Fixed: crashes on iWeb &iDVD fixed!!

By uninstalling "Flip4Mac" all of the freeze problems that I had with iWeb, iDVD, and GarageBand have been eliminated! The iLife 06 Suite works flawlessly now!.
Flip4Mac is the windows media plugin for Quicktime, and the uninstaller is located in the Flip4Mac folder in the apps folder.

Rather than cross post I'd thought I'd include this pointer regarding crashing iApps such as Garageband and components 3ivx, Divx, Flip4Mac in Quicktime so we can keep it all "under one roof" as a Quicktime thread. All the above are Quicktime Components.

  • Changing TV Standard - CRASH! Opening iDVD'04 project

I raised this before, was hoping that the 7.0.2 update was going to fix but no.
Is anyone out there from Apple? Helloooo! You have a defective product that I paid
for and can't use. do you care?
This is the displayed message when opening a project that was made with iDVD '04
    "Changing TV Standard
Changing the TV standard will require iDVD to encode all previously encoded assets again."
Which is total BS anyway as the standard has not changed, it was 4:3 PAL in the project and it is 4:3 PAL in the preferences
    Rapidly losing faith with Apple.

As a test I took an old iDVD 4 project on my 933 mhz G4 running Panther and saved it as an iDVD ARCHIVE with include Themes and Encoded Assets checked.
I then opened it on my 1.33 Ghz G4 Powerbook running Tiger and iDVD '08.
It 'sort of worked'. Things opened fine but I had a broken asset warning on video in the menu button. I was able to drag and drop the movie on the menu in the Map view to get rid of the broken asset warning, but the movie in the menu button doesn't play. The projects preview fine, but without the movie playing in the button.
Conclusion: an iDVD 4 PROJECT ARCHIVE with Themes and Encoded Assets included DOES open in iDVD '08, but may require some fixing.

  • Computer crashed - lost iweb files - how to update webpages now?

    greetings,
my hard drive crashed this week. my iweb files are not recoverable. i have reinstalled my OS and ilife on my NEW hard drive. is it at all possible to access my webpages through iweb and continue to edit them? i absolutely cannot figure out how to do this.
    thanks.

I take it you're publishing to a commercial hosting service. There should be a way for you to download your published files to your computer in order to use some of the files, photos, graphics, audio, etc. that you used initially to create the site in the iWeb reconstruction.
If you publish the iWeb site to the same server and with the same site name it will replace the current site and the domain name will point to it. That's essentially doing an edit and republish in iWeb or any other web application.

  • Massive crashing in iWeb

For reasons I can't seem to figure out, my iWeb is prone to massive, unpredictable crashes. When I was first building my website, it happened constantly: the entire computer (not just the program) freezes and then the monitor flashes as if it's having seizures. Sometimes it'll black out. I can't force quit. The only thing I can do is shut the computer down and restart.
This never happens except with iWeb. For the last couple of months I've been making only minor changes to the site, taking only a couple of minutes, and the crashing hasn't happened as much, but today it returned. I'd been working for maybe five minutes when it collapsed.
There doesn't seem to be anything in particular that triggers the crash. Sometimes it gets caught up when I save, but just as often it'll happen in the middle of working. The more I use it, though, the more it tends to crash. With rare use it seems to be fine.
Sometimes it's better when I restart. Sometimes not.
The site itself isn't terribly elaborate. It does have an embedded Quicktime movie, but I don't have it turned on when I'm working.
The iWeb version I have is 3.0.3.
    Any idea what's happening?

There's two things to consider here - is it the domain file or iWeb that's causing the problem? Or maybe both!
Try creating a new domain file and build a small site on it. If this crashes at any point then it would imply that the iWeb app is at fault.
On the other hand, if this goes OK then you nee to troubleshoot your original domain file.

