Fix to Constant Crashing in CS4

After reading the scores, if not hundred's of posts about this problem and doing quite a bit of research, I've found the fix.
You need to switch to another product. I'm not being facetious.  Adobe has made it abundantly clear that they have no interest in fixing tough problems like this. I've been in the IT field for 25 years, 10 years with one of the big software/hardware manufacturers and 10 years running my own software development shop. Like Adobe, I don't give away support. But if reports come in that one of my products is crashing, I fix it. It's as simple as that. Since I'm not paid hourly and I have to produce results or I starve, suggestions like; "Reinstall Windows" or "Reformat you hard disk" are not solutions.
Anybody who posts suggestions like "Reinstall Windows" or "Reformat you hard disk" has never had to support themselves by by producing results, could earn a better living or they are simply telling you to go away.
After you done flaming me, and if Adobe allows this post to remain on the forum.  Please respond with your suggestions on what you've found as a good replacement for Dreamweaver CS4.  You can even respond with Dreamweaver CS5, that is if you've beaten it up a lot and find that it is more stable than CS4.
Cheers

Yeah, I'm sure you guys are right.  I fixed it, it only took 4 hours out my workday.  It was a(nother) corrupted file.  It was in one of the Dreamweaver directories, a file that Dreamweaver created and maintains.  I'd tell you which one, but I zapped a whole lot of Dreamweaver private files in several tranches to get at it quickly so I don't know which one it was.
Sorry for not taking the time to describe my environment and all the steps I previously took.  I wasn't looking for an answer, just venting frustration at a vendor who doesn't seem to stand behind their product.
It just sort of ticks me off, that Dreamweaver has a bug that corrupts one of their own files and they don't want to address it.  Oh yeah, they'll step me through trouble shooting after charging me $39 for the privilege.  And before you ask, I'm on a redundant RAID array, UPS with a fresh battery installed 2 weeks ago.  None of the Event Viewer files show any hint of trouble in the OS.  Log files for IIS and SQL Server were all clean also, not that that should have any effect on a code editor.
There are probably thousands of users who haven't had a Dreamweaver corruption problem vs. the few scores who have.  That's too many, but I guess that's just my opinion.
I also guess I'm an impatient b*tch who doesn't believe I should charge my customers to fix my errors and I sort of assumed the folks at Adobe felt the same way.
The ANSWER to the crashing problem is start deleting Dreamweaver config and state files.  Try to guess which ones may store important preferences and vital settings, save them for last and cross your fingers.  Maybe Adobe could see their way clear to publishing a list of what all their config files do so these few scores of unfortunate souls would at least have a roadmap.

  • CS4 CONSTANT crashing

OK I have just bought PS CS4, I have literally just installed it, in TEN minutes it has completely brought down my system no less than three times!! By which what I mean is that on seemingly random tasks I end up with the beach ball spinning and from that I am then unable to even get my dock to pop up on my Mac, the only way to remedy this has been to force shut down my Mac and re-start. This has happened on every occasion of loading CS4 so far!! I would go as far to say that CS4 is just not compatable with the current Mac OS (Snow Leopard excluded as I don't know how that runs with is due to not having it)
I have system 10.5.8 and, as I say, I'm using it with CS4.
Question is does anybody know what's causing this and more importantly, is there a way to fix it?? As it would seem my only other solution is to send the software back to Adobe if not. I'd be grateful for any help or advice. Thanks.

Aren't we talking about 10.6? What has 10.5 have to do with anything? I've
said it a hundred times, Photoshop CS4 worked fine until I installed Snow
    Leopard. Now CS4 crashes consistently.

