Fixed BOM and Flexible BOM

Hello,
Is there such thing as fixed and flexible BOM? If there is, what is the difference between the two and how could I set them up.

Hi,
There is no such concept in SAP. Its based on the business process and requirement we create BOM's and change it during transactions. Normally BOMs are created with some components. If you require to change this fixed ones, i.e., which is coming from the BOM master, then this can be done by configuring your item categories in VOV4.

You can use FMs: CS_BOM_EXPL_TPL_V1, CS_BOM_EXPL_EQU_V2 & CS_BOM_EXPL_MAT_V2 for extracting the appropriate BOM related data.
And for the Alternatives please check the customizing or check with your respective Module experts for the appropriate configuration.

Production BOM and Engineering BOM

Dear Gurus ,
I want to know difference between Eng BOM and Prod BOM . We have standard multilevel engineering BOM but if I use that BOM for routing assignment I can only see 1 st level components . Can I put all components in single level so that I can assign them in FG routing and pick list will have all the components ?
We are thinking of considering all assy as phantom so that there would be only one prod order for FG .

Hi,
The engineering BOM is as designed material BOM. It may include all the part upto the level of nuts & Bolts & also the engineering drawings. But in Production BOM you may not include the engg drawings & the C class material like nut & bolt, which may be planned on Reorder point planning.

Sales bom and assembly bom

i want to make sales bom which consists of all the materials to make a product(machine).this sales bom is available to sales person and he has to select the varients depends upon customer requirement(varient configuration).
then all materials are to be manufactured and are to be available in stock.
after this step assembly person has to assemble the components according to the assembly procedure for that he has to refer assembly bom which consists of logical grouping of components for his easiness in assembly.
so sales bom has to be with materials only(components which are to be produced to make final product) and assembly bom is with logical grouping of these materials according to assembly procedures and total materials are same in sales bom and assembly bom
is there any method in sap to link sales bom and assembly bom which are different for sales and assembly?this is make to order scenario

The difference between them is
In the assembly bill of materials, the finished product appears in the sales order document.
But in Sales bill of materials, the finished product and the components appear as separate items in the sales order document.
For example the finished product can be a set of office furniture.
you can use the assembly bill of materials to define the composition of the set. The finished product is not stored as an entire set in the warehouse. However, the individual components of the set (for example, chairs, tables, and Almirah) are items in stock. If a customer buys a set of Office furniture, draw the components from stock and deliver them to the customer as a set.

E BOM AND P BOM SAME BUT WHY 2____CRITICAL HELP

Hello Team,
From long back when i browsed through the SDN i was able to summarize the below,
1) E bom and P bom are always seperate.
2) Any changes in E bom will not automatically flow to P bom is required we need to do development using Z code.
3) IF customer requires to maintain E bom and P bom both identical then there is no need to maintain 2 boms one is enough
When i put all these infront of my client, he stated below
In his earlier work at automotive industry, he has seen maintenance of both E and P BOMs both are identical but there is a XYZ reason and asking me to find it out. He says he knows that XYZ reason but he wants me to find it out.
As i am new to SAP implementation i was totally confused, can any one help me on the same.
Critical please help.

I usually first try with all my the knowledge which i have got in earlier experience, then read the docs in sap portal if any doubts.Do trials in ides, sandbox, ask seniors, go through threads, even after all these when i feel i am not sure then i post thread as i feel to deliver the correct thing to customer.
From next time i will be still more cautious, do more home work on the same.
Apologies to the forum if i have followed some wrong path and have disturbed a lot.
Truth is this forum has helped me a lot in resolving many key issues.

Difference between Service BOM and Manufacturing BOM

One fundamental question
What is the difference between Service BOM and Manufacturing BOM. Also what is the difference between Manufacturing BOM and Engineering BOM.
Why should a business create these 3 kinds of BOM's for their operations. cant 1 kind of BOM suffice ?

This is a business definition that your business people should be able to tell you.
Both are BoMs - it's just a question of which parts are defined under each category.
Usually, "Service" BOMs are created by service org personnel as and when required, eg at new item introduction or new option introduction.
"Manufacturing" BoMs are created by Engineering personnel and are the ones used when creating an order for a machine.

EHP5_Engg BOM and Prod bom sync

Hello Team,
We have upgraded our ECC 6.0 with EHP5.
As per the information and work i had done SAP provides the
"Guided Structure Synchronization for transition from engineering to manufacturing (or other type) BOMs".
whats does this mean and how it works. I am not sure whether this is the option which allows bom changes to automatic flow or flow with few clicks from engg bom to prod bom.
Any info please share the same, because i am looking for this option desperately.

1) When we change anything in Engg BOM and Production BOM using ECM process (either in same ECM or 2 different ECMS) with date or serial number effectivity. the changes will automatically reflect on that particular date or serial number?
OR
2) When we do any change only in Engg BOM using ECM process with date or serial number effectivity, the changes will automatically (or by any setting) flow to production BOM on that particular date or serial number.?
Which of the above 2 you mean?