  • All dock icons for iLife '11 (iPhoto, iMovie, iWeb, iDVD, GB) are lo-res

I just installed iLife '11, and the first problem I noticed was that all the hi-res icons that are normally in the Dock are displaying their lo-res counterparts. This does not bode well for the iLife '11 package in general, since 2 seconds after installing the suite I notice a glaring problem. I guess Apple felt the need to rush iLife '11 out the door, ignoring even the basic quality control checks.
    Very disappointing.

I fixed my problem by rebuilding the Launch Services database and restarting Finder. I also had to delete the lo-res icons from the dock and grab new ones from the Applications folder.

  • IWeb & iDVD

I just purchased my new iMac and brought it home. Looking forward to creating a movie with iMovie and iDVD, i discovered that iDVD nor iWeb is installed on the machine! However the website clearly shows that iLife 11 is included on every new iMac, which lists, iPHoto, iMovie, Garageband, iDVD, & iWeb as being contained in iLife 11!!!!   What's going on?

i have the same problem as yours, it is very frustrating especialy with a DEADLINE and the project is already paid.. i just purchased a mac, i am a new user.. i find it amazing and all, but i cannot copy my videos to a dvd because i dont have idvd!! i became so frustrated over it.. and i tried all the forums and apple support, only to find-out there is no telephone support for the Philippines.. what should we do about it?? HOW can you import imedia to idvd if you dont have idvd?!!! I purchased my macbook pro in its full priced yet my software ilife'11 is not complete.. in apple store, if you purchase the ilife'11 os the iweb and idvd is bundled, i already paid for the package pre-installed why don't i have those?! and why dont we have a dvd copy of our softwares?!! i REALLY REALLY REALLY need to import my videos so i could keep my projects because it is already paid.. PLEASE PLEASE HELP! i dont even know where to contact support for my mac... i hope you understand and you could help...

  • Changing TV Standard - CRASH! Opening iDVD'04 project  - REVISITED

I raised this some time ago:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7488339#7488339
Basically opening an iDVD '04 project in iDVD '08 fails. Either hangs or quits.
This still happens with 7.0.3. despite the fact that Apple support acknowledged the error over 6 months ago.
Have emailed the first line people on the case but last time I tried that I never got a response, I suspect they have left.
Anyone know of a general email address I can use, I do have a case number.
I have not tried the Archive option yet as suggested by someone in referenced thread.

As far as I can see, your question was answered in your earlier thread.
iDVD 4 is pretty old, and much has changed in iDVD 7/8.
I would suggest using your copy of iDVD 4 to complete the project.

  • Fixed: iWeb crashes eliminated

By uninstalling "Flip4Mac" all of the freeze problems that I had with iWeb, iDVD, and GarageBand have been eliminated! The iLife 06 Suite works flawlessly now!.
Flip4Mac is the windows media plugin for Quicktime, and the uninstaller is located in the Flip4Mac folder in the apps folder.
    Dual 2.5 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   5 gb ram

My hunch is that the crash happens with people who have AVIs in their Movie folder or are otherwise using AVIs.
Someone might try moving their AVIs and that might fix the problem until the Flip4Mac fix the AVI conflict (if that's the issue).

  • IWeb crashes on startup

    Greetings,
Working on iWeb (version 3.0.2) today when there was a sudden power failure. Now, iWeb crashes on startup and I am not sure how to fix the problem. iWeb gets far enough into the startup to show the "Inspector" pallet before crashing. No other programs seem to have been affected. Have done the following:
Ran Disk Utility several times (kept showing the same errors as "fixed" each time I ran it)
    Restarted iMac (several times)
Tried reloading iWeb from Time Machine... still crashes on startup
Restarted iMac from Snow Leopard disk - ran Disk Utility (twice) - iWeb still refuses to start.
Read in "Apple Discussions" about trashing the plist, restarting, run Disk Utility - tried this but iWeb still crashes when trying to start.
Would appreciate some help or further ideas.
    Thanks

