[Fixed] Can't log in via LXDM 0.4.1-2

Ever since the patch update 0.4.1-3 I haven't been able to log in via LXDM. I skipped a few revisions, but as -7 has been out for a while now, I tried updating again today. Same result. .pac* files have been merged and LXDM itself starts up fine.
Any help here? (Also, which log files should I investigate/do you need to see?)

I am currently experiencing the same issue described here. I try to login and it goes to a blank screen and then immediately goes back out to the login window. It does not matter what desktop I choose.
My lxde.log file does not seem to have anything. Here is the tail end of it:
** Message: start greeter on :0
** Message: greeter 0 session 0x80fb438
** Message: user 0 session 0x80fb438 cmd USER_LIST
** (process:1151): CRITICAL **: QUIT BY SIGNAL
** Message: quit code 0
** Message: exit cb
Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file.
** Message: free session

I couldn't find anything in the Xorg file. I don't know if this is relevant but slim is doing the same thing.

  • Chromium passwords missing ONLY when logging in via lxdm

Crazy I know but it's true.  If I log in via lxdm and from with in chromium: preferences>personal stuff>manage saved passwords both "saved passwords" and "never saved" are blank.  If I switch /etc/inittab to use lightdm, telinit 3 && telinit 5 and log in, all passwords are there and populated.  WTF?

I have the same problem with chrome. Has anyone found a solution for this? Adding
    auth optional pam_gnome_keyring.so
    session optional pam_gnome_keyring.so auto_start
to /etc/pam.d/lxdm didn't helped for me.

  • Can't log in with LXDM

    Another Arch newbie here!
Basically I have issues with logging in with my LXDM display manager. I installed Arch toward the end of October and I'm still trying to shape it to my liking.
What's supposed to happen : I can start my LXDE or Openbox session after selecting my username and typing my password.
What actually happens : everytime I type my password and press Enter, the screen goes blue for a second and reverts back to the login screen. The same happens if I try to log in as root.
Before running into this issue I was trying to configure keyboard shortcuts so that I can adjust the volume with fn/XF86 keys. I also performed an update at some point too.
    The last files I created or modified were /etc/X11/Xsession ; openbox/rc.xml ; etc/rc.conf and ~/.bashrc
I can log in with both user and root account if I press ctrl + alt + F2 and the startx command works. I'm not using xinitrc.
I tried to get some informations on the arch wiki and other website but didn't find a solution so far. I also wouln't like to make it worse by performing wrong manipulation which is why I'm posting about my issue here.
    Thanks in advance!

Well, only /home/user/.bashrc had something written on it. The others are empty. Just deleted them and nothing changed, it seems.
    # ~/.bashrc
    # If not running interactively, don't do anything
    [[ $- != *i* ]] && return
    alias ls='ls --color=auto'
    PS1='[\u@\h \W]\$ '
Maybe I should try to update Arch? or perhaps replace LXDM with something else and more stable?

    Hi Ngoldwat,
I have checked the bug description and it apply to my situation.
Our PI system version 1.4 with path PI_1.4_0_45_Update_1-39 which is used to manage WLC 7.6 has running so long and don't try to reboot to test the bug.
In addition, I have updated one path PI_1.4_0_45_Update_2-45 to manage AP2700 on 17th Oct . So the output displayed "Change: 2014-10-17 17:26:40.000000000 +0800"
I have uploaded the file you asked us and the path level as given below, thx in advance!
If we want to start ncs application automatically, do we have to uninstall the path PI_1.4_0_45_Update_1-39? Thank you very much!

  • Can't log in as root via ssh, secure.log says it has expired

    Hi,
I've followed the guides to enable the root account via Directory Utility but I can't log in via ssh. In secure.log I get:
Apr 26 09:09:56 snowy sshd[1797]: in pamsmauthenticate(): Failed to determine Kerberos principal name.
Apr 26 09:10:00 snowy sshd[1794]: error: PAM: user account has expired for root from <xxxx hostname removed for privacy> via 10.0.0.1
I've tried enabling/disabling the root account, changing its password.. I've made sure the root account is enabled in sshd_config and that it has a valid shell in /etc/shells.
If anyone can tell me how to fix this I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks,
    Mark

Nevermind I figured it out, needed to enable ssh for 'Administrators' group in Sharing -> Remote access

  • Can't log in to Netflix HP installed on my TouchSmart but I can via the Internet

I can log in to Netflix just fine via Chrome or Explorer.  Netflix also works fine streaming on an XBox and a Roku Box.  But...I can't log in via the pre-loaded HP Netflix program.