Mass Download documents related to BOM and/or BOM items

Hi All,
Is anyone aware of a mass download functionality of all the documents realted to a BOM - i.e all documents items of a BOM and documents attached to BOM items(part numbers).

Yes, that is exactly it. The requirement is for mass downloading all the original drawings linked to all the components of a BOM to a local drive or to an ftp site.
One possible way , i thought of, could be to use a program DMS_RELOCATE_CONTENT which as I understand relocates all the originals realated to a list of DIRs to another location. Of course, this means that we need compile a list of components related to a BOM using CS12 or similar program and get a list of parts that has drawing attached to it. Subsequently, use this list to compile DMS_RELOCATE_CONTENT. Not sure, if this is a correct way or if there is any other simple way of achieving this.

Bapi For Bom and material Bom in cs71

Hi,
In CS71 we have 2 pushbuttons on the top ie create/copy BOM and create/copy Material BOM. for these 2 funtions i need Bapi or FM for the functionality of those 2 pushbuttons.

Try using BDC method for the same.

Functional location BOM and Equipment BOM

Hi,
I would like to know which tables store information of Functional location BOM (TCODE 1B11) and Equipment BOM (TCODE IB01). Is there a possibility that once we create these BOM's we can create alternative BOM as in case of Material BOM (TCODE CS01).

Engineering BOM and production BOM-very critical help

I am working for a client and below is the requirement, please guide me.
1) Customer has 2 department here one is engg and other is production as usual.
2) He needs BOMs only for 2 purposes a) For R and D b) Production.
3) He needs any changes in engineering and production to be reflected from certain specified date.
4) He says he will raise ECN for every change.
Now my questions are:
1) How to copy any changes done at later stages from engineering bom to production bom at specified date. Can ECN automatically do this?
2) what are methods to copy any fresh E bom to Production bom also?
3) Can ECN once approved automatically update changes in BOM by itself or does customer cumpolsarily need to take ECN and manually change E bom and then P bom.
Please suggest if any better model can help.

Group BOM and Plant BOM

Hi All,
We have a business scenario where there is Group BOM without plant and a Plant BOM with same usage (2).
We hava requirement below
If we make any changes in Group BOM with a change number, Plant BOM is also updated. But if we make any changes to Plant BOM with change number, Group BOM should not be updated.
Any ideas how we can map this requirement?
Both BOM have same usage - engineering -> 2

Any changes in Group BOM with a change number, Plant BOM is also updated when they are referenced to each other (CS07).
In this case both share the same BOM number and changes are always reflected both ways.
In my opinion a solution would be :-
1) Dereference the BOM's (CS09) , this will remove the plant bom from system.
2) Create the plant BOM (as a copy of group bom)
3) And then build enhancements in CS02 to copy online the changes in group BOM to plant BOM.

SO BOM and Material BOM

Hi all,
I am facing a problem in following scenario.
Sales Order has many line items (100-500). For procurement, Material/WBS BOM is huge.Now the case is that after the procurement, delivery happens from project and invoicing is itemwise. By Itemwise I mean that for a SO line item there will be an advance payment and the following partial invoices based on delivery.I can map this case with the help of milestones in project. But the no. of line items is huge and hence will be milestones (advance payment and progress payments)
One more problems here is that when the SO is made it gives high level item. But there are cases when the SO line items itself is broken down into various subcomponents for invoicing purposes.
Can someplease throw some light on this issue.

BOM and template BOM

Is there a setting for template BOM's which allows the BOM item to be displayed in a sales document, be defaults the item sell price to 0, regardless of the price list it is linked too?

Choose BOM type is Sale when create your BOM.
There is an option in Administration >>> System Initialization >>> Document settings >>> General Tab:
For a Sales BOM in Documents, Display:
Price and Total for Parent Item Only: display parent item price as your requirement
Price for Component Items: display component item price

Can we change the technical type of the BOM from V(Variant) to M(Multiple).
As that field is always grayed out in editing mode (CS02).

If a product has more than more than one alternative BOM(more than one BOM for the same BOM
usage) for that products under the BOM header you will be able to see the technical type as M -
Multiple BOM.
You cannot change this.
variant BOM
Production Planning and Control (PP)
A combination of a number of bills of material that lets you describe a product, or several products that have a lot of identical parts.
The variant BOM describes each object completely, for example, the product "lamp." Each variant BOM contains all the components. This type of BOM is not configurable.
Procedure
The system allocates technical types:
according to the number of alternative BOMs
When you create the first alternative for a BOM, the technical type is not yet defined. If you extend the BOM by creating an alternative, the system automatically assigns the technical type multiple BOM.
according to the transaction
If you create a BOM using the Create variant of... function, the system assigns the technical type variant BOM. After this, you can no longer create alternatives for the BOM.