Welcome to the discussions. Try this:
    1. Go to Finder -> HomeFolder -> Library
    2. Move entire folder “Caches” to desktop
    3. Restart iWeb
    4. Delete "Caches" folder on desktop
If no luck with that, try booting in Safe Mode:
_Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?_
...Then boot normally and start iWeb. If still no luck, see the "Domain File Corruption" section here:

  • Console Log shows "Unable to read ICC profile", iWeb and Mail crash

    Hi experts
I've a problem with what appears to be my ICC profiles. Mail and iWeb will consistently crash due to this problem. As the subject above says, all Applications will regularly report the following in console.log:
    cmsDataProviderGetBytes : CMCopyProfile: returned -4204
CMSValidateProfile : Unable to read ICC profile
    To reproduce:
    in Mail:
    1) Open Mail and go to Apple Menu > Preferences > Rules
    2) Create a rule with action "Set Color of background" and in the colour picker drop-down menu choose "Other" -> Crash
    in iWeb:
    1) Open iWeb, choose "Welcome" as a template and click "Choose" -> crash
In an attempt to solve the problem, I have tried:
    1) Using ColorSync Utility to fix profiles
    2) Replacing /Library/ColorSync/Profiles from the OS X DVD
    3) Creating a new profile using Display Calibrator Assistant
    4) Creating a new profile using a third party application, SuperCal
    5) Repairing permissions/my startup disk using Disk Utility (doing this last of course)
Does anyone have some other ideas? I don't know whether this is new to 10.4.4 or not.
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul.

Have had the same problem when I tried an experiment to get iPhoto to stop adding a color profile on my existing photos without a profile.
I removed the .icc files in /System/Library/ColorSync/Profiles and got similar messages in console.log as you do.
Moving the icc. files back made the problem disappear.
What files does your folder mentioned above contain?
Guess you should have the same files as I do.
My folder contains 6 icc. files, including Adobe RGB 1998 and sRGB. Removing these solves my iPhoto fuckup, but as you experience makes other apps crash (like iWeb ..)

  • Pages crashing upon opening, also iWeb & other iLife / iWork apps

    Hi -
I have worked on this all day, and tried to apply what advice there was for those experiencing the same problems I am, to no avail. I've literally been at it for over 8 hours.
I have a 2.16 GHz / 2GB 667 MHz Intel MacBook running Tiger 10.4.11, just installed latest update (again). I cannot get Pages (or any other trial iWork apps) to open, it crashes immediately. iWeb crashes after I choose a layout (first page after opening) I have tried the fixes such as trashing those pesky files in Users/.../..., verified the disk, repaired it. Hard drive verified, no problems found. I have sufficient available memory. I'm at wit's end. I really, REALLY need something to word process with, but do not want to spend $80 achingly hard earned dollars on a program that may not run when the trial doesn't even run for heaven's sake!
Any ideas for what to try next?
    Thanks for any input!

  • IWeb 09 site crashes when browses via Safari

    Hi
I recently found that when I visit my own iWeb made site via Safari, like a good boy, all Apple Safari suddenly quits on nearly every visit.
Any help or advice as to why this is happening, I heard of IE crashing on iWeb made sites, but Safari
should browse seemlessly, one would have thought
    Kind regards

Aaaaah..... Now I remember. I thought you would have learned sense by now and switched to rangerstalk.net !
Your site loads fine, and fast, in Safari for me. I'm using V 5.0.2. This version of Safari has a number of issues and I hope there's a fix on the way. I find myself using Chrome more and more and can't wait until it comes out of beta.
Is it just your own site that crashes Safari or has it happened with others?