    Subject: CS4 CONSTANT crashing
First, 10.5.X has been out for over a year, as has CS4,  Many thousands of
people have been running it just fine with your basic hardware config.  I say
this just so you understand that the problem is not fundemental to the
application or OS.  I think this is what westindiangirl was trying to
express.    That doesn't mean you don't have a problem, just that the problem
is likely specific to your installation.
Thank you Anto01 for the additional info.
Two more things are important to know that are missing from your info: Do you
have any PS extensions/plug-ins installed?  and, How much free hard drive
space do you have?  I suppose the third is do you think anything about what
you're doing in PS is relevant? ie. working with huge files, running complex
    filters or actions, etc?
The first (extensions) is because something might of been carried over during
the upgrade that is not compatible with CS4.  The second (free space) is
because you might be running out of scratch disk space.
Since your CS4 installation is fresh it is most likely that something went
wrong with the upgrade/installation.  Therefore, the first thing to try is to
remove and re-install CS4.  When you remove CS4 it can also be helpful to run
    the clean-up script from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html
Before you reinstall I'd recommend running Disk Util to check your disk and
the permissions (problems with either can casue files not to be updated
    properly during the install).

  • Firefox 15.0.1 Constant Crashing Windows 7 64bit

I am running Windows 7 64bit, Firefox 15.0.1 and all my addons are up to date. I have two extensions installed - AVG Do Not Track and Adblock. I have eight pluggins installed and three are normally disabled - Adobe Acrobat10.1.4.38, Google Update 1.3.21.115(Disabled), Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.70.10 10.7.2.10, Java(TM) Platform SE 7 U7 10.7.2.10, Microsoft Office 2010 14.0.4761.1000(Disabled), Microsoft Office 2010 14.0.4730.1010(Disabled), Picasa 3.0.0.0, Shockwave Flash 11.4.402.278. I do not want to roll back the display driver because it fixed a display issue that caused a distortion in my monitor. So what are my options? Is it even the display driver? I have included my crash reports to assist in troubleshooting the issue.

Hope I am not TOO hostile in my reply here but you have to understand I am frazzled after trying to resolve this issue for 4 days now... constant crashing on 15.0.1 and on 14.XX.X.
I thought I might find an answer here, but I am amazed to see people continue to reference articles that require you to have FF '''RUNNING''' in order to perform any troubleshooting or analysis.
Come on guys... READ the posts before you reference an article that is moot because it requires FF to work in order to follow it! if we could get it stable enough to run... the issue would e easier to localize and identify!

  • Constant crash in /System/Library/Extensions/GeForceGLDriver.bundle/Contents/MacOS/GeForceGLDrive r

I have a 2010 unibody Mac Mini.  It came stock with a 320GB HDD and i have upgraded it to 8GB of Apple approved Kingston RAM.
The machine worked just fine under Mac OS 10.6.8, could be up for days and days and be perfectly stable.
Since upgrading to Mac OS X 10.8, i have had constant crashes in Safari, and a bunch of other apps and the only thing really similar between the messages is the following line:
    /System/Library/Extensions/GeForceGLDriver.bundle/Contents/MacOS/GeForceGLDriver
This error has caused many apps to crash, including but not limited to:
    Safari
    App Store
    VLC
    Quicktime
    PhotoBooth
    Activity Monitor
Safari seems to be the main culprit, it crashes constantly, i can use it for a bit, then it will crash, sometimes it will crash again directly after re-launch.  There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason. Apps do not quit in a cascading fashion, apps that have previously quit with the same line in the logs have not occured concurrently with other crashes at the same time.  I have created a guest account to test the system and I'm having the same issue globally, so i've managed to mostly rule out my profile.  I have no extentions installed and no plugins other than Flash and Silverlight. There seems to be no direct correlation between the use of either of these plugins when the crashes occur. Removing these plugins does not alleviate the problem.  System can be heavily loaded, or entirely idle.  I've come home from a 12 hour day to find a couple apps have crashed during the time i was gone.
App store was the only app running when it crashed.  The only other noteable thing to add is that after the crash occurs, the system will spin up all the connected external drives. I have tried disconnecting all external drives and peripherals and have been met with the same issues.
Anyone have any thoughts one what may be causing this and how it may be fixed (Short of reinstalling...)?

