.

Is there a way to find out the server is pending for a reboot by SCCM? any reg value or something to find it?

There are some servers which are tagged as No restart servers(which cannot be rebooted regularly) due to some critical apps are running on them.
Is there any reg value or some thing where we can find the server is pending for a reboot from SCCM? currently the SCCM services are stopped on them to prevent any unwanted reboot.
But if can find this info it will be very helpful

Firefox has determined that the server my request for a webmail address refers in a way that never ends. How can I fix that?

How do I fix the server Error I get saying the server does not recognize the RETR command? I can send but not receive.

I am using the Godaddy email service with a POP account. some of my clients are working but many are showing the RETR error from the server. I have deleted the popstate.dat file and this did not solve the issue.

Does Apple plan to stop development of OSX server as there is no server admin tools for OSX 10.8 so far?

I have been waiting for the OSX 10.8 server admin tools to config my ML server for few months. I think Apple is not interest to develop server products. Please tell me is this the fact so that I can change to other server solution. At the mean time, who can tell me where to find a commnd line manual or document so that I can config the server for using different port for pop and smtp and other configuration.

What tools are you looking for? Server.app is the only configuration utility for Mountain Lion. All of the functionality that was formerly in Server Admin.app has been moved into Server.app.

Firefox keeps prompting an update, but can't complete it. It gets stuck on "Connecting to the Server" and runs for hours until I stop it. Help!

I have a Mac OS X ver. 10.5.8 and I've used Firefox on it since I got it 3 years (?) ago. The most recent update for both Firefox and Thunderbird keeps prompting me, but when I say "yes" to update, a bar appears with lines moving through it and it says, "Connecting to the update Server" but it never gets any farther. I've left it for hours at a time and it won't actually update either program.

If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

I need the server run time for weblogic server. Please help

I am trying to create a web project in Eclipse WTP europa. I do not have the bea weblogic server installed on my desktop. My organization has issues running it locally. I need to first create a project and then create a war and then deploy it on server.

What's up with the Server Admin Tools update 10.3.5?

I keep getting the Apple update window with Server Admin Tools Update 10.3.5 checked off in its checkbox.
When I run the installation, it goes throught the status bar, etc, and then comes back up as needing installation.
The tools I run show 10.3 (v106) in the about window.

Cliff, I am not sure why you are getting this update, but if you are not using Apples' Server and you are not that Servers System Administrator, Uncheck it and ignore it, you do not need it.
If by chance somewhere along the line you downloaded software that was not through the Software Update feature on your computer, you might have mistakenly downloaded some software you did not need.

The Server Intelligence Agent for this server is unavailable

Folks,
Issue surfaces after clustering,above mentioned error appears in properties of each server irrespective of servers running(pretend) and not running.
Here,we tried to cluster 4 nodes,first 2 nodes are good no issues,but 3 and 4 nodes have issue.
I also noticed below message under properties
" The server is not managed by Server Intelligence Agent. Current command line arguments could not be retrieved. Server restart would be required if the command line arguments are modified. Printer cannot connect to the server when "checking for update". Can't setup eprint.

I have an Officejet 4620 All-in-one working wireless. It prints, scans and sends and receives faxes well. After setting up a fixed IP address, I started to get this problem. I test the wireless connection pressing the wireless button and report says everthing's fine. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit SP1.
This is how I configured IPv4:
IP Address 10.0.0.250
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 10.0.0.67
Preferred DNS Address 10.0.0.67

Change your preferred DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and your alternate to 8.8.4.4.