    Hello tgcisme:
You need to resink the computer's clock. O.K. Left click on the desktop screen clock lower right side. Select adjust date and time. Click on Iternet time tab. New window appears check mark Synchronize with an Internet server. Sever box click on the upside down triangle select any of the goverments time sink listed. Click on update now. Close out clock windows. Now check and see if you can use Netflex from HP. Repeat these steps if you are still un able to log Netflex from your computer but change the time sever. You should be able to use it again ounce your computer is in time sink. I discovered this when Windows time went down durring a bad storm. Like you I was not able to use it until I figured it out by trial and error and spending two days HP Direct Support witch they weren't able to figure it out. I have asked them repeated to post the solution to Netflex. Unable to log on with Netflex.
You should be all set now.

  • Can't log in to iMessages/FaceTime on Mac

I am having trouble logging in to iMessages and FaceTime on my Mac.
I read everything here and have tried a bunch of suggestions (if not all of them) in an attempt to rectify the problem. No luck. MBP 17 (late 2010), Mavericks 10.9.4
    Here's what I've done and/or tried:
    - Rebooting (duh)
    - Resetting keychain (many times)
    - Repairing permissions
    - Trashed related preference files
    - Booting in safe mode and attempted to log in
    - Created another account on my Mac and attempted to log in to iMessage/Face Time
    - Reset time zone and date/time settings to "auto."
    - Disabling iCloud on my computer and re-logging in
    - The mDNS/Bonjour fix via Terminal
    - Disabling Flash from storing data locally
    - Tried booting into Open Firmware to reset VRAM, but couldn't (may try again)
    - Checked my Apple ID to ensure there are no other phone numbers/emails associated
    - Enabled my email address as well as my phone # in FT and iM on my iPhone and iPad
    - Disabled two-step verification on my Apple ID (just in case that was it--I've seen stranger things happen.)
    Here's what DOES work:
    - Logged into Game Center on my Mac
    - Logging into iTunes
    - Logging into iMessages on a different Mac
    - iCloud, iMessages, FaceTime on my iPad and iPhone
    - Checked for my Mac's serial no. (it's there)
Just updated to Mavericks 10.9.4 on 7/7/14, updated MS Office and Adobe Reader, then repaired permissions. After that, my keychain locked up, and I spent six hours figuring that all out. Once that was sorted out, the next day, I noticed I couldn't log in to iMessages. I don't know if it's a certificate problem or a server problem or what.
The error I get most commonly in Console is "unrecognized leaf certificate."
    Appreciate any help.

