Fixed "itunes has encountered an error and must close"

had this exact error and tried may things. I finnaly have it working. Here is what worked for me.
1, Download a previous version of Quick Time and install it.
2, Remove it with the add, remove programs feature in Control Pannel.Make sure that it is completley removed. (I found that I could not get rid of it without installing the older version.)
3, remove Itunes.
4, Now turn off the virus software and reinstal itunes and the quicktime that comes with it.
It should now work.
Good Luck

  • ITunes has encountered an error and must close every time I try to open it.

I happen to have an iPod Video 30GB and I was happily using iTunes for a few months after acquiring my iPod when suddenly, out of the blue, when I tried to open iTunes, it came up with an error which basically said that it had encountered an error and had to close. The problem is that the window doesn't even get to open.I have read through countless FAQ's on the website and none of them seem to be getting near the problem.I sent an error report and I then checked if the problem had been solved. It said 'No'.I am wondering if anyone else has this problem and if they know how to fix it.

  • Itunes has encountered a problem and must close..send error report etc.

I upgraded itunes (not even sure why since my old version was working fine) and now I keep getting the error that "itunes has encountered a problem and must close...". I did try the "msconfig" advice but that did not work. I even tried to use the CD that came with my ipod (March 2005) and the only option I get is to "uninstall" which I hesitate to do because I do not want to loose my itunes library. Does anybody have any other suggestions?? I greatly appreciate any help. I have read through some threads, but some of the "help" links that were inserted are no longer working.
    Thanks!

    I'm having the same problem.
I updated to 8.1 and it closes as soon as the shuffle is plugged in.
So I tried disabling auto-sync. No luck
So I tried loading an older version of iTunes - says I have to have 8.1
So I tried uninstalling and removing all itunes related files - and reinstalling. Still closing every time I plug in.

  • "iTunes has encountered a problem and must close" message opening iTunes?

Every time I try to open iTunes or Quicktime from my desktop or anywhere else, this message comes up: "iTunes has encountered a problem and must close. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please click here to send an error report." Because of another problem on my computer, I have had to reinstall all my progams recently, including iTunes, but after installing and reinstalling a number of times yesterday, it cannot open. Other programs, like skype, are all working fine. Can someone help me figure out why my system can't open iTunes?

You can find version 6.0.1 at http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.htm.

  • Exporting error: Lightroom has encountered an error and must close

In LR 1.0 (Trial), every time I attempt to export my images, I get "Lightroom has encountered an error and must close." Details of the error point to first discburning.dll and then ntdll.dll as the culprits. I am only able to export using the "Export Presets."
Prior to using LR 1.0 (trial), I used Beta 3, then 4.0, then 4.1. Prior to the first install of LR 1.0, I was warned by a friend to uninstall any older versions of LR. I did, the install was successful. After encountering this error, I uninstalled LR, followed by deleting the LightRoom Program Files folders, the backups, the databases, the settings, and registry entries. After reinstallation, the problem still exists.
I've seen discussion (without definite resolution) of this issue in the beta forum, thanks to Google.
    Any ideas?

So how do I disable nView. I've accessed the nView Desktop Manager from the Control Panel and discovered that the "nView Desktop Manager" only had the Enable button and that only 2 of the 11 tabs (Profiles was the only other active tab) were grayed out. I can only assume that nView is disabled and has been while I've been having this ptoblem. Just the same, I went so far as to uninstall the drivers altogether, reboot, launch LightRoom again. Upon trying to export, I get the same exact error. Please help. I really loved LR in Beta, expecially 4.1, but this problem really makes it difficult to work with.

  • ITunes as encountered an error and must close

Everytime I try to install/unistall or open iTunes it says it has encountered and error and must close. The error message where you can send a report. Also when I try to unistall Quick time. It will not let me.

    hi TPee!
Also when I try to unistall Quick time. It will not let me.
it sounds like the initial problem is likely due to a broken quicktime. so if we can replace your QT, we should be able to get itunes launching again.
with that strategy in mind, could you let us know what error message you're getting when you try to uninstall QT? include error message numbers if you're getting any.
    love, b

  • Robohelp has encountered an error and must close

I've been working on this project for about a month and I just started receiving this message. Now I can't even save without generating this error. I'm sure there are some files it can't find. I made changes to the file structure when I first began (I took this over from a prior user) and I believe I've done some sort of damage. I change the order of the folders back to their original layout but that apparently did little good.
A clue: I have two topics with the red X next to them that are duplicates (in name) of two current topics. When I try to delete an Xed out (old) version I get the " . . . has encountered an error . . " message. This wasn't always the case, however. When I first noticed them last week and was able to delete. They're back and causing trouble.

Did you make the changes in Windows Explorer (bad) or Project Manager (good)?
Try deleting the project's CPD file using Windows Explorer and then re-opening the project.

