Fixed "network settings have been changed" message but now can't network
As per suggestions, I deleted the files suggested, the message disappeared, and I reentered my network settings. But, now I can't connect to my laptop from my desktop. I can connect from my laptop to the desktop just fine, but when I try and connect in finder (and I tried connecting through network and through going to the laptop's ip address), it just spins for a while and then stops. Any notions?
The com.apple.nat.plist file didn't regenerate, but I put an old one in. Didn't seem to solve the problem.

Ok, now I've gone and put back the original files in the hd/library/preferences/systemconfiguration folder. I've got the annoying "your network settings have been changed" message in my network window, but I still can't network to my laptop.
Help?
FYI: The desktop is an old 2ghz x2 G5 running 10.4.11 and the laptop is a new MB unibody running 10.5.5

Problem with internet. When i open System preferences, Network, message drops down: 'your network settings have been changed by another application'. I click OK, but it dropps the message again and again, preventing me to do anything about the setting.
A Fix for "Your network preferences have been changed by another application" Error
In the Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ folder delete the following:
com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
NetworkInterfaces.plist
preferences.plist
com.apple.nat.plist
You will have to re-configure all your network settings since deleting.

Use Software Update to update your OS to last version of Tiger. Install all the other updates that goes along w/it. -
Trashed plists to fix the problem 'Your network settings have been changed
What is the easiest way to get back the plists that I trashed when following advice on how to fix :Your network settings have been changed.
Drag them out of the trash and put them back to the place from which you dragged them to the trash. If you emptied the the trash they are basically gone (unless you want to go to the excessive step of file recovery with $100 software and a spare empty drive). By the way, they are automatically created again with default settings when you invoke features that need them so it's not like you have a hole in your computer file collection.

hey all, I have been getting the "cannot get mail" error message on my iphone5 suddenly.
ive been using iphone to check two email accounts for months now, one is gmail and not troubled. the other is mail from thunderbird and i get this error message now saying it is not responding. no settings have been changed or anything, it just suddenly stopped receiving mail on my device as of Tuesday afternoon.
Does anyone have iny ideas about why? i have yet to update to the new OS7 yet, could that be it?'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards? -
IPhone 4 MSG that settings have been changed (but not by me!)?!?
Twice I have awakened to a message on my iphone 4 that my settings have been changed. The first time this coincided with my Yahoo mail acct getting hacked, about 2wks ago. After that, I changed my Yahoo password and enabled Restrictions, but I got this MSG again today. Who or what is making changes, and how can I stop it? Thx!
I'm sorry, but I don't have that. Was waking up both times and msg disappears. "User settings" have been Reset is as close as i can get. No numerical code. Thank you.

I don't know what happened. All of a sudden, my settings have been changed, my homepage, and EVERYTHING. No matter how many times I go in and change them again, the SAME pages open up when I start FireFox and I am constantly being asked if I want Yahoo as my start page and default search engine. I click the box 'do not ask me again' and it comes up EVERY TIME. I change things like I don't want history remembered, and when I reload FireFox again, it's back to the way it was BEFORE. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I don't know why this is happening, or how to fix it. What do I do??
I do not want to download another virus program.. I do not believe it is a virus. I am running the full version of Norton 360 and it is doing a daily scan. I have Windows 7, 64 bit OS.

I tried changing my password thinking I may have been hacked but it comes back saying wrong username and/or password. I have started the 2 way verification but nothing seems to work. Hi Support team, somehow my mozilla settings have been changed and it became transparent, now how to change back to normal because everything is transparent, menus, pages etc.
This could be the same problem other users are reporting as a white screen or black screen, caused by an incompatibility between Firefox 33 and some older graphics card/chipset drivers.

I am being charged for international msgs which i haven't sent to a number of the UK.i tried to activate my iMessage and FaceTime using wifi but then it didn't connect. all settings have been turned off in my phone! i also have reset my phone with all the settings. but when i contacted my carrier, he said that the balance deduction is because of the international messages i have sent, but i have sent NONE! every time i switch on my phone, balance gets deducted. imessage and facetime are all disabled! but then the problem started since yesterday when i tried to activate them but had disabled them all at the next moment! but the charges are still being applicable for some international messages as per my mobile carrier. what to do? is there some problem with my phone or carrier?

My Settings Have Been Restored...How Can I Fix This?
Before I went to bed last night I converted my itunes library to ACCs. When I woke up in the morning I noticed my instant messenger and internet browser settings have been reset. I checked my memory and I had saved a little bit from converting to AACs. I restarted my computer and everything was reset. I have no itunes songs, no documents, virtually no personalized settings, but all my applications are still available. I have the same amount of memory as I did before i retarted (with all my documents and files). I have no idea what happened nor what I can do now.

Yes they are.
What you need to do is to open you hard disk and then the Users folder and you should now see three (or more) directories there. One will be called the short name of your account and another will be the one you renamed. All you need to do is to rename the one that is the same as your short name to something else and then rename the directory you change back to match your account short name. Then, immediately restart and hopefully all will be back to normal.
PS Yes yu can rename you home directory although that's not the way to do it. -
Why after changing my apple Id can I not down load updates to my devices. I've changed all settings to new Id & even tried to do updates through iTunes but keeps referring back to previous Id which had to be cancelled due to email address change. Please help me find a solution to this problem. thanks.
Go to Settings>Store>Apple ID, tap the ID shown, sign out, sign back in with the new ID. However, app updates for your apps purchased with your older ID will always ask for the password for this ID. (Apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them.)