Hmmm, it'd make Safari less usefull & AppStore might not work, but try disabling Javascript in Safri & browse best you can.

  • A fix for the crash problem.

Firefox has been extremely annoying on an XP machine with it's constant crash reports requiring uninstall and reinstall several times till it starts working again. However, periodically repairing Firefox was worth the headache for the benefit of Firefox’s performance. Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 8 was installed hoping it contained the fix for the crash report problem; it didn't. BUT, the new crash report post-mortum file list provides another means to identify a probable cause. The file list was discovered after about the third crash and it was noted that Firefox was attempting to load an internet filter dll file from C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM instead of C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 which had the correct version. Evidently, the internet filter program update placed the newer version dll in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 and did nothing with the older version dll in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM or the registry mapping. A copy of the newer version dll was placed in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM and it has been smooth sailing with Firefox ever since. Thanks for adding the post –mortum file list; it provided a means to identify and fix the problem. Firefox is working great and the snail’s pace Internet Explorer 8 has been retired. Thanks again!

  • What is crashing photoshop cs4

anyone know how I can find out what is causing photoshop to crash? is the crash report worth looking at? IS there a resource for interpreting crash reports? Is it worth contacting adobe support?  Photoshop cs2 was my most rock-steady application.  I could go weeks without it crashing. CS4 is crashing several times a day.  My system is reasonably robust, I have tested my memory and hard drive integrity.
Edit: open GL is turned off (and I'm using most recent drivers). I also suffer from degraded performance after an hour or so of use, cured by restarting photoshop.
EDIT: continually crashed at the same point (new group form layers), then on adding a layer.  Opened doc in CS2, it complained of uknown data and stripped away some layers, but I couldn't see any difference in the appearance of the doc (and I had just done delete> invisible so ALL the layers present should have been doing something).

    getho wrote:
seems to happen on specific documents
no I didn't reset prefs, but then the install is only a couple of weeks old (and I think I've had to dump photoshop prefs about 4 times in 8 years of using it; illustrator - thats another story!)
I'd try resetting the prefs any how, just to be sure. It should only take a minute to set your prefs back if it doesn't fix it.
Since it's happening on specific documents, is there anything special about them? Like, do their layers contain certain fonts, or maybe smart objects that have specific files in them? 3D layers? Are these files stored in any special place, or just maybe on your Desktop? (I'm just giving suggestions, since it's likely something specific those documents as you said, and maybe these files are just damaged and you'll have to re-create them, but hopefully you can figure out the cause of the problem.)

  • Flash panels crashing Photoshop CS4

Flash panels crash Photoshop CS4 under the following conditions:
    1. The "Auto-Collapse Iconic Panels" option is activated under Edit > Preferences > Interface.
    2. The flash panel is collapsed to an icon.
    3. You click on the panel icon to display it and run a filter plugin from the flash panel.
The crash happens when you run the filter plugin from the panel or after you click OK on the plugin dialog. Sometimes the crash happens after the plugin was applied and you do something else in Photoshop.
I was able to reproduce the problem with my own ThePluginSite panel and the Blow-Up panel of Alienskin.
If the "Auto-Collapse Iconic Panels" option is deactivated, there is no crash.
Can this problem be fixed in Version 11.02 of Photoshop CS4?

What does this have to do with the SDK?  Does it crash in a plugin that you wrote using the SDK?
Or are you just trying to report a bug in the flash panel code?  If so, use the normal bug report form, and include details so we can work with Alien Skin to resolve the problem.