  • Windows Explorer has encountered an error and must close

I have a Sattalite A505D-S6968 -64 bit AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-cor - 4 gig memory - Windows Vista Home Premium Svc Pk 1 -  Problem is Windows Explorer encounters a problem and must shut down.  Restarts and works but is very irritating.  Sometimes many times during a session, sometimes not at all for days.  Suggestions have been shell programs that are not from Microsoft.  I only have 5 shell programs that are not with Microsoft -- two from Trend (VBPropSheet, and TMD Shell Extension) One from Toshiba (SDFMMENU  Class) Synaptics Control Panel and AMD SimpleShlExt Class)   My question is about the Toshiba Disc Creator:  Is it possible that the send To menu could have some shells associated with Disc Creator and could be causing Windows Explorer to shut down?
Disc Creator is the only other thing that I notice out of the ordinary that shows up on the right click menu.
Running Trend antivirus and Webroot spy sweeper and they are not comming up with malware.  Can't rule that out tho...
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

  • Error Message - Adobe has encountered an error and must close.

I keep getting this message anytime I try to print a pdf file. I am running Windows XP and have downloaded Adobe 8.1.2. The strang thing is that on another user on this same computer, the Adobe works perfectly. What do I have to do to get it to work on my user name??????

I have un-installed and re-installed Adobe Reader 8.1.2 a number of times and each time I try to open a document I am told by Microsoft that there is a problem and it needs to shut down. At that point the entire screen freezes and becomes unresponsive. At this point I am unable to read any pdf's I receive or try to print. It even told me to go to my Intnernet Explorer/Manage Add-ons and enable my add-ons, so I did and they were alread enabled?! Version 8.1.1 WAS working just fine!! SO VERY FRUSTRATING!!! Trying to print IRS documents and can't do it! ANYBODY HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS??? Classic case of, FIX IT UNTIL ITS BROKE!! Thanks!! Sandy

Did it work OK before and suddenly quit?
If so, that sounds like malware. Try scanning for malware with ewido (Free at www.ewido.net/en/)
If you just recently installed any other software, security update, windows update, IM update, yadda yadda, now would be a good time to mention it.

  • "iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close" - can't open iTunes

    Hi guys,
I'm a huge Apple fan so I obviously decided to upgrade to Apple 7.0.1 the day it came out... installed it. Opened it up, but within just a few seconds i got a Windows message saying
"iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close"
I reinstalled it and still have the same problem.
First few days I could atleast keep iTunes open for a few minutes before the message, but now its down to just a few seconds.
I run Windows XP if that helps any.
Please help me fix this problem or tell me how I can put iTunes 6 back on my computer --- I need my music!
    Thanks

After downloading and installing 7.0.1 my iTunes would not open either. Even worse is you can't go back to v6 if you had v7 running--the database is updated.
Luckily I was able to get my iTunes to open again by doing the following:
    Click Start/Run
    Type in "%userprofile%\application data\apple computer"
Right click on the iTunes folder and rename it to iTunes.bak.
    Close the window.
    Click Start/Run again.
    Type in "%userprofile%\local settings\application data\apple computer"
Right click on the iTunes folder and rename it to iTunes.bak.
    Close the window.
Try opening your iTunes again. It may re-ask some general setup questions, but mine opened without the error, and it still had all my music. However, I did have to re-authorize my computer.
I used to never be leary about updating iTunes... guess Apple's software ain't no peach, either.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • I updated iTunes to 10.4 version and now it doesn't start and sen a messages "iTunes has detected an error and must be closed". Someone have the same problem and how can we repair our installation insted of change the windows XP installation? Best regard

I updated iTunes to 10.4 version and now it doesn't start and send a messages "iTunes has detected an error and must be closed". Someone have the same problem and how can we repair our installation insted of change the windows XP installation? Best regards

Only way to get iMac starting again was to re-install 10.4.4 from DVD, and then update it into 10.4.6. For a while it worked perfectly, just as before.
Then I tried to print to CD with my EPSON Stylus Photo 950 from Adobe Photoshop Elements (2.0). It didn't print anything, but printer started flashing all lights. The print job was not performed, so I did remove it from the Printer Utility. After that the iMac started "ticking" again, same noise than before, after 10.4.7 installation. I did re-boot iMac. It never started, it does stuck on gray screen (gray block running clockwise). HW test from DVD didn't find any problems (extended search looping 3 times). But Disk Utility found hard drive to have inaccurate node structure, it could not fix it.
Apple support recommended to use DiskWarrior. However, it does not support (yet) Intel Macs. I haven't got TechTool Pro 4.5.1 anywhere. iMac does start on to FireWire mode (T at boot), but I cannot see the disk from 10.2.8 iMac.
So, obvisously the problem is not 10.4.7. I believe it to be ESPON printer driver compatibility on Mac OSX. This does not suprise me, EPSON printers *****, I shall never purchase one again. However, disk catalog structure should not get messed by one faulty printer driver!