I solved it! I solved it!
Reinstalling did not work, neither did creating a new user account. Skip down to the TL;DR section for what I did.
I created a new user and installed OS X Mavericks again. I didn't re-format the HDD, because I did not want to re-install all of my applications and wait for all that (hours and hours). This did not work at all and in fact, even more stuff "broke." After the reinstall, I could not (and still can't) log in to Apple Support or my Apple ID via Safari (have to use Firefox). Safari is telling me it can't establish a secure connection to the idsma.apple.com or to the appleid.apple.com servers. iMessages and FaceTime were still preventing me from logging in, and everything went to Hades in a handbasket. Oh--I couldn't log in to the App Store, either. I also repaired permissions while booted from the OS install disk--that didn't help either.
However, I DID FINALLY manage to get iMESSAGES TO WORK on my Mac! (This is in my original user account, not the new one I created, just FYI.) I again changed the time zone preferences from automatic to manual (with my correct time zone) and I made a change to the time preferences so that the date is displayed in the menu bar. I did that just to ensure the .plist file was updated by the OS. (I'd done this before, but since this was a new OS, I figured it might help). Then, after reading another user's tip in another thread, I logged completely out of iMessages (and iCloud, just for kicks) on my iPhone and iPad. I also went to Sys Prefs > Users and re-added my Apple ID to my computer's user id/login.
I don't know how much this matters, but when I did that, the "caution" icon (yellow triangle with exclamation point) appeared next to the Apple ID info in the Sys Prefs. I double-clicked it to see if it would tell me anything, and it disappeared. I re-launched iMessages, and I kid you not, it logged me in! WOOT! Then I logged in to iTunes, iCloud, and the App Store. I also re-logged in on my 2 iOS devices, and it's all good. <happy dance>
Now, if I could only figure out the screwy problem with Safari and the idsma.apple.com and appleid.apple.com servers. Meh. I can log in w/ Firefox, and at least I can actually do some damned WORK on my computer now (it's only been 4 days iof this BS)!
    TL;DR, try this:
    1. Make the time zone on the Mac not automatic (but correct to your time and zone), and change something in that pref. pane so that it overwrites the old prefs file.
    2. Log out of iMessages, iCloud, etc., on your iOS devices
    3. Un-associate your Apple ID with your computer user login (in System Preferences > Users and Groups).
    4. Sign out of iCloud on your Mac.
    5. Reboot.
    6. Re-associate your Apple ID with your user login. If you see a caution icon next to it, double-click. Should disappear.
    7. Launch iMessages and attempt to log in.
    8. Then log in to iCloud via System Preferences > iCloud
If that doesn't work, do these steps, then go back to # 1, above.
    9. Delete all the Apple tokens and keys in the Keychain (might break some other things--may be why I can't log in via Safari right now).
    10. Reinstall Mavericks/OS X.
    11. Repeat steps 1–8.
Final thoughts: My serial number did appear in System Information, and I'd never had the motherboard replaced (or anything else, for that matter) on this Mac. However, this is an Apple Certified refurbished Mac, and it could be that the motherboard was replaced before I ever even owned it. Again, my S/N displayed as it was supposed to, but it could that this was part of the problem. Seems far-fetched, but...

  • Can I log out from my Mac using Terminal.app?

Is there a command I can issue in Terminal.app to log myself out? I'm just looking for a command-line equivalent of Apple >> Log Out. I would like to script this action so I can add it to my dock. Thanks.

    Hi--
I wasn't able to find a way to completely log out via the Terminal (i.e., quit all apps and go back to the login window), though I did find a way to suspend the current login session (your apps are still running when you come back, much like with fast user switching):
    <pre class="command">/System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/User.menu/Contents/Resources/CGSession -suspend</pre>
You can also log out via AppleScript:
<pre class="command">tell application "System Events" to log out</pre>
Just save it as an application and put it on your Dock. I didn't do much testing, though, so I don't know if it'll quit your apps for you cleanly. Basically, I just got to the point where the dialog came up and left it at that.

  • My ipod tells me my apple id password is wrong even though I just changed the password. I can log on via my desktop, but the ipod continues to tell me that the password is incorrect, so I can't update any apps. Help!

my ipod tells me my apple id password is wrong even though I just changed the password. I can log on via my desktop, but the ipod continues to tell me that the password is incorrect, so I can't update any apps. when I continue to to try to enter the correct password in it finally freezes the account, and I have to go online via my desktop to fix that problem. I have two apple id's because when my ipod crashed I had to reset it completely. I have never had any problems with this before, and it has been a year since I got my second id, which is linked to the ipod. My first id is used for the cloud on the same device. My wife suggested I reset documentson the cloud for the second id, however, when I try to log on the cloud with my current id, it tells me I have to set up the cloud on that device, but it is already done, but with the old id.
confusing I know. I have been on the 'change your password merry-go-round' all day, and I'm getting dizzy! Help!

    Hi kmkrodel,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you are having issues accessing iCloud on your Mac or iPad after a change in your Apple ID password, you may find the following article helpful:
    iCloud: Account troubleshooting
On the other hand, if you are talking about sharing files from your Mac to specific apps on your iPad via iTunes, then this article may be of more use (Note: When using this function, you will only see apps that support file sharing, not all apps on the device):
    iOS: About File Sharing