  • WRT120N trapped in a constant crash cycle

    Hi,
I have some problems with my Linksys WRT120N.
I woke up this morning to find my router have a few problems. It was caught on a constant crashing and trying to restart cycle. After investigation, involving two desktops, two laptops, my VoIP phone, external network cards and so on, I discovered it was crashing whenever a third device was hooked to the lan port. The only way to get the router to run was to disconnect everything, and rehook up the cables one by one. It didn't matter which devices were hooked up, what ports they were connected too, that third device would always crash it.
The same would happen if I altered a mode in the router or changed any settings. It gotten progressively worse through the day and now it can just about handle one lan connection and the internet connection without freaking out and going into the crash cycle. Then about half the time I can get it to come back on to work with only the one device in the lan.
I am currently using the 1.01 firmware, but the router is no where near stable enough to update it to anything newer without turning the device into a paper weight. I also tested the power supply which turned out fine.
I am guessing I have lan ports that are dying pretty badly and I should just replace the router, but is there anything else I can try?
    Thanks
    The limey fellow.

In the end it was no good. I managed to get the firmware updated eventually and soon after the ports failed to respond to anything connected to them, including my ethernet port testers. When I took it apart and performed some basic checks I saw that it had some ruptured caps in it. I may get around to soldering some new caps on the board and test to see if that fixes it, but right now a replacement router worked fine.

I saw somewhere on the forum (but can't find it) a string regarding constant crashing of Logic Pro using Vienna Instruments (Special Edition). I'm experiencing 2-5 minutes of work time and then a crash - quite regularly. I also saw people point to Mac OS 10.4.9, which I also have - has this been identified as the culprit and have any fixes been offered?
    Help!

Actually it's more like 1-2 minutes - sure seems coincidental to having downloaded 10.4.9 - anybody got any suggestions out there? This is killing me.

  • Constant Crashes in Safari 5.0.4 (despite Reset, delete cache & prefs etc)

    Hello,
I am having constant crashes in Safari 5.0.4. This never happened until today.
I have reset Safari, deleted the cache.db files and prefs (p.lists) and disabled extns, and done a Safari re-install, but i still get the following crash every time i use Safari.
Even a right-click command to open a new page causes a crash.
Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated - I'm in the middle of a project and don't have time for an entire OS re-install.
I hope the info listed below give you some insight into the cause of the problem.
    Cheers

    Hi,
Third party unsupported Safari add ons are causing Safari to crash.
    /Library/InputManagers/Ecamm/Ecamm Plugin Loader.bundle/Contents/MacOS/Ecamm Plugin Loader
    /Library/InputManagers/Ecamm/Plugins/iGlasses.plugin/Contents/MacOS/iGlasses
    /Library/ScriptingAdditions/SIMBL.osax/Contents/MacOS/SIMBL
    /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/Keywurl.bundle/Contents/MacOS/Keywurl
Open a Finder window. Select MacintoshHD in the Sidebar on the left. Now open the LIbrary folder then the Input Managers folder.
Move these files to the Trash: Ecamm/Ecamm Plugin Loader.bundle/Contents/MacOS/Ecamm Plugin Loader
    and these: Ecamm/Plugins/iGlasses.plugin/Contents/MacOS/iGlasses
From that same Library folder open the Scripting Additions folder. Move these files to the Trash:
    SIMBL.osax/Contents/MacOS/SIMBL
Same Library folder open the Application Support folder. Move these files to the Trash: SIMBL/Plugins/Keywurl.bundle/Contents/MacOS/Keywurl
    Restart Safari.
Apparently iGlasses can only run if you start Safari in 32 bit mode according to the information here.
    http://www.ecamm.com/mac/iglasses/faq.html
You would have to restart in 64 bit when not using the plug in. Probably not worth the hassle. I hope you only have the trial version installed.
    OS Version: Mac OS X 10.6.5 (10H574)
You also need to update to v10.6.6. You can do this by clicking your Apple menu (top left in your screen) then click Software Update.

  • Constant crashing; I think Mozilla on my new Windows 7 thinks it's still operating in XP, although I'm not sure, being computer challenged.