  • Crashes in iDVD '09

I've just been working on a project in iDVD ('09) after exporting a movie from iMovie ('09). Went to burn the project, inserted a blank dvd and iDVD crashed.
Restarted my MBP and re-opened the project in iDVD. Went to burn it again, and it crashed again.
Has anybody else experienced this?? Is there a solution?
    -j-

I'm creating 5 DVDs of old home movies as a (belated) Christmas present for my family. As a new user to Mac, I found iMovie to be pretty easy to use and the crashes were minimal (thank goodness that is autosaves).
My experience with iDVD ('09) has been absolutely horrific:
    1. After importing certain iMovie shared media, every action I take in iDVD causes it to spin the swirly wheel for ~6-8 seconds before I can take another action.
    2. Frequent crashes--enough that I started saving after nearly every change I made.
    3. Crashing when saving specific files.
    4. Crashing when closing a specific files.
    5. Crashing when closing iDVD with a specific file already open.
    6. Crashing when opening iDVD (likely due to opening the last project, which was corrupt). Fix: renaming my project folder before opening iDVD so it wouldn't be able to auto-load the last project.
    7. After burning a DVD and playing in a DVD player, pressing "Menu" causes my DVD player to freeze (cannot Stop or even Eject), requiring power cycle to eject the DVD.
    8. Losing text placement formatting on menu objects after reopening project.
Another observation that may be related:
I've noticed that a duplicate (set?) of menus is being created that are not shown in the DVD map view. For example, I typically add a "Title Menu" button to each chapter page to make it easier for the user to jump to the root menu (Project -> Add Title Menu Buttony). When testing the project in iDVD before burning, I've found that sometimes when double-clicking this button on certain pages, it redirects me to a Main Menu page that does not reflect changes I had previously made to the Main Menu. The correct Main Menu page still exists, and other links will take me there. The links on the incorrect Main Menu page also work--it simply appears like an earlier version of the page. The behavior is reflected on my DVD player as well. The first sign I've found is that when burning the DVD or file from iDVD, it indicates that it is rendering more menus than I have in the project (in this case 36 instead of 9). The bottom line is that iDVD is keeping a record of another version of the menu sets and including links from my project to this other version (though I cannot access it from the DVD map). To me, this seems like a symptom of some serious underlying programming problems (invalid pointer/reference handling).
Of the 5 DVD projects, 2 successfully work on my DVD player. The other 3? I think I'll try recreating one of them from scratch and see if that solves the problem. If not, I'll be looking for another tool.

  • When I open Media iWeb crashes

I have had a lot of crashes with iWeb lately. I fially got it to publish without crashing after lots of headaches and finally reverting to old keychains and trashing preferences. But now, whenever I open Media, it opens on a page of Movies, and then crashes. Why? Why? Why? Help!

  • IWeb keeps crashing when using Media Browser

Does anyone else experience constant crashes in iWeb while trying to work with images in the Media Browser (from iPhoto)? This application totally crashed EVERY time I worked with trying to drag and drop, review images in the Media Browser, and even tried closing the Media Browser window (probably 15 or 20 times last night).
Any insights as to what may be the culprit? Is it a bug in iWeb, or perhaps the photo file sizes in iPhoto are too large and crashes the application?
I have a dual G5 tower with 2 GB of RAM, so should be able to handle it.
I love the application, BTW. Never could figure out Dreamweaver (what a nightmare), but iWeb is exactly what I needed for a small business and also to create resources for my grad students.
    Way to go Apple.

Sorry, forgot to mention there's an issue with AVI files too. Both Quicktime and Flip4Mac handle some kinds of AVIs and I think they "fight" for control in certain cases and that also causes a crash. Yes, you'll have to pull out F4M when using AVI but it does come in handy if you're using WMV.
    They'll get it right yet.
That isn't the case, for me anyway. With Flip4Mac as
the only non-Apple plugins, iWeb would crash
immediately upon loading the thumbnail for any AVI
movie in my movie folder. Removing Flip4Mac stopped
    the crashing.
When I put the Flip4Mac plugins back into the
Quicktime folder, the thumbnails will load, but
playing the AVI file will result in a crash. Again,
removing the Flip4Mac plugins stops the crashing.