Ever since I started using Mozilla Firefox on my new Windows 7 computer it has crashed -- sometimes a few times a day, sometimes every ten minutes. I will copy the error message details at the end of this, if I can. I have tried numerous technicians and no one has been able to solve it. (I did reset Firefox more than once.) Just today, right clicking on the Firefox icon and going to compatability, I discovered that "Windows XP" was in the window instead of Windows 7. With the help of a Frontier technician (my internet provider) I changed that from Windows XP to Windows 7. We rebooted the computer, hoisted up Firefox, right-clicked on the icon, and sure enough it said "Windows 7" in the compatability window. However, after a short while Firefox crashed again. Right-clicking on the Firefox icon, I saw that it had reverted to "Windows XP" in the compatability window. Questions: Would Firefox's confusion about whether it was on a Windows XP or a Windows 7 computer cause crashes? Why would Firefox's compatability window revert from Windows 7 back to Windows XP? I have a theory, but I am not an expert: A local technician came in and transferred my Firefox from my WIndows XP computer to my WIndows 7 computer. I don't know whether he installed Firefox from your website or simply transferred the program from my XP computer. However, I asked him to keep my bookmarks. I have an icon on my Windows 7 computer: "Old Firefox Files." I thought that these files (there are four of them, all containing pretty much the same thing) were just my bookmarks, but looking at them today, it looks to me as if they contain the whole Firefox program from my XP computer. My inexpert theory: Firefox is reverting from WIndows 7 to Windows XP because my transferred bookmarks are XP-based. A Frontier technician today suggested I uninstall and re-install Firefox. Sounds like a good idea to me, however I am afraid that my old bookmarks will again confuse Firefox about whether it's in an XP or Windows 7 OS. Bookmarks are essential to the way I use my computer. In fact, many technicians suggested that I use Chrome instead of Firefox, but Chrome does not have an easily accessed bookmark list, like Firefox does in its vertical bookmark window. (Also, I would rather not have anything to do with Google.) Of course, I may be completely wrong about it being my bookmarks and the files transferred from my XP that are screwing up Firefox. Basically: Constant crashes and error messages; compatability window reverts from Windows 7 to Windows XP for some reason; bookmarks and other old Firefox program files have been put on this Windows 7 computer. What do you think I should do to keep Firefox from crashing?
Here (hopefully) is the error message I get when Firefox crashes. It crashes no matter what website I am on at the moment:

This report also contains technical information about the state of the application when it crashed.

Your whole bookmarks story is very confusing to me. Perhaps someone else can explain that better. :)
Can you give me your crash reports?
#Enter ''about:crashes'' in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
#Copy the '''5''' most recent Report IDs that start with '''bp-''' and paste them into your response here.

  • Since upgrading to FF 4, I have constant crashes (updating graphics drivers did not help). now all my bookmarks are gone. When I try to restore them, I get error message: "Unable to process the backup file".

Since I "upgraded" to FF 4, I have constant crashes (I tried updating my graphics drivers--it did not help) and now all of my bookmarks have disappeared. When I try to restore them, I get this error message "Unable to process the backup file". I have lost years of bookmarks...please help.
I am using Windows XP, SP 3 if that matters.

I am also unable to restore any of the backups of the bookmarks, both automatic backups and two backups that I created manually. Since I was able to restore backups before, and since no changes have occurred to these backup files, the problem must be with Firefox.
Right before my bookmarks disappeared, FF crashed and I accidentally started FF 3.5. When I saw what I did, I ended the Firefox process and started FF 4. That's when all my bookmarks were gone and I discovered I couldn't retrieve any backups. I did note that an add-on was updated when I restarted FF. Maybe that's the problem. Does FF have a Safe mode?

Unfortunately if there are various colours across the screen then you have broken the LCD Screen and it will need replacing. If the colours change when you press the area lightly then this is another symptom that you've broken the screen.
Sorry to give the bad news!
